# 3815. Out caching around Sale this morning with Robmc and doing the Port of Sale series along the way. It does look so strange to see this old signal box and the signals right here in the heart of shopping town and the other set in the supermarket car park. Sale certainly seems to have demolished a lot of its history and started afresh, for whatever reason. This was a sneaky hide and took me a few looks before I finally spotted it. TFTC Robmc.
This series has been taking up prime positions around Sale for too long. Time for something new for the locals to do.
Thanks to all the cachers who have helped with maintenance of this series over the years.
Thanks, Robmc.

Took a friend new to Geocaching today here. She found it and was soooo excited. Good find- a little tricky for us as iphone compass was swinging wildly. A few muggles around- but successfully covert I had not realised the train line went through there as recently as the 80s!
TFTC- fantastic!

In Sale for work this afternoon. Stopped by and got a coffee at the shopping centre then walked over to GZ to find this cache in this interesting and unique spot. Tftc robmc
# 5461 Found on a warm evening first trip around the middle of Sale.
Nice and quiet and no muggles around while I was here.
Another rather quick find contrary to what I was expecting as I approached.
TN LN SL Thanks for the Cache Robmc,
Roostaman.

Not to hard to find, getting it and replacing it betwen the mugglers can be a problem. TFTC.
YAY - found it today on New Year's Day 2013. It's great to see that these original railway structures are still here as a sign of times gone by. It's a pity that progress and shopping centres just have to take over. Thanks Robmc for setting up this cache
TFTC GPS was a bit all over the place but finally settled and got it. Needs new bag for log if anyone has one. Dry in the meantime if you replace it in the right way. You're right - does look a bit weird having the signal box out in the middle of nowhere.
I have made a short stop in this nice city and could find this cache easy.
Thanks for the cache and greetings from Germany.

A quick find by my non-geo fiance whilst I was still reading the previous logs. Another piece of history about Sale that I didn't know about before. The signal box and signals look quite surreal against the backdrop of the shopping centre, especially the signal post in the car park.
Thanks Robmc for a bit of education.

Quick find by mrs millsy031. We're warming up to the weekend of caching around Lakes Entrance!!! TFTC!
Quick find today with Chaplain Mike. Find one of six for the day. SL TFTC!
We had found this one several years ago with caching friends. At the time we hadn't signed up as official cachers, so were unable to claim it as a find. It was in the exact same spot, so now we've signed the log and add it to our official list of finds.

Had to have another think about this one as the gps coords are a bit out but once reread info it was easy to find. TFTC

Nice historic values at this one. Descent and good hide in a spot I would have placed it myself as well. On a huge trip with Hoojar, now heading towards Buchan.

Found this one while introducing some friends to the sport of geocaching. They most impressed with the ways of hiding! Tftc
With Vaygas and the geodogs. Needs maintenance - lid is missing and logbook (small piece of paper) needs replacing
Today was the third day of our excursion out of Tasmania touring from Melbourne to Canberra and return via Gippsland. We visited a number of towns and areas today between Sale and Bairnsdale and we were lucky enough to find some caches along the way. Despite being overcast at times and some very infrequent showers, we have had an excellent day. The area around GZ was obviously rail yards in bygone days. The railway tracks have been removed but the pleasing aspect for us was to see significant parts of the infrastructure retained in situ - the signal box, gates and signals (including one set in a shopping centre carpark). The cache was a quick find. TFTC Robmc
Driving from Lakes Entrance to Morwell we enjoyed a few caches en route.
This was on our list of must do caches and we are glad we did. Pity that there is no information board.
Thanks Jacqueline and Peter #6993

Found whilst on a trip to Sale with smac24. Shops were mostly closed so not too many muggles around. Strangely enough it was in the first place we looked - we're either getting good at this or we fluked it. Probably the latter. TFTC Robmc. Took the pinky purpley linky clippy thing ( i know it has a name and just can't think of it right now!!) and left a highlighter.
My GPS had me right on a gate post and after giving the gates a thorough going over I re-read the description and saw that it was low difficulty and so tried and alternative location and had it instantly.
Thanks Robmc
Thanks Robmc
Found the cache in the most likely place even though the GPS suggested elsewhere. This quiet Wednesday evening was muggle free although I wouldn't suggest hunting during business hours.
As a boarder for two years at St. Pats College (now "Catholic Regional College") *cough* 30 plus years ago, I remember this railway well. The station was where the shopping center now stands and the rail line was a 'Y' shape. The engine would be disconnected and shunted to the other end of the carriages to continue its journey.
It wasn't the crashing and banging of the shunting operations that I remember, but the rattle and clack of the train as it made its way over the causeways and bridges on the way into town (around 10pm from Melbourne) on still, quiet evenings.

First of our POS caches, got to this one early as we thought it might get a little hard to do later in the day when the area is busier. Great to see the gates and box retained. TFTC
On the way home from our trip to Merimbula and we stopped her in sale to meet some friends. Could not resist a few cache and this was one. Great co ord's and a clear structure so we had a fast find. Funny to see a signal box out here without tracks and a station. TFTC SL
Awesome! Train spotting meets rogaining. #3 today Midnight mistletoe + cache virgin
The old Signal Box looks a bit out of place here now. Nice to see a cache on it to get a few people to stop and explore. Nice one Robmc.
100th cache!! Yay!! Found it

Well we both had 10 days out of the Institution called "Work".
We had made plans to get to Cameron Corner for the Three event,s that were put on for the October long weekend, after the three sensational events, we headed north to Innamincka for a few days R&R on Coopers Creek. We then got to thinking about doing some more caches of the Vicky Road Atlas Challenge, so on the way back home we did a few more of the series.
This was one that we managed to find on the way back home, many thanks to for the neat cache.

We had an early lunch in Sale and thought we would try for one cache here before heading back to Traralgon. This was closest and we found it at 1.37pm. Gorgeous day with a little breeze - pretty perfect for caching and sightseeing. TNLN SL This is our last day of our brief hoilday in Gippsland - back to the NE of Victoria tomorrow. Nice to find one of your caches Robmc - we will give your regards to Chewinprickles next week. TFTC
Just checked this one. Still in the original tin from last time we checked a few months ago
Had an awful lot of trouble with this one. Eventually I found the log on the ground (no container in sight). I signed and replaced the log inside the tall shrouded option.

Nice quick find....the name says it all.
And a heck of a lot easier at 10.30 at night, i must say.
Thanks Rob for the challenge

No container, only a log on the ground. Sorry, I didn't have any containers with me (not even a plastic bag). Some maintenance will definitely be required. A replacement container at least.
This is a fantastic little relic to have been kept, and so close to the CBD.
Had to do the “where do you think it would be” thing as my cords led me to the centre of two possible.
It still resulted in a quick find.
Thanks for taking me there.

Having lived here before we knew about Geocaching was nice to find this one on a quick day trip to visit old friends. TFTC
No trains! Found by geo pre-teen even after GeoDad looked in the same spot!
Thanks Robmc for the cache.

Late logging our visit...
Put a new strip of paper in cache as log was very full.
Took gemstone, left key.

#1790 The location of this one coupled with the time of day made it interesting to find the opportune time to seek this one out. We had a fair idea of where the cache might be lurking and with a break in muggle traffic and passersby we managed to locate the cache then sign in another place before returning (following more waiting.....). A top place for a cache, its great to see so much preserved history. Our thanks again to Robmc and the brothersinfluence for this placement [^]
As prior logs have indicated, log book is full & unfortunately we didn't have any with us to replace

Found @ 1300pm. Log book full & frayed needs replacing. Had to be super cautious of Muggles. TFTCSL
Found it
Quick find not so quick replace, as I was trying to find a place to SL two muggle teens showed up and made the signal box a rest spot. Went for a walk and returned in about 15mins, coast was clear and quickly replaced cache.
I remember when I worked for the Railways, Based at Traralgon, and this was the Station before they turned into a Shopping centre.
