Logs
Found this one a long while ago, but didnt have a pen with me on that occasion.Took the opportunity this afternoon to scrawl my name into the log once and for all, after watching GWS peg back the Hawks. Ahh you couldnt write thisCanberras own Tom Green snaps the winner with barely a minute on the clock. Cue mayhem and the big big sound.Lemme just say once more, terrific cache!
No access permitted to Manuka Oval as a secure facility for national level AFL and cricket games. Will have to find another time buying ticket to event I suppose!
Found today after GWS vs Lions game This cache is a great hide, and Im so glad Ive finally done it. After the game was over we adventured with Scaphoid, against the crowd to get to bay 3 (we were on bay 20!)The cache and log looks great with about 4 spaces left. So I hope the CO doesnt mind that I dropped a spare log that should give this cache 150+ spots more. This might also give Manuka oval about 5250 more dollars if every one of those 150 cachers buys on average a $35 ticket.I dont know. I got in free of charge on a complimentary ticket. So thanks to Buckoraider, Im already breaking the system To all of those who dont want to buy a ticket I say: Befriend him. He might be the loophole on the system you could be needing. Thanks Fore! (favourite point for me )Ps: go cats!
Ive had my eye on this cache for a while so I was happy when an opportunity presented itself after the GWS vs Lions game. After the game, baristayan and I struggled against the flow of people trying to get out to make our way to Bay 3. By the time we got there, the muggles had scattered onto the ground enjoying the beautifully maintained oval. Over the years Ive spent a lot of time at this ground, watching AFL and cricket (in all its forms), working in the media stand, and playing and training cricket. From GZ you get a fantastic view of the ground and, personally, this cache perfectly pays homage to the history of Manuka Oval and the epic sports events that are held here. I hope this cache can live on for a long time to come and continue to bring cachers together at Canberra's iconic Manuka Oval. Love this cache, gets a fav point from me Thank you Fore!P.S. Go Pies!!
What an obnoxious reply. I think you can see that park and grabs are not my thing so dont belittle me. A cache needs to be accessible more than once every blue moon. This one is not.
This geocacher reported that this geocache should be archived. A community volunteer reviewer has been notified.
Lack of access is not a reason for maintenance. The cache access depends upon what the grounds-staff are doing, and what else might be going on. You don't necessarily need a ticket - plenty of finders have done it without a ticket. Patience and timing. Not all caches are park and grab at will. If that will disappoint you, please just cross this off your personal list and leave it for others to enjoy, as they tend to do.
This is locked away and I get you say its not 24/7 but its not even that. Gate was open in my return but staff told me I could not enter.
Please read the cache description as it advises that this cache is not available 24/7.
This is a cache I have known about for some time but never had the oportunity to attempt it... but it did disappoint well worth the time.

As per the description, this cache is not always available. Today is one of those days as the first match of BBL|12 is on this afternoon.
Cheeky hide!! Managed to get myself in here on a Thursday and wasn’t going to pass up the chance to grab it!
No pen so here’s the proof, thanks for the cache!

DNF due to some event on, we couldn’t enter through gate. Will be back for sure
That beat sneaky hide caches aweaome one thanks for the caches

Found after watching an AFLW game. Our seats were only 17m away but there was a muggle sitting at the GZ. I waited him out but the dude stayed in his seat for an extra 15 minutes after the game. The wait was excruciating but my patience eventually paid off. TFTH
Quick find before the BBL semi final. Found with SJG66, Cookiemonster5 and Pomagedon.
Am assuming one can only get this cache with a ticket to a sports all event. Likely to be a DNF forever for this bookworm.
A bit of spare time prior to the T20 Women’s World Cup cricket matches leads to some time to pick up this cache.
Amazing spot!! The paint on the lock box threw me off a bit but we got there! Thank you
I have been waiting for a game here to try and sneak this find. Thought it would be more fun to do while there were a lot of people around. Tonight’s BBL cricket game was suspended due to a massive smoke cloud, so I took the opportunity to stealth through the smokey clouds to retrieve this cache while everyone around was distracted by the smoke.
Fun one. Thanks Fore!
Fun one. Thanks Fore!
I've had this caching sitting here waiting for a find for so long but closed gates have always been my issue. So today while driving past I thought I would drive the loop around and what do you know, the main gate was open! Parked close by and made my way in with just a few gardeners watering and no one else and with the hint took a seat and made the find, so very pleased to have this ticked off!!! Sent off a few messages the gate was open to others I also knew wanted this too. Thanks for the cache.
So pleased to get the message today that the gates were open, so I trundle down, make quick find and get back to work before anyone noticed!
Another trip to Canberra to speak at a conference and I found this one right before they were about to shut the gate! tftc
Omg I’m so happy to have this one ticked off!
This little green dot has been mocking me for so long, but every time I came by the gates were closed or an event was on that I didn't want to pay to see.
BUT today, Tankengine and I were in the area and I asked about popping in here to see. Tankengine was very confident about just walking in, but I was a little nervous. I was so very glad to have him there with me. We parked in the carpark and we walked through the open gates and then into the stadium. There wasn't a sole around - that we could see anyway.
With spot on coords and an amazing hint I found the cache immediately. Signing the log felt so good as the feeling of instant gartification swept over me. I replaced the cache and then we had a quick look at the feild before heading back to the car and on our way to the next stop on our list. Thank you Tankengine for all your help on this one. And of course TFTC Fore!!!!

TFTC from the Viking.
I have wondered about getting this one for ages but never expected to be around during a game. A quick walk down from work past the gates to find they were all open on a week day afternoon.
No-one around so I wandered in and made a quick grab.
All good - cheers

I was in Queanbeyan with my boyfriends family, As I've not cached before, I signed some logs of the caches I found with XC, until I came up with my caching name.
I had lots of fun, met some nice people and found some great hides.
Thanks for placing the cache for us to find.

In Queanbeyan to attend the Mega. So great to get here early to spend time catching up with some many familiar faces. Always taking the time to grab a cache, when the opportunity allowed it.
In and around Canberra, picking up a few more finds while here.
Thanks Fore! for all the effort of placing the cache for us to find and doing the maintenance to keep it in play

Return trip to Canberra after 31 years (on our honeymoon). This time attending Clearwater Mega event at Queanbeyan. Found with Team Outnabout whilst attending a GWS v Fremantle game. TFTC Fore!.
Workman were working on the grounds but were happy for us to look around. And thanks to the hint we knew exactly where we wanted to look. What a great view of a game you'd get from here. TFTC Fore!

Day 1 of the First Canberra Test.
Gee the stands empty quick once the days play ends... except for the other catcher who beat me to GZ. Nice to meet you.
Full log to follow.

After a fun first day at Canberra's first cricket test, I fought the tide of people leaving after stumps to get around to GZ. I'd just gotten the CIH when a like-minded cricket fan joined me to sign the log. Nice to meet you, enjoy day 2 with the Richies TFTC, Fore!
I've never been sure how best to approach this cache so it's long been on the backburner.
Today I decided I would just do it. So I did. Simple.

In Canberra for the ACT MTBO champs and had a free hour for a loop around the hotel area to check out the bike. SL TFTC
Watawieh from Norfolk Island South Pacific. Cricket practice was in full swing today. There were players on the pitch practicing their catches. The nets outside were all occupied with the lads practicing their bowling & batting. TFTC
Very clear instructions made this one doable at night and meant I didn't have to deal with muggles. Lucky the gate was open too. Tftc!
This one taunted me continuously when I worked in Kingston, although I never felt right about going into the oval when the gates happened to be open. Today I noticed an ad for the T-20 women's cricket match that was on tonight. A 15 minute bus ride (free both ways as it turned out) and $10 entry for an Australia v England match in any sport is good value in my eyes and when it comes with the chance at a long-standing geocache, it's a no-brainer!
I came in through the gates on what turned out to be the opposite side of the ground and made my way towards the bay in the hint. With a decent but far from packed crowd, I figured there might be a chance of getting the cache, maybe during the break between innings. Just as I got to the bay I saw a couple making straight for THE seats. Oh no!! Luckily the caching gods intervened and they decided to go to another bay entirely.
I took up residency just beside THE seats, which turned out to be one of the best spots in the place. Three overs in, I made my move and had the cache in hand. I casually signed the log and nursed the cache for a couple of overs before casually replacing it, entirely unnoticed by nearby patrons.
It turned out to be a really enjoyable match. Two centuries, including a cracking 117 not out for Australia. After posting 178 and having England at 3-30 Australia looked set for victory but then dropped five apparently easy catches in what turned into a 139 run fourth wicket partnership. A couple of late wickets made for some excitement, but England hit the total with seven balls in hand. Oh well, we still won the Ashes!
Thanks For The Catch, errrr, Cache

Picked the right time to try this one. Gates open, place deserted. Glad for the hint as the coords had me on the entry road. I hate steps but the find was worth it.

Quick find on my way to work. Without the hint this would have been very difficult. TFTC
TFTC. Finally I can check this one as a find. Every time I have been near the area there has been a game on or the gates are shut.
Found after the footy to-day, had to wait 5 minutes for the muggles to clear. Unfortunately Melbourne lost the footy. TFTC.

It was -1 degrees when I left the hotel for my big walk this morning. I love walking around the parliamentary circle and Lake Burley Griffin and do this walk every time I come to Canberra. This time I had a bunch of solved puzzles and a lust for multi-caches, which made my walk around 14km long. Loooved this one too! Had to give a gold coin donation to get in - there was a UNSW footy match on - looked like U/18s. I found the cache easily due to the nice hint and hung around to watch some footy. Thanks for the cache, Fore!

I was last here over a year ago after I grabbed dinner nearby, but the gates were all locked up and the cache was inaccessible, but it was missing anyway so that's ok! Today i had some last minute time to kill before I had to be somewhere so this seemed like the perfect cache as it had easy parking and access (hopefully??)
It was just after 5pm so I thought it would be locked again but I was lucky and the gates were open! Lots of cars in there too so I'm not sure what time they lock the gates or if those cars just stay there? (cars but no people in the stadium?)
There was only one person on the field, they seemed to just be practicing their football kicks.
So I put down the GPS and relied entirely on the hint which proved perfect and made a quick find!
Love it! Caches like this are fun as it is in a very unique location. Favourite point

Found some time ago on a cold, wet and darkish evening. Unfortunately it appears my incompetence with the new app prevented the log going through. What a great little oval to sit up there and watch a game. TFTC Fore!
This was my third cache for the day. I thought I would take a punt and see whether I could get into the oval. The gate was open and I just cycled through. Once there I wasn't sure how my being there would be received so I quickly made my way to the GZ and SL. A great location and a very clever hide. TNLN. TFTC.
I was in Canberra for a course. It was pretty grueling, and by the end of the first of three weeks, we all needed some time out! We walked from where we were staying at ADFA to Manuka, to visit a bookshop and get something to eat and drink. We were in desperate need of exercise and space! I picked up a few geocaches along the way. Those new to caching were amazed at the fact that this cache was so cleverly hidden in such a public space!
Thanks for the cache, Fore!

Really impressed we could get in even though there was no official games on. Quick retreival while some kids were practicing on the grass. TFTC
As a cricketer lover it was a must find. Had loads of fun. Thanks. Didn't have a pen but just so you know
Great ground would love to see a game of cricket. Found during a cricket trip with didodiday.
My niece is living a couple of minutes up the street. Would have walked, but the rain was coming down heavily! Nobody around today - only one friendly cleaner who was servicing the "conveniences"! Good job the clue was specific. I can imagine how suspicious this would look on a day when the stands were full!
Thanks for the challenge...
Thanks for the challenge...
Absolutely no one in the grounds when I was there. Could have streaked across the field, found the cache, signed the log, enjoyed the view (so to speak) and replaced it back without being noticed. I didn’t (streak). TNLNSL TFTC
My first visit to Canberra and I was at Manuka well before game time today for work. So while we were setting up I noticed there was a cache in the actual ground and made a bee line straight for it before the crowd started to roll in and I had to start work as well! I would have struggled without the hint and probably would have looked very suspicious searching around for it so I was glad it was quite specific. Thanks for the cache , my first in the nation's capital.
Sitting watching a very one -sided match of AFL. Sydney Swans 15.16 to 1.6! But we found a cache as well!! Last time we could not even get in!!! Thanks for this cache. Howzat! Sorry, wrong game.
I happened to be passing and saw that a local AFL game was on, so I paid $5 and wandered in. The Women's were about to kick off, so I positioned myself next to the cache, with a hot pastie and a sausage roll - this was particularly pleasant, as the day was quite average with intermittent rain.
I watched the match and then had a quick look when the ball was nearby and the nearest spectators were closely watching the match. I spied the container tucked away, then, at the next interesting point of the match, reached in and collected. I signed without raising any suspicion, then, at the third (but certainly not last) interesting point of the match, I returned the container to its secret hidey hole.
I must say, I remember the days playing underage AFL (VFL then) when the day was wet and the ball was like soap. We made best progress when we just kicked it along the ground like soccer. TFTC Fore!

Wow ... that hint sure IS specific - lol
I read the hint almost straight away, rather than look around a bit first, because I was in a hurry (had a spare 10 minutes on my way somewhere and ducked past to see if the gate was open so I could grab it to keep my streak going I am really glad I decided to read the hint though - otherwise I probably would have spent 15 (that I didn't have minutes looking all around everywhere in that place that it wasn't - lol
TFTC - cool spot to hide one ... and a good excuse to actually have a stickybeak inside this place

Our 65th find in Canberra....it feels so odd that you can just walk in while there is no one else around haha...thanks for bringing us here and TFTC!
Thanks to my geocaching secretary, allrounder, the cache has been replaced...cache on!
Nice views from near the cache today as the ground is being prepared for this weekend's GWS/Geelong clash...
Hopefully my geocaching secretary, allrounder, can check this one this week seeing as she's having a week off her other job...
What a great location! Managed to walk right in today with not a muggle in site and all gates open for a browse. Have found what I believe to be the remnants of the cache but will have a chat with the CO and compare photos before I log one way or he other ) thanks for the excursion!
I'm concerned about trespassing...ill go sign in on a visitor pass at least then I'm covering my end
The gates were locked and it was dark since we were looking at about 8:45 pm.
Seems like it could be missing regardless?
Also I heard on the news that the GWS Giants are planning a WHOPPING $800 Million redevelopment plan. So if the ACT government approves it, the cache location will be disrupted anyway! Might want to just keep a watch.

My geocaching secretary, allrounder, will check on this cache when she gets a chance...not sure why someone would post a NM when they admit they didn't actually look for the cache...
In Canberra from Sydney for a training course. Wqlk d here from m the hotel after training. You know, it's just not going to be found this evening but what a surprise. I'm sitting below GZ now watching India vs Australia in a women's ODI cricket match. Entry was free. Fantastic! The top stand is roped off as a Cricket ACT corporate box. I did sneak up for a peek and a feel but it's just way too hard to be stealthy. So a really fun DNF and I've been able to see more than fore runs with India chasing Australia's 276. Did see two fores so far. Will have to find this on my next visit. Cheers... Gaztek
