Logs
We parked back near the main road and tackled the first obstacles which was the barb wire fence. Once on the other side we made the hike in, we made the mistake of once spotting the river bed trying to walk along it. The soft sand become pretty taxing, so we headed back to the bank and kept moving towards gz. Once there, we took a few pictures and then started our search search for the cache. We searched for about five minutes and because we hadn’t read the previous logs we were unaware the coordinates were a little out. We looked around for likely spots and headed straight to where the cache was. We added our names to your log and returned your cache back to where it lives. Now for the hike back to the car in the dark with no moonlight for assistance. Navigating the barb wire fence in the pitch black was interesting lol. TFTC explorer59
So pleased to finally find this one with axell33. We have looked at it from afar many times now but there was always something that didn’t suit as we had to walk our way in! We drove up from Perth, checking our caches on the way. So after we finished our business in Marble Bar, we decided today was the day! We did it the difficult way in as axell33 explained until we got out of the river and followed the cow track. We had a few curious onlookers, hard to know what they thought of us! Made it to the siding and took some pics before we lost the light and started to search. This took a little while until we changed to the right gz. Made the find, loved the views and the country, job done! Back to the car in the dark with no problem following the track this time. Glad to see the car, and I think we made good time! A favourite for me cause I’m so happy we now have a smiley for it! Cheers explorer59.
Absolutely amazing to follow the old rail line around the old coogan siding. Wonderful find
Thank you for the track and history

If I could give a million favourite points it would go to this cache for more reasons that I can ever list here.
We were camped at nearby Coongan Pool with our son enjoying the beautiful river and surrounds. Ian suggested that our son take me in his Troopy to find this cache which was only 3.5 kilometres as the crow flies away. We had a good idea of which nearby track to take so set off about three in the afternoon. All was going well, we soon arrived at GZ. I had to read previous logs but upon doing that it was fairly obvious where 20 metres away would be and off I went through the spinifex. The cache was soon in hand and luckily our son had caught up and was there to open the slightly rusty lid. Imagine my surprise and delight when I spotted a slightly weathered Subaru cap as I recently purchased a little XV for myself! I just had to take it and after three washes it looks like nearly new and will be worn with pride and treasured. Thanks.
Then the rest of the adventure started! After walking around the area, checking out the old tanks, strolling down to the river and hearing a kookaburra call and reminiscing about how times must have been "back then" we hopped back into the Troopy and instead of turning around decided to follow the old rail trail. Perhaps not necessarily a great idea as the daylight starts to fade around 5pm but at the time we thought the track would lead back to the Marble Bar road and it did after a little climbing over rubble etc which was fun and there was a lot to see. Anyway.... We reached the main road and technically were only a couple of kilometres from camp BUT.... there was a fence in the way! Not to be deterred we decided to follow the fence line thinking there might be a gate or at worse we would end up at Coongan Pool still inside the fence. After much driving I can tell you following the fence isn't the best move as you can get really, really close to the track into Coongan but as the hill comes down to meet the road there is huge boulders which go for about 50 to 100 metres which cannot be transversed in a 4WD. We tried several times to call up Ian on the two way to let him know we were all ok as it was getting late by this stage. Our only way out was back where we came and we knew it was going to take a while to get back to camp.
All went fine and we did arrive back as the sun was setting, we expected to find a worried Ian and was surprise that he didn't seem the least bit bothered. He thought we had found the cache and then gone into Marble Bar! hmmmm.... he could have been at least a little concerned on his wife and sons welfare.
Loved the history of this cache and everything about the adventure, made even more special in that it is the first time our son who is now 34 has been camping with us since he was a teenager growing up in the Pilbara. So many great memories were made for me. thanks again.

Using my geosense, i had the cache found in good order. Was out here 5 years ago, boy how the spinny has grown. Tftc
Found while camping nearby. As per previous, the co-ords are about 20m out but the cache site is easily seen from the track. Plenty of water in the river a little further down the track. TFTC.
After our Parisian trip in the first week of the Easter holidays, we (i and my husband Voske1967) went for 3 weeks to the other side of the world to enjoy the friendly atmosphere, food, landscapes and culture of Australia. Of course, geocaches were also searched for and found in Perth, Monkey Mia, Denham, Newman, Port Hedland ... . This trip downunder will stay with us for a long time! It was pretty hot in Australia for the autumn season
Enjoyed the drive in over some of the rockiest terrain you could imagine. Saw a group of pelicans in the river and stopped to take a photo or two. As others have mentioned, the co-ords are a bit out so made a waypoint for future finders. I only took one reading, so even these may be a bit off, but not by 20 mts.

After dropping off the van in Marble Bar, we retraced our steps back here to find this cache. The drive in was good, but definitely a 4WD track. Negotiated our way around the rocky outcrops and soon reached the old siding. Cache was a quick find, thanks to previous cachers who mentioned the coordinates being out by approx. 20metres. Thanks for bringing us to this historical spot, which we enjoyed exploring and TFTC
Wouldn't have found this without the hint and that fact that a previous finder stated that the coordinates were out by about 20 metres. Still gets a favourite from us though.
#108
Had another drive-by today, this time with better attention to previous logs (and photos taken ).
At the GZ realized that coordinates are off by somewhat 20 meters - well, according to my Garmin GPS...

Dropped by for a quick find on the way to Bonnie Downs station. Perhaps, didn't have enough time for a better search.
Will need to try again sone time soon.

What an interesting drive into this cache, the scenery is amazing still for this time of the year. As we had opted to enter the track on the east side our journey came to an abrupt end when we encountered a washaway near the old water tanks. But did not despair as we were within walking distance of the cache.
Easily found, took nothing and left a Roorider Pathtag. TFTC

This is what caching is all about to me.
A piece of history, in an out of the way spot, that I had no idea existed.
TFTC and a favourite point from me.

Been to Marble Bar a few times and never knew about this old railway line. Thanks for bringing me here.
Tried to get through with 2wd but unable to make this one stopped after 2Kms before cache.
Explorer59 take a bow!
This is a fav 4 sure
What a great spot will try and down load a picture but this truly was a great day of caching made especially great by this cache.
Left a torch bottle opener.
Took plenty of photos had lunch and left very happy.
These places are loaded with history which was passed on by a couple of blokes who just happened to pass by, in a word WOW.
Quartz reef is a good clue too

WOW, What a great spot. This is why we brought a 4x4, it takes us to great spots like this. Could NOT get there in 2WD. Stopped off and had lunch here along the old railway track Water below us, rocks above us, just a lovely spot. Thanks for taking us there explorer 59
TFTC Left golf ball.

Great little spot. Found while camping at Doolena Gorge. Has to disturb the residents to log our visit. Took shackle - exactly what we needed. left Crc lens cleaner. Thanks for bringing us here
Co-ords 10-12m off, but follow the description to Quartz blow and you will succeed.

Tftc...beautiful spot. Took play coins & toy frisbee. Left Canadian loonie, pen, and necklace, and two canada pins.
Another lovely spot in the bush for a picnic. Lots of gorgeous water that the dog enjoyed thoroughly! The cache could use a few good treasures for children. TFTF
Never would have expected that this place existed. A family was having a swim in the swollen river nearby, they really must have wondered why anyone would stop in middle of track here! Interesting area. GPS wasn't spot on, but hint helped us find it. TNLN. TFTH.
Tricky access without a 4WD but a good find.
Made for a great day out.
Would be spectacular with water in the river.

Went with Robinhood 58. Good drive in, soft roader will be fine going in from the Marble Bar end, otherwise best to use 4wd due to angles. Interesting area to poke around in too.

An interesting area to have a look around even though it was very hot. The description helped us find the cache without any problem. TNLN. Thanks explorer59
Good cache with a great history. Only a few kilometres from a good camping spot.

Thanks for the cache - even thought we couldn't find it! It was a great detour off the main road. We found the rainwater tanks and looked around the location co-ordinate and decided that we couldn't pull out all the spinifix! Unfortunately we only had the co-ordinates and not the description and the log saying it was visitied on July 5. Never Mind.
We came in from the Coongan gap area and followed the tracks to the cache location. The 1:250,000 maps we have in our GPS show the track continue most of the way back to the road but stopping at a creek. We were towing a Jayco pop top and drove onto the creek/washout and found we could get over the creek. It was an interesting detour depsite not finding the cache.

Have visited this spot many times before but never knew what was beyond the main tourist route. A really nice spot. It was great to get off the beaten track from all the tourists. The coordinates were way out but was obvious where to look via the description. Took some great shots just down side of the cache looking up at one of natures beautiful tree formations. Thanks for showing us some history of the area and this lovely hidden spot. T: platypus, L: chess board and piece.
Found whilst on holiday in region. We love the caches with a background of an almost forgotten era.

Parked at track junction and walked the 3k to the cache. 40 degree heat and heaps of flys. why do i do caching in summer ?
Easy find when you follow the discription.

I find it amazing how people even know that these remote off the beaten path places exist.
This area would be very pleasant during the wet season with the river flowing but today the stagnant water that remained in the river didn't look very appealing.

We took a bit of time to work out what track to take to the cache we started on one but decided it wasnt right so we went back out onto the black top and back to the river where we found the track mentioned on the cache. We followed it and afer a while it went behind the hill. It was a great drive. We found the old siding and went looking for the cache. the coordinates were out by a long way but the description was spot on so we just looed for the Quartz blow. Without goecaching we would never have found this place. How fortunate we are to have a GPS. Added Toy Platypus and took nothing
Liked to claim FTF but there was another entry in the log. Observed a lot of birdlife in the large pool below.
