Description

Visit the Pinnacle Nature Reserve for some lovely walks, views, and quite a number of caches !

The Pinnacle Nature Reserve is a unit of the Canberra Nature Park (CNP). Totalling approximately 138 ha, the Reserve is located on Belconnen's southern boundary, adjacent to the suburbs of Weetangera and Hawker. The Reserve adjoins Springvale Drive and private residences to the north, and unleased and leasehold rural land on its southern and western boundaries. The Reserve is promulgated under the ACT's Territory Plan, and managed by ACT Parks and Conservation Service (PCS).

The "Pinnacle" refers to the highest point of the Reserve, which is 708 m above sea level.

This is a small series showing off some of the Gateways into the Reserve and the start of your caching adventures in this area.

BYO Pen.

Happy Hunting.

While Mr Y'stassie was busy elsewhere Mrs Y'stassie decided to go for an early morning walk in the Pinnacle Nature Reserve and see if she could find some of the GCA caches hidden along one particular track. This was first on her list.

It was muggle central this morning with walkers coming from all directions. It took 15 minutes for the foot traffic to clear so she could start her search. The container was located with a good covering of local material as well as some guardian slugs. There was a reasonabley large amount of water in the cache container and the log was wet and just usable. Unfortunately Mrs Y'stassie had forgotten that some of these older caches have not been found for over 2years and had not brought replacement logs or drying materials with her. This cache will need drying out.

Thanks for this cache Fitzy_1965. It looked like I would be spending more time waiting than caching this morning.

I was on my way to my Monday night sewing evening, and I was a bit early and parked nearby, and ducked in here to take a photo of the nice clouds to the South. figured I had better find the cache while I was here (there are a few here that I had been meaning to come and find one day, but maybe one at a time is better - means I come for more walks here - lol
TFTC - spotted the likely spot as I approached, wandered around tge correct side of the fence, and looked where I expected it to be... and could Se the top of a plastic bag poking out from under a suspicious pile of bark. it was a bag of dog turds (why are some people so lazy/filthy? and why even bother to pick it up in a bag in tge first place if you are just going to drop it somewhere?!?)
The cache wasn't there... I spotted the actual likely spot when I put the bag of doggy do do down on the stump to take a photo (yes, I take photos of weird things Smile

Today was even hotter than the last couple of days so I ventured out earlier. It didn't really help so after finding 3 nearby on Mt Painter, I decided to head home.
Nah only 3? I couldn't drive past this one again so stopped and made the easy find. However I had to draw the line there as Pa had come into town for a couple of days, so that was it. Plenty of time to get the rest another day. TFTC Fitzy SL

938. Thought I was in trouble on two counts here. A dog walked who was lingering was the first issue. Didn't take too long and he moved off. The second was the devastation at GZ, bottles et. strewn right where the cache was hidden. Well, oops not right at where the cache was hidden more like where I assumed it was.

All good and the find made as cache was nice and secure.

TFTC FITZY_1965 and RIP Batman.

A pleasant sunny afternoon, decided to try some nearby GCA caches. An easy find, thanks.

A nice easy one for a cold foggy morning. Be warned there is hooting going on at the moment in this reserve at night. In daytime, the views are great and this is a good time to explore this reserve. TFTC Very Happy

#GA1701 - 14:30; I didn't have time to return and finish off the CO's series I started a couple of days ago, so stopped off and grabbed this cache on my way home from a lunch with some old work colleagues. Made my way to GZ but the GPSr had me a few metres away from the spot where I ultimately found the cache and got my name into the log using Goldenwattles suggested coords. The cache is actually at the obvious spot, despite the GPSr not leading me straight there. TFTC fitzy_1965 Very HappyClan Cerberus

Out today for the last in this series. Parked at the gate and took the short walk to GZ. Soon had the cache in hand and the log signed. Great views on a neat Autumn day.

Thanks fitzy.....

I didn't find anything where my Garmin took me, but I looked around and spotted a likely hide about 18 metres away.
My Garmin(and Google maps)preferred S35° 15.555 E149° 03.102. Someone had left a chocolate at GZ. Very sweet, but I didn't take it. TFTC fitzy_1965.

Heading back from a Scout event at Woods Reserve I checked and these were still unfounded, so I stopped and rectified that and fopund a blank log for an *FTF*. TFTC
