Find #502. The eighth find for the day as we journeyed our way around Tongariro National Park clockwise, starting and ending at Ohakune. While the weather started out cloudy and drizzly, it soon burnt off leaving nothing but blue sky and sun. We arrived at the parking and soon started walking across the grass towards the path and lake. We soon found it after being on the correct level Smile. A very beautiful and quaint spot, the lake looked wonderful! SL TFTC.

From the listing I expected the path to be longer, but even better in the hot weather today. Great view of the lake from here. The cache is almost dry at the moment.

09-Dec-10
I found the cache easily but it was soaked with water. So I took it to my van to dry out and I put a new piece of paper as log book. Placed it nice and dry at the correct place. TFTC and the views.

Wow, the scenery from the picnic table was simply magical and this was one of the best spots yet for a picnic lunch for a bunch of happy cachers after a long walk around Lake Rotopounamu earlier in the day. We spent a lazy relaxing lunch by the lakeside before heading for the cache. If there were a way to rate a perfect driveby cache, we’ll say that this one has all the items checked off: great views, picnic tables, public toilets and most important: A CACHE! Big Grin.
Thanks Mother Genius, Hammer & Genius Junior for the cache!
P.S: The cache didn't have a log book in it. We wrote on a sheet of paper and placed it in the cache.

I cycled in at your cache. Great lake. TFTC MacBanger

No 10 of 14 today. What an interesting place. We felt as if many eyes were watching, so we thought we should at least attempt a bit of a picnic - well it was smoko anyway. Was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was. NINO, TFTC

We did a family day out an looked for 17 caches. This is cache 10 for us. A good little play of words for this one. Was not obvious to start with.

11-Jul-09
Lovely spot indeed. We ended up having lunch by the lakeside. A couple of members from the Rotoaira Camp Trust came down to look us over, then one ambled over for a yarn. Interesting history to the area.

Thanks for bring us here, and thanks for the cache!

What a magic spot!! I almost forgot why we came here! I was too busy taking photo's while Mrs Geckoh already had the cache in hand!

Drove through the campsite to park beside the lake. Another camper was already there with a family enjoying their picnic beside it. Another couple were also eating lunch by the lake. Pleased to find the path to the cache took us out of their view and we had no trouble finding it. Superb location! SL. TFTC.

Slipped in here after doing some serious walking and caching on the Ketetahi end of the track. Isn't this place a bit of a gem! The camping ground is of another era and has a bit of a forgotten place look to it. But we enjoyed our visit. Followed the clear instructions and found GZ with little bother. Located the cache.

Mak, Ra and friend clambered up the wet track. Spent ages looking for the cache - well hidden!
Picked up toy soldier to add to Ra's collection. Weren't prepared so had no loot to stash, but instead left $1.

Cool spot. Always wanted to check out this camp! Thanks!

06-May-07
Lovely spot. Found with no troubles, even took the goat track! Campers at the park were looking at us very suspiciously as we drove back out, we just smiled and waved.

Thanks

Went for a drive to give my youngest son some practice behind the wheel, and this cache was the destination/excuse! Nice spot - didn't take us (him actually!) very long to find it. We made no swops because we only had the etrex and printout with us. Enjoyed the view though. Thanks.

13-Apr-07
What a great place, hidden not far off the road, but one you would probably drive past without a thought. Really worth the visit. TFTC

XC and TechnoKitten out and about on Xena.. heading towards the Ketetahi Track to place another one...
Saw this come up on GPSr and decided to stop before our climb.. knowing that I was going to be exhausted at the end of it...
Rode Xena down thru the camping ground.. Lots of nice friendly muggles taking a great interest in princess Xena.
XC allowed mini muggles to sit on Xena.. nice thrill for the littleys..
Oooh this doesn't look far.. so off we go around track..
TK was so keen she overshot but XC saw the side track up to the lookout..
Beautiful views.. I just love this area. May even come to live here.
Soon had our hands on cache.. Nice camo bag.. TK was impressed..
Signed the log and left calling cards.. TK uplifted James Geocoin.. No sign of McSheik TB.??

Riding shotgun with the inimitable XenaCommander aboard princess Xena.. Stopped to find this new cache on our way to scale the flank of Tongariro. The GPS took us through an interesting and very friendly camping ground with lots of interesting "Streets"..!!
The track to the cache was just beautiful.. loved the fern grotto... Was enjoying so much I overshot the track to the cache. XC called "heel"..!! Ok.. TK dutifully trots uphill following XC with GPSr in hand.
An easy find by XC.. Loved the camo bag and beautifully presented cache..
Signed the log... uplifted James Geocoin and left cards..
TFTC.

Found very late in the afternoon on a lovely blue day. Good views from the cache location. No idea how you found this spot but well worth a visit.
TNLN. Thanks.

09-Mar-07
A stunningly beautiful morning, calm with not a breath of wind. A quick stopover as we were going past, on the way back from early morning fishing at Otamangakau, didn't intend to go cache hunting. We had to search from memory as we'd left the notes and all the info behind but had no trouble finding the cache. Expected a longer walk, but pleased it wasn't.Wink

A lovely little spot. TNLN. Thanks for an unexpected find.

03-Mar-07
Well, we missed the FTF, but only just. It was lovely to meet up again with Eruptn team. They were watching us as we pulled up, and we knew we were just too late.... should have done this one this morning. Oh well....
A great little placement.... once upon a time Butterfly would have been challenged by this - but not today.
Left James Geocoin here to enjoy looking out over the lake, and McSheikh TB, as all boys enjoy McDs, I'm sure.
Thanks for the fun on this one.

03-Mar-07
Great spot to stop for a coffee and watch potential FTFers arriving (sorry BFlady/RNut, you were so close). Had been down the mountains for the morning with colleges from Vanuatu, and what better way to fill the day on the way home than a few caches ... Thanks, yet another spot i'd normaly have driven past.
