19. november 2024 10.03# 4933Wauw - What a view Definitely worth a favoriteAnother Oldie logged - thank you for keeping this one activeFirst time in New Zealand and obviously we should try to find some cachesFound with our youngest daughter - 'gida' Geogreetings from Denmarkviridis / Peter & Charlotte TFTC
Today we have a few very special caches on the agenda. Some with lots of favorite points that made us curious and two "old caches" were successfully conquered. We also visited traditional caches, lab caches and a multi cache. A break on the beach, where we watched the fisherman on the pier and the children, rounded off a great day. With the Cache was everything fine and we give an Favoritenpoint. Many thanks and greetings from the Moorhelmi
CaptainVimes and I have crossed the ditch to attend the Geo Toroa mega in Dunedin and tour around the South Island for two weeks.Wow! This is the trig of them all! Amazing views! Thanks Rincewind3 and happy caching
Crew 153 and I were grabbing a few old caches. This was on our target list. I didn't have this one yet.We parked up at where was suggested and made our way up the hill. A council ute came down the hill as we walked on up. Old Mate gave us a wave. We tried to look for the second gate mentioned - but ended up just going straight to GZ. I soon found the prize safe and sound. We signed the log and took some snaps of the excellent view.An easy favourite point for the nice walk and view. TFTC Mat, Stephanie, Mike, Rachael, Lexie and Rincewind3 for taking care of it
Fangsoki and I parked at the suggested parking spot and took the hike up the road to the tower. The cache was in the first place we looked. The views were definitely worth the walk and a fav point.TFTCMat,Stephanie,Mike,Rachael,Lexie adopted Rincewind
The drive up was abandoned half way as I did not trust the pathetic wee automatic rental car. Walked the rest of the way and lost half my hair to the bay winds!!! Amazing 360 views! Quick find for the cache too so happy days.!another fave point as this is bloody awesome
15 favourite points? For that view up at the trig point???? Thats just rude. Have one, from a cacher from Townsville Queensland
A quick find of a new(ish) cache. Found easily, but we were only the 3rd name in the new logbook. Nearly missed the hide for the fence. #41 TftC
#4,045: Nick of a Smiley!I came to this one on an unseasonably warm winter's day with two muggle friends. But, I was able to get "shockington" hooked on caching with this one! A muggle no more. Now he is doomed to walk the earth forever in the pointless search for Sistema containers in the woods...Nice to find this oldie but goodie!SL/TFTC!!
Ewe more like ew! Thankfully not too close to the sheep. Log is almost full so left a little notebook and some swag
My first find and it got me hooked! (I wrote in the log book as ben_exotic, but it appears the name was taken when I created an account later)... boo.
This one, and the trig station, provided a nice goal to the afternoon's walk. Couldn't spot it at first and wondered if I'd have to venture past the dead sheep, which is now mostly past the messy stage of decomposition mostly at least. Happily I spotted the right spot before I had to widen the search that far. Nice to get these oldies - shame this one has only a micro logbook, the old big logbooks are my favorite.
I'm in Christchurch for a few days for work so of course I have to get some geocaching in. I came down a day early so I could get a rental car for the day to target some specific caches in the surrounding area.Managed to drive all the way up thanks to being upgraded to a mini SUV from the Corolla. Grabbed the trackable. All good here and TFTC.Find #6430 at 25 February 2024 5:42 pm
Fantastic views here, although quite windy. A quick find after a bit of an uphill walk. Tftc
I am up here attending event and decided I had to get this cache, I mean find and log this cache. What amazing views can be seen. I have taken quite a few photos of them and am enjoying just taking in what I can see. Favourite given.
Thanks for the heads-up regarding the dead sheep team. Here's hoping the farmer removes it soon - I certainly have no intention of dealing with it! ??
As we arrived at the trig, a few cachers were already there and someone had retrieved the cache, like many we signed the logbook, once everyone was done, Mr9 went to look at the hide and see the dead sheep that was close by. Both logbook and container were in good condition. thanks for placing and maintaining this.
on a short walk to the summit found. But at the moment it's not a nice place because near the cache there lies a dead sheep.TFTC
Very bitter wind today but we were on top of the world and wind is to be expected... found in perfect condition with ZEALOG
Another set of brilliant views over Lyttleton and Christchurch. Wind is very cold but worth the effort. Tftc

Unser erster Cache in Neuseeland! Tolle Aussicht und die Wanderung dorthin ist nicht allzu schwierig. TFTC!
Zusammen mit meiner Tochter auf kleinem Roadtrip gut gefunden. Tolle Aussicht!!! Danke für den Erhalt dieses Dinos. Herzliche Grüße vom Rumtreiber aus Braunschweig, Deutschland.
I went for a walk with one of Trefolia Argentea, aiming for a loop up the hill and around by the WW2 gun emplacements. We were up among low-hanging clouds for most of the walk, and the trail was muddy from recent rain, but at least along the ridge it was easy!
Nick's Nautical Nest: Found this on my own (TA had it from a previous walk). It was exactly where it was supposed to be, and none too hard. TFTC!

It was such a nice walk to find this cache. . This was previously a dnf. Even though Lyttletonwitch found it a while ago she had a feeling about a certain rock. I have now turned this frown upside down
A weekend away in Chch to pick up one last PW and then puzzles, challenges and oldies. This was a destination cache today so up into the hills I winded. Parked at the first gate and enjoyed the walk from there. No view for me today all mist. Quiet up here - nautical nest for sure! Cache duly found without to many hazards - up here alone. Thanks for the great cache and another oldie in a month I don't have.
Greetings from QLD, Australia! When we first decided to go to New Zealand, my first thing to do was to check if there were any old caches around, particularly ones that filled our Jasmer grid. This one was added to the list as we are spending a few days in Christchurch.
After riding the gondola, there was a consideration to walk the tracks to this cache but we decided we wouldn’t have enough time and drove around to a closer spot.
It was an enjoyable walk up, meeting the locals along the way. We admired the awesome views from the trig point then set off to GZ. JDavs spotted the hide from above and directed me to it. Winner winner! Very happy to grab this oldie, an awesome spot for it. Tftc

Wow! What an amazing view.
Partner brought us up here today. He knew about this place. I admit at the first gate I was dubious but so glad we went.
Found, signed, returned. TB still in container - we did not take it. Thanks for placing.

Down from Northland for a one week trip to Christchurch to pick up some solved puzzles, challenges, unusual cache types, Jasmer grid fillers, as well as a few others in passing.
Heading up Mt Pleasant today for this Jasmer grid filler. Parked at the first gate and then walked on up in the quite brisk wind that seemed to be much stronger once I got to the top. Took a little bit of searching until the GPS settled and then the cache was soon located, log signed and replaced safe and secure as found. Dropped off a TB as well. Thx for keeping this oldie going. TFTC

Found on a caching walk around Mt Pleasant. We had a little search as the coordinates were a little off. At GZ our GPSr said the cache was 5m south on the wrong side of the fence. But the cache is on the correct side... All in excellent condition. This is now the 4th oldest cache we have found. TFTC!
Quality time with my son. We walked up from Lyttelton and headed this area we haven't visited before. What a great view from up here. All good at the cache. Thanks for keeping this oldie alive.
Day 3 of my 2020 NZE (New Zealand Experience).
This is when it starts to get serious. I picked up my campervan this morning and by midday I was out on the road to start 2 weeks of touring around the South Island.
During my time here I am aiming to find as many of the TMGT caches as I can (preferably all 41) and also as many Virtuals, Earthcaches and Letterbox Hybrids as possible, plus any Trads or others that will fill a hole in my D/T grid, my Jasmer grid, or else the last 3 remaining Hidden Dates on that grid.
I wanted to find this particular cache to fill a hole in my Jasmer grid. Canterbury had turned on the weather for me so it was a gloriously sunny day as I parked up near GZ. There wasn't another soul around as I walked to where my GPS was taking me. When I read the Hint I thought "uh-oh" - under rock? Really??? But the co-ords are accurate enough to make it a quick find after all.
No issues with any aspect of this cache, so the log was swiftly signed and everything replaced exactly as found, and having taken a few photos I was back on my way again.
Thanks for placing this cache.

Visiting Christchurch to see the grown up kids who are on Uni holidays. Was pleasantly surprised to find out there are several geocaches from 2001/2002/2003 close to the city. Keen to fill in as many of my Jasmer gaps as possible. This one involved a 2 hour hike from Lyttelton. Pretty steep in part and half way up we got into cloud cover. Fortunately the tract was well marked and easy to follow on our GPS. Got to GZ and read the hint which didn’t narrow down the options. Fortunately the GPS was spot on and soon the log was signed. Hope this lasts another 19 years! Thanks
#275,beautiful day on Port Hills and snow covered mountains around.quick found.TFTC

Found on a windy cloudy day! What a cool spot, thanks for hiding, sorry no pen this time.
The road up to GZ from the gate was a challenge for any street vehicle as parts of it were rough and in need of maintenance. With the strong NE wind up here it should be called Mt Unpleasant. A nice out of the way cache hide. Tftc
Maintenance done by another cacher. Enabling the listing, but I'll get up to check it soon.
Luckily, I read the logs and realized, that this one is still available. Quickly found GZ and saw the new, dry replacement logbook. Thanks for the fun up here.
Out getting a few new years caches. This was on my Canterbury must do list for this trip. Nice easy find, not the best views today though. Brought a new bagged log and pill bottle to keep it dry. Took TB. Thanks for maintaining Rincewind

the Logbook is very, very wet.
Meanwhile this is my third geocaching-trip to Middle-Earth . And I love it! [:X]
Unfortunately, this great vacation is now coming to an end and Christchurch is the last visiting stop for this time .
Sadly today (day #29) with again splendid, sunny weather was the last day for treasure-hunting on this trip .
I dedicated it to visit a couple of ‘OLDIES’ [^] in the south and east of the city .
A good decision, that was rewarded with awesome views and quite some adventures in the countryside - E.G street closures .
Above that, some pre-solved mysteries, a cool challenge, the webcam and the virtual cache at CHR-airport were on the list [^]...
Happy to visit the selected jewels - just like this one on he hill :
A 'dinosaur-box' in excellent condition [^] at an absolutely awesome place with a scenic view!
Thanks to the owner [:X] for placing and longterm-maintaining this cool cache and best regards from Germany!
P.S.: I’ll be back for the next kiwi-adventure!

I decided to break away from making grabs on solved puzzles this afternoon, and change tactics and head for caches that would help towards my Jasmer grid.
All fine here, awesome views. Working in the radio industry, I was familiar with the site name, however had never been here before. Nice to tick that off, and grab a cache towards my grid as well
TFTC Rincewind3, the cache was found in good order Signed, sealed and returned to GZ. 10 find(s) of 11 today, making this find #1925

Today is day 2 of our trip through New Zealand. We woke up just north of Lyttleton where we made a mourning walk to Nick's Nautical Nest. We needed this once for our Jasmer and were glad to find it after a couple of minutes. On our way to Araroa we picked up some other older caches as well: Canada Connection, Quail View en Pony Point. After we visited the lovely city of Araroa I went up to the cache at Flea Bay to pick the last one of today. Thanks to all owners for these cache.
We were in Christchurch to help one of my sisters celebrate a special birthday. We managed to slip away to find a few caches.
Today, we had two caches that we really wanted to find to help fill our month placed grid. This was the second of those two. As we made our way towards the cache we did not have time to stop and find all of the caches we passed. We decided to find these two old caches and if we had any time left we would stop for others on the way back.
We parked up and headed to GZ. Absolutely stunning views from around here.
The cache was in a place that I had past and over a couple of times before GK had a better look. It is pretty special to find such an old cache. After finding the cache we stayed for a while just to take in the sights.
Thank you for placing and of course thank you for the smilie

We drove as close as possible and then I set off up the hill fast. It was a bit rugged given my lack of fitness right now but I enjoyed being at the top and took a few shots, including one at the survey marker.
The cache was elusive until I turned around and retraced my path! Great to sign up on a cache so old and fill another Jasmer square. TFTC where all is fine.

Whew! As with some others, I literally walked over and around it several times before making the find!! Took a TB, dropped a TB . Tftc
Found on a great walk with Flowerydaze to the top of Mt Pleasant. We started from the Awesome Avenue cache on Summit Rd and visited the anti aircraft site on the way. The views from here were amazing in all directions and a great spot to have our picnic lunch. Dropped off a TB and junior cacher was delighted with his swap. Just amazing that this cache is nearly 17 years old and still going strong! Tftc, fave point awarded for the stunning views.
We parked the car close by the "Awesome Avenue" cache and went for a very enjoyable walk up to the summit of Mt. Pleasant. The scenery is stunning, and on this warm winter's day the conditions were perfect. It was a great place to stop for a picnic. Junior cacher was interested in watching the paraglider who took off whilst we were there. It was well worth the walk to the summit - the path was well formed and relatively easy. Care was needed here and there when there was a muddy patch, but it was easy enough to walk round it. The cache was a quick find. Lots of goodies inside and TipsyTui (who I was caching with) added more. Thanks for placing a cache in this awesome spot. FP awarded.
We wanted to start a tour with this cache, proceeding towards the anti-aircraft batteries above Lyttelton, but then discovered that the way was blocked by a new fence... So we searched for this cache and then went looking for the Icarus cache. TFTC!
A little behind in the logging, but was on a caching adventure with a group of Westies: rebel98, rustynz and gorby.
Thanks for the hides, another caching adventure

With a group of Westies (rustynz, rebel98, gorby and ivss_xx) on a caching adventure around Christchurch
All I can say, is that the legs are getting tired, and we took the easy way to the top!
What an amazing place to hide a cache. The city is hidden under thick cloud cover, but we get to see down into Lyttleton harbour, and we are above the cloud, standing in the sun.
As to the cache we spread out, and I was onthe right level, but I had walked over the cache. It was not until I spread out, and looked back, there it was. All safe and sound (not in the obvious spot hahahaha)
Thanks Mat, Stephanie, Mike,Rachael, Lexie for the hide, and bringing us to this special place.

Rustynz, Rebel98 and myself Gorby are Westies from Auckland. We regularly head away on cheap flights to here and there, this time we have flown to Christchurch for a another 3 day adventure of fun and caching. Today we have the company of Ivss_xx, ex Westy of Auckland now residing in colder climes here in ChCh.
We didn't know until we got here that you could actually drive right up to GZ just about. We dared to go thru the first gate to save our tired legs but parked up close to the second gate. It was just 100m walk to GZ now, cheeky eh!
The views today aren't what you would expect, the sun is out but the cloud cover is amazing! Here and there objects point out over the cloud, very surreal. Rusty finds the cache in no time at all, sign in and take a heap more fotos. We would probably never see a sight like this again!
Thanks for bringing us here.
