not only is the cache gone ... all the trees are gone too

29-Jun-13
On the way home back to Brisbane after five days at Cania Gorge, we stopped in this park to sort out something rattling in the back of the car. Checked for the cache under some concrete next to the tree at GZ, but came up empty.

Been a while now since the needs maintenance log was posted, so perhaps the CO could check on this one and replace it if required?

Unfortunately this cache is gone and requires replacment

17-Jan-13
passed by and saw that the trees are definitely not suitable for hiding a cache in anymore Surprised Thanks to Scottnloz and Quasar3671 for saving the original and placing a micro. Hopefully, we can get a larger one to replace it again Smile

28-Dec-12
When we got to this one we knew we weren't going to be looking as driver reviver was open and muggles around also saw where trees had been pruned so will try again next time we are passing.

18-Dec-12
Unfortunately Quasar3671 is right - the Council pruned the trees at GZ right back and found the cache a few weeks ago.

Luckily I intercepted it and am holding onto it for the moment until it can be re-planted nearby or in a totally different spot in town.

Sounds like there's an Eclipse tin there for the moment anyway. Thanks Quasar3671.

08-Nov-12
9416 kms travelled in 21 days, one awesome eclipse observed near Mt Carbine in Northern Queensland and 712 cache finds, including a small handle of FTF's.

This was a trip I'd been planning for over 12 months with the main reason being to observe the solar eclipse on the morning of the 14th of November. I had decided to drive to Palm Cove and back, where my penthouse accommodation was located, while the rest of the family flew up and back. I love the drive and the unknown adventures that lay ahead; and I even think the last time I did one this big may have been for the previous eclipse in Australia which occurred over SA.

Apart from the great experiences, awesome scenery, and the characters met, the other reason to drive was to also do some serious caching, with the plan to stop at some power trails along the way including the Fruit Run and A.S. series near Stanthorpe on the way up and the Mid North Coast Wander series, just out of Port Macquarie, on the way back.

I had five days to travel each way with ten days in between spent in Palm Cove holidaying with my family. My route up took me from Melbourne to Tocumwal and up to Glenn Innes, through Toowoomba, Rockhampton and the coast road to Cairns while my route back was a bit more erratic. Heading from Cairns to Townsville then via Charters Towers to Rockhampton. From here it was through the amazing mining region to Roma then across to Dalby down through Stanthorpe (again) to Armidale, Port Macquarie, Wagga Wagga, Tocumwal and then home - phew.

After staying the night in Goomeri I cached my way along the Leichhardt Hwy to the Capricorn Hwy and in to Rockhampton where I arrived around 7:30 pm and stayed the night in some proper accommodation (as opposed to the back on the Prado). Looks like the council workers have been busy here. The trees at GZ had been well and truly pruned and the area cleaned out. No cache found so replaced with a new log and eclipse container under small piece of concrete at base of tree at GZ. Not sure if the work here has finished so this may disappear too. Thanks GeoScrubers.

28/06/2012 11:40

We were camping at the nearby Cania Gorge camping grounds and needed a few more 'essential' supplies, so off to Monto we go, and while stocking up on 'essential' supplies we needed to make another 'essential' stop in the area (to find a cache... of course... Big Grin)

Pulling up to close to GZ (literally only a few metres away), no need for us to even get out of the car as I just pointed GZ to the Geokids and said 'go for it'. I think before the last geokid got out of the car, the first was already returning with the find. The usual 'battle' over who gets first pick of any swaps soon entailed... That quickly sorted, the log was signed and cache returned to it's resting spot.

Thanks for the hunt,
Cheers,
Ksix

Dropped off 3 trackables today.

In our travels home from a camping extraveganza, we (MrsGreenGeckos, AKA the obsessed one) decided we do some caching along the journey. Can't say I was disappointed by that, at all.

Not only was every man and his OR HER dog there today, but they bloody well were parked all over the place, making getting out with a trailer more difficult that it had to be.

Every man and his dog was stopped here today! TFTH Smile

There was a Driver Reviver site set up so I stopped and had a chat to the ladies at the stall. They recommended Cania Gorge so I did a quick stop and walk in there before going to Biloela. Well worth a visit. Thanks for the cache.

Gday
I live in Monto and after my brother-in-law introduced my wife and I to geocaching, we were excited to see yours hidden in our town. So off we go with our two granddaughters who are with us for a couple of days and down to the park where by the way we have served on Driver Reviver. Found the cache after a few minutes - our first one! Even found out a new thing about the park while we were looking (only lived here 8 years!). Anyway thanks for putting it there and glad you enjoy your stays here.
