[green]Find #3299[/green]... Cool

Well, well, well... I happened to be in the right place at the right time yesterday... I was planning to come back & do the CITO this morning, but found myself invited to share a boat... As much as I enjoyed the paddle yesterday the boat was so much faster... [^]

A beautiful morning to be out & about with Wesso & spinna76... A big thanks to them both and in particular my ‘skipper’ Scott (for allowing me safe passage) and to ‘tag along’ with for a few smilies that I would otherwise not have got… Big Grin

After a brief search, we made the find, but try as we may, we could not crack the rusted cache... Twisted Have photo as proof of find... What a fantastic day to be out and about enjoying a cruise along this beautiful river... Smile Great company & many laughs...

Thanks for bringing me here d.d.dudes and for the cache... Big Grin

It was decided at seirra1's anniversary event yesterday that SnapHappy, Wesso Family and myself would return today to do the CITO event and clean some of the shore line of the Maroochy River. Whilst out on the boat cleaning up we also cleaned up some caches along the way. Some new and some old ones. I knew this one was going to be a difficult one but located it quite quickly however signing the log was going to be difficult as the container was rusted shut. I took to it with the fork of a tree and then resorted to a pair of pliers without success. I have a photo of the container as proof if required Mr d.d.dudes ~ TFTC Smile

The previous day at Ken’s Anniversary Event, Spinna76, Snap Happy and me decided to come back today and do the CITO event and also make a big assault on the caches that we hadn’t found on the Maroochy River.

We set off from the boat ramp near the Scout Camp and made our way up river, visiting all the caches along the way. There were some thrills and spills along the way with two kayaker, being towed by our boat (Not mentioning any names), with them ending up in the river for a little swim.

We managed to find this cache after a little search, but unfortunately Spinna76 tried unsuccessfully to open the bison with what tools he had in the boat. (Photo taken)

TFTC d.d.dudes - This ones needs some maintenance as previously reported

Pulled up and set off on foot. Surprisingly not as bad as I was expecting, just a few muddy spots.

Arrived at GZ and set about the search. Finally located and tried opening. As others have said, container appears rusted shut. Photos taken as proof if required by CO.

After bushbashr came and couldn't open I went down to have a go and yes definitely sealed closed, more determined to sign the log now, so I return a second time with 2 pairs of multi grip pliers and wd40, being eaten alive by mozzies to not succeed. Needs a whole new container and log this one is definitely un openable, after my hard effort I'm claiming a find?!!

Container is rusted closed. Couldn't sign log.

After reading previous logs I had mentally prepared myself for a mud fest but it wasn't that bad. I was assuming waist high mud but it was only ankle deep, especially if you step on the mangroves. I executed my usual attack by marking GZ then searching for there. I spent 30 mins looking for what I thought it would look like...but nothing. Now that I know I didn't need to negotiate waist deep mud I legged it back to the car to get my phone to read previous logs. Upon returning to GZ I rebooted my GPSr and started searching again( after verifying all the information again). My GZ was the same spot again and still I was coming up empty...hmmm. I widened my search area to likely hides in the area and still came up empty. Hmmm. Didn't really look good for this one, so I PAF, a previous finder, so PapaSmurf came over from his nearby house to have a look....Still nothing, and my GZ was good, extremely good apparently. After discussion I offered the option that the tree had broken and it had fell apart on the ground... And there it was, the cache that hadn't been found for nine months. The logbook was in a state of disrepair but I came prepared for that but I still had to leg it back to the car to grab a couple of things to restore the cache . A bit of repair work, a repositioning of the cache, a new log sheet and the cache lives on. Kiki97 signed the log as well and it was time to negotiate the mud again. We stood at the car park for a while looking at the remains and the activity on the water surface. There's a small sign to confirm the historical importance of such location, and ponder what things used to be.

Thanks for the cache d.d dudes.

Mozzies best me. Great spot. Searched gz for 15 min but even with plenty of repellent still not enough protection. May be next visit.

Having a low tide and a period of no rain, the dreaded mud creek crossing was a piece of cake!Big Grin
Cache found quickly once at GZ, but container is in need of some TLC and a new dry log.
After reading all the horror stories about this cache, it turned out to be quite tame.

2nd time lucky for this one Big Grin. I parked the car and quickly realised that there was a massive high tide Surprised. From our last effort, i knew to ditch the thongs at the start and make my way barefoot Wink. Now how deep is that water [?]. Put it this way … luckily, i took everything out of my pockets, including my phone and GPSr, as my shorts went under Surprised

After wading through the water to where we were last searching, i checked the GPSr for guidance. WHAT, 50m that way Surprised. I restarted the GPS, and got the smartphone going as well … both said 50m that way [:(!]. No wonder we couldn't find it last time Sad

I backtracked to the track, and proceeded to follow the arrow until i was at the new GZ, where i found the treasure quickly … right where it should be Razz. The log is deteriorating, but i still managed to sign it. So many mozzies here … they were trying to bite my eyeballs, because that was the only place that i didn't put repellant on Wink

There was no one around when i entered the track/creek, but as i was coming back out, there were about 5 cars parked there with boats and people everywhere Surprised. You should have seen the look on their faces as i waded out of the water …. GOLD [^]. I just told them i left something down there when i was fishing the other day Wink

Thanks d.d.dudes, a memorable one for sure Big Grin

Found today on a visit to Sunshine Coast. Donned the gum boots for this one and crossed the creek, first by the stepping stone and then had to judge whether the water would go over the top of the gum boots as the tide was coming in. Log was damp but writable. TNLN TFTC Thanks d.d.dudes

Nope … i had a good look for about 1/2 hr with the whole crew watching on, who were very patiently standing in about an inch of water and spiky grass with no shoes (thongs got stuck in the mud back a bit Sad). Eventually had to give in as the new addition is not getting any lighter and is quite a weight to hold up for any length of time. GPS was keen on one area, but no joy for us today. Could have been worse … the mozzies weren't around. TFTH d.d.dudes

The mozzies were amassing for this one. Hint: Don't stand still for too long. I decided to go for this one before setting off in the kayak for a nearby cache. I am glad I went in my "kayak shoes" - the mud was really deep. I made my way to GZ and started the hunt. After letting the GPSr change its mind several times, I came up with the well hidden beast. The log in this one is starting to disiengrate - but is in good enough condition to write on. TFTC d.d.dudes Smile

Set out on a paddling adventure with Team DFL for this series. Arrived in Bli Bli just as the tide turned to go out. This was the last cache in the series before we returned on the (welcome) outgoing tide. I think the mosquitoes hitched a ride from "3 Banks" and continued the harrassment. Not so much water around that the scuba booties couldn't handle. Tricky little hide, but perseverence and a few mozzie slap dances and the cache was soon in hand. As the previous cachers have said, lots of salt inside, but the log is still relatively dry. TFTC. Big Grin

Never been here before. Great spot and a great bit of history. Thanks. Log still dry - but very salty.

Yes, well the less said about muddy shoes the better. Red Face
Mrs George and I spent quite a while searching, but finally found the cunning device. Fortunately the log was dry enough to write on, if rather small. The Cache attachment though is suffering corrosion from the salt environment.
Interesting history of the wharf! TFTC.

Interesting spot that I didn't know about. Glad I wore my old shoes as suggested. The log paper has been very wet and could do with replacing. Thanks d.d. dudes for a clever hide.

Once the GPS settled down walk straight to GZ.

With the clue in the back of my mind (it was the geowife yelling it to me from the boat) it was soon in hand.

VERY VERY VERY FRUSTRATING. The GPS was continually putting me in a region, BUT NO CACHE - AT ALL. ONE HOUR later - left! (and yes, I searched according to the clues also - IN A VERY WIDE AREA)

A very frustrating FTF. I'd spent nearly half hour searching for this one and the GPS was a bit unsteady. I was going to give up but decided to turn the GPS off, have a rest and a think of what and where I'd been. I turned the GPS back on and it was pretty steady, but I'd already searched where it was pointing.

Back I went and actually searched this time and "Viola", there it was laughing at me.

Thanks for a great hunt, I learnt a bit more today.

Took - Geocoin
Left - Blue gills TB

I nearly forgot the FTF reward, a compass, which I'll definately need.
