25-Mar-24
Our main goal for the visit around was the virtual "First New Zealand" GC45 Memorial Plaque (BOP). We have never found a plaque cache before so we really wanted to find the one dedicated to the first cache placed in New Zealand and the first placed outside of United States. However, as we parked our car near the virtual cache we had a look at this mystery cache with the icon located nearby. Fortunately the puzzle was solved quickly, we deciphered the coordinates too so off we go again, this time for the puzzle cache just solved. Thanks Xmuggle for the cache!Riddle solved next to plaque where first cache in NZ was Smile

This was another grand day on my week long solo adventure on the North Island from Atlanta in the U.S. I'm so glad I am more comfortable driving on the other side of the road now although sometimes I have to remind myself out loud where to go. LOL I am finally getting around to logging my finds. I really get twitchy when I'm so far behind! Many thanks to all the COs who hid caches, responded to my earthcache and virtual answers, and helped make another day of my trip truly memorable. Since I was in the area, I had to find this cache. It was a quick and easy find, just the way I like 'em. The log was damp but sign-able. Thank you for the smiley and the fun!

On our fivth day in New Zealand we travel from Rotorua to Turangi. This nice cache lay on our way.TFTCHennesAt the end comes the poem of the day.New Zealand By James K. Baxter (for Monte Holcroft)These unshaped islands, on the sawyers bench,Wait for the chisel of the mind,Green canyons to the south, immense and passive,Penetrated rarely, seeded onlyBy the deer-cullers shot, or else in the northTribes of the shark and the octopus,Mangroves, black hair on a boxers hand. The founding fathers with their guns and bibles,Botanist, whaler, added bones and namesTo the land, to us a bridleAs if the id were a horse: the swampy townsLike dreamers that struggle to wake,Longing for the poets truthAnd the lovers pride. Something new and oldExplores its own pain, hearingThe rains choir on curtains of grey mossOr fingers of the Tasman pressingOn breasts of hardening sand, as actorsFind their own solitude in mirrors,As one who has buried his dead,Able at last to give with an open hand.

Having taken Friday off as leave, and with Monday being Wellington Anniversary, I am making the most of a 4-day weekend by spending it with friends in the Waikato in order to try to target a few specific caches up here and otherwise boost my numbers for January. Our crew consists of Mr-Mcgoo, Itchyfeet2020, NZ_B and myself TwigNZ, and so to save space on logs we simply signed our finds today with either MINT or Team MINT depending on log size.Today is day 3, and just like the previous 2 day there was a great deal of driving to a lot of beautiful places which make me want to come back and spend a lot more time at. One of the joys of geocaching for me is that I get to see places that I wouldn't have thought to visit otherwise, but often you just get a 'taste' of a place because you're rushing off to get another cache somewhere. One of the main targets of today was to hit the 'X marks the spot' trail of puzzle caches, and any other caches we encountered on our driving around the wider area, such as this one. Of our group, it was only me that needed this one today so I went off on my own to get it. I actually made a far bigger meal of finding it than I ought to have as my phone was initially guiding me to a spot about 17m away from where the cache was. Just my phone having a bit of a 'moment' before things settled down and a bit of help from one of the others soon had it all sorted. No other issues to report and our names were soon added to the log before the whole thing was replaced as found. and we were all back on our way again. Thanks for setting this one up.

After dropping the family at the accommodation I headed back down Highway 5 to collect a few more caches targeting some solved puzzles. S9lved thus begire I flew across but didn't seem quite right when I arrived (really didn't want to head into those blackberues). Based on the hint I thought I would have a look nearby. And what do you know the cache was spotted (about 60m and across the road from where I had calculated).TFTC Xmuggle

Solved this puzzle prior to leaving Aust. As JACS, Gcoven and I were visiting the nearby virtual, we went a little further to grab the cache. Would have much prefer to grab and sign the original GC45, this hide somewhat makes up for it, thanks Xmuggle for your efforts here.

22-Apr-23
Another day in the land of the long white cloud. TeamARF, JACSTeam and I had a fab day collecting oldies and challenges. Made our way back north to Rotorua . Lots of earth caches and geology lessons today! Rainy windy cold weather dampened some plans . Thanks to all the COs fur the amazing selection of caches highlighting all NZ has to offer

22-Apr-23
Day 9: We ( TeamARF, Gcoven and myself) have travelled over from Brisbane, Australia to have a visit since we were not able to make it to the Mega. We have spent some considerable time solving puzzles and making plans in preparation. We have a gigantic list of old, interesting, highly favourited, challenges and a few Geo-arts to try and collect over the next 10 days. There is a good chance we got lazy with our logging, or space saving depending on the log size and do some joint variation of our initials - TGJ, GJT or JGT.

Today the plan is to work on collecting things of our list - some of the very old caches in the area as we head back north towards Auckland. We are also picking up a few challenges (will check qualifying once home).

Please excuse the generic log, just have extremely little data to try and survive on it for the 10 days. However, you can be assured that if we have found your cache it was special to us for some reason or in a special location - so thank you for contributing to our holiday.

I will edit logs when back in Brisbane to add more details to those that need more details and of course I will be adding favourite points as I go along.

Driving home today in the rain - figured I'd stop by some of the more well-known caches on the way.

I solved this one very quickly in the car in Rotorua and then made sure to take the walk there as well as the Virtual. This cache I found in pieces on the ground, but luckily the log was still there and the container was undamaged, so I simply returned it to the hiding spot. Tftc!

#1937. Day 4 of a week’s sojourn in the Volcanic Plateau, based in Turangi. GB Leader and I did a day trip to Rotorua to see my brother and pick up some caches.

The weather forecast was not promising (ex-Tropical Cyclone Fili was on the way) but we visited Kuirau Park and completed the AdLab, then drove down for a quick visit to see the lake. Very murky & starting to rain, but I grabbed a (nearly) brand new cache. 3TF!

Then we headed south, en route back to Turangi and stopped for this historic cache and its near Mystery neighbour. It had poured with rain just as we left Rotorua, but it had stopped as we got to GZ. So we didn’t get wet heading along the cycle way to get the photo for the plaque cache, and on for this strange little puzzle Mystery one.

Greetings from Wellington. Tftc Xmuggle.

11-Apr-22
I needed this cache so that I can pick up a challenge cache when I fly down to Christchurch next month (GC44FDK). So I planned a day down in Rotorua with my muggle hubbie and we did a circuit of the lake picking up a few caches here and there, then finally headed south to pick up this one and the nearby Virtual. Great spot and great cache thanks Smile

Knowing that I was gonna be in Rotorua (from Wellington) for a few days this week, I spent the last couple of weeks working on some of the mystery cache puzzles in the area. This was one of them.

Having visited the GC45 plaque last time I was here, it was only right that on this visit I log this tribute. So I did.

17-Sep-21
Thanks very much for this one, overlooked this one when I did the virtual, blonde or senior moment, I’ll go for blonde!

Isis58 and I are on a mission over the long weekend to find as many TMGT and PWGT caches as possible with the occasional normal cache thrown in as time allows. This is one of only a couple of caches on the must find list that isnt a geotour. I brought my tribute plaque coin with me on this trip just so it could visit this cache and the virtual before going into my collection. Thanks for hiding and maintaining Xmuggle

Not sure why I did not do this one the last time I was in Rotorua and did the GC45 virtual, but was down for the BMX Nationals just down the road. Thank you for a very solveable puzzle and quick find.

25-Feb-21
Driving from Whakatane to Wellington today. We did this cycle way two years ago but I wasn’t good enough to solve the puzzle then. Must have revisited the puzzle when I got home. Visiting the new plaque today I discovered that I had corrected coordinates for this one too. A quick find.
Not tempted to try to visit the other waypoints. TFTC

We came for the virtual but The Seagnoid also has the answer to this riddle so we go check it out. Left my calling card. Cheers.

Day 18 - Monday 4 January January 2021 -Rotorua - Taupo - Turangi - Palmerston North - heading home slowly. A trip to Okere falls first, then visiting The Seagnoids Mum. Picking up Zara and heading south. Another very long traveling day.

The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and I are off on another geocaching escape over Xmas, this time to the mighty Coromandel, then over to Opotiki and stop off at Rotorua to return home on 5 January. Had an fabulous time exploring many wonders of our country. Rounding up over 400 caches along the way, with a few LABS, 20 odd TMGTs, virtuals and lots of interesting earth caches to keep the mind busy. Watching the sun come up on New Years Day at Mt Maunganui was spectacular. Lots of walking and even more driving. But had an awesome time. Thanks to all COs who made this adventure so special.

GPS was a bit scatty in this place but the geosenses eventually kicked in to the only spot it could be and there it was.
Collected while on a road trip which is the extension to the "Mega that wasn't" over labour weekend. TFTC.

In lieu of Akld Mega 2020, we decided a side trip to the new tribute cache (to GC45) was in order. Travelling with South Island cachers, we found a number of caches including this one.
We have typically signed as mrandmrschosen1978 or occasionally MM78.

We're travelling around in a rented campervan (it's okay: I know where my mirrors are, I use them, and I pull over often ). Day one was Christchurch to Auckland to Matamata. Day two, Hobbiton then off to Rotorua. Day three (when I found this cache), was a trip to "The Squeeze" with NZ Riverjet, and a *very* quick trip to Huka Falls (bucketing down, we didn't see much).
Today (as I catch up on logging) we visited the Redwood forest the drove to Cooks Beach in the Coromandel (a bit of a drive in a camper)! Loving the trip, and finding a few select caches.

I wanted to target the new tribute to GC45 Virtual cache (with the plaque) and only got it by luck - I pulled into the rest area to let traffic pass! Lucky I did as I got the targeted cache *and* convinced Not Manly Jack to come along to find this one too. Huzzah!

Nice puzzle.. Three heads worked together and solved this on the spot. I am on a North Island Figure of Eight your. For the first 4 days I spend time in the Bay of Plenty with my husband JDScout. We are basing ourselves in Rotorua during this time.
Thanks Xmuggle for creating this hide. It was find 8939 for me.

======== NZ Mega 2021 ========

A combined effort to solve this out of the field which was the most successful.
Jude_E, NosyNel and I are completing a figure of 8 tour of the North Island collecting the ‘Tour’ caches, plus others, plus seeing the scenery, plus having a good old time. TFTC.

The nicely compiled puzzle didn't take me long to solve and today was a good opportunity to stop to see if I could find the cache. After having found a good safe place to park, I headed to the cache site where I was hoping for a quick find in the showery conditions. That is exactly what happened. I will have to stop again sometime to search for the other caches that are close by.
