#22922 @0915In NZ / Dunedin to attend Geo Toroa. Today was focused on the peninsula, but started with this one first. Cache easily found once at GZ, but getting there was quite a challenge after the recent rain. Well worth the effort though. TFTC.
The family decided it was time to visit Moana pools so I beelined it from the car park to the GZ - a bit messy underfoot and quite slippery with the fallen tree to get over but the cache was nicely tucked in at the base and dry - awesome. Cheers
We arrived in New Zealand. And we are sooooo happy about it. We (Team Downunder24) discovered the island by looking for some caches. We could see many nice places, landscapes, sheeps and beautiful buildings. We enjoyed our stay very much. Amazing. "Cache Mastery 402 - Navigation (Otago)" was one of the caches we could find during our bus tour from the north to the south. Thanks wallaceDuo for showing that place
Greetings from Germany/Luxembourg
The last part of the journey starts on the southern part of New Zealand ???? Our group (downunder24) visits beautiful places with the aim of collecting caches. It is very impressive. Thank you very much?? Greetings from Germany, muschel3 ??
Together with 36 other geocachers, the KiSt team undertook a very long trip to Australia ???? and New Zealand ???? for three weeks. On both the outward and return journeys, there was a stopover in Doha, the capital of Qatar ????.We experienced a great deal on this trip and gained many very different impressions of the two countries, their nature and their culture. Of course, the main focus was on visiting as many caches of as many different types as possible and also all accessible old cans. However, we also made sure to visit many special places of interest and to gain as comprehensive an impression as possible of nature and its flora and fauna. To save the logbooks, we usually signed in with our team name **Downunder24**. For "special" cans, however, we have not missed the opportunity to leave our nickname as well. This beautiful cache is now also one of our finds.Due to the large number of caches visited, it is unfortunately not possible for us to write an individual log for each can, which is why we would like to apologize to the owners for this collective log.We also met other cachers at some of the events and were able to share our experiences. Many thanks to the event owners!Of course we would like to thank all the owners for showing us the great locations, the sometimes tricky puzzles, exciting multis and wherigos, as well as the interesting virtuals and earth caches - TFTC!!!---In der Besetzung KiSt unternahmen wir zusammen mit 36 weiteren Geocachern fr drei Wochen eine sehr weite Reise nach Australien ???? und Neuseeland ????.

Danke fr diesen Geocache. Danke fr die Ausarbeitung. Danke frs Zeigen.Lieber Gru aus Duisburg / DeutschlandAndyDieser Logeintrag wird mit Hilfe von Google bersetzt.__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________We set off on a long journey with 37 geocachers from Germany, Denmark, Luxembourg and Switzerland. Trouve ! / Found it ! Pas la bonne approche, pas les bonnes chaussures, pas la bonne mto (enfin c'est encore humide de hier quoi...) mais j'ai russi m'en sortir 4882me cache trouve.Merci wallaceDuo pour la cache Not the right approach, not the right shoes, not the right weather (well, it's still humid from yesterday...) but I managed to get through it 4882th cache found.Thank you wallaceDuo for the cache
The big mission of today day was to break my record of most finds in 1 day. I started in the morning from Larnach Castle, after spending the night there. Unfortunately, the weather was really bad for part of the day but I persisted nonetheless, going on a geocaching hunt through the wind and rain, on my bike! After going down Highcliff Road into the city, I spent a lot of time in the city centre, ticking off all adventure labs there. Then through the botanical gardens and onto the steepest street in the world, which I managed to ride all the way up in 3 'stints' . To finish off I grabbed some more tradies at the waterfront and just before midnight I called it a night. I'm not sure if I broke the record yet, since I'm only logging all finds at the moment .Btw, sorry to all CO's, I did not manage to actually sign all logs, since my fingers were sometimes so cold, I had no strength to open some tight containers. Rest assured, I actually found all containers and enjoyed the full day hunt a lot! Also sorry for this generic log for all caches, making it a little bit easier for myself, since I found so many. All finds were relatively easy, mostly because of the hints, thanks for that. All DNF's were either taking too much time so I had to move on, or were very probably missing. Many thanks to all CO's for placing and maintaining! FP's rewarded for the ones I especially enjoyed!
I made this harder by coming in from Queen's drive at the top of the gully. A real dump site and local houses using it for garden waste. Headed down then went looking for a bit of a rock face. Took the easy return to the back of the carpark. Thanks I think.
Cache 1560 not to sure what I was expecting from this needed DT grid filler, its not to bad to get close to gz but when your there its a bit of a scramble especially with big trees down to get to the final spot but hey a little crawling over and under never hurt no one and now there is another smiley on my board T4TC
Our team approached this cache from two angles… one easier than the other. Taking the advice that the closest access may not be the easiest, we approached from the sides. One team was 20m away when a voice called “found it”. Signed and replaced as found before exiting up the gully. Thanks wallaceDuo for giving us a bush trek in the city and another cache to add to our 4 terrain.
Second time round on this one as last time daylight was fading signed log as usual Andy waz 'ere left a wee trinket a plastic green hot wheels monster truck crush car thus combining 2 loves hot wheels and geocaching awesome cache in an almost impossible location stoked to turn the frown upside-down here
This auspicious **DT3.5/4.0** Fizzy grid filler nailed the right spot making this 10Lt cache wery attractive. Entering from Moana pool carpark, we threw the device away and went on an adventure. Once you get past the muggler trash where someone has dumped their set of radials in the gully a bit of bush bashing got you to the area where some spelunking and canyoning was involved picking our way downstream. Ok, it's getting a little deeper here, time to climb up and look up around the landing zone. Oooh that spot over there looks quite attainable. Now mountain lion mode kicked into gear as I leapt from tree to tree reaching the GZ. A wery large, white cache was peeking back at me with a thick layer of duff on top. Prying the lid off, cache was full of swag noice and dry. Added some more baubles and grabbed the goods in our notorious XL PVC bags reserved for buckets in the bush, and ammo cans. Gerald luvs them, WM_ says Hi! mate. The dry full logbook got signed, a coin popped in for the newbie to return for and sealed the goods up clicking the lid into place with a thump. We threw in a new logbook after our signatures had been defaced by a Nana. Why would they interfere with someone's signatures?? Not sportsman like at all. It doesn't get a lot of visits all the way up there. Chucking some new duff on cache to keep it from being too shiny. Dropped down to the landing and retraced our steps back to civilization after exploring the northern gully as far as it would go finding an easier route back to the carparking. So much flooding spotted exploring the most northern approach from Olveston house was not recommended unless you wanted to collect antique crockery. We grabbed some milk station bottles for fundraising at the Hospice. Thanks for keeping this cache alive wallacedun. It's got cred' yo. All those city park and grabs are making the locals lazy. *High fav! **15favs** 2nd Favorite Fan! Heart challenge **20pt 58th** Trad **920pt***. TFTC
Scrambled around trying to find the correct approach for almost an hour and a half almost broke snapped my ankle in half but hell i love this game ill be back for a second go round with this one
Found with CarribeanStorm and its_smitchell. Picked up an entire ecosystem, awesome cache
I approached this from below after sidling in from one direction. My GPSr said the cache was 20m away but I could see it clearly 4m away! TFTC
another find for the cooper clan, you have to be a mountain goat to find it
There is a great pile of stuff in the bucket. But managed to find the logbook. It is looking full but found a space.
Walked down from the park at Moana Pool today and once I neared GZ looked around for a rock face. Yah clambered up there and found the bucket. I am pleased it is safely hidden as there appears to be a fair amount of foot traffic around these parts. Assume it is the boys from above doing what boys do.
Thanks for the cache wallaceDuo needed it today to help complete a license challenge I have been working on.

Found during time I am enjoying sunny autumn day in Dunedin, coming to visit my muggle boyfriend for weekend. He is working even if today is Saturday. After technical problem with Wherigo cache Solar System (an app jammed after half of planets) I continue here to revisit Olveston Historic Dome or more precisely its beautiful garden. Finally really not too horrible - FP!
Well that was certainly an adventure, which I loved. As it turned out, it was a bit of a shortcut to get to where I was going anyway - the tricky part was sneaking through someone's back yard on the way out. Found a lot of Possum traps on the way there. I wonder if they were discarded or vandalised? What a neat spot for a cache... and my immediate thought was 'how did you find this place?'. Thanks.
Avenged a dnf. I have attempted this one before but had no luck. I also cut my hand badly there. This time however I came from the moana pool end. A reasonably steep descent down to the bottom and then a scramble along the side. From the different angle the rock ledge was quickly spotted. Found the bucket. TFTC a fun hide
finally found it after investigating every rock wall which looked vaguely 2m high — turns out i missed it while scrambling down the western side of the valley. lovely wee spot except for all of the rubbish also, don’t wear white shoes
Whew, that wasn't half as bad as anticipated.
One of the previous logs mentions that OBHS boys sneak into these bushes to secretly smoke. Judging by the amount of glassware around, they do a bit more than smoke. Ahhh, to be young again...
After the find I went the short way out, and I agree with the CO: the short way in is certainly not recommended.
Thank you for the cache, have been eyeing this one for ages.

Set out on a mission while in Dunedin to retrieve the TB in this cache... was still quite dark in the Bush but I am used to the dark Bush. Quick find and found a easier way back to car. Thanks
I'm visiting Dunedin for a week and a bit with my son. He's a swimmer and the 2019 National Division II Championships are on at Moana Pool starting on Wednesday. He is swimming in 8 events over the four days of competition and is hoping to make a few finals. We came a few days early to visit family and friends, and to have a few training swims in the pool. I'm sorry if this online entry is posted a few days late. My focus is on the swimming and I am hoping to find a few caches while I'm here... but will not be prioritising logging in to record them. Instead, my plan is to do them in batches when I have a few minutes of down time.
Actually, the paragraph above is slightly misleading because I found this one earlier today. I took the long way to get there and back. I enjoyed the walk in the bush. The water must really rush down through there at times. I'm pleased it has been dry lately.
The cache is in good condition. All nice and dry. I dropped of a TB.
Thank you

Early morning walk. Managed to find a gentle way in and able to make the find. Took the direct route back out. Definitely a fav for the adventure. Thanks for the cache.
Dropped down to the right elevation a bit before the cache. Maneuvered around on the sidehill a bit, mostly jumping from tree to tree. Found the cache easily and then couldn't resist the temptation of going right up the slope to the sidewalk. Fun find, thanks!
Went in the long way which was not difficult. Went out the short way and struggled but made it after a few slips - I recommend gripper shoes if you decide to go that way! Tftc
#6089. I had another workshop in Dunedin on Friday and decided to stay on for the night and the following morning so I could pick up more geocaches around Dunedin. I have to be back in Wellington tomorrow evening so its a shorter stay than last weekend. Picked up the rental car at the airport and stayed once more at the TOP10 campground. Plan today was to pick up a scattering of caches in the city, one challenge cache then head out to Outram to pick up the old letterbox cache.
This cache: Well this was a bit tricky. A genuine T4 cache in a city. Finding a park was the first mission. Ended up parking near the aquatic centre on a side street. Approached from above and it sure looked steep. But starting to run out of time by now so no mucking about. Ducked into the bush and down the steep slope. Found a pest management line. Followed that and then saw the bluff. Went around that and below was the nice big cache container. All dry inside. Signed the logbook and replaced as found. Getting out proved a lot tougher. So steep and my body mass means the footwear struggle to gain grip on slopes like this. Finally a good wipeout and a slide of 3m down the muddy slope. My track pants coated in mud. Must have looked a sight once I emerged from the shrubbery. All good fun and a favourite owing. Thanks for placing it here wallaceDuo.
Had a good look at this, and the contours, and digesting that along with comments in the previous logs etc we worked out a route.
Problem was, how to get a park. So we parked a wee way off and walked our way to our chosen starting spot. Have to say, think we got it pretty much spot on. I did fall right on my butt after stepping on a slippery log, but no damage done and we were soon off again. Apart from an easy stream crossing it was pretty straight forward, and a decent sized container was the reward. Nothing left or taken, all good here, TFTC wallaceDuo.
Day 4 of an 8 day road trip from our base in Blenheim.
Today is all about exploring Dunedin. With a concert on in town tonight, (which is our reason for being here), there are plenty of people around town.
So for the 4 of us, a 90 minute walk down St Clair beach first thing, and a couple of caches on the way. Then we went our separate ways with Jo and I getting a few targeted caches around Dunedin while my sister met the other sister and bro in law at the airport.
For the caches, it’s all about quality over quantity today, with stops up Baldwin St, the Centennial Memorial and the Botanic Gardens included.
All found and in great shape, thanks everyone for maintaining these great older caches (I suspect the wider caching community is keeping an eye on these), and we are really enjoying the sun in Dunners today. Bring on P!nk.

I chose this stormy day to visit some of the oldest Caches in New Zealand. At noon time I started to drive to Mount Cargill and later in the afternoon to Flagstaff Hill. After that I did some more Caches down in Dunedin. Even if the weather was not the best I enjoyed so many good Caches out in nature!
This D/T combination was still missing in my matrix so I really wanted to find it. I ignored the warning of the owner and tried it after sunset with my torch. Probably not a good idea, I slipped down twice and ended with muddy clothes. But I found the Cache!!
Thanks for hiding!

I found this cache while in Dunedin for a work conference. I knew I would not have many opportunities to go Geocaching so I wanted to make the most of any chances I had and decided to identify a few key caches rather than worry about numbers. I identified some older caches, some D/T combinations and the CANZ cache as priorities and considered anything else a bonus.
This was my first find of the trip. I headed here straight from the airport before my work companions arrived. I had researched this one a bit, checking Google Maps/ earth/ streetview etc to try and make things easier which seemed to payoff. Always fun to find a bucket in the woods. Some interesting swag in there to. I now only have two D/T combinations left to complete my grid.

I've completed several 300 and 700 level papers before but can't remember a 400 one. So very pleased to tick this one off with no problems. Found what I thought was a pretty good entry close to where I parked and that worked out perfectly because after finding the cache I took the direct route back up and wouldn't have wanted to come down there as it was very slippery. I must check out the other caches in this series for next time I'm down. As usual it always astounds me how people can dump rubbish in a place like this. TFTC # 11,895
We were in the port of Port Chalmers in New Zealand for the day. We decided to take the Shuttle bus into Dunedin and geocache there for most of the day. We then came back to the port and did a few caches there.
We wound up with 13 Finds for the day, with 1 DNF. (We really think it is gone, but we will check with the CO and also put it on our Watch List.)
Thank you to each of the COs for their efforts and for their caches.
Great day!!!

This cache: WOW!!!!! What a hike to get to GZ; however, we found the cache right away. BIG FAV awarded here!!!

Sent the boys down for this one and took them a bit of sliding!! spectacular rock face! TFTC
One of the things I love about geocaching is being promoted to take the path least travelled. This fits the bill!! Thanks
After receiving some advice from a fellow cacher headed into the bush. After a bit of a scramble and an uphill climb had the cache signed. A another lovely spot in the bush. Thanks for bringing me here. Tftc
Thought this one might be too hard so we went to try to scope it out first. After a bit of a look we found a suitable entry point and decided to go for it. Was a bit of a hike and slow going and we were happy to find it. Felt like we had really worked for this smiley! TFTC!
This is my weekend trip to South Island. Well, it's really like a one day excursion. Arriving in Dunedin on Sunday morning, I have 30 hours before having to leave again from Christchurch. My routing is following the geocaches that I have chosen for this tour. After landing in Dunedin, my first stop is Blackhead for its magnificent Earthcache [GC39JRR](https://coord.info/GC39JRR). I love a good lesson in geology and this one here comes with a fine listing at a superb location. Weather and tidal conditions are not optimal at the time of my visit, but I still saw and learned a lot.
In Dunedin I am taking a different kind of lesson, namely "Navigation under bush cover" and "Identifying approach points to a cache". Cachemastery 402 [GC152NM](https://coord.info/GC152NM). is teaching me both along a very nice "urban bush-whack".
In contrast to scrawling under thick foliage and the canopy of Roberts Park the Centennial Memorial [GCB6C](https://coord.info/GCB6C) is standing high erect above all and offering stunning views over city and shoreline. A beautiful place to visit, thank you for showing.
Leaving Duneding I turn northwest towards another fine virtual cache, Goldfield (Otago) [GCDDAB](https://coord.info/GCDDAB). It is a magnificent trip up there offering splendid views over Bendigo and the valley of the Indis river. Besides, is a fun drive on unpaved roads with cattle gates and fording through smaller rivers.
I spend the night at the shores of lake Hawea in a place with more beautiful vistas. A decent steak and a glass of local wine conclude the day. The next morning I get up with dawn. To my surprise there is ice on my cars windshield. But then, it's a fine morning with clear skies and crisp air. My first cache attempt is failure though. I can not find "Kia Ora Sticky" [GC7BE8B](https://coord.info/GC7BE8B), where I had hoped for an FTF. Maybe I just got a wrong idea of what "tuft" could mean. Slightly embarrassed for being unable to find a 200ml container I leave the place which was still worth the trip for the morning atmosphere and outlook over lake Wanaka.
The highlight of todays journey, though, is Danseys Pass, offering a real delight [GC8F12](https://coord.info/GC8F12) in motorized travel. After taking a coffee at Danseys pass hotel I continue towards the pass itself. With fine skies and some patches of morning fog it’s a most pleasant experience – and not remotely as though as the listing is let you expect. But then, there is no traffic and maybe the roads have improved ever since the cache was first published.
Oward to Christchurch it's a bit of stretchy passage until I reach my next destination at Mt. Peel. The Church of the Holy Innocents [GCA4E0](https://coord.info/GCA4E0) is another fine virtual and a jewel of place. A beautiful small church with a very interesting grave yard. A most enjoyable detour from the direct way to my last cache of the day.
Quite in the middle of Christchurch is a small an tranquill park [GCA094](https://coord.info/GCA094) dedicated to those who fell trying to safe or rescue the live of others. A place worth visiting to round up this gread day. 18:00 is my flight to Sydney and I leave NZ with fond memories and pictures. Thanks to all cache owners for showing me these terrific locations.

Spent a little while near moana pool contemplating if I should attempt it or not, I decided that I should at least try. So I plunged myself down the easiest slope I could find, went in the general direction of the cache and though the cords were about of I found it almost immediately. It's a good feeling when u find a cache like this cause u really have to work to get to it, TFTC
Yesh! Mastery!
The signal is a bit off, leading me straight past it, but when I read the description again and looked a little bit upstream, I eventually found it. It can be seen from a trap.

Day # 1 in New Zealand on a geocaching holiday-trip with visits in Thailand, Australia and finally NZ .
I had so much looked forward to return to this beautiful country, and now I'm here again - awesome!
Spent the day caching around in Dunedin, trying to concentrate on the "old & the famous" and to cover all available cache-types in the region .
Mission accomplished!
At the end of the busy day I was happy to count 22 finds of 7 different cache-types (including my own event in the evening [^].
This one had challenging ratings and therefore was worth a try...
I was lucky to find a fairly easy access to the cache area.
Still I felt a little shivery and smelled some adventure in the air [^].
Was more than excited to have savely arrived at GZ an to sign the log. [^]
Hey - Dunedin, you have awesome caches [^] [:X]! Almost all in great shape, especially the old ones. [^]
So thanks to all Dunedin Owners involved [:X] [:X] - two of you I was happy to meet in person at the event .
Cheers from Germany Sure i'll be back some day !

#8527, 18:28,
During our holidays in Newzealand we searched some Caches.
The navigation was less difficult than expected.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this box
arbor95
Together with arbor95 I am on a holiday tour in New Zealand.
We are two Germans, old friends since a long time. Together we visited a lot of other countries in the past, even before we started geocaching. [^]
For our trip we usually looking for some extraordinary caches.
Therefore we had mostly a lot of fun.
We find a good path to get to the geocache.
Thank You very much for this geocache, for the challenge and for the maintaining.
Greetings from tripleclaus to wallaceDuo.

Well another quick fire visit to Dunedin for work and manging to squeeze in a few caches along the way. While they had been expecting rain it was actually rather mild and pleasent out caching.
The objective for this trip was to collct as many caches as I could working towards that infurnel DGSc Challenge that seems to be taking forever to complete, but then saying that I only require a further 70 caches to meet the requirements (and needless to say I have to travel further and further from home to acheive them.
Somehow, don't ask me how, but I managed to find a largely direct route to this cache, that was both clear of trees (apart from rubbish, but not too much) and gave a straight line to the cache. Even amanged to spot the cache from a distnace of about 6 meters which is what I will call a bonus.
Thanks for the cache, Thanks for the placement

Yay. Have been looking for some more bucket caches to complete another challenge. Thanks!
Puff puff man I am unfit. was a quick trip to this cache but not so much coming back out. Was an easy one and GPS worked well with fewer leave on the trees.
Went on a big adventure with Wafflekitties and geo pups, had a blast thanks for the memories! TFTC.
Found while on a winter holiday with LCBuilder and our two geodogs. We spent 3 weeks travelling down the east coast and then up the west coast, setting our tent up at a different campsite each night. We didn't have any real plan, just went where the caches took us we saw a lot of awesome sights and will definitely have to come back one day as 3 weeks isn't really that long! TFTC!
I admit I expected this to be incredibly difficult so I put it off for a long time! I don't know whether I was just lucky or entered at the right spot, but armed with the hint I sussed out the location before I really needed to use my GPS! The issue was, I seemed to have dropped my keys when signing the log sheet - so I had to make a second trip...hoping like mad I'd not dropped them on the way!
Anyhow, pleased to tick this off the list, neat spot - I would have loved that as a child!

catching up with K.J.R for the weekend and before the girls had a birthday party at the pool , junior K.J.R and I headed down the bank with a few slips and slides and giggles we made it to the bottom and commenced our search, coverage wasn't the best but it didn't take to long before we had the cache found and another of my D/T filled in tftc
On our way to the pool for J birthday party so BCD and R did a wee detour and found the bucket. TFTC
While my son was at music I had about 40 minutes to find this. A side down the bank holding onto trees and roots had to try it a couple of times then along to the cache. nearly run out of time. Pleased to find another bucket. Then a climb back up, got the heart rate up as I don't like heights. Very relieved to get out of there. I'm sure there must be an easier way. Thanks.
On holiday for sisters wedding, thought we'd have a crack at a more difficult cache. Took a fair bit of scrambling and tree swinging, but found it in the end.
Logbook was full and needs replacing

Holidays in New Zealand! We have been looking forward to them for years. We had lots of time to prepare ourselves for a great trip. As geocachers, we also picked out a number of great caches. Armed with a "to-do list" and accidental encounters we were lucky to log many caches. Thank you for placing them and keeping the game go on!
Day 25/28: Invercargill - Dunedin - Twizel
Around Dunedin there are some oldies we wanted to visit. Furtheron, there were too much caches to stop for. The ones we encountered were signed, many thanks for placing them. We had great fun.
Good cache for our grid, TFTC

having walked along Queens' Drive several times in the last few months I had a pretty good idea of where to enter the bush. Nevertheless I still found myself going from tree to tree to get down the slope. Once down I had a much better idea of the lay of the land and getting out was a relatively quick walk in the park. Bag holding the log book has a hole in the bottom so I shoved it into the plastic bag holding the CD. Logbook just has the normal slightly damp feeling that most logbooks seem to get after been out for a few years. LFTC
I'm getting too old for this!
I probably took the medium option for getting to this one, but I didn't see an easier way coming back out. Definitely a muggle free zone, and if they want to follow then good luck to them. Thanks.

Some serious scrambling and bush bashing to get to this one, a couple of knocks and grazes for my trouble, thanks..!!
Wow! lots of scrabbling about involved, glad I had company. It was lovely to get 'in' to the town belt rather than just drive through it, as I do daily.
