Fishing holiday over Waitangi Day and a lovely drive back through the gorge. A bit of a hike in jandels though!! Fun! I earned my coffee! TFTC!!
Swung by here after an afternoons surfing at Shipwreck Bay. We were enjoying the walk uphill so much we carried on until the top. There are a couple of spots along the way were you can see the view back over to 90 mile beach as well as to the south. Kiwiscot pointed out a Miromiro (North Island Tom Tit) perched on a branch. It did not hang around long though. Managed to get 1 photo before the camera batteries died, good thing we had the cell phone handy as backup. Picked up the cache on the way back down. Took us a few minutes to locate as we were initially looking around the boulders. Eventually found the hidey spot a few metres back down the path. Contents damp. Added a new log but the cache could do with some TLC. Cheers, we enjoyed the walk / workout
I had already given up n this one, but then, on my last attempt, I found it.
It was a bit further down the hill than the coordinates led me to believe.

This was a weekend that had been in the planning for a little while and in the company of HKCB we headed up after work. the object for the weekend was to locate as many of the west coast caches as possible along with a couple of other mini missions including the northern most caches, and earth caches. All was going well until we hit a rock and punctured/ripped a tyre which in turn resulted in the weeknd being brough to a premature end and heading home effectively 24 hours early. We did however manage to collect approx 50 caches and a number of these had not been located for some considerable time.
I would like to thank all the cache owners for their work to keep many of these remote caches still in place.
This was the twenty eighth cache of the trip and a nice quick find for the fifteenth of the day. A slog up the hill but a cache located so not all lost
Thanks for the cache, Thanks for the placement

On a bit of a weekend mission with Cats&Dragons, with the goal to find the 2 most Northerly caches in NZ and while we were up there to find as many as we can along the West side of Northland. Unfortunately a bit of car trouble cut the weekend mission short and we had to pull the pin and head home about 10pm Saturday night. Still we had a lot of fun and saw some pretty awesome parts of our country, so a big thanks must be given to all the CO's who's caches we found. All up we located just shy of 50 caches and signed the logs either HKCB/C&D or HKCD.
Didn't expect the slog up the hill to this cache, but we had already stopped and it was good to stretch the legs. A quick find once and GZ, thanks for the hide.

A bit muddy after a nights heavy rain so didn't smell any of the herbs etc. Found as described log book a bit wet

Found this cache with Foreshore Ferret. Nice bush. Log was a bit damp but a nice cache. Cheers!
This nice hike broke up the roadside park and grabs. Once up the hill, my GPSr had me a bit higher than the actual cache location. I followed a PF's advice and then I found it easily. TFTC.
We appear to be the first finders in 2015! Some 10 months since the last visitor. We are on our way south along this nice "backroad," but had time for a short hike. Trail was a bit wet, but cache is in good shape with the log only a little damp. Area was pretty clean, but we did do a little CITO at the trail head. Thanks for the chance to visit an apparently seldom visited cache.
I use my phone's gps and that's pretty inaccurate in forests so it took me a while to find it. Cache is pretty wet. So was the trail but I managed to go up and down safely in slippers. It was slippery though. Tftc.
Just back home in UK from trip to NZ so now able to log our finds. Stayed in Ahipara for a couple of nights in order to visit Cape Reinga. Now setting off soutwards towards Aukland ready for our journey home. Stopped here and started along the track but soon returned to the campervan to change into our hiking boots as it was so muddy and slippery. Hung on to each other at GZ to stop ourselves from falling over!

We found this cache on a 2 week trip around Northland, visiting such locations as Opononi, Kaitaia, Cape Reinga, Russel, among many other places.
We had to wait for two trampers to move on before we embarked up the very muddy track, so we admired the tree stumps carved in the traditional Māori style. Nice walk, apart from the fact that it was incredibly muddy. TFTC.

Found with Redants while on our Far North Road Trip to the Winterless North. We found ourselves in some interesting places that we would not have visited had we not been searching for caches. Thanks to all the cache owners.
We didn't have gumboots so it was a careful walk up to GZ and back. TFTC.

We thought hard and long ( well, at least gave it a passing thought) before deciding to walk up this track today, because of the distressing amount of mud on the track. Luckily we came prepared with gumboots and were able to make a slow and steady walk to and from GZ. Thanks.
This is a great bush walk. Next time I'm in the area I will explore this track a bit further.
Cheers for the cache.

After reading past logs we returned down the trail about 15 metres and easily found. Log sheet is soaked. Ta
#508 found on day 6 of the te araroa trail. Would love to have left my trackable but it wouldn't fit. Bit wet inside.
Travelled throughout the North with crispyhaugio and we managed to geocache around. TFTC.
Trip through the beautiful Northland and geocaching wherever possible. Thanks to all the cacheowners for shwoing us (Pandabär13 and me) these great places.
Yup, up the track! 70m doesn't seem that far until you start climbing! Would say the cache is about 15m and had a bit ilof water in it. Tftc
The GPS coordinates don't seem to be right around here. The accuracy was 5m but the cache wasn't there. I think I ran 30minutes up and down that hill afterwards trying to find it.
Wow....ok so GPS took US well past it...to an area with loads of great hiding spaces....after 20 min of looking started back and spotted it. TFTC.
Day seven of my Te Araroa Trail journey. Slippery up but it got even worse beyond the cache. A quick rest stop for me to find the cache.
#1012, trail was very wet and slippery today. Wind was blowing a gale as we got back to the car. Found after a small search. TFTC
Mini Mob didn't like the wet & mud at the start of the track and after falling over was ready to go back to the car but with the bribery of a lolly he made it to the top. GPS wanted to go up to the top a bit and only found it on the way back. Interesting location and a big well done for Mini Mob for not giving up!!
Didn't say it was almost straight up. No probs for us 65yr olds. Found with 'Kev & Chris'. The Italian Job (TIJ)was here.....!
Took a bit of hunting but got there in the end. Quite slippery after all of the rain. Thanks for the stop
We found this one on our way to the ferry after we'd been horseriding at Ahipara. Took a little while to locate the cache, nice short walk.

After horseriding at Ahipara we continued on our way to the ferry. On our way we stopped for this cache. A nice short walk. It took awhile to find this one, but eventually it revealed itself.

TFTC Greetings from Germany! Two men told us that it is very dangerous to park the car there! Be careful guys in case of the thefts!
Great stop on our road trip although there was some whining from the gallery about the stairs! Found by Ronnie. TFTC.
Arrived at GZ and found the cache after a bit of a search. Must have had rocks in my head! but in the end being stumped was a good thing! T4TC
As it was too rainy here in NZ, we decided against any long hikes. But this was an opportunity to see at least the beginning of a track....we did search for a while but were happy to find the box within these amazing plants. Tftc.
Pity I had no time for this track through Herekino, maybe later. Thanks for a cache. IN-TB.
#74 Great little walk. Lots of steps but when the gps zeroed out there was only a few places it could be and we found it in the second.
Cycling in the area a good place at the top of the hill for taking a break of cylcing and trying this cache...TFC
Quick FInd. Nice spot with a bit of rubbish though!!!

unfortunately rubbish back at head of trail. lovely spot but must be dumping ground for someone! clownycacher helped us with finding the cache as he often does! lovely wee walk. TFTC. cheers, kiwicacher
Hi! the trail was cleaned up (at least the part we walked to the cache). It was very wet and slippery so we didn't do the whole trail. plus we had other caches to find on our way back to auckland. Thanks!
A short stop on our way up North. Despite lousy GPS reception we fond the cache quickly by using the hint. TFTC.

The start of the track was rubbish-free today, you'll be pleased to hear! We had the forest all to ourselves, which was just as well as the signal was bad on the steep hill, so we had to keep walking up and down until it settled. The hint helped enormously. Dropped off The Littlest Hobo "Helga" TB. SL. TFTC.
Rumo and Rala went on a road trip up north and did some geocaching in between.
Another secret spot we loved to explore thanks to the cache. Some confusion near GZ due to lost reception, but all turned out OK when we used the hint. We'd loved to climb up higher, but time was against us. Maybe next time.

PS: There was still quite a lot of rubbish (bottles, beer cans and packages) lying around at the trail head. Too much for a CITO, though...

Found it after a short walk through the bush. It was very wet, but the cache was dry.

Well the rubbish seems to be gone . It only seems to be raining here in the hills. T4TC - M@
Still rubbish about, but loved the carving at the track entrance.
Wasn't to keen to leave the car unatended though so Mrs Sp8 stayed behind while I hunted. I am sure she knew about all the steps!

2.20pm. Out caching for the day with The Pud. Lunch stop down at Ahipara. Short steep walk here after studying an interesting old carving. Mrs.F. lagged behind a little but the tortoise gets the results from careful looking.

The listed TB 'Hermitage' is not in the cache but the log says cacher 'wisco' took it on the 21/08/07 and hasn't logged it yet.

Its a shame the rubbish is still there. Started to rain just before arrival so the track was quite muddy in places. After many walks up & down the track finally managed to get a signal & locate the cache. Lovely bush & will return sometime when its fine to explore the area more.

Visited site with No Fixed Aboders (thank goodness) as walked up and down and missed it initially. Unfortunate about the rubbish, the walk would be lovely on a nice day. TNLN
Yes, also have seen this as unfound before we left for the weekend, an as we noticed from other cache logs we knew that BFLDY was doing the far north. So it was not a surprise to find their log on our way back home to the big smoke!! Stunning place, just a shame about the rubbish that is still there and the graffiti on the sign. A good lesson for the kids at what not to do!!!
Cache was quite open, and could see it from a distance, so pushed it in a bit - not sure if the forraging birds are kicking it out?
left tb, as we had it before
+ smily ball key ring

It's been here two weeks, so we were surprised to be able to get FTF. But we did!!!!
So glad this was early on our list for today... a good short workout cache... Did I mention the butterfly hates steps... This cache was all steps... but with wonderful rewards of lovely native bush, including some very small ferns.
GPSr signal was a bit off... but it settled down and we found a lovely cache. Our find #850.
This place is a gem.
