"Safe Water"archived due to fire damage.

09-Mar-10
Visited "SAFE WATER" and found area to be destroyed by fire, including geocache box.
Will replace geocache when the the vegetation has regenerated. This is an interesting area with great views.
I have nothing but contempt for the "Low Life" that deliberately set fire to the park.
Hopefully it will regenerated into an area that we can be proud of.

Sad to see this location now ravished by fire. Fortunately cache and contents only melted on the outside.
Visited with taiko33.
Retrieved the unharmed TB from this now blackened location and will look for somewhere green.

Sorry to say this cache is badly munted by fire. The log book was intact though. We wrapped the box in 2 dog poo bags to protect it from the weather temporarily. Needless to say, desperately in need of maintenance. We (dogs especially) enjoyed the walk but were very sad to see the widespread fire damage in the area.

27-Feb-10
Does anyone know if the cache survived the blaze? Been meaning to visit this one - the ridges took the hardest hit in this area.

21-Feb-10
the whole surrounding area is currently ablaze - can see the flames and hear the helicopters across the harbour - am fearful for the cache, although obviously there are far greater things at stake right now - this is terrible and sad Sad

24-Oct-09
Brilliant weather which made for a nice walk. Bit of a walk - wasn't expecting it to be up the hill and so hadn't worn the correct footwear. TFTC.

29-Aug-09
A quick find on an early evening walk. Biggest problem was finding the best access route as I had parked at the end of Onepoto Rd and I ended up taking the long way round. However, it was good exercise and pleasant walking. Left Civil War Geocoin, cache was in good condition after not having been found for several months Signed log, TFTC

#445. Windy, cloudy and hot. Clockwise from the northern car park. We were looking for the fenceline track, but found the gorse there was worse. Went up from the south in the end. Nice view.

Nice walk up to GZ. After deciding which way to approach. Didn't stay long as the wind made it pretty unpleasant, not cold though. TNLN SL TFTC

Great location, fantastic weather. 2nd find of the day going clockwise around the peninsula (i.e. the long way). Took Pig Race Coin, may it win the race!

Walked almost completely around it before we found a way up... Great day with wonderful weather and strawberries & ice cream afterwards! TFTC!

Second find for the day - decided that since I was in the area i had better do this one as well. despite the weather looking temperamental it held off and we got a great view of the area at the GZ. Took camera so got some great photos. Bit off a slog but well worth it in the end. A lot of protection in the area had to watch where we were walking. Views of Kaikoura's looked great. Rain clouds were beckoning so decided we better head off. Dropped of Pig Race GC. TFTC TNSL

13:32 Hard slog up here but rewarded with some great views.

Tried to head down hill to hook with the track in the valley, but wearing shorts and gorse is never a great idea. So I was forced to retrace my steps back to the coast.

Thanks for cache it was challenge.

Used to run these hills as an orienteer -there was a clear route up the southern spur, and lots of other ways up and down. Now it's all gorse...

Walked from the south and up the east fenceline. Easy find, TNLNSL.

This was our second find of the day,Morris decided to take the lead on this one and managed to find the worst trail possable to get to the wrong coordinates (morris had the cords in the GPS wrong)which put us on a cliff of gorse, once we figured out there was something wrong it only took us a few minutes to find the cache at the proper coords ,
So a bit scratched up after this one (morriss fault )but happy to have this crossed off the list,

I know why the cache was out in the open when Moneydork found it...the bloody thing got blown there!

It sure was hard standing up at the top of this hill, but the climb was well worth it for the views. A great walk up from the car park and a nice easy find, followed by a trip down the ridge to "Life's a Beach".

Wonderful spring day!
Had to get up early from Karori for this one!
Still windy and had the comfort of knowing cache would be in the last place I looked *giggles*

I went up via the access waypoint noted - however I did not think my wee car would like the final approach so walked to it and as I suspected the final approach was covering with water upon my return!
Forgot to mention in the log that I took the geocoin... was tempted by the cards as I am a collector but I only admired (along with the Larsons!).

Up early for the FTF, (I had a sneaky feeling that the pack was not far behind). I was supposed to be "working @ home" but concentration was going to be too hard - I could see that trig through my lounge window. I decided the only way to cope was to do the cahe first and work later. Perferct morning up there, very still and surprisingly warm. If you line up the trig pole and the shortest of the 3 masts, my home is just to the left of that line, about 1 km away. Never been up there, glad I went. +_0

Fairly handy cache so popped up after work to drop off Kiwi Volunteer Geocoin. A very familiar place, funnily enough I trekked up here a number of times last summer.

Still had some old co-ords loaded on my GPSr and was quite taken aback to find there is a spot very close to this cache that is the exact circumcentre of three nearby caches, Nest, Surf's Up, and Rusty Wreck Beach. If I'd known that earlier I would of devised a cunning puzzle cache up here myself Twisted (Hi OB)
