At 6pm on the way home from camping at Jumna it was a questionable call to make a detour for this one. The other half was uneasy with the drive just as I said na its fine, clunk as the patrol diff hangs up on a rock. Better line choice and made it to cache continuing on to see what the other way was like.
Dropped family off at the heritage museum and set out solo for this one. Our geo-vehicle wasn’t up to the off road component so went on foot from the recommended parking spot. Wondered about the half built house at the starting point. Umm someone’s dream gone wrong. Mid day heat took toll, reminded me again that to bring more water next time. Sat and enjoyed the view at ground zero. Slow walk back. Hats off to anyone game enough to drive this track. Suitable for geo-dogs. Thanks for the experience and the hide.
After very much enjoying our day down in the Herberten Historical Village, which I can really recommend particularly on a slightly rainy day, we were up to get some fitness. At the end of the bitumen road we parked the car as we didn’t feel like risking our only drivable vehicle. Good so, since the rain carved deep trenches into the sand road, but it is obvious that it would indeed be nerve wrecking fun driving up to the cache.
Anyway, on foot we easily overcame all the deep holes and easily made it to the top and back down in 40min. The views up at the top were not particularly great due to the thick clouds and slight rain, but the DT combination for a reg sized cache was certainly worth the effort. Thanks for adding to the caching fun in this part of the world.

Great Northern escape 2022 Day 47. Atherton Day 2. Todays trip was to Herbeton for the LABs and any other caches in the district. There is plenty to see and do in the area if you want to spend the time and money to do so. I really enjoyed the two dirt track caches I did today.
I really enjoyed the trip up here, some nice steep bits but not too hard, and a great outlook over the valley from up the top.
Thanks for the cache bluelens

A nicely stocked cache high above Herbie. Tood dark for an awesome view but a number of lights from the township. Thanks for a 4wding exercise bluelens. Enjoyed it on the way up. Lets see if i can’t make the news on the way down
Holy Dooley! That was a good drive up here, we came all the way from Moss's pool, which took us roughly 3h. The track is washed out, sandy, stony, steeeeeep, wet, muddy (but not boggy) and most of all FUN! Our 24 years old Jackeroo made it without complaints and we practiced some more 4WD skills that we will need for our trip to the tip later this year. Really loved the challenge and the cache is an easy find, in good condition and had some good swaps.

Really really great cache, sort of glad I've done it late afternoon, it's very 'up' on a hot day, but I think I got the best of it, and a few wallabies too. Left tb
An easy drive for Pa once the navigator found the right road. It was the third attempt on my behalf and Pa was getting slightly frustrated. I have to learn to trust Sammi, my phone GPS, and read her more accurately. There was a new track that threw me off. No worries, we made it and my name has been added to the log. TFTC love those D5s.
Staying in Atherton for work. I could not pass up the chance to fill this spot in my grid. I arrived at the parking coordinates well before sunrise but it was no problem because i packed my headlamp. It took me 19 minutes to scoot up the hill and grab the cache and find my way back to the car. I left a TB for the next cachet to pick up. Thanks bluelens. FP for this one.
After more than 6 hours driving from Charters Towers Mr CNQ opted to park and embark on a determined walk/gasp uphill on on overcast afternoon. Cache found, signed and back at the car in about 40 mins, thanks
Fortunately we have the correct vehicle and the correct driver. No worries he said so up we went. I retrieved the cache, the log was a bit damp but signable, and down we came. Great adventure, glad I did not have to walk up here though.
My poor legs. Quite a climb here for me.
I did Atherton ParkRun this morning and decided to spend the day Geocaching.
My car had no hope of ascending this hill.

On a trip through the tablelands (rainforests, figs, waterfalls), I also made a short ride to Herberton. First took the wrong road and try to go up but a 2WD is just not capable of climing up (even though it was a "SUV"). Therefore, I walked the way up and signed the logbook. Nice walk, but quite hot even in spring! Thanks for sharing!
Travelling around Australia using Geocaching as our Tour Guide.
Staying in Walkamin for a few weeks, today we headed out to find a few smilies on country roads.
We discovered some awesome places thanks to Geocaching, including your cache.
LOL funny enough as we approached the turnoff a new VW with traditional Herbie painting passed us heading south. [:o)]
Being aboard the Geocruiser we chose to do this as a driveby.

We took the lazy option and drove to the top, My wife was a bit worried about some of the ruts, but my trusty 'donkey' climbed and climbed and without too much slipping and pretty soon we were getting high with herbie. Thanks bluelens for the challenge. It was great fun!!!
What a great find. I brought my new 200 series 4x4 up here for a run -- what fun. Terrific views too. Thanks.
just in case Chudles tries this one, I did it in 18 mins to run up, find cache, sign log and run back down from the tar. Thanks for the fun.
Today we travelled from Mareeba to Rocky Creek.
We did a tiki tour of the town up the mountain to Herbeton & return.
This was quiet an adventure driving up to GZ. We were rewarded with great views of the area.
Favourite point given.

Sitting in a cafe in the pretty town and planning my travel back home I spotted that this was a T5 cache.
Ok one more before heading south I agreed with my self.
Being tired of walking uphill and also tired of 4WDing I still settled for the later.
But soon the track was too poor for my skills, continued in thongs. As I was a bit up the hill I felt it was a compromise.
Found the cache at good coordinates, not a T5 maybe a T3 depending on your car and 4WD skills. Anyhow now it is logged.
Thanks for the cache

Woohoo!! A new souvenir available for finding a T5 or D5 cache. Our experience tells us that we had a much better chance of getting a T5 rather than a D5 as puzzle caches are definitely not our forte.
A beautiful bright, cool sunny morning in Herberton, a quick look at the track and an equally quick decision to walk instead of drive. The current state of the track looks like 4x4 driving 501 whereby we only attempt 201, maybe 301 if we are feeling very adventurous.
A very pleasant walk, great views and a quick easy find of a nice big dry cache
Many thanks bluelens for a great hide[^][^][^]

Enough of the 4WD'ing already [:o]
I abandoned the geomobile at the parking spot and went for a stroll up the hill in the drizzle
Ah yes !! Exercise [^]
Wonderful stuff exercise, something you don't get while driving up a hill
After 15 minutes of strolling up a rather steep hill, I found meself on top of the ridgeline.
The clouds magically cleared for a couple of minutes and I was greeted with a view of Herbie and a rainbow [^]
A bit of muckiing around later and I had the cache in paw and signed the logbook.
Some of the locals have found the cache while up here looking for a view of their house
I guess most of Herbie know about the cache now, but not exactly where it is
TFTC and good bit of exercise.
I grabbed the "Signal Drives Across Australia" travel tag.

No drive up to the GZ for us. we parked at the posted co-ordinates and walked.
While the path was steep in some parts, the gravel road itself is quite slippery, so good walking shoes are a must.
With several breaks along the way we arrived at the GZ. The GPS took us straight to the hide and after a brief search the cache was located.
As with all Bluelens caches they are made to last. Even though it has been a year since it was last found, the cache and its contents are in great condition.
We took nothing but we did leave a Signal Drives Across Australia trackable to start an Auzzie adventure.
Thanks Bluelens for this cache and to Walter and Ingrid who accompanied us.

On this demanding walk together with Wazza & Kara up the steep and slippery hill we met the Tableland bushwalkers. They were luckier hence they were heading down.
Once being up there we were rewarded by a cache in good condition.
We took a Geocoin and swapped toys.

Would have loved some fun 4x4 driving, but there are limitations to a Terios, this was far toooo steep for my trusty little AWD.
So I walked up - and my iced coffee was still reasonably cold by the time I got to the cache
Now I've seen herberton from two hills, first "A fine specimen" and now this one. Enough exercise for one day.

Not too much puffing getting this cache - we cheated and used our Jeep! I know we needed the exercise but after yesterdays marathon caching effort using our bikes we needed a rest! We very much enjoyed the 4wd trail and followed it through the whole circuit noting many shafts on the way.
After a long walk around the mining musem tracks checking out the history we drove up to this one. TFTC.
Found today with frogstar. No 4WD here, we were 100% shanks's pony! Great views. Cache was fine despite recent fires. TNLNSL. TFTC!
Definitely a 4 wheel drive needed if you want to drive to the top, graded road or not!. Think wandrr may have had too high expectations of their camper, if they had tried it!! Glad they didn't. Great views. TNLN

The road to the cache had been graded just a day or two before. We probably could have driven up the graded road even with our hired motorhome, bald tires and all. Instead, we walked. However, it is easy to see how the road could be MUCH worse after a bit of traffic and some erosion.
Thanks!

Great walk, great views too. Took Green Is tea spoon and left orange crazy bone. TFTC
Great drive in the mighty Cacher. Lost traction on some of the jump-ups but managed to keep the momentum and make it to the top. only dragged the side steps once as the tyres slipped into a gutter. An easy find and then a uneventful return journey even if we couldn't see the road in front of our bonnet.
Warm and a little overcast weather. We like the view. Thanks!

[Ah, the beauty of a fully insured 2WD rental car--you can really put it through its paces.] I hope like hell Hertz are not reading this! Views were worth the clunks, scraps and off-road antics. [TFTC]
We walked this one and it was a little slippery. The fine gravel on the hard base was a little like marbles on the steeper sections. Found the cache without too much difficulty.

We decided to walk this one as were not quite sure what 'fun' 4WDing was going to involve. Quite a walk, but not to hard, found the cache quite easily. I have just read the other logs and noticed that Mike-Fnq managed the drive in two wheel drive, would like to know what he drives. We took the butterfly and left chinese hanger. TFTC
Started to drive up to the cache, but came across a patch of road that was very eroded. As we didn't know if it would get worse, we decided to chicken out and walk the rest of the way. Thanks for the cache. SL. TNLN.
drove the track easily in two wheel drive (much to the disgust of whatsamap) as part of a superb day of 4WD fun
Drove the track up to the cache with Mike-Fnq and friends.
Found cache no problems.
Must come back here one day and see where this track goes.
Great views of the town.

Danielc and Danielv found this one on a beautiful autumn afternoon. I drove up to the top of the ridge, parked the car, put the co-ordinates into the GPS and we set off expecting an easy stroll along the ridge. The climb to the top of the knoll where-on the cache is hidden came as a bit of an ambush, and left me puffing. After that the find was easy. I forgot to bring trade items, and so no trade. I wasn't going to go back for them!! Nice views of the village. Cheers, and Good Hunting. Dan
FTF. While it was wet on the coast and the Tablelands it was dry and very pleasant when we went for this cache.
We give the AWD a workout and drove to the top and to within metres of the cache. Views from GZ are excellent.
Left a Chopper TB to enjoy the heights and Oshndoc's Top 40 coin to enjoy the outback. No other swaps.
Another excellent effort Bluelens, TFTC!
