Found on another enjoyable trip with FeatherWaite over 3-weeks through South Australia, Northern Territory and Western Australia. This time the plan was to head up to Kings Canyon, across to the WA border via Uluru and Kata-Tjuta, then down the Great Central Road, with a few side-trips along the way before eventually getting to the Goldfields and home via Queen Victoria Springs and the Eyre Highway.

We had some mixed weather to start, with a few overnight showers, bit warm temperatures and mostly sunny days.

It was disappointing to see that this cache had been archived only three weeks ago, not because of any reported lack of maintenance, but simply because a few people couldn’t find it!!

We thought we’d have a look for it anyway. After checking out the cave we wandered around the base of the hill and saw something that resembled the hint up the top where the GPS was pointing. It was a scramble to get up there, but what remained of the cache was quickly found right where we expected, without having to use the GPS A subsequent check revealed that the listed coordinates were quite accurate.

The logbook (marked #2) was in a plastic bag and although dry, was in quite poor, but still usable condition. Given that the cache has been archived by the Reviewer, we cleaned up what was left and removed it from the area. The logbook was retained for return to the CO iif required.

It is a great spot for a cache and we did consider placing a new one there. However, the area is Aboriginal Freehold Land and without prior permission from the landowners, it wasn’t appropriate. Hopefully someone might be able to organise something in the future.

Thanks way-finder for the cache.

Found during three weeks away with e.gregory1 on a trip along WA's Great Central Road and a caching circuit of the WA Goldfields. We travelled North on the Stuart Highway and out to Kings Canyon to Uluru and Kata Tjuta. From there we headed in a south-westerly direction along the Great Central Road with a number of detours along the way, including Surveyor Generals Corner and Empress Spring. Then it was down to Laverton and Leonora before turning South to Menzies and Kalgoorlie. A few days were spent on a circuit back up to Lake Carey and around to Queen Victoria Spring before returning to Kalgoorlie, then out to Coolgardie, Kambalda and Norseman, and heading for home along the Eyre Highway. Very disappointed that this cache had been archived just weeks ago. Based on the clue we climbed up and found it within seconds and without the use of a GPS. Because it had been archived we removed the remnants of the container and the logbook, the latter being in reasonable condition, but a little faded under exposure to the elements. Thanks for the cache way-finder!

I am regretfully archiving this cache since unfortunately there has been no action to restore it, or any communication from the cache owner, way-finder, requesting additional time.

An ample opportunity has been provided for the Cache Owner to respond, but since this opportunity has been ignored, I can only conclude that the cache has been abandoned.

Caches archived under these circumstances are unable to be Unarchived, and this location is now available for the placement of a new cache, by somebody else.

###Cache Maintenance Visit Required please.###
This geocache has been brought to my attention as needing an Owner Maintenance visit, as the logs indicate that it is most likely missing, or else some other problem exists with the cache. See the [GCHQ Health Score](https://www.geocaching.com/help/index.php?pg=kb.chapter&id=38&pgid=713) process.
I agree that it certainly seems necessary to have it checked by the Cache Owner.

The cache owner needs to:

* Take action to restore the cache or address issues such as correcting the D/T rating.
* Re-enable the cache by posting an Enable log
* Post an Owner Maintenance log to advise what has been done and to clear any Needs Maintenance attribute which is present.

Otherwise :
* Post a Note Log to request more time if necessary or provide other information..
**Do not use an Owner Maintenance log for this. That is for use only **when you actually do something to repair the cache**.

Alternatively:

* Archive the cache, and remove any remaining geo-litter from the site.

In the meantime, I've temporarily disabled the cache page to await owner action by way-finder and to take it off the playing board to prevent further geocaching community inconvenience.
[Please see the maintenance section of the Geocache Hiding Guidelines.](https://www.geocaching.com/play/guidelines?expand=1#cachemaintenance)
**I will check back in 30 days** to see that action has been by the CO.
If nothing has happened, I will assume that the cache has been abandoned, and, unfortunately, I will need to Archive this cache.
*Caches archived because of lack of maintenance/abandonment will not be unarchived.*

The Geocaching Community needs to have a degree of certainty that a cache is in good condition, waiting to be found, and the CO has a responsibility to maintain their caches.

Please see [my profile page](https://www.geocaching.com/p/default.aspx?u=Balayang) for additional information.
Thank you

Tried everywhere without any luck

05-Jul-22
Found after a decent climb. Container is broken but log is in good condition. The view is worth the climb!

26-Jun-22
What a scramble. Gz has me looking 5 metres away. Finally found it. Container is getting brittle.

10-Jun-22
When we found this cache it was 3m above the clue. ( We found it a few years ago so things can change)
A nice climb but watch your footing as you don't want to take a tumble in such a remote place.

26-Apr-22
Today I got a lift early from Warakurna. We did a quick stop here and I searched for 15 minutes for the cache with no luck Sad

Nice views though

11-Apr-22
As one of the more recent finders of this cache, and after a long string of dnf's, we managed to locate it in great condition. I have little doubt it is still there, but requires a little persistence and luck to locate it. It holds great memories for our adventure and it would be sad if it were to be archived because some people find it a bit hard. Not all caches are park and grabs thankfully.

23-Aug-21
I was 1m from the cache but couldn’t find it no matter which rock I scrambled to. Why is a cache placed in a difficult place after such a difficult climb and drive to get to it? Just a grumpy old 73 man complaining. Age is just a number.

18-Oct-19
TFTC good view, good hide.

08-Oct-19
We went over the top of the cave. Mum thought it might be easier to go up from the river bed instead (it was). Although we were in the right spot the ghosts didn't give up the cache. This one is not recommended for older geocachers or very young children.

Unfortunately, a DNF on our Big Trek to Uluru and Alice Springs.

01-Sep-19
After the string of dnfs I was a little worried about driving out here. After spending a few days around Uluru, the plan was to head west...er to add a new WA souviener... lol.
Permit was sorted and off we drove. We passed a pretty horrific caravan accident near Kata Tuta and considered aborting the mission when we hit the corregated road but the hope to spot some camels and the chance for a bit of an adventure kept us going.

We arrived at the parking spot and saw what we needed to do. After considering all options we chose to go straight up. There were better ways in this heat but up we went.

I'd reviewed the previous logs way back when we had phone reception so had some idea where we needed to be. At GZ there were so many potential hides but luck was on our side today. Before long the container was in hand and we had to figure out how to get down.

The return trip was marginally easier, and the cave area was really interesting with a sad history. Thanks for bringing us out here. We would never had made this journey without geocaches out here to find but we'll worth the trip.

25-Aug-19
After 2 of us being mountain goats for quite some time. We gave up. There has been a fire recently so don’t know if it burnt or what.

08-Aug-19
Stupid place some people put things, think of the older not so agile cachers

29-Jul-19
Climbed up to within 18 meters of cache, then aborted as it was getting to much for me

27-Jun-19
Travelling with 2beez. We searched for a good half an hour with no luck. Could see likely spot, if reading hint correctly, the tree has split in half and halfway down the hill side. Checked area but no luck.

Great spot. Enjoyed our visit.

27-Jun-19
Searched high and low for at least 1/2hr but we couldn't locate the cache with Crack n Lee Lee

26-Jun-19
No luck for us, just too many flies to allow for a thorough search. So relunctently we gave up.

05-Jun-19
Found it in good condition, the bush fire didn't affect the cache TFTC

21-May-19
Our journey towards Quorn for the SA June Long Weekend is taking us across The Outback Way.

Lots of flies, corrugations, dust, flies, corrugations, caches, flies and more flies. Lol.

Replaced the broken lid here.

gosh I did go straight up but I found a better way down. But the ute that drove into the area and started shooting gave me a start. with my permit clutched tightly in my hand knowing that I may not go ANYWHERE except transiting and refuelling I was a bit hesitant to clamber up here. Well, the shooting spooked me! But the folk in the ute were very happy waving and cheering us on!! Perhaps there was a kangaroo on the barbie in the settlement that night!

Searched for an hour and couldn’t find

12-Jun-18
The Big Western Australia trip in 2018. Day 40. The last day on the Great Central Road took me into the Northern Territory and through Docker River and Yulara to a Stuart Highway roadside rest stop. I also was bale to see Kata Juta and Uluru on the way past.

The last Outback way cache on the dirt took me down to this cave. I was surprised at the challenge to get to the cache. Also it took me to another rocky environment that proved very challenging to me to locate the cache. I am sure I walked around GZ 10 time3s before I noticed the right spot. Great view and I went down a much safer way.

Thanks.

After spending 4 days in Alice springs it was time to drive back to Perth. Stopped to grab some caches along the way to break up the journey and stretch the legs. All caches were found and a big thanks to all the CO,S for placing these caches for us and others to find.

TFTC! What a magnificent spot. Amazing views from the top.

19-Jun-17
Did not find. Spent ages ar ground zero and no cache. Due the steepness and the loose rocks and the risk of encountering a snake this cache needs to be relocated to a safe place. At present the risk of personal injury in a very remote location is a real possability.

31-May-17
That's not exactly true it was far too steep for Fetch or myself to find the cache. Ok if your young and fit!!
But TFTC anyway interesting place ..

12-May-17
Arrived at the parking area and walked along to the cave. Noted the terrain rating and thought oh no, not again. Wasn't going to let it defeat us, so up it was again. Got to the top and somehow managed to check all around the right place before making the find. Took a different route down (no better) and was relieved to get down safe and sound. Thanks to way-finder for the last of this series. We have now completed our goal of finding all the caches in The Outback way series.

I found the hard way up to this cache but the view was pretty spectacular. Thecave site was also very interesting and we had a great break from all the corrigations. Thanks for the cache

My favourite so far for the series. We parked and had lunch to recharge before making the climb up. SVKR_WA had a slip and for a minute was worried had done some ankle damage but all good. A great climb up picking our way before hitting GZ and I luckily made the find. This could have taken a long time with so many hidey holes available.
Log signed and returned as found. A fav from me.

Day 3 on our trip to Alice from Perth. 639km yesterday. SVKR_WA and I have had this plan coming together for some time now.
After a relaxing night at Yarla Kutjarra, we made our way to Uluru. Planning a couple of days around the rock before the final stretch to Alice Springs.

I can't wait to catch up with everyone again at
[WA GOES BIG 2017](https://coord.info/GC6TD11) in Rockingham, WA.
Perths big event is on again.
**See you there**.

way-finder - Kyzabra found your cache Lasseter's Ghost . The cache is in good shape and we replaced it as found. Thanks for placing and maintaining your cache.!

10-Apr-17
We stopped here for lunch before heading off to the cache. We felt a bit like mountain goats but after a few stumbles made it to GZ. It wasn't long before the cache was in hand.

A fave for the view. This would be a marvellous oasis if the river was flowing.

Travelling on the Road Trip to end all Road Trips. Kyzabra and I are travelling from Perth to Alice Springs (via the Great Central Road) for the Red Centre Experience Event over Easter. We are travelling in Kyzabra's GeoPajero and grabbing caches along the way of course.

Day 3 - After a great day yesterday we again rose early, packed and were on the road by 6am. Heading for Uluru today, we plan to stop at Giles
Weather Station, the border for photos and grab all the caches aing the way.

way-finder - SVKR_WA found your cache Lasseter's Ghost on 10/4/17, 13:29. This is my find #1926 and find #5 today.

The cache is in good shape and we replaced it as found. Thanks for placing this and bringing us to this spot!

09-Apr-17
We were looking for a night camp, knowing it wasn't allowed at Lasseters. We'd followed a track along the west side of the river and I turned on the phone to discover that I was less than 200m away. A quick clamber and it was in hand. We didn't camp as there were ants. TFTC

08-Apr-17
Got it on way to Alice Springs with a few others.TFTC

08-Apr-17
Hard climb to the top but excellent views once there so well worth it.
Cache found and log signed then we spent some time looking over this amazing place.
We saw hundreds of zebra finches and were amazed when standing in the sandy river to see how high the water rose by all the debris in the trees.
I felt such sadness in the cave thinking of how Lasseter must of felt in making the decision to stay or leave.
Thank you for bringing us to this amazing place way-finder. A favourite point here.

08-Apr-17
What a sad story of Lasseter in the hot arid australian bush! Walked along the dry creek bed awhile and noticed how high the water flows in a flood. Found this cache on Day 8 of our trek to Alice Springs, and GeoHuntorz was the first one to the cache. TFTC way-finder and a fave from me for bringing us to this spot!

08-Apr-17
On my way to The Red Centre Experience mega event in Alice Springs over Easter 2017 with m4yb, traveling in Max the GeoUte staying in Jonathan Swift the GeoCamper.

Our last day before arriving in Yulara/Kata Tjuta /Uluru. Bit surprised by the road conditions on getting to here, not as bad as I was expecting. Sad story but wow what a slice of our history right there.

Thanks so much for placing this cache to brighten up our trip, way-finder. Still some more of yours next week.

08-Apr-17
A plan was hatched many moons ago to head up to Alice Springs for the Red Centre Experience, and finally after months of planning, here we are.

We met up with the other teams headed across the GCR at Docker River overnight. We shared some storied and some laughs. It was then on the road again towards Yulara. This one was the only cache for the day, And a good one at that. We were impressed with the road on the territory side of the border, much better than expected.

A beautiful creek down here and a nice hill to climb early in the morning. I met up with Team Red Roo and Geohuntorz at the top.

TFTC way-finder.

way-finder, I found your cache Lasseter's Ghost on 8/4/17.

Hideeho Thanks for the cache:) Still shocked and saddened and ashamed to be an American this two days out from disaster . But at least there was still some cache to look for on our last day in the out back. A very long drive from the Ayers rock resort and very hot by the time we arrived mid day. Did the hike up slowly and were totally perplexed by the hint. It took several passes by my self and my Main Man to be able to come up with the cache and so glad we did at this historic site.

I had a look for this one on my Sydney to Perth bicycle ride.
I searched in several clue locations. The gps kept moving me on to another every time I got to one.
There has been a great deal of rain in the last week I just wonder if it's been washed away??
I hope it's still there but sadly I'll never be back to find it.

Found at 9:28 AM GAFF1 in the company of Ian&Sue - Team Pathfinder..
This is one of the caches that we really wanted to do as we had heard so much about this guy and his "lost gold". We were wondering why we had to go up on the top of the hill and then we saw what Lassiter must have seen every day as he scrambled up the hill to see if there was anyone in the vicinity of about 25 kms! Must have been quite anxious to wait and wonder if anyone was going to come by.
Thanks way-finder.

I really don't understand what Lasseter was thinking, coming out here in the middle of summer - must have been gold fever [xx(].
Having said that, those early explorers were amazing, travelling along knowing their water was running short, but still pushing forward to explore the area Surprised.
Even today, this place is a reminder of how unforgiving this country is when something goes wrong [xx(]. RIP.
Thanks Way-finder.

Travelling home to WA with our caravan in tow we pulled into the picnic area to find this cache and have a cuppa. The country around here reminded me so very much of our Pilbara home. Our two Jack Russells enjoyed the opportunity to stretch their little legs and we enjoyed the walk over to find the cache. I must say I had imagined a much larger cave than the one we found and felt for poor Lasseter all alone trying to shelter in it. I have over the years head the name Lasseter mentioned along with stories of his journey, although interested it really didnt mean much until coming out here bought him to life.

We really enjoyed our visit, it is a shame though that others have left this place without removing their rubbish.

Container is a thin, plastic takeaway which has shattered. Logbook has been weakened by rain. Needs replacing. Sorry, my tin was too small to contain the log book, so we placed the stash into ziplock bags. If anyone is coming along, a 500g tin would be good.

23-Aug-14
Found at 4:10pm we are pleased to say. We've driven 4500km on some of the worst roads in the country, finally reached the cave and were disappointed to find we then had at least a 15min loose rock scramble to a perilous edge of the rocks to actually qualify for the find! Sad We don't think this is really necessary and it's definitely not inclusive. Many would not be able or wish to take the chances of injury. We can't see that it would detract at all from the cache if it were within 10 metres of the cave. It wouldn't prevent anyone from climbing the hill to see the wonderful view! P.S. The trackable "Anema Web Warrior" is not in the cache.
