It was a great day caching with d.a.z and with 1/3 of TeamElliotFamily teaming up to do an afternoon of fun filled adventure. Even driving the trusty wee Hyundai I40 along tracks it was not designed to drive did not stop us.
Wow this is our 150th cache!!! and it wasn't until Z from TEF mentioned it that we realised. plenty of high fives and smiles at this cache site. TFTC and for the mile stone.

Today we had an afternoon romp through Bedaz's baclkyard! Have been to Waiouru a number of times in the last three years, but today managed to squeeze some time away from the camp and out past the training area to grab a cache or two.
We got to this one on a road d. hadn't travelled before (neither had I, or the i40....) although he had hunted along a ridge a bit lower down. After playing rally driver to avoid the potholes we pulled up here and set the cachehounds out to find the container. The kids quickly came up with the goods, and after rummaging through and grabbing a couple to Tb's they passed the logbook on to me.
I signed, and after securing the container back in it's hidey hole it dawned on me... this was b.e.d.a.z's 150th CACHE! WOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOO time to celebrate with them. I've been fortunate enough to get a good number of those caches with them, I'm so stoked they took up the game after the initial introductions, it has been cool to see them getting out and about as a family (and I know d. and e. and thankful for the chance it gives z. to blow off some steam )
Thanks for this cache in a great spot.

My mega NZ MEGA 2013 Trip!! Split into two halves - first, the journey up, and then the second half was the actual MEGA time.
This was the first half. I ended up deciding that the best way to travel up for the MEGA was by doing a rental relocation. Jucy had FAR too many cars in Chch that needed going to Auckland, and so with the pick of the crop I went for the 4WD... naturally, being a cacher, I knew this would come in handy!
They paid the vehicle on the ferry, paid the insurance, and gave me a free tank of gas as well as 5 days to get up to Auckland! What more could you want?!!
This was my 204th cache of the trip.
Sorry about the mostly copied logs - but otherwise I would still be logging till Christmas - and that's Christmas 2014 I mean! Haha.
Turned down this road to grab the other cache, and saw what an awesome deserted pot hole road this was! Decided to keep going to see where it went to, and I found that there was a cache here! So I got it

Great day on the plateau. Detoured to this expecting to grab a feed of wild game but all we got was a cache. Nice spot and had a game of dodge the potholes on the access road. TFTCSL
Heading home from the T42 MTB event an stopped off for a quick find. Signed log then replaced. TFTC
Heading South for a short week of work and yet have 5 days worth of work to get through so decieded to do a little caching on the way. Just a slight detour along a great little side road and fantastic tussock covered hillsides
Cache in great condition and soon located

Took a friend hiking down the Waipakihi river with DOC's annual Heli-hike activity.
We got the the parking lot early, so I explained geocaching to him and we set off to find this one. From the road he looked at the bearing on my GPS: 30m that way eh. Gave me back my device and proceeded to find his way straight to it! He noticed the faint geotrail and followed it to the booty. He's an experienced hunter, but I was still very impressed! He would make a good cacher! TFTC

Visiting from the UK, having just had a chat with a guy who had been shooting further up the road, it was only right we got this one. Thanks for the hide
1.40pm. Blustery and cool up here today. Cloud covering the tops of Ngauruhoe and Ruapehu though a good view of the North Crater of Tongariro. Found the cache with little effort. Dreamed of tramping trips past while looking up the valley.

Found this one after spending 3 days tramping/river bashing/camping up the Waipakihi Valley. I highly recommend this if you are into tramping/camping. At the end of the tramp we had to wait about 30 minutes for the bus to arrive so I quickly ran up the road in water logged boots for just over a kilometre to quickly find this cache. TNLNSL. TFTC
A pleasant little detour dodging the potholes along the way lucky nothing was coming in the opposite direction. TNLN SL TFTC

With a cache name like that how could be resist??
To be honest we have resisted every time we drove past it on the desert rd but today we called by, quick easy drive by on the pot holed road, why did we not find it sooner?

been meaning to do this one for a while, Too much snow on the road the last couple of times we passed. Good day today though, although a little chilly. Left a pet rock - a monkey. TFTC
great time of day to be out caching. had a look down the endo of the road which was wild. no pigs or deer but a great experience. TFTC
Decided to go to this to end of the road, will come back to this spot for a fish another time. Wouldnt recommend going all the way down the hill unless you have a 4WD. Left calling card and kiwi magnet. TFTC
Great to visit this spot again, It was one of my favorite hunting areas when I was in the Navy based at Irirangi.

Did a small diversion on the way back to Wellington this afternoon to get this one. Found quickly, but the cache was pretty damp inside and there was no logbook in it. I didn't have my normal caching accessories with me on this trip, but I have left a sheet of paper in a new ziplock plastic bag so hopefully there'll be something for future finders to write on. Really enjoyed coming here, I love this country. Signed log, TFTC and for bringing me here.
# 268 T4TC Nice spot for a cache. But saw no game darn it! Seen a heap of other cars/trucks parked up.
Decided to wait to get a 4 wheel drive to cross the ford. Cant wait to get back here for another crack
Arrived at GZ and no smells today but we did smell a cache which we walked straight up to T4TC.
Nice shrub... got there in the middle of a thunderstorm so didnt see much else!!

Having been down Wellington way for a quick trip visiting friends, we were heading back north to begin a trip into the middle Kaimanawa ranges and just had to stop and grab this one.
We actually spooked a young hind not too far from the cache hide, now all we need is the pork and the Patutu!

Interesting road markings at the turnoff - is this where the spray gun is checked?
Easy cache find - a bit damp, but just as expected from P&P caches - log is safely dry.

Nice drive down to the cache. No pigs or deer for me - but a nice cache instead. SL TFTC
Out and about on a scenic tour. Didn't see any wild pork, but lots of great views and landscapes. TFTC.
Found as part of my three week caching trip from Wellington to Auckland - # 443. Thanks.
The coords were spot on which was fortunate as there is a lot scrubby land surrounding it.
Luckily most of the snow has melted after the recent wintery blast. The cache located easily TFTC
A little detour on the way home after climbing on Tukino side of Ruapehu. Contents wet, but logbook still OK. Nice countryside!
Found a set of caches a while ago as I was driving down to Wellington..... This was one of them - not too sure what the date was unfortunatly... I guess thats the disadvantage of still writing on little scraps of paper. Thanks for the cache.
No signs of hunters out here today. Perhaps the wet weather has put them off. An interesting area. SL. TFTC.
Spent alot of time in this beautiful location hunting...can be very cold & foggy in the winter! TFTC
The picture is just how it looks. What a great little hideaway off the main highway. Nice place for taking photos.
Our 2nd find today, another we've overlooked. We did the cache at the top of the road last time not realising there was another further down. Was a bit worried piloting the motorhome into apparent wilderness, but it was all good in the end. Easy find, co-ords spot on. Took Pfalstad's Come Together geocoin. TFTC
Great spot. I have hunted up this valley and have good memories from it.
Rain just starting to fall as I turned off the main road. As usual, it had an icy sting to it.
Took nothing
Left Aussie Geo Coin.

When we're told by a reviewer not to saturate an area with caches, we think its time to pull the plug. All our caches will now be removed.
*WoW*
Its so peaceful way out here, stood and just *Listened* for awhile. Thanks so much for the cache.

An easy find on a beautiful sunny Easter Sunday.
I really like these caches which are a little bit further off the road.

Really enjoyed this spot. Early evening, a cold wind, half-dark in the gathering clouds, a remote spot away from the rushing highway. I love the plateau in these conditions! Thankyou for the reason to visit! TNLNSL.
All vegetation wet today which ensured we got wet as well. Views at the end of the road are worth the extra distance. Have been tramping up the Waipakihi before too. Great area and a wonderful valley. TFTC
Gee do my best to look like the wildest animal and still I couldn't get hunted. Ha!
We tried to get down the track from the Rangipo Intake road. It's washed out, so don't bother if you are thinking about that. It was back to the 'rush by' Desert Road and then down the road to here.
What a valley.
Cache found as described and true to coords, thanks. All in order and rehidden as found.
It's great to get off that noisy traffic conveyor and take time out appreciating what the countryside really looks like.
TNLNSL - and found with team cacher Sweet P too.

Quick find. Didn’t see any wild pork or venison – but saw Patutu roasting under the hot sun. Nice views.

The VIEW is the reason, plus the fact its NOT a rest area, its out in the fresh alpine air, pristine PURE NZ and there is no litter and toilet stuff around, (please keep it that way),its unspoilt and clean and green and looks out at the wilderness and Mt Patutu and there's a camp area further along and a fishing area in the valley and a tramping track, and a hunting area all around it, and it takes travellers off the Desert Road beaten track so they get away from the traffic noise and can hear the sound of silence....gee whiz, is that enough reasons???

An easy find due to good coords and a wonderful day to be out caching.
It seems we were following in the footsteps of Gandalf today although he came through a couple of days ago.

Cache check. Left replacement logbook while we dry out the other one. Also left New Cacher Geocoin.
Found this cache after a lovely day walk up the valley - only heard the wild venison!
Cache, including log, is quite wet, and didn't have anything to replace plastic bags. Sorry

On the Plateau for the weekend with XenaCommander. Skied yesterday in wonderful conditions lots of prangs and good laughs. We soothed the resulting pains with internally applied "anaesthetic" at the Turangi RSA, and our mob won the rugby to end a fabulous day. Too windy to ski today and its snowing so lets go for a new cache in the snow... fun fun fun. TKs brain cells that react to "Stop" were destroyed by anaesthetic .. XC growled until the rocket ship was eventually anchored in the right spot. Both parties crawled out and lurched toward GZ, TK lurched to the right one. Nice spot and so pretty with fresh snow on the bushes. No time for any more as TK is to be shipped home alone on Splat leaving XC for a boys own holiday, camping, skiing, caching using the rocket as mother ship. fun fun fun

Its been too long since we have been down to the plateau for a play... But TK and XC were down this weekend as first weekend of a holiday for XC. Rode splat down in company of TK who drove the SAG wagon... We spent a mixed day on the slopes yesterday and were showing the bruises and pain this morning.. Even after applying copious amounts of "medicine" internally last night at the RSA whilst watching the rugby test. Whew thank god we won that one.
Checked the weather on the mountain this morning and found that more snow had dropped but was too windy for skiing.
Decided to hunt a P&P cache before TK headed north. Lets do one in the snow... Sure enough we dialled this one up and headed off. Desert road had just reopened and there was snow on the trees even.
Turned off the main highway... Had to drive around muggles parked up and throwing snow balls... TK gingerly drove over snow covered road. XC driving the GPSr... said "STOP!!" It took a few hundred metres before she actually came to rest and had to back up.. Women drivers.....!!
Out in the snow... Brr... not a brass monkey in sight... we headed towards GZ... This could be interesting... Its either this one or that one.. Of course XC chooses the wrong one... Then hears TK's yeowl.. Found... Brushing away the snow she recovers the cache from stiff camo jacket..
Our first snow covered cache.. EXCELLENT...!
TK signed the log in her creative style while XC removed the Geocoin in residence and replaced it with A Fish called Wonder TB and logged thru the other travelling companions to enjoy a snow cache.
Back into rocket and back to town go get TK onto splat to ride north. XC is staying for a few days so hope to get to find another P&P cache.
TFTC #448 P&P always a great adventure hunting yours.

No sign of any pork or venison today but if they were smart they would have been sheltering somewhere from the misty rain. Hard to miss those pot holes!

Checked cache and dropped off a beautiful geocoin from Portugal, Dec06 Geocoin.
The first find on a day trip around the mountain caching. This has been closest to home for a while now - good to knock it off. Followed the road all the way to the end and saw the river level gauge - marked on the map is a short-cut to the cache's to the North, but we couldn't find it.
Thanks
Thanks
11:02 FTF! Yay! Drove 180km for this. Many thanks for the Map Compass FTF prize. Have I seen an extremely similar item somewhat closer to Rotorua before? Heading further up the valley for a look-see on this amazing Autumn day.
Uplifted TB: National Park
TNLNSL Thanks again.
Later: found a cool fishing spot & then a camp site - long drop included. Looks like a return visit may be needed. 4wd advised but there was a large campervan at the campsite.
