Description
During a short trip over from Perth to my home town of Gawler for a funeral i decided to find some caches and whilst in this area came across some of the remnant destructiopn caused by this monster fire. Having been a volunteer firefighter for 20 years in Gawler, with my baptism being Ash Wednesday Bushfires in 1986, i was suprised to see scars of this fire whilst travelling on the Gawler to Kersbrook Road.
These scars are located up in the hills not far from where the fire started and there are also great views from this spot. I thought that i would place a cache here for people to see first hand what a ferocious fire can do to metal objects located here. Have a look at the track sign neqar the gate.
The 2015 Sampson Flat bushfire began on 2 January 2015 during a day of extreme heat and lasted until 9 January 2015.
The fire began in an area called Sampson Flat. The fire travelled southeast towards Kersbrook township and soon spread out across the Mount Lofty Ranges towards many towns, settlements and even towrds the north eastern suburbs of Adelaide. 38 houses, 125 outbuildings and 134 injuries were recorded by the evening of 6 January. The town of Kersbrook was worst hit, with twelve houses destroyed. On 7 January, the number of houses destroyed throughout the affected area was revised down from 38 to 32 and again down to 27 a few days later. There were no fatalities as a result of the bushfires; and the total cost was estimated to be more than A$13 million.
You are looking for a magnetic cache and you will need a geowriting tool to sign the log.
Enjoy the views from this spot and take the time to reflect on what many volunteer and permanent fire fighters and many other people have to endure whilst tackling monster fires like this was.

Many thanks dezzabills for placing this cache.
I remember that week. Seems so long ago now with all the other fires we've had since. The trees here are re-growing well anyway...

Cheers & TFTC
We came up through this way about a month after the 2015 fires, and I must say the area has grown back quite well during the last two years.
Thanks dezzabills.
