Thanks for a little bit of history. So interesting to know that oil was discovered here. 6 people in our group.
We found this one very interesting. Thanks for bringing us here. Amazing the history you learn geocaching.
We had a great visit with 6 of us on the back roads back to Lake Tyer where we are camping behind the pub.Answers have been sent.We are bdp, kiwisteve2, drobbonz and kimmy533. Tftc
Travelling around NSW and Victoria on a 5 day trip with my son who is practicing driving a camper trailer on his P's. I decided to give him some rest breaks by stopping to do a few Earthcaches along the way. This Earthcache was pleasure to visit as I havent travelled through the area for over 25 years. A nice detour on the way back to the highway, and a good lesson learnt. Thanks for the Earthcache
We are visiting Lake Entrance and while here grabbing some caching also. The area is lovely, except the weather has been a bit chilly and windyThis is a nice Earth cache.TFTEc
The planets aligned, the radar was clear and I had itchy feet. I left home base in the mountains to see the sea and seek a few caches and complete a few missions at Lakes - glad I ventured here as this EC was quite a surprise. TFTC, the info and the FUN. A FAVE for the lure!
I have sent the answers. A nice little picnic area. The water crossing apparently had been flooded, but today there was only a little shallow water to cross. I also picked up three moveable GA caches while here too. TFTC GeoGeckoEd.
We interestingly enough visited this site in November 2020, during COVID when we were lucky enough to do so.We have the photo to prove it to ourselves. We either found a cache here or did the earth cache and forgot to log it at the time. However, we enjoyed both visits. This is a lovely earth cache, which is actually down to earth, (Pardon the pun)! So, we could easily get a grasp on it.We have sent our answers to the CO and are still waiting for verification and as its Blue Switch Day we are are posting our log with the obligatory team photo at the earth cache location. We certainly did learn quite a bit about this topic. One thing we definitely will not forget is that this was the first site in Australia where oil was found!TFTC
#19758 - 3:26:00 PM; Day thirteen of a road trip with the geohoney, taking the long way inland to Adelaide from the National Capital and back again via the coast. Made it to Melbourne last night and got a great deal on a hotel near the MCG. Grabbed a nearby cache before heading east along the Princes Highway. Made it all the way to Lakes Entrance and decided I had to check out this interesting looking cache. I wasn't disappointed and learned a couple of things as well! Gathered the information needed and answers have been sent to the CO to get the OK. TFTC GeoGeckoEd
Cache # 11242 on 25 Apr 2024Decided to take advantage of the ANZAC day holiday and make a long weekend of it - added a road trip with Bobl27 to the mix and all is set for a fun few days. We are travelling from home in the ACT to Victoria via Cooma and then doing a relaxed loop to Melbourne picking up a few caches and counties along the way. And then straight up the Hume home! No tricky DTs or long walks this trip. This cache: a little detour to pick up an earthcache! Answers sent to the CO and photo attached! Interesting to know oil was a thing here! Thank you GeoGeckoEd for the cache and the fun!
Pretty amazing to think this was the dust spot they detected oil and so late in the game. Found on the Mega Capital Geobash coastal loop via Adelaide - Barrington - coast to Mexico City loop. A lot of caches and white line fever was sweated out. Thanks GeoGeckoEd and clear skies from TeamAstro. Cache the planet! Some logs signed as TAD as teamed up with Tenkae and Deanside for additional fun. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Visited it during 28-days geotrip to Australia, N.Caledonia, Vanuatu, Fiji, Am.Samoa, Fr.Polynesia with Marci, Ch. Sometimes we logged as "MT" or "Jonea" or "MTCh". Thanks for showing nice caches and places. MT-Jonea from Brno city in Czechia EU. FP
On a road trip to attend Capital Geobash Mega and see many different sights along the way. Today we had a big day walking and taking in some lovely areas. A detour here found us at this unique spot. TFTEC. Sone interesting information about drilling for oil in the area. Thanks for bringing me here and learning some more information of the Lakes Entrance area. Im visiting from the Hunter Valley in NSW.
Amazing that this was the site of the first oil find in Australia . We stopped here on the way up to Sydney after getting Melbourne's first cache. TFTC
Answers sent to CO. frmen1 and I were out driving when this EC caught our eye. What a fabulous spot to highlight. Learnt something which is one reason we geocache. TFTC
Stopped by here on our family vacation to Lakes Entrance. I had no idea that the oil/gas industries in Australia began here - and just 10 months short of its centenary of discovery!!I love learning new things and this was a cracker. Heymissjo and I tried to share this important part of Australian and Victorian history with our 4 Minis (Ge0Bug, Ge0_Ninja, Dallas and the Dark Minion), but they were rather nonplussed by it all. Still it was a nice shady spot for a bite of lunch. Thanks for bringing us here.
For the cache. Found it with Heymissjo,The Welder and Ge0_Ninja.Ps. Heymissjo submitted my answers

What an interesting place for a cache. Thank you for pointing out something that we might have otherwise driven past.

What a funny little out of the way spot I had no idea about! Thanks for the bit of history..doesn't sound like it was a terribly productive oil well but it was the first! Sent answers through and photo attached. Just me here today.
CaptainVimes and I are on a driving holiday from Melbourne to Canberra this week. I was surprised to arrive at a pretty little park here. It was interesting reading about the geology. Thanks for the earthcache GeoGeckoEd
We have logged this in anticipation of approval, as we like to log our finds in order of find
We have added a photo which includes a small wombat, this is Grumbli - the wombat is our caching avatar. He is climbing the structure, When a Geo photo is required Grumbli steps up as he is not camera shy

Wow, who knew this was the site of first oil rig in Aus. Thanks so much for bringing us here and for the interesting lesson.
A short detour on the way to Lakes Entrance. An interesting location that not many peeps will see as it's well out of the way. Chance for a stretch before the final part of the drive.

We found this cache while on a road trip to Tasmania and our route was taking in this part of the country. I love it how Geocaching takes you to out of the way interesting places and this was a good example of that. At GZ we gathered the information for the questions and have sent them to the CO.
We’re giving this a FP because we thought it was a cool spot to visit and a great bit of history.

Day 3 of the Bring In The New Year (BITNY) road-trip. Today we packed up camp at Woods Point and headed back west towards Bairnsdale via Nowa Nowa and Lakes Entrance to name a few. Today I will hopefully travel through my last UBD map and tick off another LGA on my list.
This was an interesting earth cache of a different kind that I enjoyed and served as a good spot for lunch. The sign at GZ although in good shape, has lost most of the rivets holding it in place and is sure to fall down at any moment with a strong gust of wind.

I had an early morning visit here today whilst holidaying in Lakes Entrance. Photo taken and answers to questions to be submitted upon return. Thanks for this cache as I would never have visited here otherwise.
Lovely spot too.
Trip log: I have had a trip in mind for a while now, a 'Victoria loop' which would see a number of counties travelled through but also visit the last active Web Cam left for me in Australia and a 2000 cache which would see my Ausmer complete! A trip would not be complete without some company so a little convincing and a suitable friend was talked into coming along... and for good measure they would drive and keep me from getting myself into too much trouble while at it!
Counties featured high on my list, but each one filled with quality... oldies, larges, and types that where sought. As is the way the list led to a varied and interesting trip with some very amazing locations discovered along the way.
Day one saw a lot of distance travelled but just four caches found for the day, all quality and after a trip up Mt Buller late in the day we settled into the finest lodgings Mansfield had left.
Day two started well and the highlight among many was GC7A with my Ausmer complete but a great cache location and the gate installed for easy access was a hit. Our journey took us onto a number of locations and through the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. It was here with the light drizzle that settled into solid rain that I was thankful of my driver who calmly followed my directions despite the conditions as I juggled caches on my list to replace the walks the rain and the 13 degrees weather had made too uncomfortable. Ending the day cold and wet in Dandenong the accommodation made up for the previous nights and the local pizza sure did hit the spot.
Day three saw a return to lovely weather with us driving the guard rail hwy... endless guardrails on all roads. Frankie the Gnome wasn't on the list but too hard to miss as we passed! Down to Mornington Peninsula and through some interesting locations towards Lakes entrance and stopped in Bairnsdale overnight.
Day four and after a little local caching around the 'lakes' area on another lovely day, it was the long haul up towards Eden. The 2020 fires devastation was enormous as we drove through the endless winding road with all the fluffy looking regrowth. Crazy to think back to that time and see how nuts it all was. Another full day but made it safe and sound back home again.
Many thanks to all the CO's for your caches that led us on an enjoyable journey through some interesting locations with great places visited along the way..

We enjoyed our trip around the Lakes Entrance visiting lakes, inlets, beaches, old mines and lots of other wonders. We passed this old well as we were returning to Lakes Entrance after our wanderings. Who would have believed that such an innocuous looking old well was representative of such significant history in Victoria. I’m glad it hasn’t been removed, but given a place in history. Thanks for bringing us here and the lesson about the site.

A big part of the planning for this trip involved leafotwind getting his tally of logged Earthcaches to triple figures.
This was his second on our journey, and my first (having already visited its sibling on the other side of town on a previous foray), made all the more fun for collecting information by torchlight.
GSA GeoEducation, thanks for an informative stop. Now we need to press on... still quite a drive ahead of us.

You have to love geocaching don't you? This was definitely somewhere I would never have visited but for there being an EC placed here and an old EC at that. I gained further knowledge about the area and it's role in supplying energy. Thanks for the informative EC.
A road trip east instead of west! nirgalagrin and I had been planning a trip out over to Mt. Gambier but given the forecast of rain, rain and more rain all through the weekend we scrambled to replan the trip aiming for the other side of the state. As it happened we went a little further than just the border and explored the NSW south-eastern coast. Thanks to all the cache owners for placing and maintaining the caches found along the way.

I had finished work in Lakes Entrance and had some time-in-lieu owed to me, so I decided to chip away at it by doing a little opportunistic geocaching. This was one of my chosen geocaches in the area and I happily let Google Maps talk me through the backroads to it. A pleasant little reserve to park in, a cool structure and a happy geocacher was I. The answers have been submitted and I'm logging in anticipation of the go-ahead from the CO. TFTC GSA GeoEducation!
