Awesome spot and the cache is in perfect condition. Shame it was archived. Thanks for the cache Scrub Bull

Needing a break from tree fishing I’ve come to Mapleton NP for a walk, well mainly to do the Wherigo at this location.
I didn’t check my archived map before coming to the Sunshine Coast as I had a lot on my list for this weekend. While doing the WIG it was mentioned that this archived cache was still here and logable, what a nice surprise! It was a really nice walk through the forest in the way and I had the whole place to myself.

After checking out the enormous bunya pine it was a quick look over here and the cache was unearthed. Understandably the log was damp but I managed to scribble my name. Awesome bonus this was. Tftc scrub bull.

Before leaving home, I had briefly looked at the area this geocache lived in. Dirt roads are slightly concerning as my car is not far removed from 'unicycle' on the spectrum of 'offorad-capable vehicles'. But considering there looked to be a parking area and the Streetview car had made it, I figured we would too. And sort the rest upon arrival.

Some ten kilometres (and I'd later do double that more today) of dirt roads from Mapleton had me arrive at the pre-examined parking location. And really, the drive was fine - no issues to report. And truly, I do love kicking up a hecka dust cloud.

This would be the second archived Scrub Bull geocache for the day. I like Scrub Bull, I like archived, so this is a golden combo! Only issue I had was that I had to wander around before finding the trail head. But I spotted it and the little footpad heading down into the bush.

Off I go! It sure felt miles from anyone down here, which I was all for! The stillness and quiet is just excellent! As expected, I had no reception, so was glad I stopped along the drive on a small hill to download the co-ordinates I needed (thanks to not doing it at home).

When I got close, it was evident that the area has changed somewhat, but has certainly not been flooded. There was really only one place for the geocache, and a poke with a stick had it revealed to me. I took a moment to enjoy opening it and being in this place, before returning it and completing the circuit.

Given it is definitely the track less walked, it is in remarkably well-kept condition. I can see why you'd come here each time you visit. And I absolutely wouldn't've explored here if not for your geocache. So thank you for bringing me here, Scrub Bull Smile

Beautiful drive down past the dam and then on to GZ. We came here to do the Whereigo cache "Bonyee Walk" but then realized we had the opportunity to find this archived cache, a great bonus. Lovely walk around Piccabeen Palm Groves circuit. TFTC Scrub Bull Smile

We went to the lovely little forest this morning to do the Wherigo and also looked for this old archived cache. It was a joyous moment when we found it with the original log book. What a lovely area it was survived in all this time. We signed the log and replaced the cache as we found it. Thanks Scrub Bull!

Jacs and I came to do Dahumbugs new Whereigo and had said that this cache was still here even though it had been acheived. Fantastic walk along a path to the spot and then we started looking it didnt take that long to discover it.
Great caching day with a FTF whereigo, two Adventure labs plus bonus and a couple of oldies as well. We also got to have lunch at a cafe after two months of Isolation.

Came to do the new Wherigo and were pleased to pick this up as a bonus. I’ve never been a archived cache hunter, but when your in the vicinity it would be rude not to show it some love. All in all it’s in pretty good nick.

Don't care if this is archived, we just had to come and see this bunya beauty. Us tree lovers appreciated a cache made just to honour one. And luckily, the hide was still there after all this time. Kinda funny that no one has found it in five years then twice in one week. Congrats to NyssaButterfly on her cacherversary, I'm glad she got here before me to sign. Thanks for putting it here and bringing our attention to it SB. Although I found it unusual that there was only two.

I came looking for this cache many moons ago but had no luck at that time. After talking to the Bug recently he reminded me of this one and so I decided to make it my cache to celebrate my 8th geocaching birthday. I just crossed my fingers I’d have better luck this time.

Wombles, my munchkins and I all enjoyed the a lovely drive through the countryside to get here. The area is so green at the moment. We strolled to GZ, trying not to step in a few puddles along the way and then started the hunt. It didn’t take long until I had uncovered the well hidden beasty! Woohoo Smile Our scribble was left on the log and then we took some time to appreciate the area and take a few photos.

Thanks for the cache Scrub Bull Big Grin

This was our destination today! Nyssaflutterby’s 8th geobirthday and she wanted to celebrate by hunting for this long lost cache!
A nice walk down the track to the huge tree, I wasn’t quite expecting that!
We started searching and expanded our zone further and further before nyssa went back to our original spot and eventually uncovered the cache!!
Yay! After five years this cache is still in pretty good condition, the log was a little dank but not too bad really! Nice to see it’s the original logbook too!
Thanks for the cache Scrub bull and humbug for keeping it going.

I had heard of this amazing tree a long while ago but didn't know exactly where it was - that was before geocaching! Now I know where to take visitors to experience this grand old bonyee bonyee! Just to be near the trunk and to touch its ancient bark has a very grounding effect. Its fruit must have fed thousands of people and animals over its lifetime! Also good to see the surrounding bushland being protected.
Thanks Scrub Bull for placing this cache and thanks dahumbug for caring for it, this is one of my favourite geocaches.

Returned today with new container and restored logbook. Container is bagged as well, and should be there for others to enjoy. Took my wife for the little walk. We read the sign and found that the bunya tree throws a fruit/nut that is edible. Surveying the ground, we found a nut to try.

New container/ original log book/ original scrub bull sticker on container.

Was scrolling through the Scrub Bull caches and noticed this one, especially only 13 kms from home. I decided to jump in the car and pay it a visit. I had driven virtually past here a lot recently on my way to Kenilworth and thought I would come out here again for a quick spin today. Parking as close asI could, I was amazed to see there is an actual walk to do. Only 120 metres and a track to follow, this was sounding to good to be true for Scrub Bull. A quick stroll and I was at GZ in no time. The pine cones from the bunya pines grabbed at my feet through my pluggers, but it was still fairly comfortable.

I was amazed to see a big giant tree at GZ with a sign reflecting so. A quick memory of the hint and the cache was located. A open of the cache revealed very wet contents, especially a very wet logbook.better do something about that.

In a flash I was back at my car and on my way.
Thanks Scrub Bull for the cache...always the pleasure.

Took cache with me. Trying to dry out logbook and will put back very soon. Cache hasn't been found for 15 months so shouldn't be an inconvenience.

Guess what! Its not missing. Still in the same spot.
I had previously walked down this path when I was a bush walker and now a geocacher.
Cache was in the first spot I looked.
It was very wet and we emptied out the water.
I forgot to bring my kit so could not change the logbook but managed to get our name on the page where the last cacher signed. Could next cacher bring one please.
The bunya trees get bigger everytime I see them.

Looks like flooding has recently swept through the area. No sign of it anywhere.

12-Feb-11
Yep, the cache is really, really wet and pages of the log book almost paper pulp. I only chanced through the area so wasn't prepared for being able to supply a new log book. I guess from the look of the area it has been innundated with a lot of water washing down the hill as a result of the recent rains so a wet cache on the ground is not too unexpected.

Interesting about the Bunya Pine. I'm glad that the football sized 'fruit' weren't in season and dropping onto the 'melons' of unsuspecting individuals scratching around the area!

I decided to clean up an area of caches west of Yandina. I stopped and parked at this one. The track there was just a small running little creek - but I made my way to GZ. The GPSr did not know if it was arthur or martha - but the hint told me where the beast was. It was found after a small hunt. Unfortuantely, the cache is very wet. I haven't met a logbook yet that my fancy pen can't write on. The next finder might want to bring a replacement notebook and a baggy. Re-hid the beast and made my way back to the car. It took a bit of finding because of the tree cover. Cache is still in good condition, although the log was a little damp. Great spot. Thanks.

Wow this took some finding...as we dodged pick-a-bean nuts falling from high above (and luckily not bunya nuts) i eventually found it at the first gz i searched. It was just buried a lot deeper in the mulch as it hasn't been found for about 18 months. Enjoyed the nice walk in this amazing piece of forest. There was a bit of water in the cache and the log was damp but signable. We dried out the contents and the bag as best we could and returned it to its hide.TNLN Thanks Scrub Bull

Could not find. There was a fair sized tree felled recently nearby and I wonder whether that stirred up the vegetation. Still, it was a nice walk down there.

10 am. interesting walk into here with all the canopy - surprised the GPS still working, be it a bit off, but the hint bought me back to the right spot.

Found at 1105hrs in the rain after an enjoyable walk in with holster and thehairbear. Heard a few thumps while we were in there thankfully it wasn't too close.

The cache had water in it but the logbook is still dry. I emptied the water out of the container but the trade items have been wet. May need a bit of maintenance as it hadn't been looked at since August 07.

Great spot.

Bunya pines - Aren't they the ones with cones larger than a persons head? Haven't they killed people in the past???

Well, This little geocacher got the fright of his life, yes, you guessed it, There I was, filling in the log book, Crash, bang, thud, thump, crash, Spun around looked up, then realised it was falling from the other one. AND WHAT A NOISE.

Tnat made me nervous, filled in the log looking skywards all the time, then I was outa there. SPOOKY.

But, the trees were a magnificent sight, Thanks for the top location, again.

Number 972, The forest came alive while we were in there . It was about 7 pm and a heap of animals were fossicking for food. As we walked on the path, the commotion inside the hollow log next to us , was unbelievable. Great spot again SB. Cheers The Nanks

Beware this cache [:o]
It started as a beautiful stroll amongst the palms. But on closer reading of the sign at GZ it became apparent that the beautiful surrounds held a deadly secret. Forget extinction by a massive meteorite impact on the Earth [:o]
Standing here your far more likely to be hit by something just as deadly Big Grin
It all adds to the fun of looking for the cache though [^]
My only comfort was it is March Big Grin
