Bit late too log found a few months back

03-Aug-13
We had a quick look around the most obvious places, but decided not to spend too long given the last 2 DNFs. No luck for us either.

01-Jun-13
Searched but didn't find today. Lost interest when I got stung three times from either a wasp or hornet. Not pleasant. Next time maybe. TFTC.

18-Apr-13
Searched all the "Biggies" in the area for quite a while, and searched again after coming back from finding the other one further up the trail. No luck i'm afraid, found a lot of obvious places but obviously I didn't look hard enough. Oh well there is always another day.

First time out this way. Very impressed with how tidy and well kept the village appeared. Great walk in the bush, but took a bit of searching to find the cache.

11-May-12
Out today with stretch.kerr to do the Puppy Powertrail and this cache seemed like a good leg stretcher before we started. Not sure if we were supposed to park in the village, but we made our way across a paddock and over a stream to the track. Once we arrived at GZ, we searched for awhile before we found the cache as we werent sure about the hint. Thanks for a nicely hidden cache in an area ive never been to before! TFTC! 15-Mar-12
Just love these bush walk caches. Took a wee while to find as there were a few 'biggies' around GZ and not very good GPS reception under the tree cover. TFTC.

#5110

Were in the area for a cache hunt and noticed a couple of oldies that for some reason we had not found before, quick run in soon had the cache found, the hint did not make any sense to me but it didn't matter as found in the first obvious spot I checked.
Thanks for the cache placement.
noted that tmann had not signed the logbook.

{ At 11:15 NZDT. Nice pleasant walk with 3yd old Grand daughter, incorporating playing "poo sticks" from the bridge. Nice easy find although readings were a bit variable at times. Took hair-tie but left bouncy ball.
Took TB " An alternative to Royal Mail" TFTC ]

Fairly easy find. Logbook quite damp. The nearby giant makes a really good seat Smile TFTC

01-Jan-11
Kept to the straight and narrow, thus avoiding incarceration.
No goats on duty today.
The wooden screw must have turned a blind eye as we grabbed the contraband, without being spotted.

Great location

Great cache and a fantastic hike. The disposable camera is out of photos (Great idea though!!) and the log book is a bit damp, but otherwise fantastic. We exchanged a soft koala, leaving behind a parrot and a monkey. Good one!!

Needs a good drying out and maybe new logbook.

04-Apr-10
It was raining as we headed up the track. Having checked the GPS'r 182m off I then just walked along enjoyung the bush and forgot about looking at the GPSr. Noticed a spot that would make a good place to put a cache, but still carried on behind rest of party. It was n't until we were 25m passed that I checked the co-ords, whoops the good place to put a cache - had a cache. We decided to carry on to the next and pick it up on way back. Had no trouble finding, infact the last log is from a family that had accidentaly found it. Unfortunally they had also left the logbook bag open and the camera & logbook were very damp. Put in 3 bags of silica and sealed. Son's girlfriend swapped a glass flower with a braclet. Took photo of Girlfriend and her friend. TFTC

30-Mar-10
Co-ords were a bit out for us. Did not see the "giant" initially but once I turned the corner there they were. TFTC

20-Feb-10
Cords where a bit out for me, but the hide was pretty obvious once I was near. Thanks.

Nice easy walk indeed - at least as far as this cache!

03-May-09
On our way to the other cache in this reserve, we got the ah ha feeling that we had just passed a cache and on the way back, sure enough we were right Big Grin. Maybe when you have completed a few you can start to sniff them out like a good tracker dog. Great hide T4TC.

05-Apr-09
A very picturesque native bush walk beside a pretty stream. Got close to GZ and one of us did a short bush-bash off the track - but soon beat a hasty retreat being stung twice on the way by angry wasps! Walked on a few metres and then noticed the clue items, though GPS was having problems under the trees. The initial search failed to find the cache (regular size after all!), so we decided to go on to the second cache on the track. Had a better look on the return journey and were soon rewarded by cache in hand. Very nicely hidden. Thanks for taking us on this lovely walk.

Did the two down this way today. Found this one after a brief search. Contents are a bit damp. Nice walk. TFTC

22-Feb-09
TFTC, a bit dubious about heading off into the bush because as we parked there was a man in a car with the motor running not far from the prison. Decided we came all this way so we'd give it a go, turned out he was waiting for his girlfriend!!!

17-Jan-09
Late logging
1st trip to this area after being told there was a prison here so thought
i would check it out and a cache as well.
It was dark by the time i got to the cache and the torch was going dim
but found the cache after a bit of a search.
Great walk and good to see somewhere new.

Yes, it is still there alright. Nice hide. Great reserve. Must explore it further. Left HMH for another occasion. Etrex did well on the MTB. TPLN (Took Pic, Left Nothing). Thanks a lot!

09-Feb-08
was there today with Skweak on our wild goose chase. Suggest the cache coords and clue be checked

08-Feb-08
Hunted for ages, prehaps the clue needs to change, and the co-ords were, well I dunno, we hunted for about an hour in all the logical places and didnt find anything......

07-Dec-07
Nothing found on the initial search but after a bit of a think went straight to it. Impressive guardian.

Lets go caching!!!! We have been too busy recently so it felt great to jump on Splat (TK riding shotgun..) and head over to North Shore to dig out a few. A bit rusty we headed over here to hopefully find a recent plant but rust must have invaded the navigating brain cells.
Never mind we can hunt this one. We had been here before to get another cache so knew the easy route... Got close and crossed the stream... Found the obvious big trees but GPSr was still pointing 16 metres away...???? Hmmmmm.. Trust the GPS.
Went to where GPS was pointing... nothing... Hmmm Clues don't make sense to old Commander..??
Back to obvious sentinal and sure enough TK yeowls "Found"!!!.
Mumble mumble... I guess it will be another day like that.
TK signed the log... I grabbed the Jailhouse Geocoin and left
NZ Road Race - Civic TB to continue trip.
XC would recommend owner reviewed coords and clues.
Thanks for the Cache though. Well done.

Out and about with the inimitable XenaCommander
TK has been slacking on logs lately .. will catch up soon
It was great to come back to this area.. there is another cache very close by. The nikau grove is beautiful and this retired climber was sorely tempted by the evidence of tree climbers routes.
This cache was hard to find due to off coords and an illogical clue.... hoping that the owners will pick up a few more skills and rectify matters when they have found more than just one cache themselves. Its a great game go hunting Smile
Bagging the goods before XC was a high risk venture and worth the resulting low growling noises from XC.... the cache was a decent size and very well set up.
Added a couple of glass thingys took nothing, left pawprints in the mud.

A bit of a wider look around GZ located the right spot, and the cache was found not long after!!

Took the nephews out treasure hunting, although I am sure they were expecting a buried box of gold. Nice spring like weekend stroll through the bush. Looks like remnants of a fort in the vicinity. Met other geocachers as they made they way out who gave us encouragement. Nice to meet you.
Took the drummer and left a travel comb. Probably be back as my sister has just moved in next door... no, not the "big house"!

25-Aug-07
2nd visit and still searched for ages. got the blighter in the end though, cant believe I missed that on the last visit.

Three clues, One hint - but only one is correct. Very misleading.
Loved the mainly flat walk into this cache. Took quite a while to find at GZ, mainly due to poor GPSr coverage, plus more than one match to the correct clue.
Great specimens here. Lovely ferns, and interesting rapids nearby.

Ha!
I saw this listing last night and ss I had just returned from a FTF up the road i was a bit annoyed about having to return but still thought about an early morning sortie.

However on waking at 0700hrs I said to my wife "Nah it will be too late for an FTF now". So I went back to sleep. Just as well. Congratulations Tufty and thanks for the beta testing.
