Description
Windsor Railway Station is of State Significance for its Heritage. Constructed in 1883 it is a fine example of a Victorian second-class station building. When the station was originally constructed it included a station goods yard, but unfortunately due to the removal of the majority of items associated with the goods yard, all that remains today is the goods crane.
The original 1880s goods crane can be seen affixed to an octagonal base made of concrete. The crane is a Class 1, 5 tonne hand crane and bears the number T181. Made of iron, the jib crane has a hook dropping from the end of a
single rotating arm.
In order to log this cache:
- Photograph the goods crane, preferably with your GPS in the photo
- Include in your comments the current condition of the marker

Picking up some caches during our brekkie stop at Windsor.
This was bigger than we were expecting, although it makes sense for it to be a decent size.

This is our local train station so we come past this quite regularly at its pride of place next to the commuters carpark. Love all these old pieces of history dotted around Windsor. The crane is in great condition and has been painted and well looked after. cheers

Well like usual the GPS (old 1) came a little short again. Yep just over there – well I was on the other side of line & could see it clearly but no way over. I went on the other side (drove) & ended in side street that should have given me a good view but a big fence here so these photos will do - thanks

#GA2263 - 10:40; When the States of the Nation game began, a plan was hatched for a group of ACT cachers to take a trip north to the Hawkesbury on a scavenger raid. As time passed the group's numbers dwindled, but with a bit of work solving puzzles and a few things rescheduled, our merry band comprising andrewbt, Sol de lune and I set off on a damp Canberra morning to try our hand. A recent visit to Canberra by cachers from this area provided an added incentive, so we could repay the karma points we gained from their visit. A successful day it turned out to be with 56 finds and only three DNFs. The carpark took a bit of work to find, but we managed to get there and to locate the crane, which did stand out a bit. Headed up to the Wilberforce area with Luckyl10n and AndrewBT to grab a few of the GCA caches in the area. Great to check out some of the historical things in the area and we soon found ourselves checking out this Crane. No problems getting a park today and the required photo was soon grabbed. Had a read of the plaque and were soon on our way again.

I came for this one some time back in the midst of one of the GA games, but forgot to log it...so a quick turn off today to get a new photo. Funny, the last known person I saw before this was the CO and her kids walking down towards Tizzana's. See ya next week at the CITO.

I was commuting by train when this car park was built and then this goods crane re-installed. It was able to be spun around but when it was determined that the boom arm could be used as a ladder to the roof of station buildings it was welded in its current position.
A nice little piece of railway history in the area. tftc
