#14189; Day fourteen of the Townsville Mega adventure with Sol de lune. Today we set off on our homeward journey. After packing up the geomobile, we collected a few more caches in and around Townsville with fitzy_65 and minniek, before hitting the road, final destination Mackay. Collected a few more caches along the way, including more in the "Armed Services" series south of Mackay before pulling up stumps in Koumala for the night. All caches were found in good order and signed LL, Sdl, f65 and mk or similar. Apologies for the largely generic logs. TFTC HDSpringer Smile

27,838. Found with minniek during our Grand Townsville Trek up to CacheQLD's Townsville Mega Event over Easter.

Day 12 of our Townsville Trek, and we packed up from the Hotel then we managed a few caches around Townsville today before starting the long haul south to home. Met up with Sol de Lune and LuckyL10n again and cached together for the day. This was an Multi to solve. Quick find at GZ - the container still safely in place and able to be found. Signed the log, replaced the cache as found, then continued along to the next cache on our list.

Thanks HDSpringer !!

Day 11 of our trek to the Townsville Mega and back with fitzy_1965 and two of my geo-kids Death_killer & my_name_jeff_1.

Today we started the long-haul home. We picked up a few last caches in Townsville on the way out then cached our way South to the Mackay area with Sol de lune and LuckyL10n. It was another long but productive day which included picking up several counties, lots of letterboxes and others in between the intermittent rain. We parted ways with SDL & LL and managed to find a great Caravan Park in Sarina and set up our tents for the last time. We played darts and Trivial Pursuit into the night.

All caches were found quickly and easily unless otherwise mentioned. Thanks to all the CO’s.

whilst we knew this cache has been archived, we were pretty sure it was still in place so stopped for a look on our way south to Mackay. Sure enough it was!
Thanks HDSpringer.

A ten day mega trip was arranged with Stainless steel rat and Budgietas. We flew into Cairns and out of Mackay, with the majority of the time in and around Townsville. We found a huge variety of caches and although our find count was a little lower than we would have liked, some of the high D/T caches more than made up for that. I really appreciate the effort of the local COs and all the people involved in hosting the mega and associated activities. I enjoyed catching up with many of our caching buddies, and make some new ones too!
Thanks for a great mega trip!

The last full day of caching for us today as we collect some last caches in Townsville and then head South to Mackay for our flight home to Tassie in the early morning. we grabbed what we could but there is never enough time.

This was my first Mega trip in a while now, I had planned to go to the last one in Wangaratta but concerns about COVID made me pull out at the last minute. For this one it was a trip with BudgieTas and GooseandEgg landing in Cairns on the Sunday where we collected a few caches in the dark before driving down to Townsville on the Monday collecting a select few caches along our very indirect route.
While in the Townsville we made the best of our time collecting a few series of caches and searching for some of the older caches on offer, some with lots of favourite points or something we thought maybe a bit different, along with all that we got to go to all the Mega events and meet up with cachers old and new, spending Thursday with Greg going round Magnetic Island and a bit of time with the Davinells who went out of their way to welcome the Tasmanians to Queensland.
All to soon it came to an end and we drove down to Mackay on the Monday again collecting caches along the way before flying home on the Tuesday Morning.
Thanks for the warm (sometimes too hot) welcome Queensland until next time!

Thanks for the cache.

This cache was found today and brings our overall cache find tally to 11123.

This was a cool multi and I liked the concept. At GZ I nearly put my hand on a frog but I eventually found the container and signed away!

Thanks HDSpringer for the cache.

Nyssaflutterby and I stopped here on our way to Townsville for the Mega.
We worked together to solve the puzzle and locate the cache.
We wondered how many outdoor chapels there might be around Australia, we think this is the 3rd one we have visited now.

This was the last leg of our trip to Townsville Mega. I was in need of a find in this LGA, what better than an archived multi to tick the box.

Arriving at the posted coords wombles and myself worked as a team to decipher the finals. It didn’t take long and we were soon on our way to GZ. Wombles made quick work of locating the container. We left our marks and replaced the beasty as found.

Thanks for the cache HDSpringer Big Grin

This is day three of the drive from Brisbane to Townsville and today Fangsoki, Crew 153 and 1MinnieMoo and I are doing the Mackay to Townsville leg. Given I've never driven this far north, everything is new and exciting, even from the backseat where I spend the majority of the time. After our night in Mackay, and a reasonably early start, we're on the road and heading north. By Bowen, the weather had cleared from intermittent showers and was now being very 'North Queensland' - hot and humid.

Ah, the famous town of Ayr! Not only is it good to visit, but good that we're ahead of schedule and take the time to pause in this town - namely for this old geocache. Fang and Minnie had found it previously and we weren't fully sure why it got archived. I wasn't even sure how it ended up on our list, but someone felt it would still be there. And I won't complain, I like finding an archived geocache.

In the park, the open-air cathedral provided what we needed, though the previous finders in the car remembered where we needed to go. We weren't guaranteed a find of course, but with a quick examination of the likely area, a geocache was found. And a geocache in better condition than average, I'd say! We were surprised to see another group had already found it today! Seems we're not the only folks who took a chance on this still being here. The logbook was signed and replaced as found.

While we were here, we hung around in the park a bit - I was keen to see the giant snake so we did. Perhaps a shame this was archived so abruptly, but it's certainly still there to be found. Thanks for this geocache and extra smiley, HDSpringer Smile

Day 3 saw us traveling through Ayr and this archived cache was on our list.

27/10/21 Find #5154
Fangsoki and I said farewell to Magnetic Island this morning around dawn, and began our slightly detoured version of making our way to Ayr for the night. We had finally made it into Ayr, and this was the first cache on the list here for me - one that Fangsoki had done years beforehand.
Well this is an unusual spot. I made my way over to the pulpit to begin working out my answers, trying to use whatever shade I could find to work out the finals once I had the required numbers.
Ahhh that puts me over at “X” location. A quick snap or two of the current spot and it was time to make my way to GZ.
Now since being in Far North Queensland, I have picked a number of fights with Green Tree Ants. And so it was that I was doing my absolute best to not have another fight with them while searching for this cache. I found a handy stick - ant-free - and began poking and prodding. Eventually I made my find, and a brave grab and dash back away from ant zone to do the signing honours. Then another quick dash and replace safely.
Thanks for the cache HDSpringer.

08-Aug-21
A nice walk across the gardens to this lovely outside chapel. It took us a few minutes to locate the plaque, got the numbers and then another short walk to GZ. A simple, straight forward find.

Once more we are on the road today continuing our journey north. Today we are leaving Bowen and making our way towards Townsville, stopping as we are able to grab any accessible caches that pop up on our way.
Thanks go to all the local, and the few not so local, CO’S for placing the caches for us to find. Without you we would have no pursuit to take part in. We appreciate your efforts, and thank you for your time.

Found as I meander my way from Adelaide to Cairns.

With no real travel plan and three weeks to get there before I meet up with friends, there has been plenty of opportunity for sightseeing and finding a few selected caches along the way.

I stopped in at the park here to make some lunch. Its a very popular spot! Then it was over to ‘God’s Cathedral’ to gather the required information before finding the cache. What an interesting place!

Thanks HDSpringer for the cache.

18-Jul-21
After some DNFs in town earlier we stopped here for our dinner. Not of course before having a walk through the park and solving the multi. We were amazed how great the nearby playground is for such a tiny town and also the multi locations were nice. On the way to GZ we found a spooky looking half burned stuffed animal followed by the cache. Thanks a lot

02-Jul-21
After staying in Charters Towers for a few days it was time to head off and thanks to the rain last night an easterly direction was chosen. I headed into town and stopped to grab the information needed and then headed to GZ. I had to walk around a couple of times before I finally found the cache and the ants found me!

Once the log was signed all was returned as found.

I took along some trackables for a visit.

What a beautiful, peaceful spot at the given coordinates. Congratulations to those with the idea and those who brought it to fruition.
I had most of the coordinates for GZ by power of deduction but needed to confirm one and find one number. Thanks for bringing me to this glorious spot. Take an FP for the location. An easy find and sign. Thank goodness I had forgotten about the green ants and there weren't many around today.

With overseas travel currently out of the question and state border closures still a lurking as possibilities, my family and some close friends decided that travelling from Brisbane to North Queensland was our best option for a Christmas/New Year escape.

After a few nights each in Clifton Beach and Port Douglas we were now on the southwards run towards home.

With some pre-trip research I had managed to come up with a solution for GZ and today the park provided an opportune place for a pit stop. While the others attended to their ablutions I hurried off to GZ to locate the cache. Avoiding the green ants I was able to recover the cache and sign my name in the logbook. TFTC

Day 21 and the start of our return road trip home from Townsville to the Gold Coast with hatzofff, grannysmith1947 and RoddyC.

I love a quick and easy multi in between all the traditional caches and this was a nice one. Cache needs a little TLC because there is a small hole in it and over time will fill with water and insects, namely green and black biting ants.

On our way to Bowen from Townsville for the night, we stopped at this park to reminisce of our past travels and give VilleJnr a chance to stretch her legs. After figuring out the coordinates (and VilleJnr was the star of the moment having had her weetbix this morning), she led us straight to the GZ and it was MrVille who who found the cache. Log book signed, nothing taken and nothing left, cache in good dry condition however it was noted that there was a hole in the corner of the cache. TFTC. We are staying at the Burdekin Cane Farm for a few days before heading to Townsville. A quick drive into town this morning for gas and some bread. While we were here we may as well attempt a cache or two. We struck out at the Snake but this puzzle was quickly solved and the cache quickly located. A great little area for contemplation. I am in Australia for 2 weeks, starting with the Mega-event in Alexandra, Victoria.

After an AMAZING 3-day liveaboard-divetrip in The Great Barrier Reef, my plan is to drive from Cairns to Brisbane. I found a car online that needs to be relocated, so I have a free car for 6 days, that's perfect for geocaching

I spent most of the day diving at the Yongala shipwreck, which was absolutely fantastic!! In the afternoon I drove from Alva beach to Airlie Beach, with a stop in Bowen. I actually liked Bowen better than Airlie Beach, if I had known, I would have spent the night there instead. Bowen was not as touristy and crowded as Airlie, and it really had some beautiful beaches. I wish I had more time, but the car needed to be returned in Brisbane on time.

About this cache:
I'm always looking at multis when I travel, I n't have many of them. This one looked like an easy one, so I decided to stop here. It was easy to find the coordinates, and it was easy to find the cache. Thanks for a great multi. Greetings from Norway

Cleaning up a couple of more caches before leaving town, particularly multi's as they are with more tokens in the Geocaching Pirate hunt this week we then headed towards Ayr caching our way along.

We came to this quite nice area and found what we needed and then started doing the substitutions, once this was done we headed off towards gz and noticed a car parked very close by, fortunately they were just finishing packing up their picnic so we went for a bit of a wander until they moved on and were very happy when Diane had the cache in hand in the second place she looked and the log book now contains our name.

Thanks HD Springer for bringing us to this greta well used area and for hte cache.
