Cache was found after a short walk in the scrub. Interesting bits of plane. It landed hard. Very hard.Freddo and e.gregory1 were heading up the middle of Australia following Stuart's well trodden route. We were travelling in air conditoned comfort and style. No stale food. No camels to carry water. We were leaving the cold winter for the northern season.Today was the day to find this cache. Today is the sixth day of Augustus Caesar's Month in the wonderful year of twenty twenty four. We found your cache container and added some inky stuff to the paper sheet or note pad you have supplied for a log book or scroll. The cache container and log book or scroll were in good condition. It was so hot. No wind today. With the log signed and the cache replaced it was time to leave. Onwards to the next cache. Woot, that is not to far.I would like to show my respect and acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the Land, and their continuing connection to it. I wish to pay my respects to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures; and to Elders past, present and emerging.I will apologize right now, because everything from here on is here solely for the purpose of padding the word count and winning that one hundred word diamond badge again. Somebody moved the goal posts. So many caches to find. So many caches to log. We find them, sign them and replace them. This particular geocache was found using one of the following GPS enabled devices, Garmin GPSr, Montana 680t, Oregon 650 or Dakota 20 and an Apple iPhone 11 using the marvelous Cachly app. Waypoints and paperless geocaching were downloaded via GSAK 9. Log prepared, checked and submitted using GSAK publish logs macro.Warning, this hobby can be addictive. It can lead to exercise, meeting new people and finding interesting places you might not have known existed otherwise. Beware: you may have fun. Apologies for the generic part of the cache log. We do apologise for the generic logs. Thanks to all the cache owner for placing this cache here for our enjoyment. Thanks for the cache. Merci la cache. Danke fr den Cache. Gracias por el cach. Found on a trip from Adelaide to the top end with Freddo for a few weeks. After checking out the wreckage we wandered over to GZ for a quick find. Cache container and contents were in good condition. Thanks Groboz for the cache.
After walking in soon found a SPOR, added another log sheet. Stamped log and replaced. Thanks to Sad history RIP.
A caching trip from Canberra, ACT to Cape York, Qld and then around the gulf to East Arnhem Land, NT.Now with a detour to Thursday Island, Mabuiag Island, Mornington Island and finally along the Savannah Way through Hells Gate, then Nhulunbuy and Wadeye.TFTC. An interesting piece of history and a nice walk.
After looking at the wreck, it was across to the cache. Quite long grass but easy enough to move through. Of course, get to GZ, and its all burnt, revealing a well hidden cache in its exposed location with it burnt all around. If only they had burnt a path to the cache, too!
OCW PelDroedGwin and geodog Peppa Heading to Mandorah today, caching along the way.An interesting place to visit. After touring the wreckage we turned our attention to the cache No burn off this year and we didnt fancy 120m through that elbow high grass. So its a Did Nit Attempt rather than a DId Not Find.
Amazing to explore the nearby wreck and read about the history herr. Another place we wouldn't have visited if it weren't for geocaching. Tftc
Travelling with richlink on a trip from Perth to Darwin and return. Today, we are riding Route34 looking for scenery, history, and caches. It's a chilling piece of history here. Thanks Groboz.
In Darwin with iluvtrekking for a revisit after eleven years. Beautiful weather and a great day to be out caching. Headed to the Cox Peninsula to do the Route 34 series and others along the way. Tragic holiday here but a quick find if the cache. Thanks for the hide.
This was a great find in more ways than one, thank you so much for bringing me here, we spent a bit of time looking at the Liberator and reading the history.
This trip was sort of in place of a trip to a Mega that got canceled due to accommodation problems, I was quite happy when Goose said do you fancy to caching break in the Northern Territory as this would be the last State or Territory for me in Australia.
Our plan was to fly into Darwin on the Friday night have a couple days in the area then start heading South stopping overnight whenever we needed to, our next goal was the drive to the geographic centre of Australia at Lambert Centre and then head back to Alice to fly home ten days later.
We both had a great trip finding some important old caches, large ones and the odd clever one too, we found Ammo Cans all over the place which was nice as i think we have found most of the ones at home in Tassie.
Thanks for the cache.

We took a respectfully quiet walk around the wreckage and reading the information boards. Once we'd soaked it all in we wandered off to find the cache.
Thanks Groboz
Our Northern Territory journey began in Darwin around 3am after a very delayed flight. We drove as far north as Fresh Water Camp (northeast of Darwin), followed by a loop to Liberated Cox (out to the west) and Litchfield National Park returning to Darwin. We then headed south with overnight stops at Katherine, Daly Waters and Devils Marbles before reaching our southernmost accommodation at Erldunda. From here we did a day trip to Lamberts Gravitational Centre on onward past Finke. Our last couple of days were in Alice Springs with a side trip via Hermannsburg and Glen Helen, all up covering just under 3800km. My thanks to all the COs with hides throughout the territory for helping make our trip so enjoyable.

GPS was very jumpy to start with but got there in the end. Thanks for bringing me to this place. Very interesting. TF to C
Today we went for a drive to explore out the Wagait Beach area. We were surprised that cache was still there after the burning off in the area. Interesting history, information and viewing of old plane crash. TFTC
This one was tricky until we read the previous log about some soft rocks.
Out caching with Irondale today and we decided to go all the way from Darwin CBD to wagait beach. I had made a list of caches starting from berry springs which was closed for swimming unfortunately up to the wrecked plane west of wagait.
It was a successful day with all but two caches found.
This one was found ok. TFTC

We parked the car back on the road and came for a flat, dry, hot walk in to GZ.
We began by searching out the Liberator and reading all the information signs about the history of this plane, and it’s unfortunate demise.
A very sad story, as it was not even bombed down, and the actual cause of plane failure or pilot error is not confirmed.
After taking time in this area, we went on to search for this Hide, and soon had the log in our hands. An about face and we begin the journey out again.
Thanks Groboz

Found at 4:07:00 PM(t) GAFF - not that the hint helped much as the area has been "cleansed" by fire and there is nothing that could be seen that fitted the clue.
Eventually found a pile of soft rocks that looked like they could hide a cache and they were right on GZ and when one of the rocks were moved - there was the cache! Amongst a heap of burnt out grass.
So many wrecks around tis part of the world and nearly all are due to training exercises!
Thanks Groboz.
Feedback: The hint needs to be updated.

We decided to stay at Wagait Beach last night with ilook4geo and continued the caching this morning as we headed off again. We found all the caches we looked for this time and were pleased to find that maintenance had been done recently on some by fellow cachers. Thanks go to Groboz for placing this cache. All was in good order here.
The caching hunt went on today with goignplaces2 as we headed towards Darwin. It was an interesting time with some easy finds and some finds that took quite a bit of walking to get to GZ. All logs were signed and returned to place. TFTC.
Wow wow wow!!
Totally amazing to see all of this out here
Thanks for the history lesson
A great trip out in the remote areas of the Northern Territory.
We enjoyed all the back tracks to get to this one, this is why we we enjoy geocaching, it gets us out to these rather interesting places.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful Bush location.

With some time to kill SJG66 and I dumper the camper at Tumbling Waters and headed up the Cox Peninsula to do this series. Thanks for bringing us here. The view of Darwin over the water was well worth it. TFTC.
Found with GrimRaider on our trip to Lichfield NP. Interesting spot and great memorial display.
Thanks for hiding this cache Groboz

Thank you for bringing me to such an interesting story and history. It was nice to be able to pay respect to those at this sad time event. Great hide too. Cheers

Last of the day as we head back to Darwin.
Such interesting history of our past. To be able to visit this site and reflect on this tragic event is very special. With the area around the site burnt we were hoping the cache would be ok.
At GZ we found the cache in good condition. Log signed and all back safe again.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache.

Found. Advice: Make sure you leave some markers or take note of landmarks/trees to get yourself from the cache GZ back to the crash location! Thanks for putting a cache here. Lest we forget
Went fro a last geocaching drive while still in Darwin, I found this one while in the area. TFTC.
Glad to see this ticked off.
On my own bashing through the grass.
Made some friends with green ants.
Visited 3 TB.

Found on my 3 day downunder on this trip and the 2nd day in NT, Driving out west to....
This was pretty easy gps was playing up but once we were about 10 meters we just did a few loops and found there is a very clear “over here look at me” marker few swaps.
Had a look at the wreckage here and went looking for the geo. Unfortunately the FPS was jumping all over the place and we just couldn’t find it today.
Found after visiting nearby plane wreck. No pen with me so scrawled name on log with a bit of charcoal found nearby. 2 old batteries in the cache appear to be leaking!
Today Pa was incredible - chauffeuring me along Cox Peninsula Road as we continue our wandering around northern Australia after attending the Red Centre Experience in Alice Springs over Easter. I had planned on hunting for 20 caches and managed to find them all plus an extra that I really didn't think was a possibility. Some were quick DIDOs, others were absolutely mind blowing in that they took so much patience to find and others took us to the most amazing areas teaching us history that we were never taught in school.
Many thanks to all the COs who have placed any of these caches for us to find and enjoy. My name was added to the og as either Smittengranny, stamped or as SG in the small logs to save space.
TFTC. Found on a late afternoon visit to Mandorah with a detour to view the crash site. A sobering reminder of the sacrifices made by the WW2 aircrew. Cache was an easy find aftwr a 140m stroll through the bush from the crash site.
Good 20min walk (each way) from road. No 4wd at the time beautiful sight and history
After abit of a wander in the burnt bush we were starting to wonder if the cache survived the burn off and suddenly there it wat TFTC
Still travelling NT after the Red Centre Experience but now moving towards Birdsville in QLD for the Big Red Bash. Staying overnight at Tumbling waters so a day out exploring the Cox Peninsula today.
Your cache was found in good order.
Love these places that Geocaching shares wit us. Fave for the historic location.

Really enjoyed strolling around this historical site and reading all about the plane and its history. It was good to see that the site has been preserved for future generations. It is a legacy to all those who fought and perished during WW2 protecting our country. TFTC
After nursing our town car down the track we were thrilled with history of this site and paid our respect to the US airmen who lost their lives. Geohubby found the cache - all in good order. Thank you for bringing us to this spot Groboz.
After verifying that it was indeed a short stroll from the crash site i found the actual cache container just before the afternoon storm rolled in .
Wonderful site I wouldn't have otherwise visited, thankyou very much.

Nice quick find thank goodness as it was extremely hot out there today. Really interesting site, thanks for placing the cache here.
Today we had a big day of caching along the Cox Peninsula Road into Mandorah and beyond.
Bear is a bit of a plane spotter so this cache was right up his alley. The find was made quickly so we were able to spend some time looking around the remains of the aircraft.
Thank you for bringing us to this historic location.

Found it!!! Out and about with my GF Kym's Adventure we planned to do A big cache run today and headed out to do the Cox Peninsula Road collection including the Mandorah region. We could have had them all done but car troubles made us come up short!
What a great site from history TFTC!!!

tricky driving in 2wd by BF DeFCoN_6, definitely wouldn't try this in the wet without a 4x4! Parked the car and headed in the last 100mtrs on foot. Today's mission is to cache the Cox Peninsular Road. BF DeFCoN_6 & I depart home @ 6:20am to make a day of it. It's not a competition (who am I kidding - YES it is!). Thx Groboz
Today we explored Cox Peninsula and surrounds using geocaching as a guide. An interesting site, so much war history in this area, adding to our favourites.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment.

Another great location, back for another visit after the caches relocation. Cache container was big enough to leave a few AA batteries. Hard to forget a spot like this and the reason for it.
After a short bushwalk we located the cache, a very interesting spot lots of history
Took a little searching but eventually found it in the most logical place. GPS was off by a couple of metres.
Found GZ, and the remnants of what looked like a cache, but has been devastated by bush fires. Replaced cache (hope that is ok) as didn't want our South African friend to miss out on a smiley after the great distance she had travelled. Thanks for bringing us out here. Had known about the site for some time, but took a cache to get us here!
Spent the day in Mandorah and Waiget Beach, had several set to find. I think the Muggles of Mandorah were against us...because...
when we arrived, there were muggles there, more arrived. When they left, sent geohub into the scrub, he was gone for ages... more muggles arrived, I had to wait for them to leave before I could give geohub a cooee to find him. way off course, but dnf.
Wombat the Anthus laptop Geocoin visited, as did Runcible's Grasshopper, a Slovak Geocoin 2012, doc marten, and a man and his dog, a moose and a mammoth who wants to see sheep

On tour from Melbourne to Darwin and beyond using our fantastic game as a self guided tour .
This was the Wow factor of the trip and spent time here and took many pics .
In Werribee they are rebuilding the same plane for a static display with running engines ( also is a cache there .
A fav point for sure !!
Thankyou for your cache contribution as it made for a memorable road trip - tftc .

Certainly an unfortunate event. The site is well signed with all the history. We headed north on a little geo trail which stopped and started a bit but the bush is fairly open so we soon got to GZ and after a bit of a search we made the find. We completed the signing duties and re hid. TFTC

Thought we would leave camp early today & travel Route 34 picking up caches as we go.
This was one of the best sites of the day, we are pleased that you have bought us to this location.
There is lots to learn about the flight & following incident. Numerous pieces of aircraft laying around
Worth a favourite point
Thanks Groboz

An amazing place to find a cache
There is so much of the plane still lying around and it makes for a good wander and wonder about the circumstances that got it here
Most of the fuselage and engines seem to have been removed, but what is left is instantly recognisable to us aircraft afficionados [^]

This was our 1st cache find in the caching run & we found it at 10:35
So this now makes our total find count 6824.

We've been to Darwin before, but have never headed out this way. We spent a really enjoyable day on the Cox Peninsula today, and found a variety of caches.
Not all wartime deaths are caused by enemy action!

Coordinate Accuracy: Excellent (Around 2 metres).
Cache Condition: Container and log book are in good shape.
Took: Nothing.
Left: Car.
Thanks Groboz for the hunt today.
