Description

Cyprus by the river [Edgewater Walk]

Edgewater was developed on the old Colonial Ammunition Factory site in Maribyrnong in 2001. A pleasant set of ponds has been created which allow boating and wildlife to abound (including snakes, so beware). This series of geocaches will take you on a walk around the ponds checking out the area and finding a few geocaches along the way.
Cyprus by the river will bring you to a lone Cyprus tree along the river. There is a lack of large trees along this area suggesting that the locals would prefer a view of the water rather the green of nature. Surprising considering this is the Maribyrnong River where dead bodies usually float down until they hit the bend and stall under the pontoons. Anyway, we are not here for a dead body we are here for a geocache today. This is the irritating micro in a tree scenario. With a lack of large trees, opportunities for a walk and geocache and limited so I had to resort to the micro just hanging around. Fear not if you start to struggle there is a very good hint which should mean you can get this geocache without too many worries.

Be aware that there is also a geocaching.com mystery cache hanging in the same tree but at head height. Log one, log both, log either, any log in either cache container will stand you in good stead to claim this one.

I traveled back home to SA from Perth for family reasons and decided that Melbourne is only a short hop from Adelaide, so I logged an attendance at the Parkville Mega event and headed over for 5 days in Melbourne. I hired an E bike and had it for 4 days so was able to get around to many places and grab lots of caches as well as biking from the Youth Hostel in North Melbourne to Parkeville which was only a short ride. I attended the event on Saturday and caught up with some west ozzies and we headed out and grabbed all the lab caches and when i had some spare time headed out to grab some GCA caches close by. I would like to find more of your caches but that will be another time. This was a very quick and easy find. Thanks for bringing me here and the cache Caughtatwork. ClappingClan Minotaur

Last find in the series today.

It was intially a tough one.

I signed and moved on.

The lap of the lake continues. I had to spend some time looking like I was interested in the river while I waited for some walking muggles to pass by. A cheeky hide - thanks c@w. Cheers!

We are currently touring Victoria with our geovan in tow, using geocaching as a guide. We have visited many amazing locations through geocaching and your cache - Cypress by the river [Edgewater Walk] - was one we found along the way. Enjoyed this series of caches the redevelopment of this area is beautiful. We were lucky enough to talk to a council worker who opened up Jack’s Magazine and gave us a peek inside and a history lesson of the site. Added bonus to finding the cache.

Many thanks Caughtatwork for publishing this cache for our enjoyment and adding to our geocaching experience. As always accurate co - ordinates led to a quick find. Cache and contents in excellent condition.

Tassie Trekkers are now a locationless geocache we have published a 'Geocacher cache' - Travelling Trekkers GA10932 - so if you spot us in your area sign our log book and receive a code word to earn yourself a Very Happy We were one of the lucky teams to receive a pathtag from Geocaching Australia for publishing a "Geocacher Cache" - thanks Geocaching Australia.

#GA2041 - 13:00; In Melbourne with the geohoney for a few days to visit the geoteen, who had lectures today, so we headed off to Maribyrnong as it had two things going for it, retail therapy and caching! This was the next stop in this series on a very pleasant walk around the walking track and the Edgewater Walk. I suspect this is the first port of call for most cachers doing this trail, but it marked the start of the second half for me, after having a break to collect a tricky GC cache nearby. After collecting the cache, I paused to check out some of the building going on across the river and while I did, spotted two dolphins swimming at a leisurely pace downstream towards the bay. Glad I didn't start at this end Dancing TFTC caughtatwork Very HappyClan Cerberus

Bored out of my gourd at home, I decided a decent walk was in order. Thankfully, the weather agreed, so I figured this new series of hides was a good incentive.

And so it was, a neat variety of hides, with not too many worries about muggles, and a fine late afternoon caching experience.

Thanks, C@W, for keeping me at least moderately fit and sane.

When we retired , over ten years ago we had thought that we had said goodbye forever to writing treatises as part of earning our living. Little did we know what dragon Zone had in store for us - who can ignore a challenge even though it involves writing copious words. Fortunately neither of us appears to have lost the knack.

We do hope however that occasionally some innocent geocacher will read one of our missives and may even find something useful. We know that our work related treatises were never read, some questions may have been asked if they had been read. Our masters dutifully ticked off that the required documents had been handed in, accountability met so book closed.

Our latest treatises may be occasionally read and enjoyed by fellow caching tragics - or may be we are just kidding ourselves. We did however have fun reaching this goal. Of course, having reached this goal we feel duty bound to maintain our word average.

With our latest trip to the big island coming rapidly to an end we had a few loose ends to tie off - the ten caches making up the Edgewater Walk Series was one of these - apologies caught@work we really dont expect you to read them all.

We set off early this morning to find these. It was blowing a gale and walking into the wind was hard work. We could see that this would be a lovely area to walk on balmy evenings and cool summer mornings. Even with the unpleasant conditions there were plenty of dog walking muggles, running and riding muggles and a few power walking muggles using the tracks.

Accurate coordinates and excellent hints lead to quick finds of all the caches. These were well hidden but in your face as usual. All containers and contents were in excellent condition. We do love caught@work caches - rarely a micro or nano in sight.

Thanks caught@work for this cache and for this great little series. Fortunately there were only caches today and no dead bodies.

Wow, certainly some big houses over the other side of the river. Quick check on web showed some big prices as well. As for the cache, a short search at the location and the cache was soon spotted. Log was signed ok, but it took a few attempts to get the log back in and the item closed. Something to do with my position while doing it I think, but all was ok and the cache is all good.

Thanks again, 7 down 3 to go..... Very Happy

For the last cache of the series I not only did I not look at the hint, but I didn't look at the description either until after I had found the cache. With so few trees along here the name was all I needed.
Approaching muggles were far enough away that I was able to find, sign and replace the cache while they still some distance away.
Thanks caughtatwork for the series. This was a really nice way to spend an hour walking around on a sunny afternoon.
