Description

Another truly bizarrely-named cache for the 2016/7 Summer Scavenger Series.

The cache is not at the listed coordinates. You vill not need scuba gear or ein U-Boot.

You vill probably need most of the following:

  • About 3m of rigid TOTT.
  • A synthetic rubber gumboot (Left only).
  • The masthead from a newspaper published on the day of your find.
  • Strings and sealing wax.
  • Other fancy stuff.
  • Some foreign language skills.
  • A digital camera with geotagging disabled.
  • A suitable decryption tool.
  • A reliable accomplace.

Your mission:

Take an original photo of the actual brass tag shown in the photo here, but with the masthead of your newpaper, and post it with your FOUND log. The photo must be a close-up that clearly shows the tag, the date on your paper and enough of the masthead to identify the paper. Make sure your photo does not include lat/lon coordinates. Don't even think about photoshopping a claim. Cheating ist verboten! Offending logs vill be shot!

Now where is that tag? I've made a note of it somewhere but it's in code and unfortunately, I've forgotten one of the letters of a very necessary three-letter word.

This is the most ridiculous thing I have had to do as a cacher. I can't imagine what the people in the park thought of this strange man carrying a 4m ladder through the park and then up the stairs!!!

A fun and interestig experience. Photo supplied to the CO.

Out with teamMerlin and Splitty Miller JJCC. teamMerlin had the appropriate TOTT & the Daily Telegraph we got to GZ. We set up the TOTT where it would be of the most use and we each used it to take the required photo. We got slightly damp on this trek. Thanks for the puzzle Baktrak

On a caching run with phlphotos and JJCC in the area today. Armed with our Daily and a 5m TOTT, phlphotos scouted ahead and located our target. On arrival we extended our TOTT and placed it in the correct position, the we each climbed up and took our photos. We managed to return to the car only slightly damp from the light drizzle. Thanks for a great puzzle Baktrak.

Since I recently discovered a swag of GCA caches much closer to home than my nearest unfound GC cache, I've enjoyed those local excursions - especially those of ze puzzle variety. Having completed my apprenticeship for this puzzle's detection and solving methods some time ago, es war still a fun challenge.

After finding quite a few caches yesterday, I swung past to see exactly which of ze optional items I would really need. Just as I suspected. Don't think I could have managed the asbestiform method.

Returned zis morning vis all of ze required equipments und took ze foto.

Es war eine Menge Spaß.

Vielen Dank Baktrak

An afternoon collecting 5 GCA puzzles. This one the second in line.
Being familiar with the subject helped and the numbers spewed forth at the second attempt.

Cloudy and misty rainy morning but cleared after lunch. The weather heating up but still ok to take the road bike out for a few caches. Continued down the road from the first to the a spot I'm fairly familiar with. Question was to go the low route and head up or just head down. The road bike not that suited to the direct option so picked it up and hiked down the trail. Nearing GZ there was a pretty direct route in. Carried the bike in and quickly spotted the U beaut marker. Hmmm. Seems it may be a little more tricky than anticipated. Cleated bike shoes not the best option so off they came for a more natural feel. Positioned my Tott in a spot which would give me a leg up. Grabbed the camera and the morning news and up we went. Once on the saddle, sat down and reached around. Hmmm, narrow toe hold there, then arm up and around, hug the tree tight and then stand up. Lucky for a good hand hold at the right level and reach around to position the front page and take the shot with one hand. Did this a few times as it was a little hard to get the date in properly. After a few attempts produced a reasonable snap shot and maneuvered down to ground level. Just had to carry the bike back out and head to the next lot. Pleased to have ticked this one off the list. Thanks Baktrak for an awesome hide. Gesundheit!
