Out for a stroll on Narrabundah Hill picking up some caches along the way This was the last on the list but just didn’t have any luck..we had an idea what we were looking for and will be back to find!

In these coronavirus times, the activity of geocaching seems to fit the bill, providing ample fresh air and exercise opportunities. Today, I sought a few caches that I had previously missed while doing the five trigs walk around Weston Creek with my son. I had a good idea what I was looking for with this cache, but it was still elusive. Oh well, maybe next time.

Nearly ready to give up on this one haha. Thanks for the Cache

This is a great walk and a fabulous cache..favourite of the day..cockatoos haven't discovered it yet!

25-May-19
Found on Saturday afternoon. I had figured out what to look for, but still had to circle the tree a few times before I found it! l was on the point of climbing the tree when I spotted it, so I was at least spared an unnecessary scramble...

Thanks for the cache!

I was originally planning to go caching along the Murrumbidgee today, it my GPS wasn't, so I had to come up with a new walk somewhere in phone coverage area. Never wandered on this hill, so it was an excellent opportunity.

After a lengthy search we were almost ready to concede defeat. We found it! Tricky find tftc

17-Nov-18
This one was tough! We read the logs, got some apparently conflicting messages, looked for different kinds of caches long after the geokids got bored of looking & started their own games. We found heaps of critters, including scorpions, spiders & centipedes - but no cache. Until at long last, a cry of triumph from 12fieldtrip. She had the elusive cache in hand! It was a little off the co-ords, but we had it. Great cache, great hide & a nice sense of achievement. TFTC!

**This Cache:**

This cache has been haunting me for over a year now. I DNF'd it back in June 2017 after a 20 minute solo search, and was slightly confused about the terrain rating and where to look. I must have JUST missed it by the smallest margian, as it was hidden exactly how I expected it to be, and the coordinates are pretty spot on. Just got unlucky and didn't turn the right stone that day!

Today however I was back, and this time armed with the help of a previous finder! He had a fairly decent knowledge of where it was hidden, so today it was found within minutes. Not exactly in the same spot he found it though but the general vicinity!

Phew, glad to finally tick this off, was a sad looking face in a sea of smileys for a long time!

*see brief outline of entire day below*

---

**The Day**

Two events on the same day on a weekday! I'm sure I can count the number of events I have attended on weekdays on one hand, so to have two of them on the same day was a treat! Made plans with DSD who also had a day off work, and decided to make an entire day out of it, caching for three hours before the first event, and then a further 6 and a half hours between the two!

Was an extremely productive day, picking up **5 FTF's**, **7 Puzzles** , **3 Multi's**, **2 Events**, **Unloved Years**, **A Dozen Pathtags between us** and Traditionals inbetween!

Thanks to all the CO's and everyone who we met up with today!

24-Jul-18
Fairly certain I know what the cache type is, but had no success despite a long, long look.

15-Jul-18
Seems it's about 5 years since I last tried to find this one, so it seemed about time to give it another shot! This time I found it in about 2 minutes flat - the container was pretty much exactly what I'd thought, but was a little further from the trunk than I'd expected.

TNLN - Thanks McPhan!

The geowife wanted to bring the whole fmaily out to do a caching bushwalk, which means she wants to find 4-5 and have a picnic somewhere.... the geokids have no stamina to do 20-30!!! So I looked at the map for an appropriate small series to do and this leapt out at me. I had completed more than half of these as well as the puzzles some time ago so it was just one loop to do... happy days.

So we arrived at the stile in the corner only to find it absolutely chock full of cows. Serious, they were right up against the stile and there was clearly no way through, so we had to drive down to the next one and go up the dirt path towards the trig directly.

On the way out the cows had moved so they were now stradling the path we came up from, but thankfully they left a 'lane' that was just wide enough for us to get through. The geokids were a mixture of fascinated and scared while threading the needle.

Thanks for placing these caches and allowing us to have a nice little walk!

17-Jun-18
Was a freezing cold miserable day so why not go get some caches? Rugged up in our snow gear we headed out with HAM228 for a nice walk. Been meaning to get some caches in this area for a while and it was good fun even though it was cold. This cache had a puzzled for a few mins however after a bit of thought realized what we were looking for and made the find! Very cool and a favourite point from us! Tftc

20-Apr-18
After a long day at work I've decided to go for a decent walk. It's a lovely day out and this series seems like a great idea. Goto grab the last remaining warmth before winter sets in.

I thought I knew what this cache was but on exam action nothing stood out. Ok climb it then. Ah there's a dream catcher but nothing is attached. Now what do I do? After consulting my bf I took another turn around the pine and there it was. What I initially expected.

The cache was found and in good condition.

We went to the Ozmega in Morisset and are now touring to see the family in Canberra and to come in Sydney. We don't do many caches a day so we didm't think we would achieve the 500 points for the Official Space Explorer souvenir. However we were closer than we thought at 375 points, so we decided to search for some caches with over 10 favourites as these gave us 15 points for planetary pursuit. Austpark set off with 9 caches to achieve while I stayed with the family and came back with 7 before time stopped his chase. Sorry for the using the same log for all these caches. They were all fantastic and Austpark enjoyed his hunt.

So happy to have this one ticked off my found list finally. I knew what I was looking for the first time I was here, but it was missing then. All good now though! Thanks for the maintenance and Tftc!!!

12-Nov-17
Up and over from the previous NRL series find to log this on the way to the next. Have been up here to the trig many a time, especially during the winter months, but our first time yet to be out and about on a GC hunt... it was a beautiful spring morning, so why not. Me and Paris bear are pictured at the trig.
Good hint, I knew exactly? or so I thought %-) what to be searching for... the muggle hubby is far more lateral thinking than I.
TFTC, a favourite from me.

This is our fourth trip to the northern island this year. The first three were primarily for family events but with some opportunities to do some caching along the way. The fourth trip is different as caching is our focus. After getting off The Spirit of Tasmania we are heading north to cache at Wangaratta and then Yass before heading into the ACT and Queanbeyan for a week. After that we will travel to Jindabyne for a few days with summiting Mount Kosciuszko being our main target for this part of our trip. Then we will visit Cooma and Tumut before heading back down the track through Wangaratta and Mansfield as we make our way to Alexandra for the MEGA. After the weekend we will continue to make our way south and back onto the Spirit of Tasmania for the “drive” across Bass Strait. We are really looking forward to three weeks of intense caching in great areas and, hopefully, catching up with some geocachers in each of the areas we will visit.

Today was the last day in Canberra for this trip. We had planned to look for so many caches but we were running out of time. So today we concentrated on three trails (the NRL series on Narrabundah Hill, the AFL series just off Uriarra Road and the CPU series on O’Çonnor Ridge), some other caches that were in the same areas and a few other caches that we wanted to find during this trip. The trails were in contrasting areas. The AFL series was in undulating terrain but very open vegetation which made movement comparatively easy, especially as the majority of the caches were just off the fire trails. The vegetation Narrabundah Hill was much closer, but because of the placement of the caches, we found ourselves walking through bush areas quite often. The hard task on O’Connor Ridge was getting up onto the ridge, but once there the vegetation was quite open making movement between caches quite straightforward. It was quite a warm morning and early afternoon, with our stamina being tested as we walked the trails. The contrast was the mild thunderstorm and heavy rain that came around tea time.

We went cross country from the trig point towards this cache. The ground as we walked towards this cache was very uneven, apparently after being pugged by cattle when the ground was wet. Accurate coordinates, having seen this type of hide before and the hint led to a quick find of this cache. The cache and contents were in good condition. Thanks McPhan for the cache.

***** We are currently writing detailed logs because of a challenge provided by Project-GC. "The Author" Badge challenges geocachers to average one hundred words or more in each log. On 1 September 2017 our average was 86 which seems close to the 100 target. However given that we have found so many GC caches, we have to write many logs with well over 100 words for a long period of time to get our average to the target. Apologies to anyone who finds the logs tedious but it is the only way that we can strive to attain this challenge. After 253 caches (which includes all cache finds up and including yesterday), the average log length is just over 95.0. We are now entertaining the possibility that we might be able to achieve our gaol before this trip ends. Progress has been better than anticipated.*****

Was about to give up when I then found it. Definitely not what I was looking for (so made it tricker) as was looking for something fake. Tftc

Had a good look but couldn't find it

24-Sep-17
Have been meaning to return to find this cache since the previous one most likely ended up as a Cockies lunch given the huge numbers that where here last time. Smile Chose a more direct parking and path and a short enough and not to steep walk up. Passed a very large lizard on the way up, must be a few about, that's the fourth one I've seen today. Searched all about at GZ but no matter where or what could not come up with the cache. I had a very good idea of what to find but nothing. plenty of evidence of cows about and after looking a bit further afield found it laying out in the open. There was a location close by that looked very likely and the cache fitted perfectly so have left it there as it just seemed the right place. Thanks for the cache McPhan!

29-Aug-17
Missed finding this one a year ago when I was doing the rugby league series nearby. But with extra experience, I knew what I was looking for today and found it quite quickly. There were muggles nearby in the form of a mob of cattle but they did not bother me. In fact, they helped by discouraging the dog walkers. TFTC Cool

With BomEm on a Mtb and caching ride.
We really enjoyed the views up here.
We started to read the logs of the recent dnf's and thought we might be in trouble.
We searched for a bit and then i made the discovery.
Excellant container and awesome location.
Many thanks for the cache

Found with Lpud on a lazy Sunday caching ride. This is a lovely hide with some nice views. Gets a favourite from me. Tftc

06-Aug-17
Seems this was actually missing last time I looked - so no wonder I couldn't find it!
... I was out for a bushwalk at the Cotter, then we all came back near here for Coffee - so I decided to duck up here on my way home, and turn a sad face into a smiley
TFTC - Not too hard to find today Smile
I then decided to find a couple other odd caches down this end of town - a multi I had got the info for the day before, and another multi as well - because I figure I really ought to find a few more of those, instead of just the quick/easy ones - lol

The 4th time I have been here for this cache. Found tonight at about 2100 with some friends

22/22 Tonight

Arranged with FroggyCache and DarksideDan to raid this area.

This took a lot of time. We had an idea of what we were looking for. Dan eventually found them, we were.. amazed at the size of the cache..

TFTC McPhan - an interesting way to wrap up the night!

26-Jul-17
The last stop on a night caching expedition with Andrewbt and Darksidedan. Awesome views from the nearby trig, even (especially) at night.

We were a bit worried when DSD told us he'd been here before but unable to find it. We took heart that it had recently been maintained so should be in good order.
No cows thankfully.

Cache 2604 on 11/6/17

After the fog lifted at lunchtime, I decided to head out and enjoy an afternoon of caching by myself as my family were otherwise occupied at home. I have been meaning to grab the nearby series for ages, so this was the perfect time. Unless otherwise noted, the caches were all in good order and found easily.

Little diversion for this cache. Knew what I was looking for from the hints just took a few minutes to locate it! Nice blank log

Thanks McPhan for the cache!

11-Jun-17
Thanks!

02-Jun-17
Well this was slightly disappointing and embarrassing not to find this one today, it was my only DNF of the day and is now sticking out like a sore thumb in this nature reserve!

I spent about 15-20 minutes searching around GZ, but wasn't sure what altitude I should be searching, and there were so many places to look.

I knew exactly what I was looking for and what the cache is camoflagued with but that didn't seem to help at all either, I just must of missed it!

After about 15 minutes the nearby cows came closer and one of them didnt look very happy and started running at me, I almost crapped my pants and backed up and got the hell out of there! Sorry to the cows for being in their territory too long, they obviously wanted me to move on!

Oh well thanks anyway, I am sure the cache is still there I just missed it today as there is a large number of spots to look Sad

07-May-17
All back in place

07-May-17
Container, cover and logbook replaced. Not so obvious now as this tree now is growing the camouflage.

23-Apr-17
Time to check

22-Apr-17
No luck for us today after a good search. A lot of black cockatoos in the tree eating pine cones dropping bits down onto us while we looked around! In the end sat and ate lunch with some very friendly magpies. Offered to share lunch if they found us the cache but they don't bribe easily! Did a deal if they jumped on my foot could have a bit and trade was made! No cache for us today but loved the stunning views and enjoyed the lunch time company. Will be back!

22-Apr-17
Sat here for a while having lunch and searched everywhere. Climbed the tree, looked under rocks, even asked the local magpies who came to have (our) lunch with us. But even bribing one particularly friendly magpie - couldn't find it. Disappointed this was the only unfound cache in this area today.

22-Apr-17
When I placed this cache there were no stray objects around the tree. Now it looks like they're a staple diet of cockatoos so will need to rethink the hide for this cache.

26-Mar-17
Had a good search around and no sign of a cache. Could see an obvious spot for one. As per the previous logs I'm fairly confident this one is MIA.

03-Mar-17
I came up here on 2/3 and found 2 Turtle doves and 8 of the NRL caches ... got to this one just before midnight and looked and looked ... while also having a rather odd text message conversation with my Mum (who had just read an email I sent earlier and got a bit too worried about what I had told her, and then got she worried about the fact that I was out geocaching by myself at that hour of night - lol) ... looked high and low for ages and found nothing ...
I was back down this way the next afternoon, so I came back to have another look in daylight ... another long look and all I found was an empty "organic container" with a hole in it ... was thinking this meant it was missing, but now that I notice how many times this had been replaced - maybe this is an old container and there is a new one I missed ... but is well hidden if I did miss it - because I had a really long look ... (but I guess I could look forever and not find it if I didn't look in the place it actually was - lol)
Oh well - found the GCA cache on the way here, and 4 more NRL caches afterwards Smile

23-Dec-16
With a couple of spare hours after work and before dinner, I had fun on the mountain bike collecting the NRL series and a few others.

I guessed what the cache might consist of, but I couldn't find any trace. Maybe I'm just a conehead. Anyway, TFTC McPhan

06-Nov-16
Nice hide. However we found the vessle that carries the cache, but the actual cache itself is missing.

02-Oct-16
Loved the view on the way to this one!

24-Sep-16
It's a nice day, Lets go for a walk I said to TheStormMan. We decided to do the NRL trail and a few other caches along the way.

The only DNF for today.
Got to the top of the hill and looked for a long time but came up with nothing. We had ideas on what it may have been but as the size was other but still didn't come up with anything.

07-Jul-16
This cache could do with a little maintenance - the cache itself needs to be reattached to is container...

27-Jun-16
Found whilst completing the NRL series of caches in the dark! The first part of the hint wasn't that helpful to me, but the second part certainly had me looking in the right direction so to speak. Found the cache within moments, however it requires a little maintenance - obviously the previous finder found the same thing and replaced the cache very carefully, as did I after signing the log. Thanks, McPhan. Nice work Big Grin

27-Jun-16
Awesome find with geokids while doing other caches in the area. Great hide Smile Tftc

28-May-16
On a rainy Saturday morning cache run around Narrabundah Hill with The Woofer. She met her first horse, and we met more than our fair share of cow patties. A few annoying fences, but a nice easy walk otherwise, and some very fun cache ideas!

We had an idea of what to look for based on the hint (didn't read the spoiler below!!), but nothing was immediately apparent. On a sunnier day the silver glint might have revealed itself sooner, but it still only took us a few minutes before we had the cache in hand. A nice tricky hide, and a lovely location, thanks McPhan!

07-May-16
Found within 1min of looking. Don't usually find these one this quickly. DIDN'T use the hint in previous log. Found with The Matetrix and Charizard07 (informally signing logs a sMaze07 previous to registering officially)

23-Apr-16
Awesome find

18-Apr-16
Found this after climbing a tree, pulling up many rocks and pine needles and then finally finding the pinecone with the teeny weeny slot for the log to fit into. Log signed, log fitted into container (with a struggle) and pinecone restored to the right place (I think). This is one of the first caches Cheeky2005 and I have found without having to DNF it first try. TFTC McPhan.

25-Mar-16
A DNF partly because a huge spider freaked me out and had me heading out from under the pines after a bit of a look. Not really prepared for how hot and humid it was out here this afternoon too. I will have to come back when not alone so I can be sure the spider will not carry me off haha. TFTC and I will be back Smile

23-Jan-16
Wow! this one was tricky. Best one I have done so far and a good way to break into my 2nd '50'.

#5716 @1000
My goal for the day was the NRL series plus a few extras in the area. I biked around, so I was quite hot by time I got here. It took me a few minutes to search around - it was just as I expected from the hint, etc. Another Favourite. TFTC.

30-Dec-15
Bugger. Didn't get the hint and didn't find the cache. A nice place to visit. Frustrating on a hot day

25-Oct-15
Aaahh!! At last!! 25th October. This is the only calendar day on which I haven't found a cache between 1 August and 31 January. Time to fill it in. It's another really nice day, if a little warm. I've finished solving the 100 puzzle caches for the Hoop Stars series. It's about five in the arvo, cooling down, time to go. I,ve loaded a very light caching kit (GPS, pen, phone, pair of GeoSchnauzers) and now we're off walking on the old tracks my wife and I knew so well when there was a pine forest here.

Nice one, mate. You nearly lost the cache. (Well, I did). I found it, pulled it out, extracted the container, and then this ginormous spider leapt at me from inside the camo. I flung the spider and camo from me in an excellent exhibition of quick reflexes (this is my story, I'm sticking to it, some critical persons might mention panic.) Luckily, by then the cache was in my other hand. So no harm done.

Nice hide, it took me a while to find it.

06-Sep-15
F(H)ound it! 11:00am

With Lethal-porpoise and 3 dogs (again).
This time we are not so cold (or wet or hungry) and were a bit more persistent and it paid off.
LP searched on one plain and I on another and I found it after several minutes of systematic hunting.
My hair, clothes, glasses and hat are now covered in pine pollen (its pine spawning time Smile). Great spot, really good for letting the hounds burn off a bit of excess. Did we see some other geo-cachers? Not sure, I will have to check the local logs.

29-Aug-15
I spent the afternoon doing Sol's NRL series and while navigating from NRL 15 to NRL 16 I saw this one pop up. It was pretty much on the way, so thought I'd give it a go.

Only took a few minutes to find this. I haven't found the other caches mentioned in the hint, but the hint was useful anyway and I knew what I was looking for. I can see that it might be easier at this time of the year than at other times.

I haven't been around this area for many years (since before the fires in fact) and I don't think I've been up this hill before. It was definitely worth it! TFTC Smile

27-Jul-15
Too cleverly hidden for this rookey. Fading light and rain coming over had to give up but I will be back.

19-Jul-15
Wow, don't know how I found this, but finally did. Wasn't sure what size to be hunting for. Tftc!

06-Jul-15
It was a brilliant crisp night for a wander up the hill to find the cache safe and snug in the nook I left it in over two years ago. The views are even better at night than during the day.

05-Jul-15
I think you need to replace the container and make it more obvious because of the number of DNF's.

05-Jul-15
Found it with an earlier finder and still could't so I DNFed it Sad

With Lethal porpoise and 3 dogs.

Doing the NRL series and walking the hounds. The GPSr abandoned us half way up the hill so we wandered up to the Trig to admire the fog. Then we got a fix...and an idea... so thought we'd have a go at this. No luck, but I see now we are not alone with a DNF. We are cold and wet and hungry but we'll be back. Love the tribute McPhan

21-Jun-15
Had a good idea of what container I was looking for but I had completely the wrong idea of where it would be placed and that had be barking up the wrong tree so to speak. Was looking like this would be a DNF but changed my search perspective and soon found it. TFTC McPhan.

14-Jun-15
After spending the morning out in the cotter collecting caches, I decided to make a start on the caches on Narabundah Hill after lunch and before I had to go and pick one of my daughters up from Camp Cottermouth. Knew exactly what to look for once I arrived at the tree. After a bit of searching I spotted the treasure and signed the log. Log book needs replacement. Thanks McPhan

08-Jun-15
Looked high and low but to no avail. Hopefully have better luck next time. TFTC

31-May-15
Alas the second attempt to find this one with no luck again!

31-May-15
Finally! I have had suspicions on a few caches around Canberra that might employ this camo but always end up without the find. Almost a similar situation here today but luckily I got there in the end. Hunting high and low for what I suspected. Then got quite a scare when a pair of foxes came puffing and panting past, but I think in the end I scared them more than they scared me. After much grumpiness, finally located the hide. Nicely executed. Thanks McPhan Big Grin

Looked for 30 min, read the clue and the previous logs. still didn't find it.
