Glorious day for a climb to the trig point last Thursday - had to wait until back in mobile range to post. Sadly, did not find after about 15 minutes attempting to search. Description was a bit tricky as there is no longer a plastic barricade. May also have been a bit off with the positioning due to poor mobile reception, as it appeared to be located off the cliff edge when using the navigate function. Did not want to risk a fall! Photographic evidence (screenshot) that I got really close. Worth it for the climb, though.

yeah that's a robust cache Smile went for a walk up Pigeon House with some scouts and made sure we could find the new cache while we were there. lots more undergrowth than when we found the old one. thanks Rats for keeping this there.

03-Aug-23
This one is back online.
Made the trek to the top of Pigeon House on a beautiful day only to find the cache exactly where it was meant to be.
Decided to change it out for a more robust container which now hangs in the tree.
It’s great to see the local management have been doing some improvements on the trail to GZ.

03-Aug-23
Cache is back online. It was never missing. See maintenance log for new robust cache placed at GZ

Still working on a theft proof container

20-Mar-23
Just organising a new container that I can secure to something on top

28-Jan-23
Once again the cache has been muggled. I'll disable the listing till I can replace the container. Sorry for any inconvenience

27-Jan-23
Having conquered the summit on a very cloudy day with The Matetrix, Czechboy14 and MilesMorales2 decided there was still plenty of time for a little exploration. Reading through the previous logs I had a decent picture of the task ahead.

Leaving the trail behind I weaved my way over, under, around and through before coming across the ‘magic rock’. After a solid search at GZ I was unable to locate the cache, muggled once again it seemed! Retraced my steps back to the trail and down we went, just under 4 hours on the mountain.

Advised the CO of the missing cache container. Plans to return to the loft already penciled in, need to catch the views across the mountain ranges. TNLN TFTC

10-Jan-23
Had a good look in a lot of nooks and crannies but couldn't spot the cache. Couldn't positively say we were in the correct spot from the description but one looked particularly possible and we gave it a good shot. Excellent walk anyway, proved a few things to myself for an upcoming Coast to Coast walk in the UK and saw some wonderful views both from the top and during the ascent/descent. Not sure what state my knees will be in tomorrow but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Even got a flyby from a navy helicopter. Thanks for the walk. Watchlist to see if I was correct.

02-Jan-23
Wow what a walk! Totally worth it in the end. The view was breathtaking, more so than the walk was. Unfortunately after about 45 mins of searching we found nothing. We tried to locate the chockstone but there was none identifiable. We explored every face at every level we could and spent too much time in crevasses.
May have been looking in the wrong area but I don’t think I’ll be back to attempt this one again.
Off we go to Victoria now.

04-Oct-22
Off to the south coast of NSW for a week. TFTC.
Did this with Billygruff and family (ages 8,8,10). Tough walk up though enjoyed the various stages.
Tried to access from the top. Bad idea. Down the last stairs and then off track. Amazing area with views and cliffs. Quick find at GZ and resured the TB. Awesome.

04-Oct-22
TFTC, took the wrong approach initially

09-Jun-22
DNF. Looked around for a while under all the rocks but no luck.

23-Jan-22
Can’t believe I made the climb all the way up here just to have the coords indicate cache was over the edge! Had a good look around up top anyway, with no luck. Coming back down the ladders and maybe it’s actually on a lower level?
As it was getting late & we still had to get back down before the sun went down, I did not have time to explore more.
Great to finally tick this location off the list though, and achieving the summit was well worth the effort.
Good luck with this one. Unfortunately, I will not be back to search again.

15-Jan-22
For a bucks weekend, we decided to camp around Tomerong, and we had planned on revisiting pigeon house mountain, which used to be an annual haunt but havnt revisited for about 3 years now.

With some DNFs suggesting container missing on this one, the CO said I could replace if necessary - searched around the location with a previous finder, who confirmed the cache was missing. We searched around the tall grass and found the damaged container lid.

It was great to see the new renovated ladders and platform, a lot nicer up on the main platform due to it being a lot larger. Went around to some of the caves and took some drone photos of the mountain - some of the greenery seems to be overgrown compared to what I remember, but no complaints.

Thanks for placing this cache, this is a fantastic location.

New container, log, pencil, and TB dropped.

30-Dec-21
Planning on doing this on the 15th Jan assuming good weather. If log has gone walkabouts, happy to replace with a small sistema if CO gives permission.

29-Dec-21
Climbed to the top, and my GPS said I was just a metre away, but there were some many other hikers about that I couldn't duck down to where I needed to look. I'll hopefully try again sometime in the off season. Beautiful views - will post a photo at some stage. A great walk - highly recommended.

24-Nov-21
Looked for a fair bit but no dice! Will be back to check again sometime well into the future

29-May-21
Pretty sure we located it. But it seems it's been taken or damaged. Found a lid clip.

25-May-21
Originally found this cache 6 years ago - still here and in good condition. I came here to see what the renovation on the summit looked like and decided to check up on the cache.

29-Apr-21
We Camped at Yadboro flat for 2 nights. MrT headed to Pigeon House to revisit it after about 40 years since he was last there. Once he read the description he headed to GZ and located the cache. One of the containers clips was missing. Signed log and returned. TFTC

17-Apr-21
Didn’t have any luck finding this one today. Climbed with a big group and they had started the decent so didn’t have enough time to search

Awesome views. Woke up at 4:30am for a sunrise view from the top. Well worth it. Found with Sophiescout and scoutkoalabear. WOW!

Turn left as soon as you reach the top of the ladders, and go over the handrail, we were a bit lost at first but the photos helped a lot. TFTC

04-Feb-21
After enjoying magnificent views from the top it was time to start hunting....after a few false starts.....Found!!! So glad to add this one to my collection of founds.

My wife galiantly found the crevasse and I crawled through. Sadly I only had a short search as my boys were wanting to commence the descent. Still we come down the coast for hols yearly so next time we climb up I know where to go. Tftc. It’s a great spot up here.

A weekend at the coast staying at Burrell Pines. Spent this morning climbing Pigeon House Mountain. My muggle cousin and I left the carpark at 9:15 and reached the top at 10:25. We spent a while "admiring" the view - mostly just cloud! We then wandered around a bit till we found the crevasse, and soon after had the cache in hand. Back at the car at 11:50. Passed many families with young kids heading up as we came down - good to see. TFTC.

Found after a lovely climb. Lots of activity at the top, but it was easy enough to go unnoticed. Thanks!

15-Sep-18
So beautiful! Have completed the castle 3 times and have always wanted to do this walk as well. Along with me, my geobuddy and the geokids, we loved the effort. We left early and we had the place almost to ourselves, The views were spectacular and the wildflowers were just gorgeous. The cave near the cache location was incredible and we saw various birds that came so close to us. Thankyou for bringing us here, quality cache!

This has been a long time in the finding! When we first moved away from Brisbane I remember a colleague in Sydney telling me about Pigeon House mountain. We then moved to Canberra and I have been told about it a number of times since. Yet we haven't really ventured down to the Budawangs or the coast at all! Finally we organised a short trip away and this was definitely on the hit list. The rain held off just long enough for this walk, although The Castle will have to wait for another trip. The road wasn't too bad, but I'm glad Pagan was along for this ride. The walk was steep of course (although not as steep as Stockyard Spur, last weekend's adventure) but there was lovely scenery along the way and the track was well-formed and obviously very well-travelled. We made it up in 55 minutes. Great views from the top and ok, I understand why the Budawangs are so spectacular now... Big Grin. It took a couple of attempts to find the right approach to the cache but the description made sense in the end. A quick find once we were in the right spot. Very happy to have done this walk finally. The legs felt it the next day for sure. Loki also managed to pick up two ticks. This is why we don't leave Canberra Wink. So glad to get a cache up here too. Thanks The Rats.

Woot! First to sign new log!!! (yes need a life...)

Nabbed this one on a beaut but screamingly windy day up there. Loved everything about this place. The walk, the views and of course the cache.

Thanks for replacing. Well worth it. Gets a fave.

06-Jan-18
I'm disabling this cache till I can check on it. A logbook is still available for those keen to still make the walk.

06-Jan-18
Found with friends no container log in plastic bag under rock. Coordinates not reliable on this one.

06-Jan-18
A beautiful stroll up to to top of the Pidgeon house is not complete without a visit to this cache.
The cache is not at the coordinates
GZ coordinates we found are S35 20.975 E150 15.914

24-Dec-17
I loved this hike

The ladders were especially hard since I had a broken arm but I got there in the end. I took some friends on the hunt for this cache, it was tricky to find GZ because coordinates where way off (36-40 meters) but the description helped me find GZ. Once I got to GZ I found the cache very easily because it was laying on the ground with no plastic Tupperware to protect it so I put the log under cover and put a rock on top of it so I wouldn’t get blown away or wet.

This cache needs a little bit of maintenance but apart from that I really enjoyed the hike

I had a huge weekend down in the Milton/Ulladulla area. An overnight camping trip at Yadboro Flats for a mates birthday was the main reason for the visit. To come this far, it made sense to climb Pigeon House Mountain. I've heard many stories about this bushwalk, so I was looking forward to it!

I got up early and hit the trail by 8am. The first 800m are killer! I didn't pace myself, so I was truly out of puff and needed a breather. By the time the path levelled out, it was definitely welcomed! The flat terrain was over in a blink and then it was back to stairs and an incline. Eventually I made it to the seat before the ladders, so I took another break before heading on upwards. The ladder/stair systems were pretty fun - something different.

At the top, I did the standard touristy thing - took heaps of photos of the views etc.
Then it was time to look for the cache. I headed back down from the trig to find the chockstone. I found it after a little while, so a quick chimney climb, then a crawl, then a small scramble, and I was at GZ and had CIH. The trip back down to the car was over in a flash - then it was time to head home.

Thanks to The Rats for another enjoyable bushwalking experience. Another well known bushwalk ticked off the to-do list. Appreciate the adventure! Favourite Point Awarded - for the views, for the walk, for the ladders. Cheers!

Had a nice hike up, spending tonight on top, down early tomorrow.
Saw two huge lizards on the way up. Glad they just wanted to get out of my way.

FP for putting it up here.

Thank you, this was an awesome cache with fantastic views! Really enjoyed it!!

Very annoying after to walking this far. Oh well will have to have another crack another time

As amazing as it may be to anyone that knows my bushwalking history, I have actually never climbed Pigeon House... until now.

With my Scout Troop in tow, we camped at Yadboro Flats and came up here for a walk on Saturday. The car park was very full; clearly this is a pretty popular walk at the moment. We passed a lot of people both coming up, and back down, the walk.

It was a little disappointing that there were so many stairs, and so few ladders; I was hoping for something a little more exhilarating, alas, it was not to be. Once at the top, the views were breathtaking. My personal favourite was looking west over The Castle, and North over Mt Bushwalker. We dodged the crowds and found a big flat platform to eat lunch on. I then snuck away to find the cache in solitude, and then continued around to the large cave under the trig point. I sat here for a while enjoying the fact that I could be completely alone, despite so many people being so close by.

Before too long it was time to go and find the Scouts that were exploring every nook and cranny that they could climb into. We headed back down to camp to start cooking dinner for the night.

An extremely enjoyable walk, with views worth every step. I'll be back up here, maybe for a sunset/sunrise next time.

Cheers (favourite point awarded)

Second attempt at finding this one. Love the challenge of the walk up here. Not sure we took the most direct route to the cache from the top but found it fairly easily once in the right location. Went back out a different way and headed home. One of the best caches we have found. Tftc!

21-Apr-17
Lovely walk. Had a bite to eat right above cache site- but had no idea until we started looking.

Had been holding off on my 300th find as I wanted to make sure it was 'a good one'. Did this beautiful walk with the family. The walk is not too hard but there's plenty of up and down hill to go round Wink. The views from the top are great and you can see to the coast even on a sightly 'fuzzy' day. Luckily it was coolish and overcast for the climb but it cleared up and the sun came out for the final ascent. Plenty of cool exploring to be done after going through the crevasse with a cool weathered cave nearby. If you are really looking for panoramic views, I'm talking a 270° unobstructed view rather than the one from the trig with the vegetation in the way, there is a flat plateau just before the first ladder which you can easily climb onto, and the views are definitely worth it. Certainly a great spot for a cache and I like how the GZ is out of the way of the busy track. A worthy 300th find for me. Tftc!!!

19-Jan-17
We sadly couldn't find this one. We narrowed the 'crevasse' down to two spots and searched for over 30 min but no luck. Not sure what we were missing.
Sad

15-Jan-17
Great walk, but unfortunately no views today. Had myself prepared for a long search after reading some logs, but somehow the hint made all sence to me and I walked to the right area straight away and had cache in hands after 5 minutes! Another bucket list item done and that is not just the cache.

A bit of a hunt around the gz, but worth the hunt.

05-Jan-17
This one has been on the to do list for a while. Last year, after about 300mm of rain in a few days, we tried to access the old 'Chook cage' via the termeil turnoff from tomakin. Got to within 5km and had to turn around due to road conditions. This meant another 12 months wait until our 2017 beach holiday before we could try again.
No problems with access this year.
Scaled the climb and marvelled at the outstanding views and natural rock features and forest. Took us a while at the top to figure out how to get down to the cache without doing any dangerous climbing. Had to google 'crevasse' to decode the description.
After a few minutes we figured it out and once we were on the right track it was an easy find. Thanks for placing this one. An outstanding location.

19-Dec-16
After a great walk up I decided to check the phone for any nearby caches. Low and behold with my average reception I managed to find this one. Capped off great morning.

Took 2 x travel bugs

18-Oct-16
I'm still on top of Pigeon House as we speak, pretty good reception up here.

I literally spent a good 40 minutes looking for it but for some reason it just seemed to evade me Sad

Oh well..... Time to head down I guess

08-Oct-16
Well what a hike! We started out the day around 9:30am and begun the walk up the mountain. The weather threatened to take a turn for the worse but held off until we got to the second set of stairs where it became quite wet. By the time we'd arrived at the stairs it was quite chilly and seemed to have settled in. I took the stairs carefully given the wet weather but we made it up the top with little worry. There were quite a few people out and about considering the weather so there were a few times where we had to wait for people to pass in the narrow parts.

As for finding the cache, doing this in the wet was a bit of an adventure and Bonfire and myself ended up almost circumnavigating the mountain just because we went right not left at one stage but Seeker managed to bring in the goods and found the cache! Log signed quickly we huddled under a rock overhang to eat a quick bite before coming down the mountain.

TFTC!

I have been wanting to find this cache for way too long so made plans to tackle the mountain this weekend with seaker200,yuiko,154crows and melcmd.
We all met up early at south nowra then headed south.
The track in was no problems, we couldnt believe the amount of cars in the carpark!
We took our time working our way up the trail.
We stopped after the first rise for a quick morning tea,the next section of the walk was really nice with all the natives in flower.seakers paradise Wink
As we reached the ladders, we started climbing into the cloud, from here it was time to suit up in the rain gear.
Once up on top we all took off in search of the cache. It took some searching then seaker made the find.
We all jumped under a small cave out of the rain to sign the log.
154 and myself both dropped a TB each.
We walked out to the trig for a quick look at the cloudy view but couldnt see much so then straight into the closest cave for shelter and lunch.
We watched our step heading back down the wet ladders, just below out of the cloud it was dry again and enjoyed the steady dry walk back down.
From here we drove out further and found the cache at Yadboro.
Although it was wet and miserable and we couldn't see a thing from the top.its still worthy of a fav point for the adventure.
Nice one Rats Smile

Having visited the Morton National Park various times before, staying close by this weekend we took the opportunity to attempt this cache and we were well rewarded!

We had an awesome time on the walk up & the view from the top is amazing.

Thanks for the placement of this cache in such a great location

Im so glad that we found the cache. To come all this way not to find it would be a disaster. We decided to walk this a week ago not realising it would rain quite heavily the whole way. Oh well well worth it. Thank you for bringing me back to this beautiful spot. TFTC

Found with nissan 65 shrimp 92 and alyssa jade 3 on a very damp day. We thought we would be the only ones up here but carpark was quite full. Road in was fun . Lucky we had trusty geo4wd. Thankyou for placing this cache. Not sure which one we found as co ordinates were telling me the other direction. As one of my party sat for a minute they spotted it. Fav point for u.

What a wonderful walk on fathers day. Kids loved it, we made it...
.

Two of the kalmlittleeplorers decided to tackle this climb this morning and find this cache while we were up there. Amazing place and tough walk but the views were well worth it though.

So we only had the phone to find this cache, and couldn't really get the feel for where it was. The junior one of us then announced that she had found it about 20 meters back down the hill from the trig. The description of the location did not match, and there was no name or log book in this cache. There was however a couple of items and some notes stating this was an official geocahce. Now that we are home and have looked through some of the previous pics we are certain it was not the cache we were looking for. The area and the actual cache do not seem to match up. There is no Geocaching Australia caches up there so not sure what it was we found but although we signed the piece of paper in there we are not prepared to claim this one as found at this stage. We will have to go back another day and see what else we can find.

If anyone has any ideas why there might be another container claiming to be a cache up there we would love to know about it.
