It's only really through stalking Scrub Bull hides would I have ever heard the word Cilento. And it wasn't until I was planning today's outing that I recognised it's a waterfall in a small park so close to Nambour. But, this is why geocaching exists, right? To highlight attractions we'd otherwise miss. This afternoon, there was to be an event on the Sunshine Coast, so I decided to maximise my day, drive up early and smash through some choice geocaches.
Thankfully I do enjoy an archived find when it presents itself, and as such knew to look at this listing. Not particularly unloved, but the recent find gave me hope. Foolishly, I didn't download the data I needed before leaving home, which meant a tedious process on my phone to screenshot required co-ordinates. This would be a time when the official app lets me down. "But sometimes" is no excuse though!
Just a couple hours ago, a lockdown beginning in a couple of hours time had been announced. And I'm hours from home. I parked up, and headed into the park, ready to dodge people. There were so few around, and I quickly located the entrance to the track. Along the whole walk, I'd see a total of 3 other people. Safe to say I more or less had the place to myself. And that feels rare for this place, especially in the summer months.
Not knowing too much what to expect, I walked along, hopped over the rocks at the top, zig-zagged down the otherside, and popped out at the falls. That's sure unexpected! A little natural treat, not so far from civilisation. I stayed a while, enjoying the falls flowing, poking some rocks and snapping a photo before carrying on.
As I climbed up the track, the phone slowly guided me to where I needed to go and as usual, I needed to go bush. Then bush a bit more. Phone does go slow with such tree cover, but I'm cool with that. I wouldn't have to look much or far, because a few metres from GZ, I spotted a logbook out in the open. It'd clearly seen better days' the bottom half of pages ripped out, the remainder having been very wet in the past.
Really bad news to see a geocache so destroyed! I scoured the area for a couple dozen metre radius. I located the square hole where the container once was, but turned up no other remnants. Just a few signs that maybe some people have been hanging out nearby lately. I consulted with my geocaching brains trust, and we agreed, half a logbook is not a long-lasting geocache. Thus I removed the last of it. Time of death: 11:33.
How sad! And it pains me to bring the end of a Scrub Bull geocache, but it's time had come. Even as an archived geocache! Either way, I am thrilled that I got to visit this place, and that a geocache lasted here so long. Thank you for this geocache, Scrub Bull

24/5/20 Find #3683
Fangsoki and I were out and about around the Sunny Coast district today grabbing some lab caches and visiting one of Fangsoki’s mates to have a play in his Unimog. Having taken it for a carpark test run and all, it was time to head off towards Mapleton, but Fangsoki made a quick detour here for me first.
Parking the car we wandered on down and before Fangsoki knew it I was headed off track with him questioning my obvious understanding of coords.... “I thought it was much further down, are you sure you’ve got the right area and right cache?!” Yes Fangsoki, I have done this caching thing before you know ??
Soon he realised I was right, but not having uncovered the cache, he came in to join me and with a bit of a poking around, soon uncovered the rather mud covered cache. Apart from said mud, the container was still in good condition, however the contents inside were absolutely drenched. Have managed to make my mark on the paper of the bagged logbook (the other logbook is showing signed of black mould), tip out some water, and replace cache where found.
Thanks for the cache Scrub Bull, it was a pleasure to be able to find another Scrub Bull cache, even if it is archived.

Boo yeah!!!. Three attempts, and with clarification from the previous finder, I just couldn’t find it. Something told me to come back again with fresh eyes and no expectations to check out a location I’d glossed over before. Lo and behold - there she was! Nothing like the closure of finding a nemesis cache ??. Quite glad it’s still there for other fans to discover. Contents were very wet unfortunately. The original log book was complete mush and the replacement was only just signable. And I just noticed that’s 6years of loggers on one page (bar a handful of days)!

Out during school hours for a caching adventure between Palmwoods and Nambour, picking up some hitherto unfound caches.
Archived caches always draw my attention, even though many are long gone and those that are found usually take some serious detective work to locate. This one was the latter, it took a bit of searching before an area of interest caught my attention, and a little pile of bark pieces looked rather cachey. At first glance nothing was revealed, but after some scratching and digging through the mulch and decomposing wood, a hollow tapping noise emanate d from below my stick, and a container was raised from the murky, dirty depths!
The container is in great shape, though the contents are a bit soggy, but that's to be expected from 2+ years of rainfall and no finds.
It was great to be able to find this one, it was returned with the same telltale little pile to help other future archived hunters looking for the Lost Ark of the covenant!

To think, this cache has been here for over two years without one interaction... Just sitting, waiting and watching time pass by.
I do have to thank the previous finder of this cache for introducing me to these forgotten treasures. There is something about that moment you see and then touch such a forgotten item that creates a feeling of exploration and wonder.
I had found myself in the area of Nambour today and with a little spare time I thought that I might grab a geocache (dar, what else would one do with spare time...!). After a check of the map it was not looking very promising. Most of the caches in this area I had already visited and the map unfortunately did not offer up any treats for me today. It was then when the light bulb moment occurred... I had made a PQ of the forgottens a few weeks ago and from memory, there was a cache on that list nearby that might be of interest.
After loading up the listing, I headed off towards a familiar area. Once there, I was not the only one... There were actually quite a few cars and a few different groups of Muggles in the park. Knowing the area from the other few caches here, I knew that I still had a good chance of a hunt as I was able to disappear into the hidden areas beyond the Muggle zone.
I followed the path along until I got about in line with the cache and then disappeared into Mother Nature. My GPS was telling me that I was about in the right area but would not lock onto any real given spot. But, there was one spot that was instantly standing out to me. After inspection, I was getting a feeling that today was not going to be the day. I widen the search a little, nothing... 'Hmmm'. I thought that whilst here, I might take a moment to ground a little energy from nature as this spot has such a unique feeling.
Then whilst just sitting and examining my surroundings provided by Mother Nature, I don't know how I missed it when coming in, there was a spot that just had a cachey feeling to it. It was not where I was being told to be, but the feeling was just too strong. Once there, I peeked around and what would you know, there it was, slightly uncovered and just crying out for a visit. I took a moment to sit and respectfully removed the cache like a forgotten artifact all whilst being ever so gentle as to not cause any damage.
I was excited to see that the container was in great shape. Then, in my mind as I was opening the cache I heard a 'hiiissss' sound and a envisioned a splash of light flow from the cache (not unlike to that of when opening a treasure chest in a video game). Though unfortunately it appears that time and being forgotten has allowed quite a bit of water and moisture to accumulate in this cache. There was an old log which was sodden and a new bagged log which was also very wet, though I was still able to get my name on the paper.
I tipped out the excess water though not actually caching today, I did not have my kit on me and was not able to perform the proper maintenance this cache requires. It really needs a good dose of TLC. Next time I am in the area, I will grab the cache and give it the maintenance it requires and attempt to rescue the logs, past and present.
Thanks for the cache and experience Scrub Bull. All is still here sitting and patiently waiting for the next lucky finder to come along.

I had just enjoyed a yummy pastry from the Mapelton bakery while sitting next to the falls. What a lovely location to sit and ponder and nibble on baked goods It was time to go but I thought I'd try my luck with this one first.
I took the direct route to the cache and ended up running into some scratchy lantana but hey, it's just not caching unless you come out bleeding I eventually untangled myself and made it to GZ. Hmmm, well like looks like a likely spot for a cache! On closer inspection of the obvious location I spotted the beasty. I pulled it from it's hidey hole, signed the log and then replaced as I had found it.

On a quick trip through Nambour I just had enough time to find a couple of old caches that have been on my todo list. It was more difficult to find a car park than it was to find the cache as my GPSr was spot on and led me straight to it. The old container is still in good shape and there are some great signatures in this log book! TFTC
Found it. Still some swaps, container a little damp but log book dry. Thank you
On the way down to the cache Below the Falls, we had a quick stop to get this cache. With no one else around it made it easy to search and it wasn't long and we had it. Signed the log and put this one back just the way we found it. All real good with this cache. TFTC
After finding the other cache down the bottom where I had met a couple of muggles we headed back up the path and soon came to the area for this one and to show how easy this game is I walked over and plucked the cache out of it's hiding spot as the first place that I looked.
Good to get another archived cache. I added a new log book as the original is quite damp.
Thanks Scrub Bull

Visiting here from Canada and showing our Aussie friends geochaching. We had 2 GPS' with us and both showed different coordinates for GZ. Therefore this took us awhile but we would not give up. I am sure the Mom in the park thought we were up to no good as we were back and forth. Eventually we narrowed the location and our cacher in training found it. Nice hide. Container is very wet inside and the log quite damp. TTB Thanks for this fun cache.

Top cache to find. Did the walk to falls. Brilliant. Thanks for this worthy cache.
What a beautiful part of the world. Went for the walk to waterfall and glad we did, how nice! Thanks Scrub Bull for bringing us here! Couldn't sign log, too interested in having BBQ to remember to bring pen. TNLN
Highly recommend walking the full loop via the waterfall and back to the car park.I've never yet managed to get a picnic table here as there are only two and it's a lovely spot. The log book is moldy but it was still possible to write in it. I replaced the brocken glad bag. Thanks Scrub Bull.
Managed to walk over to this park this morning from a nearby motel and was gald I did. I notced many people were wandering where this path went to and they would kick themselves for not venturing a little further. Just a very short walk down the track and you find a great little waterfall which was flowing a gusher this morning after some heavy overnight rain.
Thanks Scrub Bull this is one of those special geocaching places that I would never have otherwise known about

Out and about on a cache raid of the Sunshine Coast. Didn't take long to find this one T4TC.
A lovely little park complete with families playing on the swings. Cache located out of sight so no trouble locating it. TFTC and tNN
Nice spot. Tree cover proved to hinder the GPS a little. Persistence paid off. TNLN, TFTC.
Found this one with a few others in the area today. Had the geotoddler with me in the pram! (not recommended unless you've got a tough pram) Its the first one we've found together so it's kinda special. TNLNSL TFTC
NyletaM and I stopped here and found the most likely path to the GZ.
(We did have a conversation on the height of the steps on the path, deciding that they should be shortened a bit)
After a short stroll down the path with geobub on my back, we noticed a likely cache hiding spot.
NyletaM searched it and the cache was found.

With the geobub riding shotgun we gound this cache quickly and in a fairly obvious spot. Nothing like some steep steps to let you know how out of shape you are. TFTC
I had another 16 metres to go when I thought, "that would be a good spot for a cache". Gave it a poke as I went past and bugger me if the cache didn't appear . 16 more metres??? I didn't ask any questions, TN/LN/SL and put it back where I found it. Picked up the GPSr and it now said 1 metre [:(!]. Ahh well, you get that with a scrub bull cache.
geodaughter found this one with a geofriend and took bug, will move it on its way soon TFTC
Picked this one up on our visit to see how the waterfall was doing. Soggy track but cache safe and dry. Forgot our pen so didn't sign the log - oops. TNLN TFTC Scrub Bull, its nice to find a few of yours!
Great little park and one for for the bird lovers too.A lot of king parrots around .Love the old radio valve, brought us back in time.

A lovely weekend exploring the Sunshine Coast cache by cache. We were on our way home so we didn't have time for the full walk. This part was lovely. I'm surprised it isn't more developed. Cache was found after stopping our wanderings and looking around us. TFTC

Round and round the patch of bush to find this one! Thanks for the cache, Scrub Bull.
Found while I took the kids the nearby playground.
The GPS took me about 10-12 metres from the cache and after deciding to abort the search due to the ever thickening cloud of mozzies, I walked past a likely hiding spot, and "hey presto" there was the cache.
Took a ring and left a finger monster.

I started out looking for the Cilento caches before 9 this morning, but it was already hot and sticky by then! No luck first up at Cilento Falls cache - at first I was at the top of the falls with my GPS saying GZ is here, I was more inclined to think it was at the bottom, but I didn't find it in either place! The heat put me off looking for too long though. GPS was a little off on this one, but I had looked at this hiding spot on the way in to GZ and thought, that's a hiding spot! TFTC Left an eclipse tin, took stickers.
Wandered along to this cache. Bit of bounce on the GPS. Decided to do a quick search manually. Found it. Thought we would go back to top to see if another way to the falls. Couldn't see one, so left that for another time.
You beauty!! Another one of the Sunshine coast's hidden parks [^]
Even in an area with so many beautiful hidden gems, this one really stands out. A lovely bit of rainforest for a stroll and the best was yet to come further along the trail where another cache lay in wait
Today was an ideal day to experience the rain forest too! Absolutely 100 percent humidity in here today [:o]

After giving weroamin some bogus coords, I had to come clean as I was laughing too much watching him go the wrong way. Even with the right coords though (I don't think he'll trust any coords I give him in the future), weroamin still came in a close second. I've found several caches in this paticular type of hide. TFTC
Mikey Moo gave me a handicap with this one by providing the wrong co-ordinates. Father son rivalry I guess but he'll keep. With the correct co-ords this was in a caches obvious place but a good hide none the less. TFTC TNLN
Out doing a maintenance run repairing all my flooded caches. This cache is good to go again.
On the road and on the hunt for caches, we parked uphill of this one, and decided to try for both in this park. Cilento was first. A nice easy find, at 1230 hrs. Now for the other cache.

A nice hidden park with a cache or two in it. Found only the one (my 3YO wanted to walk to this one even though it was somewhat steep for him), though it was well hidden in the obvious location.
Thanks for the walk down to the cache (i hated the walk back up with the kids )

1125hrs. FTF. A great area we didn't know about. A bit of bush bashing then the GPS settled and there it was.

Well today was the day the fairer half of the team went caching for the first time on her own. Lets just say it's not her navigational skills that gets the team to GZ. With lots of tree cover about - not a hope of this little duck finding the cache. TFTH anyway Scrub Bull.
