Mount Cole State Forest opened this week. (Buangor State Park and Mount Lonarch Forests remain closed still). We did a reconnaissance trip to see the state of things, and if by chance there had been any small pockets of unburnt land that might have held a cache. The towers were well protected by the amazing firefighting aircraft, but the surrounding bush was still burnt. The bush is all burnt but will regrow of course. Nature is amazing. But it will take time. At the moment, the ground is still very soft and fragile and the animals still need to return and establish their new homes. We will continue to monitor on behalf of the cache owner.
The Mount Cole State Forest and Mount Buangor State Park remain closed while recovery works continue. Will continue to monitor.
Posting again on behalf of the CO:The Mount Cole State Forest and Mount Buangor State Park were heavily impacted by the February 22nd bushfires. Both areas remain closed and inaccessible due to the huge amount of fire damaged roads and facilities.Forestry crews have commenced assessment and clearing of fire damaged trees and roads - a mammoth task. The date of reopening the parks has not yet been published, however we will continue to monitor the situation and update as more information comes to hand.Reiterating the previous safety message:PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FIND ANY CACHE THAT HAS BEEN DISABLED DUE TO THE BUSHFIRES, regardless of whether you think it is safe or not. Any 'Found It' logs while this cache is disabled for this reason will be subsequently deleted.Thank you again for your understanding.Jo and Glen (chooknchunk)
On behalf of the CO, we are posting this Important Notice:Following the bushfires of February 2024, The Mount Cole State Forest and Mount Buangor State Park are currently CLOSED to the public. While the major fire front has been suppressed, there is still a fair amount of fire activity in the form of smouldering stumps and trees. Local agencies are still attending to hot spots, falling trees, road damage and burnt facilities, and may be doing so for the next few weeks, or months even. Many access roads to the forests are still closed or are for local resident access only.PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FIND ANY CACHE THAT HAS BEEN DISABLED DUE TO THE BUSHFIRES, regardless of whether you think it is safe or not. Any 'Found It' logs while this cache is disabled for this reason will be subsequently deleted. We will continue to update the situation as required, and will address the caches involved once access is finally allowed.Thank you for your understanding.Jo and Glen (chooknchunk)
This cache is an an area subject to fire fighting operations (22-23 Feb) and may have been impacted by the fire. It has been disabled until it is safe for the CO is able to check the current condition of the cache.
*Found on the 14 Oct 2023 @ 4:08pm.**Cache find # 15153.*Today I headed for Ditchfields camp for an event later on today.I arrived early, unloaded the bike and headed off in search of a few caches, this one being one of them. After find a merry old cache, I was now heading back towards the event but made a slight detour and stopped at this one along the way.At GZ, I started looking around but I wasn't seeing it, once I moved to a different spot the cache was then found, with the log now signed, it was time to continue on to the next.**Thanks to 2Dudez for keeping the game going by placing this cache.**
Hopped over the border from SA for the weekend to explore and what a beautiful place to explore. Had 3 goes at it with muggles with the perfect timing bug. Lol. TNLNSLTFTC

Parked on the slope and walked in, happy to make an easy find here approaching from the right side. Used to having views at spots like this, the structure was cool to check out however. Be a interesting work station. Thanks for placing!
A weekend away, hosted by the lovely chooknchunk. Today’s guided tour - Mt Cole and surrounds.
A nice-sized container up here. The temperature sure is cooler snd the wind has bite.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache, 2Dudez

After checking out Raglan Falls, we decided to grab this cache on the way to a couple of super old ones! This one being from 2007 - it's one of the oldies! We were able to get to GZ today because of the good work done by previous cachers! Thanks for the cache 2Dudez.

First time in a while that I’ve been out caching with SimsFamily and Neville Devil for the usual laughs, insults and amazing locations regardless that the white beast has height issues.
We headed for Mt Cole to start the day, then on to Waterloo, Beaufort and Rokewood and everywhere in between which made for great locations and hides which made for a great day out.
On the road to GZ there was yet another tree fallen across the road. So out came the now trusty TOTT to clear the way.
It was windy with low cloud at GZ, but didn’t stop us spotting the hide.
Log signed and replaced as found
Thanks for the Cache 2Dudez

Exploring the area with the old folks, was a pretty easy find and great to see the log in such good condition considering its age!
Up this way again after 1 year and 1 day. Didn't realise that I hadn't logged it then. Sorry about that. Thanks for placing this cache and maintaining it for so long. A favourite for me.
Mrs Papi was out and about exploring the area and had a great time. I believe that I will be going up there to explore some time soon. Looking forward to it. Thanks for the cache.
WOW WEE, that's a tall tower when your are right at the bottom of it.
Man it was freezing cold here today 5 degrees and blowing a gale, I was so glad this was a quick find.
What a find it was, Ammo Can, YEAH!
Great to have a container like that in a place like this.
A fave point coming your way 2Dudez, thanks for the cache!
I never would have come to this spot otherwise.

This is the 3rd of a number of caches for the day whilst we are exploring Mt Cole State Park. A magnificent drive thru this hidden gem near Ararat where we have parked the caravan for a couple of days. Thank you jits318 for placing and maintaining this cache
We stopped off here to grab this cache which did not look to strenuous for us oldies. Easy drive and the place was deserted. No faces at the window pearing down and no ice falling off the tower. Just a pleasant walk in the bush really. Cache was found in good condition and we left our mark.
Thanks for placing this cache 2Dudez

Found while heading back to Ditchfields camping ground after completing two cache finds at Ben Nevis. The rain had finally started to ease off by this time of the afternoon so i was prepared to make the detour to head up here for another find for the day. As i got closer to the GZ the sight of the buildings appearing through the fog was a bit eerie. Another of my favourite type of cache container, i have never found so many of them in one day, i think this was my third in 12 finds! And another one for my AUSmer list so happy days! Thx 2Dudez for another terrific cache location.
While out chasing a few first to finds today with Neville_devil our path crossed very near this. Too close in fact to not make the small detour. Knowing that some of the track around here are not the best I had decided that if was good enough we would make the effort. The track was excellent so we diverted and made the easy find.
Thank you 2Dudez for the cache

Quick find with FerociousFlea while in the Pyrenees Ranges with the Mount Gambier 4WD club. Went for a drive down to Beaufort and then back up through Mt Cole and Mt Buangor for sunset before a night 4WD run... exciting times!!!

I’ve seen this location from the Highway and always wanted to come here. I wish there was a lookout to climb though
On a caching outing with kenare to somewhere that I've not been to for many, many years. Holy crap, up so high but the tower seems to keep on going. Gps accuracy wasn't so flash, but the hide was spotted quickly. Cigc. Tftc
Been up here many times for the view, never even checked to see if there was a cache here. Beautiful location. TFTC.
Heading to this cache, I had to divert my GPS a few times, as it kept wanting me to drive on some very questionable tracks. Although I have a four wheel drive, it does not have muddies on it, and I was hoping for some roads, not tracks. Just as I was calming my nerves somebody came around the corner at me, on the wrong side of the road. Awesome. He is very lucky I was going slowly and managed to avoid a crash. Upon reaching ground zero, I of course parked nowhere near the cache. But a short walk soon ensured I had a log book in hand to sign. TFTC 2Dudez
Muggle bro and I decided to take Emma out for a run tonight. No sooner had we hit the bush when 2 deer casually stepped out in front of us and walked up the track a little way before heading into the scrub again. We headed the longest way possible to this cache! We found tracks that aren't on the map and we took tracks on the map that we decided weren't too good, lol. At one point we had to stop and lock Emma's hubs in before we could continue. Ahh well the journey is what you make it and we made it fun!! After u-turning on a dinky lil track we made it here eventually. I love finding these caches!! Tftc
Hubby is on a country run for work, inspecting electrical boards. He has been lucky enough to do three broadcasting towers, including this one, which was the biggest. Mt Cole and Dooen are the other two. All three had caches. Thanks for the cache
A chance for a summer drive and picking up some caches. Not easy to get here, have taken so many turns that we are not really sure where her is anymore, but great to be finally up here.
Geocaching has taken me on many adventures over the years all over Australia and overseas. It has also introduced me to a brilliant and diverse group of people, many of whom are now close friends.
Today I was lucky enough to be out and about so I targeted this cache.
Sorry for the late log, but thanks for adding to the adventure!

1:33:00 PM. Tried one track in but in the end decied there had to be an easier way so turned around and made our way back out to a main track. Then it was an wasy drive to the top where we desturbed some muggles having some lunch and too much to drink. They soon packed up and left when we arrived with lots of yelling and horn blowing. Better half made the find and the log was signed. Thanks 2Dudez for placing this cache.
Team Clarmensma met up again today, this time to target the Beaufort/Mt Cole areas. A wonderful day was had with lots of laughs and great cache finds as well as some beautiful walks. TFTC!
A day adventuring with Team Clarmensma around Mt Cole and Beaufort. A great day was had finding some cool caches and taking nice (and sometimes long!) walks. TFTC
Caching in beautiful Mt Cole today with Team Clarkmensma (me, becca85, boo09, neisha07, Adam and Luke). What an amazing mountain - why have I never been before? So excited by the places we discovered today and thankful for geocaching for bringing me here. When arrived here about 10am and it was still very foggy and that meant we couldn't see the top of the tower. So awesome to see this in the bush - it is HUGE! Also never knew this was where my TV/radio recption came from! Adding a pic of the 4 kids in the fog. Thanks for the cache
Each school holidays or thereabouts we form Team Clarmensma, the bionic combo of myself, GemmaSistema, neisha07, boo09, Adam & Luke and choose an area to target and make a day of it.
Today we left the house at 8am and returned at 9.30pm. Not a huge count today, instead we managed some fantastic (& killer!) walks with amazing views. A great day!
It was so incredibly foggy here, we couldn't even see the top of the tower!
A quick find was made then a photo op for the kids. TFTC

Over the years I have driven past, hiked around and gotten close to this tower but never had the chance to go in and get this cache. Well today that changed. In the company of Wozzle68, The Tritonz and Choonchunk we managed to get in and add my name to the log before we went off to attempt a nearby archived cache. An impressive feat of engineering indeed. Thanks for bringing me here 2Dudez.
Found while bike riding with friends , introducing them to Geocaching
Today we used geocaching as our guide to explore this area as we are from interstate. It was fun but at times frustrating trying to find our way the multitude of tracks in the park, but this was not one of those as it can be found on really good 2WD tracks. No muggles around today and a quick find at the end of the day. TNLN SL TFTC 2Dudez - 2nd one of yours we found today!
After taking a few back bush tracks- and along a closed road, but only signed where we came out- we made it to the tower. Great day for the 4by! TFTC
Wow what a day to be looking for a cache up here. It was freezing cold, windy and yes we got snow while finding this cache, it wasn't a lot but enough to know it was snowing. Eventually got cache in hand and signed log along with Misschief18. We all got into car and headed for our next cache and on arrival at next cache found that Mrs Wanderer had left her walking stick laying against the back of the car when Chunk drove off so we had to travel back up to this cache to retrieve one list stick and yes there it was lying on the track.

Found with The 2 Wanderers during a weekend at Raglan with chooknchunk. There was a light sprinkling of snow as we drove to this cache and it continued as we located it. Not enough to stay on the ground, but enough for us to say it was snowing. It was icy cold and the wind was blowing. We did not get very close to the towers. Couldn't see the top today. TFTC
Carrying the travelbug "Bigfoot" who's mission is to visit forests around the world. We think our Mt Cole forest is worthy for Bigfoot to visit, so we have photographed him near the tower and in the nearby forest. (Not too close to the towers as there was a high risk today of falling ice from the guy wires). Enjoying showing off our mountain to The 2 Wanderers and Misschief18, who were travelling with us today.
Out on an adventure with Wozzle68 in The Langi Ghiran and Mt Buangor area today.

It was snowing up on the Mount today - will try to attach a pic of the snow.
Re the falling ice - yes indeed, if it has been snowing, please do beware of the falling ice off the tower. It certainly falls beyond the boundary fence and cricket ball size lumps of solid ice were seen to be hitting the path below. In fact it put us off walking the entire boundary. Great hide - enjoyed trudging about in the snow to find it. Thanks.

We had fun not only driving the 4WD up here but also the camper trailer, we took the hard 4wd track, not the easy gravel road we found on the way out. There are some amazing big trees around here, we signed the log at sunset and got back into the car before the muggles realized. Great spot thanks
I have seen this tower from afar many times and have pondered driving up here but never made all the way to the top, now as a geocacher I had double the inspiration to make it to the top. Now to head down.. back down the road or take the powerline trail?
Amazingly big building attached to this structure. Hate to think of all that stuff radiating from all those antennae! TFTC.
Our first cache for 2012. That's a sizable tower... Quick find on a warm day, cache and contents in good condition. TFTC TNLNSL

Found today in the company of Sully1.
We left the car in light drizzle, and headed to the recently archived cache nearby.
By the time we'd found that one, the rain was thumping down, and we were totally drenched by the time we reached this well-hidden good sized container.
My thanks to 2dudez for bringing us here, great little spot, TNLNSL

Drove up from Clever Richard which was interesting, as the satnav led us further up The Glut Road before detouring up a quite steep and in places rutted track where the 4WD got a bit of a workout. Anna not having done much 4WDing was a bit perturbed but I knew it was well within the capabilities of me and the Suzuki so didn't even think twice. At the top of the hill looked for a way towards the tower as the satnav didn't know the way, followed another minor 4WD track that just rejoined the main one further along. Hmmm. Then a bit further along found the sign and nice road that said TV Tower. Sheesh. Still the way we went was a lot more fun.
Nice quick find once at GZ and some nice photos of the tower. Surprising to see it is a while since anyone has been up here. A group of friends and a week to explore the State Forest would be a great fun time with some fantastic camping as well. Thanks 2Dudez.

Found at 3.25pm GAFF1 in the company of The Grovers. We made it to the top quite easily following the track and managed to park the car just a few metres from GZ. The building was quite noisy with the exhaust fans going full blast - must get really hot in there with all of that equipment. Thanks 2Dudez - we are really exploring this area quite thoroughly with your well placed caches.
Found by edmil & maddie in the company of kinkell1 & Tilley bug (geodog). This was our first cache of the day. We had no maps of the area and the Garmin was scratching its furry little satellite head for tracks, with no success. I put it into compass mode and of we went. We reached GZ after working our way uo the hillside Tilley TB was a bit shakey with the ride but perked up okay when we arrived. Much to our dismay there was falcon at the top of the hill, what the.. there is super highway to the top - we'd found the goat track; thanks Garmin. After Garmin cracking it & losing satellite contact we eventually located the cache. No swap was made. Thanks for the cache, Then it was back down the back track, no super highway for us.
