We decided to chance the access roads in our little Mazda and although it was a little slow going in places we arrived near GZ without incident or spotting any locals. However a short search revealed what seemed to be a trashed cache. We signed a damp log and gathered up some of the bits and pieces and placed in a bag and left with the shattered container. TFTC
Cache was trashed when we found it and needs to be replaced. See actual log. Thanks
A Sunday afternoon solo drive to nab a few caches. I had tried to attempt this a few years back but the road in was way too rough for my car so today I came prepared with the 4WD. A beautiful drive in through Yandoit Hills with some gorgeous architecture (and some "piss off" signs)! Found easy enough when I got here too. Many thanks for the cache
Find #1278 for me. Found with virbull and jtnsilo on a 4WD road-trip to get some more "isolated" caches that would be difficult to get to in my little 2WD Getz without a substantial walk. I'd seen this one on a map previously and had been earlier tempted to leave my car at Yandoit Creek Road and walk in, but wasn't too keen to do this given the presence of the unfriendly locals suggested by some of the previous logs. Much better to do it with virbull and jtnsilo today, especially in virbull's vehicle which could take us right in to GZ. Actually virbull confused me by approaching from a different direction but it seems he can drive through almost any kind of terrain in his 4WD so what would have been impossible for me to do alone was actually very simple today! We made a quick find at GZ then continued on our way with no sign of locals, unfriendly or otherwise. Thanks for bringing us here today The Morris and thanks for the cache!
I joined virbull and claybol on a 4WD road-trip to get some more "isolated" caches and were very appreciative of the opportunity as these would have been difficult to manage without a long walk. We made a quick find at GZ . thanks to The Morris for the cache placement.

Found with Snap Happy on a great day of caching in the area. On the way in we did have a chuckle at the "Local Traffic Only" sign and there was a lady near there giving us the evil eye. Thanks for the hide.
On the way home and decided to do one more cache as a had some time up my sleeve. Geez it was a bit of a rough journey but luckily my little beast made it. The cache wasn't hidden very well and I could spot it from about 10 feet. Once log was signed I tried to conceal the cache better.
Whel, we done found thay. . . uhh cache, but ay think in breathing thay. . . uhh local air we been transfawmed into local hillbilly types. The Bug series done and I finished off the Bird trail and a couple of grabs in Castlemaine it was time for me to head home, the long way.
After getting a couple of caches in Newstead I checked the GPSr and noticed this small group of cache. Humming and haring on if I would go to them or not, well I was out for the day and what kind of adventure would it be if I didn't take a chance and go the extra distance for them. then showed up a LARGE cache, whats a couple of extra ks down the road.
With a love of horror movies, I thought I had just driven into the set of one of the "Wrong Turn" franchise of flicks. although the locals look more normal than the Inbreed freaks from the movies.
I got a little put of with the "No Through Road" sign but decided to push on. Slow and steady up the hill in my 2WD ute, I also noticed that one of the huts, down in the valley, has its own pier from the back door right into the dam.
up near GZ I had the cache in no time as it was out in the open. I got my name in the log and put the cache back in its log and then legged it out of there asap.

Up the hill and round the bend. Good to find this cache in good order. Took key ring and left gold coin. Nice view across the misty rainswept valley this afternoon. TFTC The Morris.
Great little drive in! Further down a tree has fallen across and no one has cleared it so it was a u turn to get out. Road not suitable for 2wd. TFTC.
Found while attending a doof at the near by even got to see the damage mario did to the local bridge (found with stooy)
Enjoy drive to Yandoit.

Bumpy road. Saw a black kangaroo. Nice big cache with lots of good swaps. Thanks for the hide.
Caching this afternoon with Motndarg and Tomstache. It was a very bumpy ride. GZ was spot on. Amazing views, great swaps. We signed the log and replaced. Thank you for bringing us here.
Glad today was not too wet, as I think the track to this cache would be difficult in the winter. We
negotiated our way to the cache and found it with McLookers and Tomstache. Noticed the wild flowers were in abundance , saw Leek orchid , first time for ages. Thanks for the cache .

Was alot of runoff from the rain overnight. It was an easy find after an Echidna dug it out of its hiding place.
We where a bit weary of the signs but the chance to get a large cache out weighed it. It was abit dark as late in the day but with careful navigation the 2WD made it to GZ. We saw the last keep out sign just a few hundred meters from GZ. We completed the signing duties and then got out of there as fast as we could. TFTC

at 4.30pm. I had a bit of trouble finding the road, but got there in the end. There was a "Private Property" sign about 170 metres before the cache. Good view. Cache is in good condition. TNLN. TFTC.
At last a cooler day during our stay in Maryborough. A very careful drive to the area both because of the road conditions and the predominance of the "private property", ""no entry" signs. Once the GPS had settled a quick find and then a careful drive back to the bitumen.

After reading the description here, a sort of unease spread through the car as I wound my way along this rutted lonely road. As we turned a corner, and this is the honest truth, a few crows emerged from the trees, nothing unusual there, but then each tree along this corridor expelled more and more crows until there was about 200 in the air. A scene from the movie Birds sprung to mind. Another 'Private Property' sign and we were at the cache. I asked Sully if she'd grab the cache while I turned the car around............."Nup, already got this one, out you go." Gulp, fortunately a quick find before jumping back into the car.
Thanks again The Morris for another cache with a story, followed by a nightmare.

The first of four caches I found in a quick hour of caching before meeting up with my sister to enjoy a very relaxing afternoon at the Hepburn Spa (expensive, but highly recommended!!)
Driving into this cache, the road got thinner and rougher the further I went, until 300m before the cache I decided my Outback didn't want to go any further (I'm sure it would have been fine, but I could hear my other half in my head ranting about breaking it, so caution prevailed) I took a risk, left he car wear it was and continued on foot. Found the cache and signed the log. I didn't notice the house the previous logger mentioned. I headed back to the car and started reversing. For a fair way. I'm better at it than I thought!
I picked this cache up, at 12:01pm.
Thanks for the cache The Morris.

The little town has us absolutely fascinated!! After reading the description we opened our eyes and saw all the barbed wire fencing and signs! As we got to the GZ we were concerned we were on private property (as there was a house on the hill that had a potential view of us) so we decided to make a quick in and out cache in the case the local muggles were not enthused with the game. As we were leaving Yandoit heading home, several of the locals were out and about. We got quiet a few unfriendly stares which was uncomfortable until we came across a local cycling in which we received a wave. We will definitely becoming back to this little town (apologises in advance to the locals) to have a look around, very interesting!! Thank you for taking us here Morris! Let's hope curiosity does not kill the cat
Thought we were in the middle of no where, then after we found the cache, a local muggle appears. With JimmiDee & Allison, Caleb & Tabitha.
Found it but lucky we had a 4WD!! Didn't manage to get chased out by shotgun wielding locals!
Yes definitely feel like your an intruder been up in here! Meet a few friendly neoghbours. Love been out in the middle of nowhere very picturess. Thanks for the cache
This was ÜBER scary in the dark :/ but I am a bit of a scary cat Left bubbles took flying disk thingi TFTC!!
Very bumpy drive up to here in the GeoFalcon. But the track was solid enough and I had no issues getting in or out.
Thanks for bringing me here and showing me the sights, despite the best efforts of the locals to stop us.

Found this one just in time before the Garmin went flat. Thanks for bringing us here Mr Morris. We love the stone work in the area. The track was rough but our little car managed superbly.
Found easily enough when we had walked in after a couple of false tracks. Definitely not for a 2WD with low clearance.
We weren't what awaited us up this track but the view wad great. Now how to turn the car around.
Okay drive here in the dry in a 2WD but wet may have been a problem. Pleasant patch of forest and view.
Took the 2WD up some iffy tracks and got a park right near the cache, no trouble finding it, I had more trouble navigating the roads in and out of there.
This one was in a very snakey place, so wear yr jeans and blunnies and take along a good stick. Make lots of noise around the area while you enjoy the view. Thx for taking us to a place in Yandoit i'd never been to before, even tho I live here! Took heart stickers, left holy toast imprinter.
My first of the day on the way to the PreEaster Event at Laanecoorie. Yandoit was pretty
quiet today, not a car or a muggle to be seen. Quick log and return to cache. Many Thanks to

Found this one at 3:35pm, a big improvement on our last bush micro attempt! Not too hard a trek for the 304. Noted only one enormous golden orb web spider in vicinity and fortunately did not walk into it! Took: mondo. Left:cat brooch. TFTC and an alternate way home!
Another quick find with friends on board (locals from 'round the corner). Those spiders still about, and those webs are so strong. TNLN SL
we found it , this is next to our friends property, but when we got to the catch was next to where it should be. Some Animal is thinking that it better for sleeping in .
The 2WD got to within about 500m and then it was Shanks Pony from there.
The day was heating up and we walked into a few spiders webs but we found the cache OK.
It looked like some animal had pushed it out of its hiding place but the cache was OK.
Nice quiet spot, thanks The Morris.

Found at 2.10pm. What a great drive to this one. We have a 4WD, but think we would be a bit more cautious with a 2WD in some places along this track. Anyway back to the cache and why we chose this area. GeoMa's great-great grandparents lived in this area from about 1862 - 1877. We know very little about this couple and their family, but were interested to see the area in which they lived and searched for gold so long ago. GeoMa's great grandmother and her sisters were all born in Yandoit in the 1860's. We found the well-stocked cache easily - no spiders today although evidence of previous inhabitant. Took: dragon Left: orange ring and ear-rings. Did not have any TB's to leave which might make this cache a little busier. TFTC The Morris giving us a tour of the area of our ancestors.
Lid of cache not on properly, fright received as I opened the cache and a huntsman from within ran over my hand. TNLNSL TFTC
Found today at 1230 by Mr & Mrs 1SR out for a drive. A quick find. 4th of 11 finds for the day. I'm sure we heard bajos playing as we drove through the town. Great area thanks for making us come through here.

Almost had us stumped, but we found it. You should have a 4WD (or at least high ground clearance) if you decide to continue on down the hill.
The Subi Forester made short work of the approach and the cache was spotted and retrieved immediately on getting out of the car. Think I'd be a bit more cautious with a conventional vehicle though. Thought I'd try to keep on straight ahead to find a way out but was not game to continue into the hard right downhill turn, as it didn't look too easy to reverse if I struck trouble. So I left a bit of duco on the local vegetation whilst backing up to turn around and exit via the way I came in. Amazing old buildings in the area. TNLN. Many thanks for the cache.
Came at this one from #2, however due to Old Yella the eTrex suffering from satellite amnesia at a critical moment I missed the turnoff, and followed the road all the way down to its finish (predictably enough at a gate proclaiming 'Trespassers Prosecuted', it is Yandoit after all!). After returning to the junction it was a simple drive up to the cache, which was quickly located. TNLN, signed log at 12:55pm.
The journey back down to the Yandoit CBD was a little rough, but got through okay. Thanks The Morris for this rather pleasant detour off the main road!

I am not sure that we used the best road in to GZ, our 2wd found the road very rough and slow going but all was well in the end. Found the cache with ease before going back to the cart and enjoying our picnic lunch. It was then a slow drive back out again to the main road.

NOT the most welcoming place for our falcon! We probably should have turned around after we had found the cache instead of driving onwards.Made for some extra excitement, and then a challenge to find the next cache from where we ended up. Took a frog and left a Ninja Turtle.Great fun and a memorable drive. Thanks.
Phew! Thank goodness my car is still in one piece. For the second time today I got myself in a position that caused me some concern, but some hard revving and a little luck got me out again. I'm sure there is a lesson for me in there somewhere. Amidst all that drama I found the cache and admired the views of the valleys below - spectacular.

Visiting the two Yandoit caches was not originally on my plan for this trip so I hadn't printed out any maps and was doing all my finding by following the arrow and taking a punt at road junctions. Finding #2 Yandoit was easy, and then I continued up Yandoit Creek Rd. However, I turned back because I didn't seem to be getting closer. Now that I've looked at a Google map it seems I retreated a moment or so too soon (just before the Glamorgan Rd turn off). Instead I ended up (only my GPSr remembers how) going around a maze of back block roads and approaching GZ along the ridiculously named Park Ave. All I can say is that you may not want to do this if you have a 2WD car. I can't guarantee that the other route is better, but there are some large rocky bumpy bits and washed out sections which might do nasty things to your car's underneath. My Forrester was okay (which is just as well, because I broke my rule of "don't drive forwards over anything you don't think you'll be able to reverse back out over!"), and it got its best workout of what had already been a moderately adventurous couple of days. The bush was very picturesque despite the drought, and the cache was a nice straightforward find and well worth the visit ... whichever way you approach it!!! TNLN and thanks again to The Morris.
Pleasant bush setting and I noticed that considering the lack of rain the trees look healthy. Thanks The Morris
Nice spot in the bush in the early morning. Lots of bird and insect noise. Easy find. Thanks The Morris

Fourteenth of Twenty cache finds for the day, the cache was found at 12:50. An interesting area and a nice quick find, now to get out of here before those banjo players that the coffees encountered came after me. Thanks to The Morris for the cache.

Found a way into gz and once there we found the cache without any problems. Then - back out the same way or not? Tried a different way and was able to watch our progress on the GPS. In the end it was about the same but did give us some interesting views! Thanks The Morris for the fun.

It was unfortunate that our visit here was at night time as in the headlights and what moonlight there was it appeared to be a very attractive location. We pulled up behind the Coffee Clan Mystery Inc and minicacher one and simply followed the gpsr to the cache location.

Deano turned 31 today, so decided a day of caching was in order. None of the other Dudez could make it, so he went solo on the "Big Birthday Bush Bash"
Expecting the locals to be carrying shotguns and pitchforks, was surprised and amazed at some of the old ruins in the area. Drove past the road the that cache was on by accident, but didn't matter as there were more old buildings further on.

Quite a drive from Yandoit #2, for a wagon that is.
My GPS's map was lying to me, so I took what looked like an appropriate track and headed in the general direction of GZ, and after another 'off the map' left turn, soon had the cache in hand.
I thought that I'd continue on past the cache to see where the road came out, but not too far along it made a sharp right hand downward turn that left my wagon's front wheel resting on a large rock that I knew wouldn't clear this vehicle's long wheel base.
Now, reversing a rear-wheel drive wagon with a nearly empty fuel tank up a hill does not provide much traction (or vision), but with the smell of burning rubber in the air, and my 'low fuel: 2km estimated travel distance' warning beeping in my ear, together with a few forward and back rocking movements, I did manage to make a near-blind three-point turn and get the hell of out there and back on to the Yandoit track. Phew.
It's days like these that I dream of owning a 4WD, a post '79 SWB FJ40 2F (6cyl 4.2L) Hardtop to be precise.

Setting out this morning in heavy fog, resulting from the recent marvelous rain we have experienced, we arrived at GZ just as the sun was peeping through and a view of the surrounding hillsides was appearing. This really is a pretty place and the old stone buildings to be seen everywhere are more than worth the trip.
Another easy find, thank you The Morris.
Having owned rural property with pioneer dwellings we can appreciate the attitude displayed around here by the locals.
Not all tourists are benign. Our old buildings suffered from vandalism and pilfering just as we can imagine has occurred around here.
This also affects how we play our game and must be considered both when searching and placing.
We left a Mondo Figurine, (surprise surprise), and a Biro for the cache and took a Caribiner Pen.
Thanks again Robyn, Chad & Geo Girl.
