Description

Faced with the problem of having to process refractory sulpho-tellride ore in the early 1900s Kalgoorlie mining engineers and metallurgists developed new processes which revolutionised gold extraction metallurgy. By 1905 Kalgoorlie-Boulder was recognised as a world leader in gold extraction metallurgy and was only second to the South African Rand as a leading gold producing centre in the world.

Mining in Kalgoorlie-Boulder was impiortant to the development of Western Australia and the Government was supportive. Much funding for public infrastructure was provided.

By 1901 a third of the Western Australian population of 65,000 lived and worked on the Eastern Goldfields.

Logs

This one has been inactive for a while. While the CO finds out what is going on with the plaques, we archive the cache so cachers don't go looking for something that isn't there. Once the cache is good to go again, the listing can simply be reinstated.

We are travelling from Portland Victoria across to WA to see our daughter.

We are stranded in Kal for a few day as we are the victims of what we have now learned was unleaded petrol being added to the diesel tanks at Eucla. Many vehicles broke down across the Nullabor and we were one of the early ones.

This is our sixth day in Kal and we headed off to Coolgardie in the hire car. An interesting selection of locations and the caches were all in pretty good condition.
Thanks for showing us this part of the world

We have travelled from A (our home in SW of WA) to B via the Savannah Way from Broome to Cairns with a two week unexpected detainment in Mackay which has set us back two weeks, now sadly travelling back to A via the Outback Way from Winton to Laverton

Had to stop here for something else and did this cache at the same time

Even the ladies looking after the information office had no idea what I was asking them about.
They showed me a info board outside mentioning some of the data.

This trip through the Goldfields has been a while in the planning and the main mission was to collect caches in at least another 8 Local Government Areas to qualify for a challenge cache recently set up by megawatt60! I didn’t really have a plan and was happy to throw the swag down once the daylight became in short supply. From Kalgoorlie I headed north as far as Leinster with a few deviations along the way. I then headed west through Mt Magnet and then meandered my way back towards Perth. I had GC and GCA caches lined up and tried to grab as many as I could while passing by. Cheers to all the CO’s for the hides and hopefully I can head back one day soon to clean up the caches I wasn’t able to find on this trip. TFTC

Interesting, lots of history panels and historic buildings here. However, it was not clear to me specifically what I was to take a photograph of; and with the building currently undergoing renovation it's possible it could be temporarily unavailable?
Anyways, glad I stopped here to stretch legs, on way to Kalgoorlie for brief visit. Returned home next day, finding 19 caches; including two FTF Trig Points, and 15 dz's to earn "Ides of March" trophy.
