At last, we have found Geocache No.1. The cache is in perfect condition and what a fantastic view from GZ. Thanks to Allen for placing it and to others who may have maintained it over the years.

Headed out to the Avon Valley National Park with Cravo10 to find two of the states oldest geocaches. Geocache number 1 and geocache number 2 by Nissan.

We had a few others on the radar aswell today throughout the park, but they are a major part of a goal we are working towards in relation to finding the oldest caches in Western Australia.

We had a few false starts at a few different tracks as we tried to get into the quarry to get the unloved, but couldn’t find a way in, so headed straight into the National park and found a few caches and checked out a few of the campsites around which were in great condition. We got some assistance in relation to what tracks to take to get to our goals for the day so we are very grateful for the PAF assistance there.

All in all a great day out and brilliant to find some original logbooks from the very early days of caching in this state.

Thanks to the COs for their hides.

Tougher to get here than number 1 and has better views i believe. A great spot, add FP.

Thanks nissan for placing and maintaining this cache. Out and about with Barnzy12 getting a few smily faces.

Enjoyed the track into here and good to tick off an oldie, have a Fav point

17-Oct-20
Out and about for overnighter in the Avon Valley National Park with some clowns, namely AlliedOz, Kyzabra & SVKR_WA with chickenhawk07 along for the ride as well. We set up camp early at the Valley Campsite and hit the tracks chasing down some oldies and any others that took our fancy.

This one was on my must do list, has been for a while and pleased to be able to cross it off today. Always love these 'old school' hides, they generally bring you to some fantastic locations and this was no exception. A train happened to rumble by down below as the log was being signed. Awarding a favourite.

nissan I found your cache at 10:47am, this was the 4th of 9 finds for me today and brings my total find count to 6335. The cache was in good order and I replaced it as found.

Granett, AlliedOz, Kyzabra and I were keen to plan a camping trip. After much debate the Avon Valley was decided upon.

This morning we all set off with Chickenhawk07 also in tow. First stop was the campground, hoping to get a suitable spot for an evening feed and fire.

We then headed out into the park to grab as many of the surrounding caches as we could. This area is a haven for old caches and these were high on our list for the day.

Have wanted to find this one for some time. Really fleas to have now crossed it off.

Spotted a freight train heading east while we signed the log.

nissan SVKR_WA is happy to have found your cache Geocache No 2 today at 10:48:27 17 Oct 2020. This brings my find count to 4388

nissan - Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment. We love travelling and visiting some places that we would only visit due to this game.

I put out a call with my free days in a chat, after some 2ing and frying it was decided Avon Valley for a quick overnighter. Caching with a majority of the FellowshipOfTheTrail guys to pick up some caches around the area. We set up camp early and then hit the tracks and trails with some oldies in our sights and whatever other caches that made the list.

Today I'm out and about on the trails with FOTT members Granett, Kyzabra and SVKR_WA, tagging along and helping out with the funds is chickenhawk07.

Amazing view

Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache Allan (nissan) you help make this game what it is.

Took a little longer to find then I thought as I was looking for a yellow bucket, this is not the case. Great Monday out exploring the area.

Out for day in the Avon Valley with PP2 being our guests, another day of off road adventures, hiking, slushing and sloshing to find some well worth it smiley’s. The day started off very wet as did we as someone forget our wet weather gear but we pushed through and were rewarded with some beautiful views of the Valley, we put the drone up here as we just couldn’t resist, happy to say we walked away with a much deserved smile on both our dial and device TFTC

Camped overnight at Bald Hill so took the opportunity for an early morning drive out to this old cache Smile Tracks were mostly easy going with the short stick only being needed on a couple of steeper sections. Lovely drive, and some new pinstripes to show for it! Parked up in the small clearing near GZ and then got out to check my bearings. Hmm... can’t see any large rocks... and can’t see any tracks going that way either. Grabbed a hiking pole anyway and headed off towards GZ. Light bush so was pretty easy going and with about 5m to go I finally spied rocks Smile Coords were spot on; as soon as I got to GZ I spotted the container tucked away. I thought my eyes were deceiving me though when I saw the last entry was dated over 3 years ago! But no, it has been that long since a find here. No idea why, it’s a fantastic location. It was also great to see it was an old-school log book where people had actually written comments on the find / adventure. Spent a few minutes sitting reading all those then added my own and put everything back as found. After all this time everything here is still in perfect condition. Very peaceful spot, it was just me and a million flies Smile Probably should have saved this one for a milestone but heck I was nearby and it was awesome anyway Smile A definite fave point awarded - TFTC

After doing 'Boys own' and 'Avon ascent' I cut cross country to come and find this cache. A bit smaller than I was expecting. TFTC.

Staying in Toodyay for a few days to explore the Avon Valley & the surrounds, it was decided that we would head out along the southern side of the river today Smile After finding Geocache No 1 this cache was the next in our sights... We had looked over the maps & had a pretty good idea where to head next, although on the way we got to a bit of a cross-roads wondering what to do next Surprised Not sure if we chose the right option, but after negotiating some steep rocky hills & some huge ruts we eventually fell out into what felt like civilisation Razz

From there our GPSr had us heading in the right direction & we were soon feeling the sense of achievement we felt at the last one [^] That feeling was soon deflating as we got to GZ & the cache did not want to show itself! The temperature was soaring, so Jase continued to search whilst we all took cover in the shade... Then after reading back in some logs we figured that it was not a huge bucket as we were expecting to find [?]

Jase eventually found the cache tucked away & we did wonder for a short while what happened to the bucket, but for now we were just happy to have our names in the book & hopefully getting out of here soon! TFTC nissan Big Grin Yet again we had fun getting to this one, not so much finding it... But it's all good now we have had time to recoup lol Wink Hope to head down the hill next time, but for now we are all out of water & it's getting late in the day...

After a big day yesterday( 10km ride and 15km walk) Jinta29 and I planned another big one for today.

Our Targets : some harder terrains and older caches in the Avon Valley.

Our Mission: to fill in some D/T combinations we were missing.

Our Goals: short and hopefully sweat Smile

We headed off from our camp with a clear goal and plan.

We were planning to walk al the way in to this one but found a path and ended up about 50 metres away with the Sante Fe.

A great view from GZ and we timed it as a train went past.

nissan I found your cache Geocache No 2 on 14/11/2014 1:18 pm. This is my find #2255 and find #9 today. The cache is in good shape. Thanks for the cache!

14-Nov-14
We were able to two wheel drive all the way to this cache Big Grin Our GPS led us on a bit of a merry dance but once they had settled the coords seemed spot on Cool. We love finding these old containers Smile

Kyzabra and I had been caching in and around Swan Valley for a couple of days and today was a day that we decided to target some of the older and more difficult caches to get to nearby!

We had a bit if a plan about which ones we wanted to target and we cemented that plan over a couple of beers last night. A phone call to firnsy (who knows the area pretty well) gave us an idea on some parking options and what sort of terrain to expect.

15-Aug-14
Headed for Firnsy's newest cache, we parked our bikes up against a tree near this one and bashed across to it. It took a while of searching in all the wrong places, until Mrs. O. came up with the find. This could be our oldest ever cache, so thanks for that!

06-Jul-14
Parked about 4 ks away as the crow flies, which was a far as I dared take the geo-Camry on this rainy Sunday, and walked in from there ... a 10 k round trip on the trail ... a little bit frustrating as there was onlu about a 200 metre section of road that I wouldn't have driven. However, it was easy walking and I did enjoy the walk in the relatively light rain. Great views from GZ ... watched a train go past. Had a cup of tea and a sandwich as I took in the scenery.

Signed the log. TNLN. Thanks for the hide nissan aka Allan, Daniel, Bob & Rory

PS. The bag containing the log has perished a bit, but I didn't have a spare as I had used my last one at the previous cache I was at. The cache is dry.

Also noticed that the cache doesn't seem to match the description ... I was looking for a yellow bucket with a red lid, but found something else. Hope it was the cache Smile.

[:(!] Went camping for three days at Avon Valley National Park camping on the south side of the Avon River with geoson (Revolutio Solutio) and his family who has flown from Adelaide, also with geodaughter and her family (Owers Corner) who are from Northam, while we were there we picked up a few caches and this was one of them, parked the geocar as close as possible to GZ (50 meters)and we walked in from there, on arrival at GZ it was a mad scramble who would be the first to discover the cache and in a matter of minutes it was in our hands.

Easy find but getting to the cache was a big slog up the steep hill whilst dad and brother waited around 30 mins for me to return found cache soon on arrival thanks for the great view glad I don't have to do this cache again Smile

After find The Death Star we saw some caches nearby and thought we would explore as Geocache No.1 was closest and had a month year combo we where chasing. Not having a good map as this part was not planned we did not get very close to geocache No.1 but seemed to just drive around the north and then loop back. We did find a side trail after teh homestead that look promising for a while but then the needle started to dript from the road so we stopped and found this one was only 1.4km away and there was a road we had just past which seemed to go in the right direction. So off we headed and an emu guided us for some of the way (he was fast). Got to with in 140m of GZ and parked as the last little section looked a little loose for the 2WD and there was no point risking it. Walked over and found the cache which had not been found for almost 2 years. All is well with the cache. Signed teh log and repalced. TFTC

The 4th find of the morning in Avon Vaelly. We came in from the Wesley Block teen Initiative Cache and the elevation went from 40m - 300+ in about 150m. Few that was one steep incline.

Found the cache easily enough once we were on more level terrain. Absolutely amazing views as we climbed and rested up the side of the valley, would never have been out here if it wasnt for geocaching thanks Wink

So fourth for the day and another lonely cache that hadn't been found for almost 2 years.
This also the first cache found on my new 60Csx GPSr. Easy once Shael6636 stopped 'running' to all the caches...! ;O)
Easy find once we had hiked up almost 290m from the railway line. Should have used the road that was right next to it!!!
Took waterproof matches (but left them on the rock next to the cache so the next cacher is welcome to them!)
Left $5 Singapore.

10-Aug-08
Hiked up from Wesley Block with Shaun where we were doing a "Teen Initiative" weekend. Didn't want to disturb the program so we left at 0650. Found cache before 0740 after a steep walk up the hill. I didn't read all the logs or look at photo's, so was surprised to see how much the bucket had shrunk!!!
Cache is still in good condition, although the sun is beginning to get to the plastic a bit. Found an easier route and returned back to camp before 0830, in time for a well deserved breakfast.

Two years after the last find, the cache is still there and in good order. I believe that most of the access into this area of the park has been restricted to walkers, horses and mountain bikes. (Do not take motorbikes!)
It is a hefty walk and would take the day. (I was lucky and know one of the local landowners.)
Took: WA Key Ring & Key Ring Torch.
Left: Biro & Survival Matches

Nice morning stroll out in the company of Papa_Bear_Left, my first sojourn with the newly aquired GPSr. Bit different not having to do an hour's prep work before setting off for a cache, just follow the magic arrow but a bit of a shock when it(arrow) turned 180 degrees just short(about 25m) of what I thought was GZ. Stupid thing stopped me in my tracks until I decided to continue forwards anyway and see if it would make up it's electronic mind, glad to say it did. Told P_B_L we were looking for a yellow bucket with a red lid, that's about all I could remember from the cache page and I didn't have any printouts, so again was rather surprised when he picked up a glass bottle with a purple lid saying it had shrunk. I remember reading that L,P&N had replaced one of these caches but I thought it was the other one. (oops)

This was going to be part of a hike through the park but unfortunately I twisted my knee just before arriving at the cache. It also didn't help that I am getting over a bout of flue that apparently has taken more out of me than I thought.

The cache was not immediately visible and there is a lot of undergrowth around GZ hiding loose rocks and although I had a reasonable look I decided that I should head back to the car.

This area is not one that should be attempted when not in good health. It took about 1hour 20 to get to the cache and nearly 3 hours to return with the last 800 metres taking most of that as it was steep.

27-Aug-05
(Papa Bear had a day out with NobodyZ)
This seemed like quite a long walk at the time, but by the time we'd got back to car some hours and two other caches later, this seemed almost adjacent to where we'd parked!
I found the cache fairly quickly, although it seems to've shrunk! (N did the planning, so I hadn't read any cache descriptions or logs, and so hadn't seen LP&N's replacement notice)
A packet of tissues was very welcome as I'd forgotten a hanky, and I left a B_L LED torch in its place.
Then, rather than walk along the track down to the river, I talked N into going straight over the edge. At the bottom, he was given permission to slap me if I made any other suggestions that silly...

South Break is now closed off. Leaving a 5KM trek, unfortunately did not have the time on this trip.

Found this one after we had a play in the rain Big Grin (don't worry no children or small furry animals were harmed in the process)
Great area for a drive through the bush so many tracks not enough daylight.
Took - Lightstick
Left - Keyring Mirror and Calling Card.
Thanx for the mud and hunt Allan, Daniel, Bob and Rory.

Tried to find this one last year, but alas it was gone. Poof vanished!. But thanks to fellow Goecaches it has been replaced by another cache. The co-ords are spot on, and I found it with no problems. However it not an easy cache to get to. There is track which turns off to the left a couple of Kilometres into the park, then follows a firebreak. Just follow you GPS from there. I did however find another way in. Coming from Perth along Toodyay Road then turn off onto Dryandra Road, then on to Louisa Circle, then on to Wallaby Road. About half a kilometre along Wallaby Road as you go around a bend there is a track off to the left, Just follow your GPS from there. Not easy but it will get you there. Anyway took nothing from the cache, but left blue plastic fish.

We agree with the previous attempted find that the cache was indeed missing in action. We replaced the container with a new one that will do the trick. It isnt big but it will be waterproof and should be safe where we hid it. We tried to stay as close to the original location as possible so you should check our photos and find the split rock where it is located. We think you should have no problems as our GPS was showing us somewhere between 0 and 2 metres most of the time from the cache site. We didnt have a great deal of things to place in the cache so its just a zip lock back, log book, glow bug fishing thing, pencil and stubby holder. Lucky we come prepared. We logged it as a find because we feel that replacing it is a fair swap. If anyone feels agreaved just tell us and we will delete it as a find but we think it seems like the right thing. The drive in was interesting and not too hard while its dry up here but we think it could get slippery in the wet. We managed to get the wiper blade bent on a tree branch but it straightened out without too much drama. You could do both this cache and Number 1 cache at the same time and it would be a nice afternoon to do it on your mountain bikes. the coordinates given in a previous log for a turnoff off the main road were just perfect so make sure you use them if you go by 4WD...then just follow your nose or GPS. Great location...and its up and running again so feel free to spend the time to find it...and restock it.

Second cache for the day after doing Geocache No 1, but this one eluded us. We hunted around the rocks for over half an hour, and I'm sure we covered the whole area but couln't find this one. We kept covering the same ground so decided to give up in the end. On the up side it was a great view down accross the valley. rechecked the photos of the cache when I got home, and I have a funny feeling about this one!
