First of four for today. We learned about RED TIDE on this trip!! As soon as we hit the beach we started coughing! And everyone around us was coughing. When we returned to the condo the coughing immediately stopped. What the??!! We talked to some locals and it turns out this is the worst outbreak of red tide they remember. It's caused by an algae called Karenia Brevis. The algae's toxins are carried by the sea breezes causing running noses and coughing.
One of those tenacious sticker things people are talking about jumped onto my toe. Saw a pretty big dead ray of some sort floating in the water nearby. Smelly place. Hey, the name of the cache just dawned on me. Appropriate! TFTC.
