Found originally as part of rebel98 team, now created own account, re-logging as rustynz
See rebel98 log below. This bought us to a place that was a little different. Had a short explore between some showers. Many hiding places, but eventually we found the cache. Thanks again for the hide.

A new challenge series! find relics and buildings etc associated with the Tongariro power scheme.
Went hiking through Tree Trunk Gorge today and made your lovely cache row! Thanks for putting so much effort in this, so others can enjoy! Really appreciate that. Coords sometimes went odd, but finally could find the caches, sometimes needed hint though. All caches are dry, well protected and in good condition. Lovely litte Gorge! Thanks again from a German cacher living in NZ.
PS: Left my portable Travelbug stamp with logging code in logbooks (ONLY to discover, NOT to take!)

Easy find - interesting place, never knew it existed, no-one around, so we had the place to ourselves to explore. TFTC
A quick find, I have been meaning to do this one for quite a while.

Called in to drop off a TB on my way home from an unsuccessful Tongariro fishing trip.
Called here on a diversion while on the way to Rotorua today. A very pleasant spot, stopped for a picnic lunch. Cache was a quick find. Signed log, TFTC and for bringing me here.
Quick and easy find on a somewhat rainy day

After walking the Valley of the gods series both ways we drove around to claim the 2 caches on this side of the valley.
Quick find and off to the next one down the road.

Interesting spot. Constructors wouldnt get away with leaving a site like this today! (maybe DOC are preserving as an example of a dump site!!!)

Just having a quick check of where we were before starting tree trunk gorge track, when we realised we were right on top of a cache. Swapped a pet rock - a snake, for a toucan fridge magnet
Drove the camper right to a few metres from cache. SL left pack of balloons. TFTC
Found as part of my three week caching trip from Wellington to Auckland - # 448. Thanks.
It is interesting what takes your fancy. Contrary to the previous log I loved this spot and all the rusty old junk. Amazing what you find out in the middle of the bush. Thanks.
Probably not one of our most spectacular caches on this trip but found it anyway. Thanks.
The Freezer Mice strike again!!!
Back down this way for the weekend, so managed to find a bit of spare time to knock over a few cache's.

This was a fun place for a boy to explore. Grandad worked on a big power scheme at Lake Manapouri a long time ago. Thank you.
Had fun here trying to identify the previous lives of some of the rusted junk. Worked on Manapouri Scheme 1965/66, some similarities. Thanks.
(173) Found cache quickly also remnants of hunting nearby.

Wanted to drive up the road but wind falls made it impassable. Still walk was pleasant. 8th today. - Geocoin TFTC
Snow had bent a few branches down over the road but otherwise quite passable in the family wagon. Interesting place but a shame to think this junk wil be lying round in the bush for years to come. TNLNSL T4TC
Just with edvern again, but we caught the rest of the team up before the next cache.
Very interesting spot, wouldn't have picked it for what it is.

Found with the company of sp8sm8 - certainly a clearing with a difference - thanks for leading us to this spot.
When we're told by a reviewer not to saturate an area with caches, we think its time to pull the plug. All our caches will now be removed.
Enjoyed the drive to this one, walked the last few hundred meters, stopped for cakes and beer here, oh so peaceful!!
Cheers

A mess yes, but a certain remote attraction. Enjoyed the fleeting visit to this "industrial archaeological" site. No swaps, TFTC!
Whoa they made a mess didn't they. This area won't recover for a long time. More interesting history though and a nice hidey hole. Cache really dry! TFTC
No locked gate today. This was a drive up, do the business, and attend to formalities experience.
I've an old mate who was a tunneller on this job, unsurprisingly he's known as 'Hard Rock'. Lots of his old rubbish lying around here!
Cache found as expected and described. Thank you. All in order and rehidden as found.
TNLNSL - and found with tean cacher Sweet P too.

Drove to within ~200m of the cache, a locked gate barred entry to the tailings site. Bumped into a hunter on his way out when we were heading towards the cache. We had more luck with the find, than he did with the deer. Traded a few stories before parting.

Found in drizzly rain - easy enough. Gate no problem, managed to turn OK. Interesting history. No swaps, thanks and cheers from Grandalf(1002)
Good find on a nice day. Note that a gate has been put in at the entrance and parking and turning around may be a problem for vehicles with low ground clearance.
Interesting spot.
In: army man, $1 1975 geothermal power stamp
Out: $2 coin.
Thanks,
Chris & Vera

Mak and friend were out of car like a shot after Ra read the clue aloud. Mak found it in an instant much to the dismay of Ra. Still not organised for doing caches so left $2 as swap for toy soldier. Ra happy to have another soldier.
The fourth of five for the day.
Here we are about 8kms from the Desert Road in the middle of nowhere enjoying the solitude and we got muggled!! I ask you!

2.50pm. Thank you for bringing us to the end of this road. We had great views of the mountains from here too. Thank you David & Noeline
Found with little difficulty. Interesting twist to the eco-hydro power stations scheme ideology... Hmmm. Thanks for showing us the "quarry"!!
Interesting spot. Nearly muggled by a camper-van coming in for a look, had to wander around for a while until they left. It certainly looks as if anything of use or value had been taken from the site. Saw the same paddlers I saw at another dam cache getting out of the river below the dump.
Thanks

16:02 Reading the logs, I approached this with some trepidation. Glad to see it can be driven right up to in a standard car - or at least an X3. Beemer Power seems to have done all right here twice recently. Two wheels good - four wheels better (misquote George Orwell).
Another fine cache by PaP. Uplifted the Stop Thief geocoin. A beautiful day for a breakout and it made a nice change from my usual finds at dusk or after dark of caches in this area. TNLNSL.

Oooh 3 P&P caches in a row.. I am glad you guys have been busy.. always a treat..
Turned down correct road and tailed a few mountain bike riders hurtling down said hill..!!! sounded horn and made them move over.. lol..
Turned right down the bottom.. aarrgghhh!! more gravel.. oh well.. always fun and Xena doesn't mind.
Got really close.. parked the princess and told TK to "STAY".. I like to find a couple in one day!!! lol..
Easy find.. nice placement.
TK signed the log.. dropped in a coin and left cards..

Heading back to Turangi with XenaCommander via a few caches...Third P&P cache for the day.
We passed a group of mountain bikers on the way... clearly they were not expecting traffic as they were spread across the road. As we turned into the side road XC says oh no not more 4wd track... Xena can go anywhere so we bumped along and arrived at GZ easily
Crikey... this tailing gravel looks familiar... awfully like the repairs on the Tukino road.. sharp, fist sized chunks.
XC bagged the cache quickly... he is on top form today despite commanding TK to "STAY" as it was his turn to find.... such a fun game to play with XC
In Geocoin... Stop thief get your own coin (I did this time) Nil out.
Now back to the Whare in Turangi for a bite, a wee rest and some more local caches.
Thanks for all the fun P&P

Rather interesting place. Looks like it is being "re-mined" to extract the gravel for roading. Quick find, many thanks.
Stopped at the bridge over the gorge on the way in and got a huge suprise at the spectacular drop below into the river - well worth a look!
Interesting to read RadioNuts log about this place being home to the tunnellers.
Thanks

We had planned this trip a few weeks ago, and so we are delighted to see all the new caches pop up.... and in areas that have memories for us.
So many outer layers on this one... well protected. Left TB Coca Cola USA.
Thanks

Another flash from the past - I recall in the construction days there was a “Little Italy†town around here, where the tunnelers lived – a really isolated, cold spot, inhabited by a very happy friendly bunch. No sign of where they were at all now of course.
Thanks for bringing us back Punga and Paua.

OK... we left it for 2 weeks in the hope that someone else would get the FTF...dont want to hog them all....
No one got it so we decide to go out and find it.... easy find...
