2001 AND THE ORIGINAL LOGBOOK IN IT. This cache and the CIDER at the end of the day was my highlight today, We went to some GREAT locations and along the way just soaked up the sounds of the bush We found a stray dog, and for once it WASNT SMOKEYBEAR ...Turns out it was a local bloke who ( after i called the # on the dogs collar) gave us an EXTRA local history lesson. After chatting to him and his dog we took of up another hill.Ripper cache and truely loved the fact we could sit down and read logs in the book from over 20 years ago !! It was just COOL.Tftc
My plan for the Grand Final Public Holiday was to tick off another month on my Ausmer challenge. As such, Mt Lofty and the July 2001 geocache Adelaide Mountain was the primary target. Toolman was up for the adventure and selected to drive us there. We enjoyed the stroll and didn't do it like all the other people in the area. We cut straight down hill from the top down to the river, and them followed the disused trail along the river. Certainly slower but a much better walk, with the river and the bird noises the only sound. Toolman made sure he didn't step on the tiger snake that was travelling over the path in front of us.After a lovely lunch at "Now and Not Yet" in Warrandyte, we headed over to Forth Hill and visited the Mines there collecting the old August 2001 geocache. That multicache, Rainbows End, was certainly the highlight taking us to some great locations and finding the original log book from 2001 still in good condition. Great geocache. Took us to some great locations. At one, we discovered a dog all by himself. Toolman called the number of the tag, and we soon had a grateful local with us. Having a chat, we soon got to learn more about the local history. At the final GZ, Toolman spotted the final right beside where I was standing and not seeing it. . We then enjoyed reading all the original logs written by geocachers over 20 years ago. Thanks for the cache, gahpee.Hunter
Revisited this cache with icw. I always love a walk around Fourth Hill and I visited a TB while there.
I thought Id do this as I have most of the caches from this park as I live in North Warrandyte. Always an adventure in state parks. TFTC
Todays mission, these older caches in a fab spot to go walking. All didnt quite go as planned as my initial access point meant I couldnt get across the cree, flooded from last nights storm. With a limited time frame found another access point and off I set. Tried to multi task and failing dismally by missing #2 cache. All WPs for this cache went well. Much further to walk than I anticipated and with my time window dwindling fast, I managed to get this cache and another before needing to bolt. Loved my little outing. pointThanks so much to gahpee (Greg & Bev) for placing and keeping this golden oldie goingRegardskbucky
Well, this was a bit full-on! I usually avoid multis with many points, but the area here is excellent and steeped in interesting points. Thanks for taking me on a tour. I actually saw a wild platypus. I didn't mind the ups and downs, and the tracks were solid for most of the way. I'm unsure if the cache was in the correct spot, but I replaced it as found. Thanks!
Having caught up with a couple of school friends over lunch, I headed over here. It was a lovely damp, grey afternoon for a winter's walk! Even though I've lived in the area for decades, I've never been here before. I loved it, and have a wonderful walk The answers were easy enough to get, and the nearby AL made it easy to walk between the waypoints. I was very glad that the whole walk left me back near the car, as it was sunset by the time I got there.Thank you so much for bringing me here to listen to the songs of tiny birds along the trail. I'm glad to have found one of the oldest geocaches in the area. TFTC, gahpee!
A trip to the North East had AusFox; and I hunting some very old caches trying to tick of a few Jasmer months. This one was one of my two main targets for the day. With only four months left of the possible months available in Australia after finding this one today I now only have three left to find.Thank you gahpee for keeping this one alive for so long
Joined up with SimsFamily to go in search of some jasmer dates which are always few and far between. Today they were around Warrandyte and Mount Dandenong.Id visited this area a few times, even abseiling the nearby wall in my youth. It was interesting to see the changes.A great guide tour of the local Gold history. Log signed and replaced as found. Thanks for the multi cache Greg and Bev 8,003
Woke this morning early after a few days on the road heading down from Brisbane via Sydney and then the Canberra Mega to stay the night in Melbourne. My wife had a family catch up this morning and I took the opportunity to fill a gap in my Jasmer grid by heading to this oldie. After a few ups and downs I made my way to GZ where the cache is as quickly located, log extracted and signed and returned before heading off to finish the ad lab and bonus. Very happy to fill the gap in the grid with 4 more to go in OZ.A big thanks to the cache owner and maintainer for placing this oldie and keeping it in good condition.Cheers
Doing this multi was going to make for a really long day for us, but the published date alone was enough to make it worth the stop between Ballarat and Lakes Entrance. I love history too so it was twice the worth. The rest of the team didnt appreciate the hilly walking on a hot day for some reason . All in the name of fun. It was pretty cool to see some ruins along the way but even cooler to find an oldie and sign our name next to the CO in the original log book. Thanks for keeping this one going in this great location.
This was a great way to start the weekend and celebrate Valentines Day. Neither of us had been up this way before to explore and we were impressed to find so many mine shafts, who knew they were this close to the city?! We loved reading the history and gallivanting around the area. There were also a ton of moths/butterflies who joined us on the path. When we eventually made it to GZ it was awesome to find such a big cache and log book, with signatures dating back quite a ways. What more can I say, this cache was gold! Thank you for placing and maintaining it!
The highest priority for this trip was to fill in some dates on my ausmer/jasmer calendar. This is the third one of quite a few I hope. I arrived on a beautiful sunny morning and started my geocaching mini tour of the area in fine form. Some of those hills are pretty steep and got the heart pumping and sweat flowing, I must admit that I needed a couple of rests on the way. After a short break to collect clues at each waypoint I finally found the excellent cache and was glad to drag myself back to the geomobile. Perfect!Rainbow's End is find number 3,253 for me. A great regular multi cache I enjoyed finding as part of my caching trip which started in the Mt Disappointment area and then meandered south into the Melbourne suburbs. Unless otherwise mentioned above, I found the coordinates to be accurate, the cache in good condition and the log dry and with plenty of room to sign.I am logging this one a couple of days late but found it on Wednesday the 6th of December 2023 and the weather was sunny but cool and pleasant. Thanks for placing this cache for the rest of us to enjoy gahpee.Found with Geooh GO
Such a treat to find this golden oldie and peruse the old log book. A big afternoon walk in the area hunting down the ad lab + bonus cache, three multi's and earth cache. I didn't have too much difficulty with any of the caches but holding all the information in my head and trying to work out the most efficient routes to conserve energy on this 31 degree day was a challenge.
Very good! I enjoyed the waypoints till I calculated wrong on the final and added an extra 1km to the trip. What to say?I did thoroughly enjoy this cache though. I saw how many stages there were and decided I definitely needed to get some breakfast before attempting it. And Id also advise taking a bottle of water. The hills are a little bit brutal but felt more so today under the humid hot sun. Glad to have this nice old one ticked off have a FP and a pic of a very sweaty JFTF at GZ. TFTC
Great to see this old cache still in operation. Some fantastic locations on my way round. Tftc
Visiting some friends in Australia and told them I would be chuffed to find some geocaches. We settled on this one as our first one. I don't have reception so we stuck to the ones I had saved on my phone. I had a great stretch of my legs and a beautiful first view of the Australian Bush. Thanks so very much for this cache!
Easy to understand questions easy calculations awesome place to explore At GZ it took a moment to spot what I was looking for but found it from 15 Meters away . privilege to sign this Golden oldie cache favourite point for location and for execution. The whole multi walk along with the Ad Lab and other caches took me 3 hours in total. Walking poles came in handy.
This turned out to be quite a trek...
Took about 90 minutes with 6,600 steps. Half up and half down.
But all of the co-ordinates worked out brilliantly and it was an easy enough find in the end.
Great history, a nice walk (being only 10 degrees, I was still sweating from the walking at the end). Glad it was not a hot day when I did it.
Cache log now has our squiggle in it too.
Thanks for bringing me here.

This was the target for a public holiday due to ticking off a missing box on the month grid, as well as another caching day for this month's challenge and to explore an interesting area. Such a well thought out multi taking you on a nice tour of the park. I also don't solve multis too often and glad this one was straight forward. Tftc
Entered that one from completely the wrong way got there in the end and the walking track out was much easier!
Thanks for the adventure, it got the heart rate up with the trails we traversed. Grest condition for its age.
This multi took me all around the "gold" tracks, passing signs and mines along the way. It was very enjoyable as none of the questions were ambiguous, and no mistakes were made, which usually happens when I undertake long multis. At GZ the good sized cache was found after a bit of a search.
What a great old-skool Multi, which took us all over this park, past many fascinating historical points of interest. After a long hiatus of caching up with my great geocaching buddy Hera, it was wonderful to wander (and heave ourself up steep hills) through the bush together under clear sunny skies. Thanks for bringing us here!
This was my target cache today, being as it's so old and I love a good multi. This one was a ripper. I feel like we walked all over this park doing the multi and new AdLab, but we never backtracked on ourselves. It's been way too long since The Rustys and I have a cache, a bush walk and a much needed catch-up. Perfect way to spend my fortnightly day off from work.
This cache was on my list of must find caches for this road trip. Tough on this 30plusC day. Up and down the steep, rough tracks I went. I was pleased I brought along plenty of water. I took a short cut on one stage and came out bleeding. Should have stuck to the path. Finally, I had visited all the WPs and was off to GZ. I found the cache and log in okay condition. The bush above it sprinkled dry needle-like leaves on me, which on this hot day, stuck to me, and went down inside my clothing. I came out brushing myself down and shaking my clothes, trying to rid myself of the thin leaves. Very pleased I found this cache, as now I have a cache find for August 2001; wanted for some challengers. TFTC gahpee and Greg and Bev.
The aim of today was to target 4 old caches in the Eastern side of Melbourne to help me with my Ausmer Grid as after completing my D/T grid recently that is the next grid to fill out.
So got up nice and early (On a Sunday who does that) to be able find those and any other ones in the area.
I originally grew up in Ringwood and I remember taking day trips out this way with with the family.
Wandered around the tracks dodging all of the puddles after the recent rain on this nice cool morning visiting and collecting the info as I went.
I soon had a set of coords that looked ok and made my way to GZ.
Soon added my name to the log.
Got a surprise as I hopped out from the bush back onto the track a couple walked by and were wondering what I was up to.
Another oldie ticked off.
Thanks Greg and Bev for keeping this Golden Oldie going for so long for us to head and enjoy the area.
Thanks Greg and Bev TFTC.

While I had planned to do the mega event in Whittlesea, I had also planned to include a couple of extra days either side for some caching. Then I get a call to come earlier and stay with a mate. Well, as things have changed a little personally it seemed like a great way to chill and have some catch up time with them.
We had been working around the house and today was a free day. I mentioned going for a walk in a couple of the national parks. Well I knew I needed this cache for a date I was missing so off we went. What a great cache and the area it took us around was fantastic. It rained a few times while we walked around and the tracks got very slippery.
Was so good to grab this old cache and to read through the original log book. We signed the new book and replaced all as found then headed off to grab another one in the area. Thanks for maintaining and keeping this one going, a favourite point from me.

As the monument at waypoint 1 is currently under wraps, the required information has been temporarily added as a note in the description.
WP1, is currently under traps so we took a look under the cover to get the info needed. Replaced as found. A little wet, but keen to get this one. All other WP's were found and GeoIan worked on the next coords and we got this one.... well done! TFTC and a fav from me.
Chasing vintage caches, and this one was on the radar. So much so, we forgot to look at the others that are here, till too late. That climb was good once, but not again, especially seeing we are going to Mt Lofty next. WP1, is currently under wraps, literally, It is covered by tarps. We havent come from Central Coast of NSW to miss this one, so we took a peek under the covers to get the info we needed. All was replaced so no one would notice. It was a drizzly sort of morning, but we were keen to do this cache, so steeped in History it is. All other Wp's were found and easily converted to the next coords. Final coords were spot on, and i was amazed that the original log was there. Had a quick read of some of the original logs, and flicked through the rest. I enjoyed the walk, and the locations you took us to, so thankyou for keeping this alive. TFTC. Fav from me.
Found and signed with dalerious on another weekend away doing what we both love so very much . This part of East Melbourne is a glorious place to explore, and we do not hesitate to plan a day or two caching here . So many adjectives can be used to describe the area that these mystery caches have been hidden in. Majestic for one, comes to mind and we are grateful to be given the chance to cache here.
We planned our time away as always, strategically, as my man and I only get one full day a week to cache, and I have a fair way before he and I are on the same page, and can start to plan our caching future with the same goals. So it's catch up time for me, and alot of re-visit time for him . So many goals were reached this trip, and I got to sign so many prestigious old caches .
My partner had already signed this cache a couple of years ago, so he let me wonder off to gain the required pieces of information . What a fascinating area to explore, and so much history. I too targeted this cache for a Jasmer slot, and I appreciate it still being around. Bush bashed to gz when I didn't have to, but found the gold at the end of the rainbow anyway.
TFTC and history lesson Greg and Bev .

Thank goodness for e-bikes.
Who thought a hole in the ground could be so interesting?
Can’t imagine how hard life was back in the day.
Thanks for a great adventure.

This one took me a few visits to visit all the waypoints but I got it finished today. I loved the places this bought me to.

Accompanied with silence49. Back again because last time in 2019, had worked out but don't have time. Enjoyed walking around the bush. Plenty to see the historic. We had a great time finding your cache fav from me. Greg and Bev, thank you so much for placing it.
The hardest part about this cache was finding a dry spot to cross the creek! I collected the clues while doing the other multis in the area. Cache was easily spotted on approach.
We have wanted to get this one for so long, worried that it might disappear before we did so. It is incredible to think that this cache is over 20 years old. Thank you for keeping this cache going for so long and for bringing us out here.
Hard to think that this was placed only a couple of years after I moved out of Warrandyte for the last time. Such a shame as I love the area. I have wanted to chase down as many old caches as I can so when we were invited to head out here and grab some old ones, it was a definitely for me.
Thank you for placing this cache and maintaining it for so long.

We had separately eyed off these multis in the park and after some discussion decided that Sunday’s weather would be perfect to get together for some exploring and to tick these off.
We were almost stopped in our tracks at the first hurdle as the creek was swollen and not able to be crossed without some wading. However some locals quickly pointed out we could cross about 10m further along where some much larger boulders made excellent stepping stones.
This multi took us on a great tour of the mountain and paths all over it. We finally made it to GZ and made the find, having picked up some others along the journey.
Thanks gahpee for the cache and for contributing to the game.

It took me almost 2 hour to find it. Let’s just say that I’m looking forward to sitting down!!!
The multi was very enjoyable if a bit strenuous.
I parked in Whipstick Gully road and that probably added some unnecessary hill climbing.
Imagine the diggers having to climb the hill with all their gear before starting their day job in the mines.
Thanks for the cache Greg and Bev.

This was a lot of fun. Did this with my buddy Sonic_5. Loved the history, loved the tracks. Perfect Autumn day for it. Was my first multi cache. Now I know the drill.
Out with my caching buddy Simmo_74 today introducing her to multis. We had an awesome adventure checking out the old mines in the area. We loved the well planned tour of this area. It was interesting to read the old logs from the early naughties. Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for us to discover today Greg and Bev and for keeping it in play for near on 20 years!
#1934 - 6.50pm
This old cache has been on my radar for a number of years, but there never seems to be a day to chase it.
Despite it being Easter Sunday, I was feeling 'antsy' - maybe a bit more than 'antsy', and I needed a walk.
A long walk.
I started off in a random direction and after some time I thought I must be headed somewhere - and I was...
Here, to the Rainbow's End!
I started this multi in twilight at 5.55pm. It was getting darker earlier as the clocks went back last night.
A whiz around some familiar locations, with a couple of new ones thrown in.
Fifty five minutes later I reached GZ in darkness, to the celebratory hooting of nearby owls. The hide was undisturbed and the cache was pristine despite being left rather exposed. After ogling the original logbook and signing myself into the new one, I set about trying to camo this cache in the manner a twenty year old cache with its original logbook deserves - which was easier said than done given I only had my phone light, lol.
Thanks so much, Greg and Bev

i have been to this swimming hole once before – at the start of last year on a blinding hot day
the housemates loaded up the car with towels and a fresh loaf of herb bread and an eskyful of soft drink and dips and came down to chill in the river
back when we could swim in a river with strangers and, sure, we’d consider the nasty viruses that might be making their way into our system but it at least felt like a faint enough possibility to risk the swim
but
sadly it seems like we’ll never get the chance to relive that glorious day in the cool brown waters of the yarra
as signs now declare this pool off-limits on such scorchers
so the search is on for the next great swimming hole

A day off work and the kids at school and a beautiful day gave us a great opportunity to enjoy this area. My wife and I came here for one of our first dates many years ago. It was a great day today. As we crossed the river at the beginning of the walk there was a man legitimately panning for gold and finding it. Great to find two very old caches in a great park with lots of mines and shafts. Dropped a TB and took a TB. TFTC
Yes.. We did it. With 3 kids (age 7, 5 and 2) are it was a lon walk.. Lots of steep hill up. It took us 2.5 hours and they had lots of fun. Thanks.
Found. Great walk. Took us nearly 3 hours with lunch stops. A great day out in the bush.
I've had this one on my list for ages. Given the estimate of the amount of time it would take I was always putting it off for another day, despite how close it is to home.
Today, Mum and I were off for another few hours of caching and I was tossing up between picking up two missing caches from a series around Mt. Lofty and this one. After a virtual coin toss in my head I decided upon this one.
We were surprised to see quite a few cars in the car park given it was such a cool winters day and we saw quite a few people out walking around the trails as we worked our way through the clues, passing close by several other cache locations I've visited over the years.
Happy to quickly find the final location as calculated.
Mum enjoyed the walk - despite the hills. TFTC

Amazing finding such an old cache, with the original logbook too!
This took us quite a bit of the day, and we visited a few places twice while doing the other caches nearby and then this one. Many notes were taken, and I was so glad to get in the car once we had finally finished, I was so stuffed from all the hills.

well this one took us most of the day, whilst finding other caches along the way. Some very interesting spots with a lot of work gone into organizing. Meticulous notes (via ilukaperi) saved the day and we finally had a likely GZ. Wondered over and made the find and was amazed to see an original logbook from 2001 in excellent condition. Thanks so much for placing and maintaining this geocache for all these years! A FAV from me.
This was a heap of fun. Our First geocach and a good one for the kids. There was a bit of maths involved. So ticked off home schooling at the same time.
Loved it.
Loved it.
This cache was the main objective for today's adventure with Kestal and Eskies5. After much walking and climbing and admiring we made it to GZ and got our names in the log. My knees may never be the same again!

Kestal and I met up with Scratches at the airport for a dedicated geo-weekend away with a couple of very specific targets - this being one of them. Arrived here later then expected but thankfully it was a very mild day for tackling the hills so wasn't altogether unpleasant. Thoroughly enjoyed the history but it was even more satisfying when our calculated GZ yielded the cache. TFTC Greg & Bev.
This was was at the top of the list of our target caches and was our main goal for today. With each WP the numbers were crunched and we were able to move on with no problem. Arrived at the final and the hide was found after a short search. Great hide and TFTC Greg and Bev
This be some real ol' timey caching here - still that pre 9/11 tub chock full of loot, original logbook, and ye olde DT rating. I got it done in an hour because I'm not brave enough to explore the tunnel, but I might bring the other Bruces back to have another look around. Thanks Greg and Bev for the guided tour - well worth a favourite.
Spent the week in Melbourne catching up with friends. While on my visit, I targeted Wherigos, Labs, Virtuals and Ausmer/Jasmer caches. I ended up coming away very satisfied with the statistics-based growth. Thanks to all the Cache Owners for their contributions to the game.
Mission accomplished enroute to home the long way. Looking for a few “golden oldies” so this is GOLD! A surprise too and a beaut monument to a historic moment. After that it was up and and up and down but thinking an hour must be some sort of record! TFTC and keeping it always be so let ng
Out with au.fait, we decided to do a few multis in the old gold mining area. It didn’t all go to plan, but ended up being a successful day despite the heat.
We started off well, but ended up taking two hours to complete it as we had one number wrong. Once corrected , we were back on track. A strenuous walk and great history lesson. I wouldn’t have liked to be a miner
Thanks Greg and Bev

Out for a lovely morning of caching which as it happened extended well into the afternoon. Our first priority was to seek the pot of gold in the form of a smile at the end of the rainbow. Up hill and down again as we collected information from the several informative signs. As we carefully made our way down a particularly steep track echo said she hoped we didn’t have to come back up. Yes we did. Finally to GZ and that hard earned smile. With that completed we turned our attention to another nearby multi, only to discover we’d just walked almost past it, so back we went to collect that pot of gold. Not too difficult. Finally the 3rd in this area but further away. A short drive and a short walk to bring us to the first waypoint. We couldn’t believe we had already walked both down and the up that steepest track earlier in the day. With the Cöoper finally sorted it was back up that very steep track and an even steeper goat track. And it was getting very hot. Finally flushed with heat and success we called it a day This has earned us a doctorate with honours in how to make simple things more difficult A great time with lots of talk, walk, great company, and great caching. Thanks for the challenges
An unexpected trip almost to Melbourne as dalerious wanted Ausmer caches.
So we loaded up Harry Saturday morning, drove and cached until we pitched the tent on the side of a road Saturday night[|)][xx(][|)], slept[^] and then cached Sunday until it was time to head back to Shepparton.
20 caches were found, including the 3 oldies [^] that dalerious particularly wanted to find
dalerious had targetted this cache for it's age [^] and then I added a previous DNF of mine in this area to the to do list, too
So we felt it only right [^] to do all 3 multis in this area before we found somewhere for tea.[^]
The creek was cool, the information interesting[^], the torch came in handy and the cache was found
Gorgeous area [:X] and the pot of gold at the Rainbow's End was special enough to leave us smiling! [^]

Found with locus cache @5:33pm.
This weekend was all about chasing older "Jasmer challenge" caches.
Well for me it was anyway as locus cache's calendar grid looks a lot healthier than mine. By the time we headed for home however, I had filled 6 more slots including 3 from 2001 (this one and two others) among the 20 caches we found without a single DNF.
This grandfather cache was the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow that we had come to this park to find. [^]
Such a bonus that it was a great multi showcasing a ton of history and a nice surprise to explore with a good torch.
TFTC Greg and Bev. A favourite point with thanks for pioneering this game I so love and thanks for keeping the dream alive. [^]

As we approached GZ the GPS lost reception so we had to go by the clue alone. Lucky we were close enough to make the find.
I certainly do pick the day for a long walk. All was clear when I set off but with each step the skies grew darker until they could hold it in no longer...rain and hail enlivened the rivulets tearing through the paths...what the water could not go through it went around.
In the midst of this I managed to get all the way to the GZ and make a quick find. TNLN. TFTC.

Find #4158. Found @ 17:53 with The Good Lady Wife.
I've been meaning to come for an attempt at this one for a while, as it is an oldie (for a hidden month I don't have). Today was the day, with the geocachelettes off on a camping adventure, it meant that an outing a little further from the normal stomping grounds was a possibility.
Interestingly, we drive almost directly past here on the way through to Kinglake, but normally have a trailer-load of equipment at the time.
We parked at the nominated parking spot and had a stroll to WP1, where we collected the required information, and crunched numbers. More of a stroll with collecting, crunching, and this time, investigating the mine. It is a pity that you can't access very far to get a feel for what it might have been like underground.
More walking, more collecting, and more number crunching. Rinse and repeat, until we got to the last location.
I made a hash of the approach and went way further than I needed to, and made much more difficult than I needed. With our names in the log, all that was left was to make our way back to the car and get some dinner on the way home.
Took nothing, left nothing, signed log and visited some trackables.
Thanks for the cache, and needed placed month, gahpee

Being the first time in Australia, Jobär and me, we had to decide about geocaching or looking for some touristic spots (and even sometimes both at the same time). We were prepared at least for the grandfathers of a cache which had to be done to fill our matrix. After leaving Melbourne, we had three of these old caches on our list for today. This was the second one, which showed us to a very interesting part of Victorias history. We gathered all nessessary information for the final stage at the end of the rainbow. Unfortunately we could not find any gold - not in the creek nor in the box, but funny enough, we have befriended friends in Berlin: Team Regenbogen (which means Rainbow) and Team Minnimannis (with Mammut "Manni" as talisman), and what we found in the box at the end of the rainbow was a mammut, which made as really laugh, when we told our friends. Thanks for bringing us here and many greetings from Germany. Instead of gold, I left a FP.
On our tour with a campervan through southeast of Australia minebine and me had a to do list with old caches. Today start8ing in Melbourne we had three on todays caching plan. This was the second one. We parked our campervan and walked on. We got all solutions quickly, but neede some time for the walk. Thank you for maintainig this old cache.
We are sorry no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Wow - this is the oldest cache I’ve ever found!
After chatting only yesterday with the CO about geocaching, it was high time to see if I could find this one of his. As I drove up a fox crossed the road, and nearby a large, plodding beast revealled itself to be a deer. I wasn’t sure how I’d go navigating through the forest, but it was no problem at all. The management vehicle tracks were really obvious, the satellite access was very good, all the coordinates were spot on, and the signs were easy to find. It took me around an hour and soon I had the 18-year-old logbook in hand.
Thanks for the enjoyable walk, the chance to nose around a couple of old mine shafts, and also the opportunity to learn a bit more about the gold fields.
TFTC gahpee and for keeping this one going all these years

I've had this one on my radar for a while due to it's age and the month being missing on my months found calendar. I've never really had the time when I've been out this way before so it's had to sit there unsolved. Today though I had the day to myself so made a beeline for this cache. I spent an enjoyable morning exploring the various historical sites around here and getting some exercise in the meantime. After gathering all of the clues and calculating gz I carefully guided myself down and quickly spotted the cache with accurate coordinates. Thanks for the historical tour and for maintaining this historical cache Greg and Bev.
Found on a cache run with phlphotos, Tardis and Team Merlin. The things we do for these caching challenges.
Down in Melbourne with teamMerlin, TARDIS 0061 & alnic39 to grab a few interesting caches this was one of the top of our lists as a multi and within the first 2 years of geocaching a fun multi getting the info. Once the calculation had been made headed off to GZ where TARDIS 0061 made the discovery
With cache in hand we signed the log and replaced as found. Both the cache and log are in good condition. Thanks for bringing me to the area and thanks for placing the cache Greg and Bev

Came through with TARDIS 0061, phlphotos and alnic39 on a cache run. This particular cache had been on our must get list of caches whilst in Melbourne for two reasons - 1) it is an Old School cache; and 2) it filled in a missing month for the Ausmer Challenge down in Bowral. Collecting all of the required numbers we calculated GZ and after a short search TARDIS 0061 made the find. After signing our names, we returned as found and continued on to the next cache on our list. Thanks for the Old School multi Greg and Bev.
The following TBs came through for the mileage : Bob geoMinion, Dave geoMinion, Evil geoMinion, Jerry geoMinion, Larry geoMinion, Mary Hyde's Treasure, Stuart geoMinion, teamMerlin's 7 Deadly Ducks Tag (Lust), Vanlith The Youngling, Hidden Creatures Geocoin TB.

Out caching with friends while attending the Parkville Event and had a wonderful time exploring the area looking for the different waypoint information. Also it is pleasing to see these older caches surviving. Thanks Greg and Bev.
This was our first day in Melbourne. We ventured out and parked the car. Went and solved each waypoint - we walked here and we walked there, up and down tracks until we had the final waypoint worked out and off we went to find. After searching, it was soon found. This cache is worthy of a FP. TFTC Greg and Bev.
A great fun day out after flying into Melbourne for the Parkville Mega, catching up with a few Great Geocaching Friends and headed off caching in the suburbs.
Thanks for sharing the history of this area.

Our first day in Melb with an early start to find several caches with geo friends before the Event tonight. This was a very rewarding multi and most enjoyable gathering all the WP's whilst learning so much about the history of this area. Nice little scramble up to find the oldie, neat hide and a favorite point from me.

My apologies for this late logging. I just found my notes for several caches we found while down attending the Parkville Event that we missed logging. We did this great cache with Joojoo57 and RichmondLad. We enjoyed it immensely and thank the CO for creating it.
Cheers and happy caching!

First day of the Parkville adventure out with friends picking up a few here and there.
Arrived into Melbourne at 9.15am and after picking up the hire car, we were off to our first cache which was this one. Met our other caching friends in the car park and started our hike finding the WP's and clues to find the final.
No trouble finding it and with our names in the log, we were off in search of the other multi here.
Lovely walk with some uphill to get the heart pumping.
Interesting sights along the way: bees swarming around a hive high in a gum tree and a fellow searching for gold near the creek.

After the wattle day event, the plan was to drive out of town and find some unique multis. When someone recommends finding a geocache in the early 21st century, nobody's more excited than me! We hunted, gathered, and then found the cache at gz, with perfect coordinates and a logbook 17 years old, in perfect health! I was able to sign my name on a book placed when I was a kid!!! Amaze feels! FP awarded!

After the Wattle Day Event at the Botanic Gardens we adjourned to Warrandyte to try our luck on a couple of very old multicaches.
This was our first find in the area and it was interesting to read back through the original log book.
Thank you for placing and maintaining this cache for such a long time Greg and Bev.
We noted that the second to find here was 17 years ago tomorrow and that was also Father's Day.
A favorite point for all of this and the history lesson too.

One of our group found this particular cache to be particularly important in filling a calendar slot. I didn't mind an extra multi with a bit of a walk thrown in for good measure. We all marvelled at the log book which has remained intact, perfectly legible and in fantastic condition for 17 years. It is these sorts of caches which give fabric and body to our hobby/sport. Thanks for placing and maintaining this one Greg and Bev. Although a meagre reward, please have a favourite point for your troubles.

I've been wanting to do this great old cache for a long time, to fill in that month in my matrix, and having nothing else planned decided that today would be the day.
Things went well at the monument at WP1 after a closer inspection requiring a creek crossing, The information was old and fading, just like my eyesight, and, well, me for that matter.
Eventually after a bit of up and down, well mainly up, I arrived at WP 2 and gleaned the information from that very interesting sign without any problems, or so I thought.
Wp3 ...nothing ....rechecked the photo I took at WP2 on my phone, dragged it bigger, then saw something I'd missed, and readjusted.
While I did this, I could hear two people yelling "I HATE YOU" and many expletives, which I've deleted. I wondered if I was about to get involved in a marital stoush or something, but found a pair of young people throwing rocks at the stone quarry wall near WP3 and yelling as they did it. That's one way to work it all out of your system, relatively harmlessly, I suppose. They didn't calm down much when they saw me, which was a bit unsettling, but I pushed on.
I retrieved the information from WP3 and then climbed up to WP4 which was the highest point in my quest. All very interesting. All the mine shafts and other features were amazing.
With the final coordinates in my grasp, I headed off to find the cache.
This took a few minutes after I arrived there, but find it I did.
It was in very good condition considering its age, and the log book made great reading. I started caching about 6 months after this one was placed, and a lot of those names have faded into history.
I really enjoy a cache like this, and it gets a fav point for the significance, the history, the location and the adventure. I took nothing but left a pathtag.

Great work learning about the history of the local area and the gold mining. Thank you for bringing my daughter and I here It is a lovely walk some hills but we managed despite the showers and a great pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Fabulous to see such an old cache
Back in Victoria we picked up a few caches along the way and this was one of them.
We enjoyed exploring the area and each WP, gathered the required information and made a quick find at GZ due to accurate co-ordinates.
Good to fill a hole in the calander with this oldie.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment.

This old multi was part of the plan for my holidays and it fitted perfectly in today's route after visiting the Yarra wine region . So we climbed the hill, gathered all infos to continue from stage to stage until the big box was mine . Thanks for bringing me closer to Australian mining history and of course

Well this cache gave us a bit of a workout, as we moved between the waypoints the heavens opened and we used the car to move between closer access to the waypoints in an attempt to keep dry, we were pleased when our final numbers looked good and we were both happy to add our names to the logbook since this cache is a date filler for us both.
After agreeing to go to my first mega with Goose of Gooseandegg it was soon clear it was to be a big trip to the mainland from Tassie, after both our wives declined to join us for the trip we started our planning picking out a few caches that we should work on before we headed over Bass strait, puzzles and wherigos were where we needed to start.
Many many hours were spent on puzzles and getting ourselves to locations so we could work on a couple wherigos took its toll on our cars and in my case my body.
Three weeks before the Mega me and Mrs SSRat were out caching in the northwest of Tasmania, and I fell and broke some ribs so for a bit the Alex trip was in doubt, in the end the trip was on but tree climbs were out of the question.
In the end we had a great long weekend finding some great caches and filling in couple of missing dates for our calendar’s, thanks to all the CO's for putting and maintaining all the caches we found.

Stainless steel rat and I arrived in Melbourne around 9.30am. We had an exclusive but wide-spread selection of caches chosen for the drive to Alexandra. This was a missing calendar month for both of us so it was a must do.
Friday was hot and humid so after enjoying WP1 we were not so excited about the hike to WP2 and as we were part way there the heavens opened. It was a bit of a relief even though we were soaked through within minutes. We worked out WP3 and just about fell in a heap when we realized how far it was. In studying the map I realized there was an easier way so we retreated for a bit and found an alternative route. We may have made this 'creative' manoeuvre a second time to help us along. At WP4 we were pleased with our calculations and were soon uncovering that elusive hide and filling in another hole on the calendar. Thanks Greg and Bev (gahpee) for the workout and for bringing us to a really interesting area. Oh, in case you were wondering, we dried out fairly quickly in the heat after the rain stopped.
