i wanted to go for it and accept the challenge my partner in crime was against my decision. As she had consumed a beer or two before we began the walk here i decided that if i required a rescue party she would not be much help and i also didn't wanna hear i told you so for the rest of our holiday. I made a decision not to climb but walked away believing i could have done it and have decided i will return with a more supportive cheerleaders, Challenge accepted I will be back
I had a good scout about with this one looking for a way up to GZ. I thought I spied a path up to the north of the black cliff, so up I ventured. Once I'd got up about 10m or so, I found the way blocked. The climb down was more harrowing actually. It is a great place and I loved the chance to explore the richly dynamic environment. Thanks for the chance to look about. Sadly, no luck on this one.
We had been for a drive up the beach from Baylys this morning to visit the Heritage NZ plaque at Moremonui which commemorates a famous Maori battle (that would have been a really good spot for a cache!) On the way back I decided to keep going south and have a go at this one Stopped close to the waterfall and after a bit of reconnaisance to find a suitable way up, I managed to make my way to GZ without any issues. Was a bit disgusted to see that someone had taken a dump within just a few metres of the cache, but hopefully this will disappear naturally within a short period. Found the well-hidden cache after a short search. The logbook is pretty wet but fortunately I have a pen that writes very well on sodden paper and this worked a treat. This is one spot where an ammo can container would be very appropriate, then there would be no problems. Ice cream containers just aren't up to it! I always enjoy these caches with a bit of extra effort required to reach them. Signed log, thanks for the cache and for bringing me here, its worth a favourite point.
Very lucky find. Not on the obvious track. It was buried so only found by stepping on it. T4tc
(1636) Found with Mattuc and Twe3ty after an afternoon trip to the West coast. Spent quite some time hunting for this cache before Matt occidentally stood on it. It was well buried under a couple of inches of sand. Log was very wet, so wrote in pencil in the log. Cache is now on the surface under a flax 1 metre above the grassy track. TFTC
Nice walk down the beach, bit of a climb and it took some time for GTWorks, Matttuc76, and myself to find. T4tc.
It is a T4!!!! not a park and grab, be prepared to make your own way up. It is perfectly achievable.
I searched a lot, but did not find. Then I had an other look on the logs and saw that last found was in November but one year ago. There is not much left of a track here.
If the coords are really accurate, maybe some maintenance is helpful here.

Travelled throughout the North with crispyhaugio and we managed to geocache around. TFTC.
Trip through the beautiful Northland and geocaching wherever possible. Thanks to all the cacheowners for shwoing us (Pandabär13 and me) these great places. Cool climb up the cliffs Left my TB stamp (only to discover) in Logbook.
This was a pretty dam hard one to find, tucked nicely under flax.

'HOUSIE' Found it!
Came here on Sunday, walked the 2km with my son and his girlfriend. We climbed up the track and I must say it was indeed more like a track that a path! Thanks for the hint to hold on to flax and pull yourself up, this is exactly what we did. Mind out you don't grab hold of cuttey grass instead of the flax, as I did, OUCH! On Sunday we knew that we were very close but time ran out and we needed to go back down. Today I returned with my friend and together we climbed that same track and this time my friend found it. The cache is tucked away well out of the weather. The log is dry and all OK I left the tracking Bug 3HTE9H Marchenhaft - fairytale, along with Housie number 'goodbye teens - 19. This was my most challenging cache yet. TFTC

What a beautiful spot on Baylys Beach. We drove right up to the spot and then made our way up. \
Thanks!
Thanks!
Havent been to Baylys Beach for a long long time. So with a nice afternoon on offer, decided we would come up from Glinks, by road, to try for this cache. Scaling the terrain was no problem albeit rather wet, and then the problems started. The path never came to a dead end. And there were so many potential paths to choose from and flax everywhere. Some bits very overgrown. GPS was okay, tried all sorts of elevations, but just had no luck after a 40min search to come up with the goods. Eventually had to come back down to beach level, rather gutted not to make a find . Enjoyed trying for this cache all the same, and some fab views.
I managed to scramble up to this cache but with my problem with heights I certainly didn't want to look down while I was standing up.
Cheers for the cache.
Cheers for the cache.
Took a bit of looking. Eventually decided to stop for a bit to let the gps settle down, looked left and there it was
cache contents were pretty soggy - ice cream containers sometimes not so waterproof
Was getting hot and the 2km walk was seeming a bit daunting but as it turned out the sand was perfectly OK today for 2WD acess so we drove right down to the falls. All 4 of us scrambled up and lucked on the cache pretty quick.Amazing spot, thanks for bringing us here. T4TC

Used this cache as the destination for my morning beach walk. Nice view from GZ. TFTC!
Caught the tide out and enjoyed a invigorating walk down the beach. Flax for africa but found after a few minutes looking. Cache is in good order. Thanks!
Nice day for a drive along the beach. Good climb with beauti views.Cache in hand shortly after as co ords are spot on and cache was sitting out in full view. Hubby has placed back in the Flax, Flax and yes more flax. Dropped in geo coin. Cache a little wet but sorry as not a thing to dry out with. Maybe next find could help out as great spot thanks.
We were able to drive to within 30 metres of the cache and then the fun started. Then terrain rating was correct. Straight up a near vertical sand dune.I found the cache but I do not know how.The coords were very close.Thanks.
This was a nice walk on the beach….and there were no other people around. This was a real good experience to see such a huge beach and some good waves. The way to the cache then required some good footwear.

A great walk and a very nice cache, difficult to find, but good to have found
The cliffs are pretty and we enjoyed the afternoon in the sun. Thanks a lot for this one!

TFTC Jens-Kuno

The location of this cache is no longer as nice as it once was, the track to GZ has almost dissapeared completely.

Searched high and low, pretty sure we had the right spot, but to no avail. So many flax bushes, is it still here?
Thanks anyway tho, awesome spot, great view from top.

Temporarliy disabled untill I can check and improve it a bit, or give up and archive it.
11.45am. Happened to be returning the 4wd up north so detoured along the beach to this cache. Arrived at GZ and searched...and searched....and searched amongst the flax. No luck. Tide looked as if it were coming in so thought discretion the better part of valour in these circumstances. Will come back another day.
Thanks for the opportunity to try, Pooke.

The boys were going quadbiking on the beach this morning, which left me free to go caching! Fantastic beach and a beautiful morning to be walking along it. The boys stopped off on their way by and were having a great time. They had to leave me as I started the climb, as the bikes had to be returned to the campsite. Off I went and after initially going a little too high, I soon found the right path and those coordinates were excellent, thanks! Dropped off Downhill Biker TB then scrambled back down to the beach. SL. TFTC.
9 times out of 10 when at Baylys, we surf the banks in front of the waterfall.... but this time da boyz wanted to park at & surf the main B-bar. meh... so me & the dawg walked down the beach to Black Cliff; did the required climbing, started cursing, but trying best to remind oneself of all the virtuous properties of Phormium Tenax
Turned around to admire the view, and noticed a nice clean wave peeling off! So flagged the search, hoofed it back and scored a nice barrel and one of the waves of the day, a nice peeling 3 footer. Woohoo!!
Have to try again another day, TFTC anyhow. Been to the waterfall many times, but never went up there for the view.

Found this on the way back from a Whangarei 4WD Club event to Pouto lighthouse with Pooke & Grobyc. An awesome day out with seals, quicksand & one Suzuki rollover on the muddy rutted track (not us!) The cache may have been a problem with the start of the track being washed away, but with some inside knowledge & direction had it sorted. TFTC
We first checked out the surroundings by quad bikes. That was quite fun! The first seeking attempt ended without a found, but we came back and finally found the container at 0! There was another path missleading us first... TFTC!
Lovely walk down the beach to this cache. The cache was in a spot with muggles right below. Heaps of puffa fish and jelly-fish on the beach.
Nice stroll along the beach as our rental car wasn't 4 wheel drive, well hiden cache, quite a few muggles at this spot. TNLN TFTC.
found without any problems, was more worried about getting stuck, not the normal sorta of vehicle to drive to the cache in
Well this time i got it must have been nearly sitting on the site last time beautiful spot.

3.30pm. YEE HA got the FTF........haven't had one of these for a while as the competition in AK is stiff.
Came in from Glinks Gully via the beach. Co-ords were spot on except we missed the track first time and in the bush crash to GZ Banjo very nearly stepped on the cache.
Not a lot of people out as the wind was blowing a gale and the rain squalls were coming thru about every 20mins.
There were some locals checking their shot guns on the beach and firing rounds into the dunes.
After finding the cache were drove up the Baylys exit and had a beer at the Funky Fish.

My GPS directed me 2.06 k down the beach then about 50 meters into the bundi,When it said 2meters I started looking one and a half hours later and 1742 f bushes later i gave up as i had a plane to catch, pity as it would have been my 100.
But thankyou for bringing me to such a nice piece of Northland.
I will be back.
