Description
Do you remember Hoadley's Violet Crumble Bars when you were a kid? They were a bit expensive for me at one shilling and sixpence as I only got 3d a week for pocketmoney. But you could buy a fair bit with that.
I remember once I was given 2/- for my birthday from my Great-uncle Aub. The very first thing I did after school was to go into Norman's and I bought a mamoth cone which cost sixpence and a packet of chocolate cigarettes for threepence, so I had A left. With so much disposable cash, my best friend, Kerrie and I decided I ought to ring my Mother and get permission for me to go and play at her place and we'd have a feast.
So I climbed up onto the shelf of the phone box in the side street, carefully placed the 4 pennies on the slider and dialled JM4311. When my Mother answered, I pushed the pennies down the slide and bashed my open palm on the silver button marked A, then gave the side of the phone a bang or two with my fist for good luck. With a combination of me alternately yelling into the speaker piece and then the earpiece (which always seemed to work better), I got permission and we dashed back into the shop for another selection, now having B left for our feast.
We decided to get 2 slate sticks and 2 musk sticks as they were each 2 for a penny. "How much have I got left?" I asked Mr Norman. "C" he replied. "3 milk bottles for a penny then" I replied, knowing I had D left now, becasue that was an easy sum to do. After a long discussion and slow perusal of all the choices, we decided on 2 sherberts with the licorice straws to suck the sherbert through, which were tuppence each. "How much now?" I asked. "E" he replied in a long-suffering sigh. "Can I have 2 cobbers then please" I asked becasue they were 2 for a penny as well and I would still have F left.
The final selections took the longest and I decided in fairness that I would make one selection and then Kerrie would make one. So I chose a penneth of freckles, leaving G and Kerrie chose a penneth of rainbow balls because they were doubly good value as you got chewing gum in the middle. I decided to keep the leftover becasue I could put that in the bank and save it.
So where is the cache in this story? It's not at the listed co-ordinates but this is the start of a fire trail which will get you heading towards it (and the nearby Caroll Trig http://geocaching.com.au/cache/tp4922) You'll find the cache at South FFEFCDE East ABBCG

Logs
Do you remember Hoadley's Battle of the Sounds? I think I saw Heart & Soul and Somebody's Image (Russell Morris) on the back of a truck in the Hordern when it it had a dirt floor and no stage or seats in nineteen sixty something.
But back in this millenium ...
I was greeted by tronador's dog and its mistress, who confirmed I was on the right track (just the mistress, not the dog).
Arriving at GZ, searched high and low. I couldn't find honeycomb at first, let alone a cache. So I searched further and further afield, finally finding some impressive honeycomb but still no prize. I resorted to rechecking my numbers. Computer said "Correct!" By now I was dripping with sweat and ready to toss in the towel.
One last scan, I thought. Back to first place I'd looked and this time, it had honeycomb and a nice container. I uttered a bad word and smiled. I can only think the eyes weren't ready for the darkness of this impressive hide.
Best find of the day. Thanks blossom*.
I was most relieved my subtraction and multiplication skills are great as the checker congratulated me. I arrived at the suggested parking spot only to be a little confused as there is a house there and a dog sitting out the front guarding the entrance. I'm really scared of dogs particularly ones without an owner nearby. I had no idea if this dog would have a go at me if I attempted to walk up this track, it actually looked like it was going to that house. So instead I drove to another track head and decided on the long option, walking in from the trail below and scaling up the cliff lines. No problem there as a wise man taught me all I know about getting up and down the cliffs. I managed to pop out right on the track and no where near any dog or house. It was then an easy walk to GZ. The clue made total sense and soon I uncovered a nice big ammo box. I loved the out look here. I also found a secret trail that I was able to take all the way back down to the bottom, a trail not on any map I could see. Once back on the main track I walked back to the car. A longer caching adventure but very scenic and no dogs. Thanks for the great cache.
I knew the way up having found "Carol" a while ago. It's a nice walk, not too strenuous. Turned off on the mountain bike trail and was soon at GZ. Finding it took some more time! Co-ords pretty good but it is very cleverly hidden for such a big container. Perfect spot really, safe and dry as the day it was hidden. Recommending it as others should definitely give it a go. Ammo cans are always worth the extra effort!
I've really enjoyed solving blossom*'s puzzle caches and couldn't believe this one still hadn't been found after 5 weeks. The currency in question was slightly before my time so needed to do some research to get everything to add up. I do however remember visiting the corner store for cobbers and most of the other sweets mentioned. You used to be able to get quite a selection in a little white paper bag for a measly 10c. These days, a bag of snakes can set you back $4.
So this was the main target for today. I enjoyed the walk into this new area and happy to make the find of my favourite cache container, with a blank log book inside.
I really enjoyed this one!
Thanks blossom*
