Find #819Well 11 years after finding the ants and Gnomes I returned here to hunt the hunters! Not sure why I hadn't found this last time, maybe the gnomes made me too crazy. Well it sure is a beautiful spot, had a sit and a bite to eat before I continued with the eastern side Gnome hunters. Cache is in excellent condition.10 finds today, 8 mystery and 2 traditionals, 0 DNFs for once. Thanks Lyn Pat and Nathan for the cache

Today is the third day of our extra long weekend for Taurus Six and I . We are staying in the Serpentine / Jarrahdale area . Wow there were some big storms and lots of rain here over night . So we did not know what to expect first thing , would it be rainy all day , would everywhere be water logged. However we were very pleasantly surprised that for the most part it was sunny and pleasant with just the odd shower or two throughout the day . Yes there had been lots of rain over night but this made the Serpentine Waterfall even more spectacular and the bush even more fresh and alive . We are glad we had saved the falls walk and the Baldwins Bluff walk in the Serpentine National Park until today, it was perfect for it. All in all a good day hiking and exploring and 12 geocaches to our name as well. This was our sixth cache find of the day along with a nearby Adventure Lab element . We undertook The Baldwin Bluff Trail from the Serpentine Waterfall Car Park , it was a fabulous trail and certainly a heart starter to get up on to the ridge , we loved it though and so glad we came this way . Wow this vista was worth the hike and the extension out to the edge of the plateau . The views from up here are unreal and certainly this get a favourite point from us . After admiring the views we set about trying to find the cache and we were very happy to soon have cache in hand . Thanks for the cache find .

TFTC, amazing location. The cache container was out in the open so I've hidden and disguised it again.

Thank team Ten Bucks for replacing the cache for us. We will pay it forward of course.Wow. $15 to enter the park. You can walk in for free but I'm not sure where you can park just outside the entrance. We know you can come in by foot on a road just south of the main entrance road. There is a fire access track. It's about a one km walk but I think you can get some of the ant caches then too.

We saw a request from the cache owner for a replacement container for this one, and knowing who the cache owner is we thought they deserved a hand. It is quite a hike from the Serpentine Falls Park to GZ and park fees are now $15 for anyone wondering. Nice new cache container of the same size and a new log with pen now replacing the old- we threw in a few cool trinkets as well, and all the existing the old ones. It's ready to go!

Found it and loved the view. Cache was completely flooded though.

28-Aug-23
If someone is heading up to find the cache and happen to have a replacement container we were be very appreciative.
22 years and the weather has finally broken the lid.
Any container is suitable no need to spend money on one.
Medical vitamin containers are perfect 300ml or bigger.
Thanks in advance.

Find 7 of 9 on a pleasant hike in Gnome country. We had a special guest today - our son on the occasion of his 20th birthday. The caches were a bonus on top of our walk down to the falls from Scrivener Road, then back up to Baldwin's Bluff.

A wow cache! Just ticked over 22 years of hiding out at this awesome viewpoint which is probably not often visited due to the private property sign just behind the huge rock cairn, although my route to the cache missed that altogether and I just had a short fence to hop over. Sadly the container's lid is cracked and water has got in to everything. Dried it all out as much as possible. The logbook is still usable and takes a pen nicely. Nice to see it's original or almost original. Some essays from the early 2000's in there. Took a moment to find the right hidey hole even with the spoiler. Called Mrs O and our son down to share the view with me as it's such a good one - the falls to the east, flowing nicely, then the CBD all the way in the distance to the north and out to sea as well! They took me back a different way to the main viewpoint which revealed the signage, oops.

Awarding a nailed-on favourite for placing and maintaining this cache. We think it's the 7th placed in WA and goes into our top 20 oldest finds.

TFTC LPN and Peter!

Happy to spot this old guy quickly, which was what brought me to this park on the way from Albany to Perth. Surprised to see the original log. The container could use a new lid for sure, but the log and contents were dry. TFTC!

Out for a Sunday picnic with the grandkids and after the walk to the falls then a barbecue lunch we walked it off by heading up to one of Perth's old caches at the lookout. We also picked up a few ant trail ones on the way.
It was quite a climb up the path from the carpark but the kids handled it well. At the top we had a drink and a snack while admiring the view before setting off to find the cache.
After about 5 minutes of searching the youngest one of the group, miss 8yo, made the find.

A big day of gnomes and ants! I had to find this cache to fulfil a month hidden. I had been here once before though I was muggles and didn’t get the chance to really look.

Today, I made it here and was happy to find it. It took a bit of searching. I grabbed one of the two TBs.

TFTC Lyn Pat and Nathan. A favourite point added for having such an old cache with beautiful vistas.

From time to time I have looked longingly over this part of the map but after reading some of the logs of previous cachers, I hadn't quite been game enough to head out here solo. So you can imagine my delight when Axell33 suggested that Rexxy17 and I come along on a trip to Gnome territory to tackle the Ant series of caches and possibly some gnome caches too.

After successfully completing the nearby Gnome fun multi we made our way to the start of the Serpentine Ant Trail. With Axell33's previous knowledge of the area, and taking turns navigating; we managed to complete this series and knock off a few of the more difficult Gnomehunter caches... not without our fair share of trips, scratches, and prickle bush face slaps..

Spirits were high though and a thoroughly enjoyable day was had.

This was by far my favourite cache of the day. The views from here are spectacular and I was taken as soon as we crossed the fence and the terrain began to change almost inviting us out to the breathtaking scenery. The fields were so green and the falls in the distance - just beautiful!

After taking a few photos, we sat and chatted and rested our weary legs. I could have spent all day here but eventually we had to continue on our caching adventure.

Thanks so much for placing a cache here Lyn Pat and Nathan. A definite favourite point here.
Took 1x TB

After spending the last hour and a bit slogging our way through some really thick scrub and bush walking along the path to this cache was great. An absolutely brilliant view from the cache and fills a needed month on my calendar. A favourite coming your way.
__________

The call came through from Mr Fratra last week to see if I was available to head back out to Gnome Territory and complete the western section of the caches out here. After a bit of back and forth we found that today was a good day for both of us and organised to meet nice and early to beat the heat.

When we met up at the designated meeting point we looked at the map and decided on a rough sequence to head to all the caches. Lots of heavy scrub meant some of the going was a little slow and the walking along the path for some of the ANT caches seemed luxurious.

In the end we were out for 5 ½ hours and collected all 18 caches that we went for before retiring for lunch at the Byford.
__________

Thanks Lyn Pat and Nathan for placing this cache for me to find, this is find number 1973 for me.

Thank you for placing this cache here.

We have had this one on our radar for a long time. We made our way up the track grabbing the Serpentine Ant Trail series on the way up which made the walk pleasant (except for the vicious ants !). The walk up was totally worth it with a spectacular view of the falls and green farmland. TFTH!

A little late to the party, but today was the day I decided to tackle the Ant Trail and Gnomes series at Serpentine. The Ant Trail certainly lived up to its name, the track was crawling with the little biters from start to finish. This one made for a nice little deviation after completing the Ant Trail series and the view was certainly worth the extra walk. Container found in good condition. TFTC Lyn Pat and Nathan

Today we completed the last leg of the civilisation tribe series all bar one pesky DNF, which we really enjoyed! Love the thought that goes into these caches, and the bush serenity helps aswell. We completed the tribes series early and then made our way to ant and gnome land.

We started well enough completing the ants series whilst collecting some of the various gnome hunter caches aswel which was a bit of a bush bash even straight from the path. We finished up grabbing the serpentine vista LPN cache at the very end, a nice touch to grab a 2001 cache. After grabbing the final on the way back to the parking waypoint we decended into hell.

Not having Read the cache listing we decided on a way to best approach the series using some satellite maps and some gut feeling. Don't do this. Read the listing. (After all steve usually prepares enough and reads about trails prior to completing)
What eventuated was hours of hard slog. Up and down, under and over and for the most part through. Through thick bush that two big blokes at times punched, kicked and generally bush bashed our way through.

Apparently We did the gnomes backwards . With some slight deviations going straight line caching from cache to cache. Again, not recommended. Read the cache page. Either way it won't be easy!!

About 5 hours of misery, mud, thick bushes, scratches. The last 100m to the path was bad, very bad. We didn't follow the directions. It was so bad Steve was tempted to walk in the creek to get back to the track. The last 300m to get back to the track took nearly an hour.

Safe to say we didn't get all the gnome hunter caches, but did manage to get the guardian gnome cache.

Being suckers for punishment we decided to go and grab a couple of others on the way home as there was no way we were grabbing the remaining gnome hunter caches an a couple of APs. They will have to wait.

We picked he perfect day for it. Max of 16 degrees, good weather and good company helped us amass nearly 50 finds for the day, including several caches that hadn't been found for up to 15 months!

I'm sure firnsy is probably sitting back in NZ having a chuckle at this log. On a side note we did replace some damanged containers, added log sheets to help the maintainer.

It would leave a big hole in any WA Cachers CV ti have not completed the gnomes.

Won't be back this way until next winter as reptiles will be back out soon. Thanks for the memories.

Hatched a plan with Granett to come out and grab the last of the Gnomes. It's been a fair while since we were out here, with good reason too!

This one has been on my to do list for a long time. Finally made plans to get out and grab this and others in the area. An amazing view.

Well it's taken 2½ years but KrabiBoy and I were back today to clean up the rest of the Gnome Hunters and cross off the Ant Trail series. After about 4½ hours with a few slips and slides here & there our mission was complete.

Had my eye on this one for a while and glad to finally have the chance to drop by today. Very glad to get a smiley on an older hide and great views to boot.

Lyn Pat and Nathan I found your cache at 10:15am, this was the 13th of 22 finds for me today and brings my total find count to 4018. The cache was in good order and I replaced it as found.

Found with axell33 and the geohound. I think we snuck up behind this one. After the ant trail and some gnome hunters tributes we couldn't leave this one out. What a great place and an amazing view! Can't imagine coming here if it wasn't for caching. Thank you for this cache.

03-Mar-17
Today my goal was to get the very old Peters serpentine vista cache from 2001. Google maps does not give much credit when it comes to altitude so as I was driving down the Falls road, I realised that this cache was going to be a lot harder than a quick 400 meter dash from the road.
In 35 degree heat there was no way I was going up that mountain so I drove up another way and parked near Ant trail 1 and realised there was a trail by OOH YEH.
Well this was even better, a relatively flat terrain and 7 extra caches. The 3km walk was pretty tough in the heat but I had enough water and the caches were all easy, thank god.

The old cache was found rather quickly and contents were dry. The log book was a little too dry since the pages are starting to crumble slightly and may need rescuing.
Favvo for very old cache.

We were very keen to collect a few older caches while in Perth. As we were out this way today, this cache was definitely on the list. A lovely walk along the well-maintained trail and we even managed to pick up a few extra caches along the way. Stunning views from both the lookout and at GZ. Still a classic cache, 16 years later! We came in from the top after completing the Ant trail series. It was a more relaxing walk than the one from the bottom car park. Had to hunt around for the cache as the coordinated seemed a little out, Ground zero appeared to be 12m away out in the open. But that said the cache was easily located once we widened the search area, at down and had a bite to eat before continuing our journey with the Gnome Hunter series of caches. Nice to come across one of the old original caches.

Having enjoyed the walk as far as the Ant Trail 6, and not being too tired yet, I decided to walk on. Megawat60 followed me, and he ended up making the find. A great spot and well worth the extra distance and the rock-clambering.
TFTC Lyn Pat Nathan, a fave from me as well!

After the completion of the Ant Trail and enjoying the spectacular views, this one was not that much further on, so off we set, she quite a way in front as I spent some time getting some panorama's with my phone!

Isn't it a weird world we live in now, as on arrival at close to GZ she is sending a photo to her sister in the States, the wonders of modern technology, that was not even a dream when this cache was placed. Smile

Thanks and worth a fav Lyn Pat and Nathan.

So happy this cache is where it is. After we had completed the Ant Trail series we just had to go that extra length to get this one. Wowzers what a view!!! I could walk this trail again just to see that (and such an easy trail to walk too). I dropped a pathtag in the cache "who have you crossed paths with" tag:) TFTC and the awesome view Lyn Pat & Nathan Very Happy

After just completing the first six in the Ant Series we could not come so far and not have a look for this one. Well worth the extra hike up the hill....what a view. After a few pics we began our search, almost thought I was caching with mum after several warnings from AutumnOwl to be careful near the edge, we located the cache, it was a little damp inside but in good condition. I've been eying off the caches in this area for quite some time but just haven;t got around to doing them. I had everything planned and ready to go last weekend but then something came up and I had to delay until today. I targeted the Serpentine Gnome, Gnome Hunter, Serpentine Ant Trail plus a few others. In the planning stage for the caches I wasn't looking forward to doing two loops to first pick up the Gnomes caches and then go back to pick up the Gnome Hunter caches so had a go at cracking the gnome code - and succeeded. This enabled me to plan a route that looked to minimise the distance whilst avoiding going up and down hill too many times. On paper the route I came up with was just over 10km. I started just before 7am and starting at the wrong caches for my route so I did a bit of backtracking to get everything back on course. I ended up getting back to the car about six hours later. It was then that I found that I'd lost the details required to find the Guardian Gnome so I set off again to redo the 6 Gnome caches and recollect the required info. The bonus to redoing these caches was that the views which had been shrouded in cloud earlier were now visible and there were some great views to be had. Finally another hour later I had the Guardian Gnome in hand. In the end the 10km planned route ended up being close to 18km on the ground.
This was one of the other caches i did whilst in the area. A fantastic view from GZ. TFTC.

A lovely day spent at Serpentine Falls. The objective was to go and get a Jasmer at 'Peters Serpentine Vista' (July 2001) so we followed the 'Baldwin Trail' and then realised we had gone almost all the way to the start of the 'Serpentine Ant Trail', so we decided to do #2 to #6 of the series, collecting the clues on the way. After achieving our objective of collecting the Jasmer, we returned down to the car park for a lovely picnic. Here we decided to drive around and complete the 'Serpentine Ant Trail', including the bonus. A great adventure so thanks for the cache and bringing us to this lovely location. Fav point awarded.

A beautiful day sandwiched between rainy days and we couldn't pass up the opportunity for a couple of hours caching and a walk in the bush. The Ant Trail looked like an ideal walk and we could check out the terrain for the other series in the area.
We had a great walk, grabbed a number of caches and ended up at the edge of the scarp at Peter's Vista with a magnificent overlook of the coastal plain. Sat a while and enjoyed the sun and the view before making our way back to find the Ant Final. We met a number of muggle walkers along the track but none of them seem to progressed to this overlook, for which we were thankful. Just another one of those special spots geocaching has taken us to Big Grin. Thanks to firnsy for the ants and Lyn, Pat and Nathan for the view Smile.

We have had this one on the to do list for some time, mainly because it is a 2001 cache, but also because the logs indicated that the views from the cache were well worth the hike. And we agree Smile - a great spot. Took a little bit to find the cache, but Mrs K prevailed in the end. The outer bag is past its use by date, but the container and internals are in good condition. Left a couple of tags for the next visitor.

Thanks for keeping this older cache alive Lyn Pat and Nathan [^].
