Found during a family trip to complete the Otago Rail Trail. We enjoyed all the excuses to get off the bikes and explore all the nooks and crannies on the way. A very beautiful area, particularly with the autumn colours on display.
Somehow this one still made it onto my GPS even though it was archived. Found easily enough as the container was open on the ground and the contents strewn about. Put it back together and replaced in what looked like its hidey hole. The log book was too wet to sign, so took a photo instead.
Many thanks to all the owners of the great caches we found along the way.

Easy find on day 2 of ORT. Did not sign log book as it was swimming in water. Lid is cracked. I turned it upside down to stop it filling up again. Needs replacing as mentioned by many others.
As this cache has been out of action for too long, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Very easy to find. Couldn't sign username because log book was too wet but TFTC anyway!
I noticed that this cache has been in serious need of owner attention for a period of time well in excess of the period of "a few weeks" as contemplated by the cache guidelines published on Geocaching.com. While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for you and block other caches from entering the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time, we can't do so forever. Please either repair/replace this cache, or archive it (using the archive listing link in the upper right) so that someone else can place a cache in the area, and geocachers can once again enjoy visiting this location.
If you plan on repairing this cache, please log a note to the cache (not email) within the next 30 days so I don't archive the listing for non-communication.

scrambled straight passed this on our first try dodged a few muggles finally found it
Find no. 9 on (or near) the rail trail. Because the logbook is still saturated I wasn't able to sign it. Took the attached photo which shows the cracked lid.
If I'd read the logs earlier I might have been able to replace the container. Unfortunately that didn't happen and it looks like the owner has lost interest.

Good spot for a cache. Unfortunately as noted the cache is absolutely soaked so we couldn't sign the log. TFTC!!!

Found on our third day while taking on the Otago Rail Trail with the Green Team. Assistance by the caching partners, GPYesss, Brontysaurus, MrPills and Jacko. TFTC.
This part of the rail trail was certainly a highlight. We loved the tunnels! Wish we had read these logs in advance however, as the cache was again wet because the lid is cracked and the logbook was saturated. Unfortunately we didn't have a replacement cache with us.
Container is cracked and logbook is very wet. Would be good if someone adopted this great location since the cache owner has not responded to repeated needs maintenance logs. We're from Australia otherwise we would be first in line!!!
Otago Rail Trail day trip. Nice cache at the Poolburn No 2 tunnel. Plenty of people here but a quick scamble soon had the cache in hand. Cache was full of water and I could not sign the log. I emptied and dried the cache as best I could. TFTC.

Despite cache correct way up and closed there was about 800mls of water in 1 lt container - doesn't rain this much here?!
Drained and put back, but no show of signing log.

Enjoying a day trip on the Otago Rail Trail and taking in some geocaching along the way.
As per yesterday's finder's note, log book soaked and needs to be replaced.

When I found the cache it was lying out in the open. Everything inside the cache is soaked. Place the cache back where I think it should have been, and alot drier there too.
Had to trust the GPS sending me up here. Found the cache easily. Drained out a puddle of water, but didn't have the time or resources to dry out the log book and other items.
I pulled up to this one as a muggle cyclist was stopping from the other direction. So I ended up spending quite some time admiring the scenery and chatting to the muggle before I was able to start the search.
When I ended up finding the cache, I found that the lid was cracked slightly and the log a bit damp.
Thanks for the cache, xaria

Another good reason to stop while riding the rail trail. A good view from GZ, thanks.
Love the name! Easy find on a great trail day. Thanks for the cache as it makes the day roll along. No swaps.
One of many caches we did on our 3 day bike tour on the Otago Rail Trail. Today we had best weather. Thnaks for making it such a varied trip with all the caches.
This was number one tunnel for us. This was one of the better sections of the Rail Trail.
Cheers and thanks,

4 / 8 for the day while on the rail trail. TFTC. Always nice to do a cache that's been around longer than I've been caching. Found while with yr nines from McGlashan while on the rail trail - naturally a whole lot of rock got thrown down into the river here...
Nearly didn't find as daddy muffin thought it was called 25 which made no sense. mummy muffin thought it would be near a toilet . Wrong again. It took a mini muffin to find this one when the muggles had departed TFTC
My girl and I were glad to have met with novalightning and his father while enjoying the Rail Trail

Rode a pushbike in from the Eastern end (Thurlow Road) crossing, well worth the effort 2 tunnels and a Viaduct very scenic, TFTC Xaria see you at a rally sometime, say hi to Dale - Cheers (Brent - K100RS)
Visited Central Otago to take part in NZ Orienteering Champs, ride the Rail Trail and enjoy this beautiful area including many sites around Queenstown. We (Roel, Di and Nigel) enjoyed the trip with beautiful weather (some morning frosts!) This was our twelfth cache on the trail. Loads of cyclists stopped at the other end of the tunnel to take a walk, relatively quiet this end. Thanks a lot.

Found while spending a couple of days on the rail trail with the family for the school holidays. Fantastic weather and great ride.
Good Friday, biked up with 5 kids inc. Miss 6 on her first bike ride from the Thurlow Rd end, they loved it. Hid wee Easter eggs in the long tunnel which they had to find with their torches. Will do again with the same crew from the Lauder end. TFTC. Our 50th cache.
Was visiting my father-in-law at the Lauder Pub and thought it was about time I shot up here. A nice wee bike ride, just need to get a baby sitter for a weekend so I can knock the whole trail off.
We did this cache on a good bike ride in from Lauder with the all 6 of the Emvy_Us crew. Sure was good cycling on the return journey back to the cars at Lauder down hill tail wind. Had a bit of a hicup in the larger tunnel when 2 of the boys got their bikes tangled up in the dark. We needed a glow worm to untangle the mess. TFTC
First find of our second day on the Rail Trail. Interesting spot, I love the tunnels and bridges around here. Signed log, TFTC!
Thought the titile may have referred to something else, but anyway, found the cache quickly. Thanks xaria.
Interesting climb up, funtastic day on the RT, took a flying elephant left a rattle
Not easy getting a good moving fix on the location in this terain. Was going to give up but finally got there. TFTH TNLN
Day two. Starting to grunt up the hill. Head torch found wanting in these tunnels. Time for an upgrade for those night caches.
Oops! Forgot to log this one. Must be getting an old hand at this geocaching as I was riding the rail trail (no gps) and dismounted at this spot. Saw a likely hidie hole that looked a bit suspicious and what do you know.... a cache! TFTC.
Another wonderful day on the Otago Central Rail Trail. Many thanks for the cache along the way.
I borrowed a bike from a colleague nearby and decided to do this one. I hadn't been on a bike for a small number of years and after I got back I walked like The Duke.
I went past the GZ through the other tunnel and onto the Poolburn Viaduct. What an amazing old structure!!! Cam back and found and signed the log. I was quite thankful it was downhill all the way back to Lauder.
Cheers for the cache.

Got it at last. It's been on our list for a year or so. Have passed underneath a couple of times but it's a bit hard to stop off and cache during the Goldrush multisport race.
The old logbook is still sodden, but the rest of the cache OK. We have removed the old log and are drying it out. We could post it to the cache owner or return it to the cache in the next month or two.

Another knocked off along the rail trail. Yet another grey day, so the views weren't what they could have been. Found easily and no muggle issues no the trail today - only came across two others in 50+ km of cycling. TFTC.
Great place to hide a cache Shortly after I climbed down a group of riders came down the hill and clambered up for a photoshoot before going through the tunnel. Timing is everything.

Decided to take a chance on the weather and walk up to the high viaduct from Lauder. Got very cold on the walk down , had all our warm things on in the end but a lovely walk.
TFTC, nice location, but log book is wet. Needs drying or replacing. Also spotted an unlogged geocache on exit to tunnel, west end on right side of track, about 1.5m from ground
Sent Mr Hotspud up for this one. Two other cyclists we kept meeting up with noticed what we were doing so may have some new recruits.SL TFTC
Awesome. Thanks GSVNoFixedAbode . I wasn't going to be able to get to replace it to next weekend.
On my way past today (Rail trail BUSY AS!!) so popped in and replaced cache with new container, logbook, and a few trade items. Cache now 1ltr snaplock hidden in original position. Old logbook saturated: bagged and left in cache.
Cheers,
G.

Definitely a mess but we did extract a plastic bag with some damp papers in it. Needs a clean up but we enjoyed the scurry around!
Hi Xaria!
It looked like a little bike trip for you! I just wisited the cache and it was destroyed. I don't know if it by muggles or by nature, but I only found the little plastic bag and the logbook.
I putted the remains under the big rock in front of the tunnel and covert it with some rocks!
(S45°03.343 E169°44.247)
If you ask me, a perfect spot the put a new cache!
Good luck and thanks for the cach
