Description

The National Library of Australia

So, after few years since number 9 in this series, here is number 10.   And what a great place this is.

From books books and more book, to CD's, DVD's, newspapers and even items stored on microfische.    In days gone by, I have searched many newpapers using the microfiche system at the library.   It's a great source of information.

Anyway, for this Virtual Tour of Canberra cache, all you need do is stand in front of the library.....maybe at the top of the stairs....and have you photo taken (or take a selfie of course) and upload it with you log.   Simple and easy.   But while you're here, head inside and check it out....you might be surprised at whats on offer...

Enjoy your visit......

Came to the capital with some fellow teachers and a bunch of noisy year 6 students. I had a few ops to get some snaps for some virtuals and a few traditionals. TFTC

23-Aug-23
I was able to grab a 5 minute parking spot only about 50 or so metres from GZ and figured that that should be enough for a selfie to qualify for this one. Sure enough, at 13:45 I was taking said selfie for its first find in almost 3 years Shocked and was on my way. Alas, no time to head inside. Wink

Thanks Sol de Lune.

Last one today and only a quick visit before running off for my bus. But the bookshop in the library is a favourite. Very Happy

In the nation's capital for the weekend with my son. We are out adventuring.

27-Aug-19
Found while escorting a visitor to the area.

28-Apr-19
Found during my adventures at the Clear Waters mega. Thank you for all the caches!

22-Apr-19
I saw a pamphlet advertising a current exhibition at the National Library so my husband and I made a quick stop here, even though the rain was getting heavier.
Unfortunately we didn't have time to explore the rest of the library as we need to get back to Queanbeyan to check on our camping site.

Thank you Sol de lune for this cache and the series. I have visited seven of the locations in the past week.

21-Apr-19
One of my favourite places to come for coffee. Beautiful stained rose glass windows in a very peaceful setting. Too bad the cartoon exhibition was closed today. Quick visit after grand car flag parade during the mega.

Easter Sunday and very little traffic around so we took the opportunity to locate some caches. TFTC

10-Mar-19
After kayaking with the balloons this morning, I then did some "messing about in boats" and after that I came for a wander and decided to have a look at the "Inked" exhibition here in the library. then I tweeted some photos, and then remembered I had not logged the virtual I found on the way here, so I did that, then finally thought to look and see if there were any GA caches around here... yes, this one - lol
TFTC - now sitting here logging it on my phone, on the library wifi Smile

06-Oct-18
A nice walk around the central part of the lake today with the family and Betty. We had planned to make Floriade a central part of this walk but it was too disappointing and we rather did an extended walk with lots of pretty sites and lots of caches.

20-Feb-18
One of seven attempted 'caches' today; four GA and three GC. After taking this photograph I indulged in afternoon tea at the cafe. A lovely outside sitting area. TFTC Sol de lune.

29-Jan-18
At the NLA for a Symposium today so what better to do at a break than claim a cache : ) TFTC

14-Jan-18
Went to the National Art Gallery to see an exhibition and went to Questacon and National Library, great opportunity of getting points for the SON game. tftc SOL DE LUNE

On a gloomy damp afternoon I ducked out of the car for an image of this treasure.

Thanks

Know this building very well, used to do IT support for the National library. Its a grand historic building thats quite large and houses a vast collection of artifacts, not just books. Great weather today for a virtual caching run around the lake.

20-May-17
This was the only place we visited on our bike tour of Canberra today, apart from parliament house, that was relatively busy.
Loved the fountains out the front so included them in our photo. Would have been a bit tricky getting the bikes up the stairs for the suggested photo anyway. Thanks.

20-Mar-17
Did a GCA Virtual ride today, taking in the virtuals around central Canberra and a couple in Manuka.

An eventful ride - I saw a 3 car pile up, and shortly after, huge storm rolled in!

11-Mar-17
I was in the area for enlighten so quickly checked for virtuals in the area. been here lots so I wasn't sure how I had never completed it until I saw it is relatively new. took a photo from across the street so not as close as the pin on the map, however I feel three pretty colours make up for the slight distance discrepancy. TFTC Sol

Busy busy busy wrapping up the scavenger challenge. I hate selfies but it was the most painless option. The metre was running so I couldn't pop inside, you know, secret caching business required nearby

#GA1239 - 20:10; Dropped by for a quick snap on the way home from a visit to a mountain visible from here, hence the sun setting in the background. No chance to check out the books as the place was closed. TFTC Sol de lune Very HappyClan Cerberus

Found on a very early morning GCA run before going to the movies on a hot summer day. It was great to get yet another virtual cache in this series - while we were in the area, we quickly snapped a photo and then we were off again. Awesome building that is really well designed and is built at a beautiful spot next to the lake. TFTC SdL!
