this cache has been disabled for 15 months and nothing been done about it. At 9 months of been disabled a write note was put on it and not replied too. Its not going to get replaced. Time to go.
Now that the weather is on the improve, I'm looking at heading in to these parts of the world again before it gets too hot and snakey. Will this one that's been disabled for 9 months be making a return soon?
Some how or other this cache had been removed and relocated to Tillite track. Today we retrieved it from there and went to relocate, but left the cache container in the car. Doh! That is a tough walk but at least we got to see an echidna. Back again soon.
Today we head out with earhlight to do a days caching, something we haven't done for a while, found nowhere where it was suppose to be. TFTC
Veni. Vidi. Vici. Scripsi. Found and signed at Tillite Track. Looks like it has been there for a while. Signed log and replaced. Gratias pro cache
Found the container, but nowhere near the given coordinates!

Found it is bloody beautiful down in this gorge reminds me of being a kid love this game
Better success with this one after a DNF on the ‘Dam.
*Cache or Check* located this one in a jiffy - quite impressive. Huge cave offered some cool air. This whole area is just so relaxing to walk through.
Thanks for the cache, stanleys

The Sturt Gorge is such an undervalued area. This was only my second visit here, bit I am sure to come back more often. A great walk with 5 creek crosses. We took shelter in the cave and assessed the notes. They must have been very good as I found the cache in the second spot I looked.
Another clue obtained!
Thanks Stanleys for taking us here

My 2nd attempt after a long break but this time was I was successful. I love areas such as this, you feel like your alone, a million miles from anybody, just nature and me. Thanks for bringing me here. Left a pencil as cache pen not working.
No Luck, great walk though, the waterfall about 200m up stream is esspecially good, I'll be back
Returned today with Roffer to have another go at this one. Armed with Huurtle's suggested coordinates, we walked straight up to the cache! There is a hole in the container, but everything is still dry and in good condition.
Grabbed the final available clue of the series - now off to find "Fallen Log". TFTC.

We enjoyed the walk down and along the river, very picturesque with the water flowing nicely.
Spent about an hour looking in and around the caves but never found the cache.
The trek back up the hill after a DNF was not the most pleasant. Will have to come back and try again another time.

Had a bit of trouble finding this the GPS sent me over the river read the logs and found the correct numbers no problems a neat hide. This is a great walk am looking forward to my next cache in this area.SL.TFTC.
Spnt ages running around the general area, myu GPSr was pointing everywhich direction. I was climbing cliffs, belly up in the cave, crossing the creek over and over, till I was about to give up and saw it just sitting there..
Nice treck down from gate 12 and then along the river. River crossings were reasonable despite recent rains. Took about 20 mins to track down the cache in the GZ but eliminated several options by considering the river level.
The cache has a cracked lid and a hole but the contents kept dry by the zip lock bags. Clue is very faded but just legible.
Was getting late so I decided to go for the final cache of the series another day. Hope I can track it down without the clue from the missing cache of the series.

Had a lot if trouble getting the GPS to lock on but we finally found that we were standing right beside it haha. Beautiful location. Tftc. Took hackey sack, left toy roaches
I think we found this one but we are not sure as my co-ordinates show a slightly different area as well as my Google Maps. There was no cave and we were on a cliff face. My GPS showed that we were at 35.037341, 138.574505. How do we know if it is a different / new one?
Okay, I have looked into it more and the one we found is not this Geocache. My problem is that the location where I found this one it is not recorded on the Map as a GC number or Icon at the location.
Help!

My adventure cache for the morning. Made my way down into the gorge. Went off-road, pretty much 'as the crow flies'. Not bad, there are some nice animal trails to use. The tricky part is just before you reach the bottom, particularly with the recent rain. With the amended co-ords, I stepped/slipped/stumbled across the rapidly flowing creek and made the find. Returned up the same way (not something I would recommend). Awesome cache!! TFTC stanleys.
PS Checked out a few caves while I was down there.

What a pleasant walk though somewhat strenuous on the way back. Took a while to find it as the GPS put the GZ in the middle of the creek. Just about to give up when bingo in the last place I looked. The cave was interesting. TFTC.
Well not having a succesful day today. I gave this one ago and got down to the river with a few scratches [B)] on the poor tired legs, found the cave and GZ but couldnt find cache, will try again another day.
What a lovely walk to this cache! This is a top cache for daddy-daughter caching: stepping stones, kid's swaps and a cave to boot! Beaut!

Found today with the flying scots and geobuddies trio
Searched for a while in high terrain and in the wrong place until u read the logs. The alternative coords took us straight to it. The cache had a large fire ant nest in and around it, so knocked out and moved about 20cms.
Took the wrong way out and tried to hack back to the dam base, was not a good move with two small dogs and 3 kids!
Thanks for the cache, was absolutely beautiful down here today after all the recent rains.

Great to find this cache after a few weeks off. Amazingly beautiful spot too! TFTC! SL.
Nice easy find once I stopped looking under the large leaning rock nearby. TNLN SL TFTC.
I enjoyed the walk down here, somewhere I have never been before. Thanks for leading me down here. I found the cache a bit exposed so I covered it up a bit better after I signed the log. TFTC.. Finally onto the 5th mystery cache now I have the co-ordinates!

First time we'd been in this part of the gorge, the previous times being further upstream.
Glad to have a mild day, but would have had more fun if there was some water flowing .
So, with 4 star terrain rating, we started our search, having lots of fun scampering around the rocks. After 15 minutes, we found it in a 2 star terrain place - is that where it's supposed to be [?].
Took dinosaur. Left lizard. SL. The container has a hole in it, so put the swaps in a sealed bag. Clue co-ords are very difficult to read.
Thanks Stanleys.

The second find for the day.
We had difficulty making sure we had the right crossover points but got there in the end.
We enjoyed the walk there and Sophie went to look at the cave while I looked around for the cache. Found lots of really good spots but no cache. Then I said to Sophie what about there? And it was.
As we headed off to the Fallen Log Sophie saw a brown snake slither away. Told her to keep talking loudly to let the snakes know we were coming.

A very pleasant stroll down to the river from Gorge Rd which didn't involve much boulder hopping, just one (see picture). It was absolutely beautiful along the creek there with lots of water flowing and vivid green.
Arrived at GZ and started hunting around. After no luck, went and looked at the logs. Tried the suggested GZ (S 35° 02.213 E 138° 35.012) which put it on the other side of the creek. It was all flowing a bit too fast and full to boulder hop across it. Thought that we might just have to come back another day when the water level was a bit lower but couldn't bear the thought of being so close but yet so far, so Mr TiedyeSmileys took off his shoes and socks, rolled up his pants and plunged in. The cache was then soon in hand.
A fun little walk.

Reading the logs made all the difference. Hurtle's coords (S 35° 02.213 E 138° 35.012) did the trick. Had briefly looked nearby yesterday but thought it was a bit of a long shot. Was sitting there in the first place we looked today. With only a trickle in the creek James enjoyed traversing the rocks rather than using the track. And where they were too far apart, wading through the water! Thanks Stanleys.
A clear case of we should have read the logs. Searched gz for ages but nothing. Turns out it isn't at gz (ahhh! - we searched the wrong side of the creek) so will return soon.
A magnificent walk along the river bed of the Sturt gorge to collect the fourth cache in this excellent series. Only a gentle flow in the river so crossing wasn't a problem and a quick find even though the GPS said I still had 13 metres to go to gz. Reading the logs of other cache-rs that have done this series is super helpful as the cords can prove to be a bit inaccurate.

Winterdragon and I searched for over an hour near where our to GPS receivers told us to, and tried to take into account the error other people have mentioned. Out of desperation I climbed up the side of the gorge until I got phone reception, and gave Freddo a call. He made it clear that we were looking on the wrong side of the gorge. Took a very rapid trip back down the gorge (see photo of the trail of destruction), and after cleaning all the dirt off my arms, we crossed over to the correct side of the gorge and found the cache immediately - the cache was quite visible from the path. So, don't be fooled if your GPS points to the south side.
After that, we sat and enjoyed our lunch in the cool by the river, before starting the very nice walk towards the final of this series, and forgetting to go and actually look at the cave..

Yep, we made this way harder than it needed to be, scaling various parts of the wrong side of the gorge for over an hour. I think we'd have been totally DNF'ed if Uni hadn't thought of climbing up to the top for a phone call. After he recovered from his spectacular descent, we crossed over and found the cache sitting in plain sight, in a spot we'd walked past on the way over. Ouch. Oh well, it ended well.

We found our 5th Stanleys cache at 12:00pm as the 8th of 23 on our Southern Adelaide Ramble with Cold Freeze and Bazzars. Minus Bazzars actually on this one as he was still recovering from the Revolution cache and stayed in the car. This cache was both excellent yet not at the same time. The description on the cache page was what made me want to beeline for this cache and the scenery was everything I had hoped for. The walk down and along the creek was just fantastic and the creek crossings did not pose a problem with the low water level at the moment. When we arrived at GZ I mentioned to Cold Freeze that I was extremely concerned that Stanleys co-ordinates had already gained a reputation of being fairly inaccurate on the caches we had done so far, so in such a gorge, I was fairly sure that we were going to have a lot of trouble. My GPSr was still pointing 20m to go so I stopped to check the previous logs, when Cold Freeze just happened to check a likely spot and we were really, really, really, really lucky to find it with those listed co-ords and no clue. With so many people once again concurring on the inaccuracy, this series really needs an urgent do over. If this was done, the diverse scenery would really bring me to the point of recommending this cache but currently I just couldn't. The place once again though was just brilliant though and we checked over the cave before caching on once more. Thanks for the cache from D B-A.
A night time approach this time. The river has abated as the rains disappear from Adelaide again. A skip and a jump, and another, and another. Seriously wondering about zee approach. Sheesh.
The cache was quickly found. Must be my lucky night.
The cache was quickly found. Must be my lucky night.
Descending into the dark with the distant sound of water flowing was a brilliant feeling.[8)] Knowing that some creek crossings were required, the white water sound had me wondering if we could make it. But I needn't have worried, I was with the famous amphibian. Though even he was forced back the other week.
Crossing 1 - done. Crossing 2 - a bit shaky. Crossing 3 required a large jump. I think the water was on the limit of what could be regarded as a dry feet experience. Even though it had not rained for a week, there was still plenty of seepage to make the Sturt flow.
At GZ, we hunted around. The Astro mojo switch was luckily enabled so the baby was found in a reasonable time. Plenty of hide spots - always a tougher ask under the stars. Luckily Jupiter was at the zenith which added some much needed photons.
Now off to the Log. Just down the track (which was easy to follow in the dark. [^]
Clear skies and our thanx to the Stanleys from TeamAstro. [^]
Returned again with new coordinates...that took me back to where I was looking before. Last time I think I actually climbed on the cache! This time I heard it when I did!
Gorge was lovely again today, really is a great place.
Gorge was lovely again today, really is a great place.
Approached cache without a river crossing, possibly not recommended. Spent the next 2 hours looking for this cache as I had all day, for once. The initial coords had me in the middle of the river or the south bank which I'm pretty sure was wrong going by the number of crossings required. As such about 90 minutes was spent searching everywhere along the north cliff with no success. This penultimate DNF for the day set me up for a fail with the final in the series. Unfortunatly I discovered when I got home I only had the last 3 logs with me and not the crucial ones with the corrected coords.
You know all of that water that we had seen in the stream. Well it was not being held back by the dam. River crossing 1 was under water. So was river crossing 2.
Not that this had to be a complete disaster as I could have got to the correct river crossing 2. Albeit at 4.5 star terrain. But I was never going to get across at RC3.
Did someone mention drought.

Yes we went back again. We enjoyed ourselves crossiing the river several times again. ....We searched for a while and we were just about to give up, then I remembered Alex's comment. So we changed GZ and found it!!!!. Thanks to Alex.
Thanks Stanleys for the cache.
Thanks Stanleys for the cache.
We managed to crossed the river several times without getting wet but we could not find the cache. We searched for about one hour!!!!! We will be back soon.
Found the cache at 1.40pm. Accompanies with Joan for the day. We enjoyed walk along to the cache. Gee!! good joking we searched everywhere again Joan found it... Thanks Stanleys for organising the cache and hunt.
For some reason, none of the "corrected" co-ords got saved with the logs. Regardless, we searched up to 20m around the GZ but no luck. We thought we were following a geotrail at one stage but nothing in the end! Lets hope third time gets lucky!
I didn't have the corrected coordinates but I did have the recent logs so I knew the given were not good. I did three or four sweeps up and down the gorge until I picked up the faint geotrail and found the prize. Took a train whistle (I might need it to summon help on the way out!). My GZ coords are listed. Now onto the main prize.
Having driven all the way accross town this morning we took the opportunity to finish this series. Armed with the new co-ords we had the cache in hand within a couple of minutes of arriving at GZ. We searched very close to this spot last time and don't know how we didn't find it but the GPS had us spending most of our time searching the other side of the river.

Final find of the nineteen for the day. I was intending going on to Fallen Log but decided against it when distance to the cache became known as I didn't want to get caught stumbling around the gorge in failing light. Fallen Log will have to wait for another day. TFTC
The penultimate of the series and by far the most enjoyable cache we have done for a long time. This is why I love this hobby and just one day of caches like this almost makes up for all the crappy micros thrown under bushes.
It has all the right ingredients: A great walk; useful and informative notes, and corrected co-ords from a beta-tester . We used Hurtle’s numbers at the end and although even that was a bit out, it lead us to notice the geotrail and the cache was soon ours.
Took a soccer ball keyring and left a hacky-sack ball and a TFTC card. TFTC

Returned this afternoon and with the assistance of Hurtles coordinates (they got me onto the right side of the river!) it was a relatively quick search - compared to my last visit
swapped a button light & wooden train whistle for the calculator. Then it was off for a very nice walk to a fallen log.
Cheers
Oh & Hurtle, the troop 185 TB isn't in there.
Neither is the labyrinth geocoin that I accidentally dropped in here online - it's in the fallen log cache - can the next finder please rectify?

I don't think I dropped 'Troop 185' TB in here, and I won't be returning down THAT hill to put it there either. So can next finder confirm either way please? Or if I can find it in the meantime.... Thanks
managed to soak feet within 5 minutes of getting to the river... done very gracefully...
dog took a dunking too.. not so graceful....
always enjoy a good rock hopping, fantastic place.
cache was a bit tricky . about 15 min to find.
team hurtles waypoint proved to be helpful

thanks stanleys!!!
Spent awhile searching for this one... Was almost not going to try, but a FTF was in the offering if I could beat the mighty 4fun(he hasn't logged his DNF!) to it and the final....
Took a reading at the cache location(see above), but was still only an accuracy of 5.2m! Located about 20m from where gps kept taking me, on average.
In the end using the notes, rather than the co-ords I did find the FTF prize!
That's the 4th and now for the final 'Fallen Log'.

I had a very nice little walk directly down the hill to where the GPS said GZ was but despite about 45mins of scrambling up & down the cliff I couldn't locate a cache. According to the instrument at the top of the cliff GZ was 1m away (over the cliff) and from the bottom it was 5m away (into the cliff!) All I have to do now is find that cave enterance!!
Eventually ran out of time but I'll be back soon.

We started descending but realised soon that it was getting too dark too quick as we were armed with everything but torches so we had no option but to turn around. Doh!
Shall be back!

Came down here in an attempt to treat Pa Kettle to a FTF for Father's Day. The walk down was lovely and we made all crek crossings without any boys falling in the water. The blue pole wasn't really visible as it was laying down in the middle of the river, but that was ok. Tried to get a good sat lock to get us to GZ, but the arrow was swinging around everywhere. Eventually, it settled down, but was pointing back across the other side of the river. Found what seemed to be a GZ but it was on the wrong side of the river to what we thought it should be. Spent quite bit of time searching, but not being sure that we were in the right place, gave up. Climbed up and had a quick look in the cave the walked back to the car.
Lovely area though....we'll be back!
