Great spot, never knew it existed, tftc

Caching from WA west coast to ACT for 2 megas. TFTC.I walked the grasses, then the mangroves, then the reeds, then the bracken and palms, then the rain forest and finally the gums.Great location and then time to head back.I decided to go directly to the road. Bad idea. That became very thick. A tough bush bash, and I have done many.It was a great relief to finally get to the road. Then another 2km walk back.

This was the third on my list of afternoon National Park bush bash caches...and by far the toughest. I didn't make it any easier by only getting to Mainbar around 5:30pm so in the end I was in almost total darkness by the time I returned to the trail. Mud crabs, deer and wonderful bird life provided pleasant animal companions on the way out, but the incessant buzzing was a concern and while I thought I was keeping them a bay, I discovered when I returned home that my back had provided a feast for around 150 mosquitoes during the journey! Apart from that and the head high ribbon grass on the way out, it was a tough but rewarding journey to find this fantastic old cache - as expected given the most recent visitors out here, all is in great condition and safe from the elements.

Found It!
Made the trek in here with a few others from the nearby event. We took the hard (muddy) way in, found the cache and then took the easy track out. Nice spot for a cache, not sure about the fishing here though!

Well I've considered this cache over the years and have walked part way here with another hobby but the last couple of years it has been way too wet to do it.
Today with the Sutherland Shire Winter Winterwonderland Cachers Meet and Greet in Bundeena for 2023 jennyfromthefarm took this perfect opportunity to organise a group of us to see what fishermen get up to in this neck of the woods.

Well it was raining, of course, not that we noticed as we walked except for it being a bit wet underfoot. I wore gum boots just in case. They kept my feet dry but didn't stop the leeches. I managed to fight off one and a squidgee one when I got back to the geomobile but another was lucking somewhere I couldn't see. Found the evidence when I got home!

So the cache - well you must be a really keen fisherman to come all the way here and have a mighty strong arm to cast your line all the way to the water. Still it is a lovely spot to sit and enjoy our magnificent Aussie bush.

I came to the winter wonderland event with an agenda to launch a group to fisherman’s cache… I’m sorry I wasn’t able to get to the event earlier or stay for longer but I was coming directly from paramatta where I spent the morning at a farewell retirement party for a colleague.
Jackscruff, laighside legends and Everesthigh set out with me into middle earth for one hell of an adventure. Went in on a swampier terrain and then came out on a better path but you know what I thoroughly enjoyed the adventure and picked up 2.5 leeches on the way. Two that I removed and left in the field and one that I found squished inside my sock when I got home.
This cache has been on my to do list for a long while and today I was thankful to have caching companions as the terrain was tricky to navigate. Think Artax in neverending storey if you take the swampy route!
What a well spent Saturday!
Jackscruff supplied a container for cache maintenance and I carried it in. Hopefully this lasts at least another ten years for this really worthwhile cache that is off the beaten path.
Have a FP and TFTC

Went fishing with our 4 person fishing party of JennyFromTheFarm, Jackscruff, LaighsideLegends and I. Found the cache container broken, so put contents in a new dry container, and left the old one there for posterity. A Fav Pt from me. TFTC bushy2233

Wow, nearly destroyed a pair of shoes doing this. What a tough challenge this was. Plenty of soft spots that I started to sink in even though it hasn't rained in a while. Then all of a sudden with 120m to go, the landscape changes so rapidly. A tough one to get to. Thanks for the challenge. TFTC.

bushy2233 I found your cache The Fishermans Cache on 6/6/20, 2:00 pm. This is my find 2560 and find # 10 today. Timed this trek with low tide and gum boots. Took me 35 minutes to get to GZ from Bonnie doon. Glad I chose gum boots as it was still a bit wet and muddy. Last 100 meters was just a bush bash. Overall it was a great walk on a beautiful winter’s day. Didn’t see any deer but there were a lot of tracks. Thanks for the cache, mate! TNSLLN

Another cache I have had my eye on for a number of years. I was in the area nearby picking up caches and I just had to come by and attempt this one. It was dead low tide put it was still a wet muddy walk up through the basin to the cache site. We seen many deers on our walk up. The cache was quickly located but the lid had seen better days. We made a makeshift lid with materials we found nearby to hopefully keep the contents good. Thank you for the walk

11-May-20
It was quite a walk to this cache through the mangroves and bush but we got there in the end. The lid was broken so we made a make shift lid with a sheet of styrofoam we found and tied it on with some rope we also found. Ready back through all of the notes people left in the log book was pretty cool. As they told some stories about their past experiences down here. Now for the trek back to the car!

Fun cache, great theme. The container is broken and needs replacing

18-Nov-18
I'd been wanting to find this for many many years. Extremely low tide meant the tracks were pretty dry. No problems accessing GZ. This was a lovely spot but Mrs H was getting attacked by mosquitos which meant they didn't get me. The inlet was very pretty on such a lovely day.
Unfortunately the cache had been in the wars. The lid is completely broken so the cache is open to the elements. It needs a complete replacement container. If Id known about the state of the cache I would have brought one along. Maybe the next cache could do a good deed and bring one.

Found at 10:31 AM GAFF1.
We were camped at Bonny Vale camp ground for the Sutherland Winter event and this cache beckoned being the closest that we hadn't found. Got on my MTB and followed some instructions to get to the end of the formed track and then it was - "your on your own now" [B)] Quite soft in patches and the deer started to move away as I was puffing and cussing.
Got to the picnic spot and then a short uphill walk to the cache which was found in the first spot that I looked in. Spent a couple of minutes recovering and looking at the scene below through the trees and then back I go - which was a lot easier as I just followed the tyre tracks [^]
Thanks bushy2233.

Out for a morning kayak in the basin to coincide with the king tide, we paddled up the beautiful Cabbage Tree Creek. On the way back we stopped for morning tea at a spot that I thought was not too far from the GZ. A check on the smart phone showed 125m. to the GZ so while the paddle buddies had a swim I set of to make the find. The container lid has disintegrated but the contents are still in reasonable condition due to the sheltered hide.

Was walking back to bonnie vale after doing the pathway series ones at maianbar and went oh why not just try for this one. The tide wasnt out so walked around the mangroves and across a real thick area until getting on some open bush and finally gz. Had a small rest when got there. After that found the cache quickly pity that the cache has a big hole in the lid. Opened it to grab the log. Was surprised to see a spin doc bob cd there. I remember those days well. On the way back from the cache i just went back tothe road and followed that back to camp tftc

It was low tide. It was muddy.
We saw four deer in the early part as well.
The cache itself was in a peaceful place, and TaurusSix and I spent a while taking in the serenity.
I enjoyed the walk and will give a favourite point for it.

After wrapping up the morning festivities at the Winter Wonderland M&G, I headed off with Team MavEtJu to look for this unloved cache. And this was the last for me to find in the Bundeena/Maianbar area. From our parking place we started via the edge of the mangroves as the tide was out. But soon it started to get a bit slushy and TMEJ was getting wet feet, so we headed to higher ground and although the vegetation and terrain was tougher we eventually covered the 800m to GZ all dry, despite a huge scratch on my face. A short drink rest, then we spotted the hidden prize! Yes - 9 months unloved!

The lid had a huge crack in it, with the contents all dry, but the log book was a bit damp and mouldy. Signed and replaced a bit further in it's hidey hole to keep it away from the elements. Maybe the next finder can bring a replacement container (2L sistema)?

Then the hike back through the scrub, and as always we found an easier option to arrive directly where the Brewmobile was parked. TFTC and thanks to TMEJ for an enjoyable walk through the bush! Smile

At the meetup at Bonnie Vale where I found out that Brewmaker hadn't done this one neither yet we put our compasses for this one and off we went. Of course we took the wrong approach and ended up with our feet wet, but once we got off the low grounds and into the highlands. Lots of trees fallen over, lots of dead leaves, lots of "this is a trail... maybe... at least for the next ten meters I hope", lots of beauty.

At GZ we had a quick snack but Brewmaker didn't have the patience and went searching for the cache. In it was a CD with a Spindoc Bob podcast in it!

Thanks for bringing me here! TFTC!

Returning to Bundeena to finish off a few that needed maintenance or I ran out of time for last week, was not going to leave this sitting lonely on my radius map as unfound. Luckily it was right on low tide and the mangrove crossing was not as bad as it could have been however this is still one of those caches you question every step of the way “at what point do I give up and turn back!?” Reaching half way and then three quarters, I was determined I was not going to try again another time and kept going until exhausted (having also battled very strong winds today), I got to within 30m and really was ready to give up climbing to where an obvious hide agreed with the arrow. Rested, had a drink and resolved I had come too far to give up now. Bit scary retrieving the cache (especially already feeling light headed) but thankfully the return journey seemed a lot easier and shorter. Shoes however needed a thorough clean (glad I had brought along a spare to change into for the rest of the day) and still yet to determine if the red marks on my arms are scratches or bites.

Streak day #248 - After spending a little bit of time chatting to the locals at the Sutherland caching event I was excited to go on a group hunt for a nearby cache with the Hancock Clan and Delloro. Everyone was a little worried that I wasn't appropriately dressed. I was asked a half dozen times by various worried cachers whether I wanted to change my shoes as the way to this cache was rather muddy in patches at present. Since it was a nice warm day I had rocked up to the event in a new red dress and a pair of black leather look ankle boots. I considered changing my shoes, but I figured if nothing else the boots should keep any water out and mud washes off. I had tested the boots by accident on Friday night while trying to get another cache. In the dark, I walked straight into a puddle. Plus they were only cheap, so if I did destroy them I could just keep them for future caching adventures. As we headed off down the track towards the cache I think the others were still worried I wouldn't make it, joking that I would be needing a piggy back, but the first mud puddle arrived and I happily picked my way through without difficulty. Getting to the cache didn't take long and overall didn't involve too much mud. Though there was a possibility of falling in a creek as we crossed a little log. At the GZ Delloro and I circled around trying to zero in on the correct spot. In the end Delloro made the find. My GPS was still trying to send me a little further away. We signed the log then headed back to where the Hancock Clan were waiting for us nearby, they had found the cache previously. Delloro took the lead to guide our little group back to our meeting point. It was a much more adventurous and muddy route to say the least. My legs got nicely scratched up by the mangroves on the way through, but since I didn't stack it in the mud I count it as a win. Mr H got a great shot of myself and Mrs H trying to find the best way through so we didn't lose our shoes or sink to our knees. We managed to mostly keep going in the right direction, but a few side tracks were needed to get around particularly thick sections of brush. Once we were back out on the flats it was cool to see all the crabs running around and amusing seeing Mr H sneak up on Mrs H to torment her with one. Just the sort of thing my mum used to do to my aunt when they were kids. Overall it was a great way to finish the event. I even earnt myself a new nickname as I was dubbed cacherella by the end of it. TFTC.

Never have I felt so underdressed for a cache. Squelched my way through the mud to GZ with the Hancocks (who had found it previously but decided to keep me company, a decision Mrs H may now regret), who were rocking very attractive matching blue and purple ensembles (which they assure me was purely coincidental), and even they were upstaged by Miss Sparklz in her red dress and boots! Definitely not hiking boots either.

We managed to make it the cache relatively unscathed, however my superior navigational skills on the return journey ensured that we were rather wet and muddy by the time we returned. All great fun and we got to see a good number of deer as well.

A great cache for me to reach my 900, and also my last cache in the Royal (for the moment apparently).

We found this cache exactly 6 years ago to the day, and today we found ourselves returning with friends, but this time just for a pleasant afternoon walk after attending the nearby geocaching event. It was a bit of a different experience this time though, but great fun, being led by our intrepid navigator and swamp guide, he who hates tracks, Delloro! Fortunately though we had Miss Sparklz with us who was very appropriately dressed for the occasion - if you like a good laugh that is! See pic!...

Attending the Sutherland Shire Cachers Meet and Greet at Bonnie Vale and I had this one next inline (#999). Stayed over night to attend the event on the Sunday.
Saturday afternoon saw us heading out to find the cache with the tide at low water. An intrepid group:
Nana Nel, Oldlids, The Trio and Aries44 with better half and grand kids X 2.
Saw some deer and a number of crabs that keep the kids amused. Youngest managed to fall over in the mud.
The direct route looked a bit bush bashy so we explored further along and discovered a better way in. A short search and we soon had the CIH. Signed the log and checked out the contents. TFTC and very enjoyable bushy2233.

01-Aug-15
When the Sutherland Shire geocaching event was posted I checked the tides out and I knew where I was going, I asked anyone else if they interested in joining me. Aries44, The Trio, The Odlid's and Mrs Aries44 and geo grandsons took off trying to dodge the outgoing tide. Then we all reached GZ, Aries44 made the find, we all signed the log and off to enjoy the overnight camping, before the event the following day.

01-Aug-15
Staying overnight at Bonnie Vale camping ground in preparation for tomorrows meet and greet day a small group of us led by Nana Nel and her knowledge of tides, as well as Aries 44 and family and The Odlids we set off over mud flats to find the elusive cache. Thanks for a great afternoon.

Well my hiking boots got a great work out.. The tide wasn't quite out far enough so there's was still a lot of water.. Yea!! Fairly dry feet.. Hiked up the hill to gz and it wasn't long to I had CIH.

On the return trip I decided to go around the edge.. Now that was tough.. Also saw what looked like a deer, but thinking it was some dog.. But it did climb the raise fairly quickly..

Now beer o'clock at the RSL.

#3,036

We spent the morning wandering around Bundeena, searching for hidden pathways. Once we had unearthed all of those, we considered this cache. We consulted a tide guide & found we were about at high tide. Could we manage it? We thought we'd give it a go.

It took us some time to figure out which way to go, but eventually we realised we'd spotted the correct track the previous afternoon, when we had walked back to our campsite from Maianbar.

The track was a little squelchy in parts, but we made it through okay. With 150m to go, we couldn't see a good way through the scrub, so kept going. Eventually we found what looked like a good route. Until we got to about 60m from the cache, spotted what we knew had to be GZ and realised we were on the wrong side of the creek. Luckily we found an easy way over the creek, struggled the rest of the way up. One of the junior Canaries made a quick find, a few metres away from the spot we'd seen from the distance.

Thanks Smile. I left a trackable in this one.

03-Aug-14
This was the highlight if the day and our last for Bundeena.

We squished and squelched to near GZ. Then we cross a little creek and we climbed. Then we crossed the creek again and climbed some more!??

Luckily it was an easy find.

Then we bushbashed back to the track and squished and squelched some more!?!

Soon we were back at our camping spot cleaning ourselves off!

Tricky climb but a great spot.

Thought I'd go and cache the Royal today. This is my first visit to Bundeena and what a beautiful and quiet place to live.
Luckily it was low tide so I could have a go at finding this cache. I put my old boots on and took the squelching track to gz. It was funny watching the crabs which couldnt find a hole to hide in try to put on a tough look and fall over backwards as I stepped over them.

25-Jan-14
Followed all the instructions to the letter for this one and found the end co-ords were spot on. I was lucky enough to have solid ground underneath my feet all the way. When I finally re-emerged from the bushes out onto the nearby beach, I surprised a group of fisherman who exclaimed: "What the ....? Where did you come from?" Aaaah ... the experiences of a cacher!

15-Jan-14
It was hard to tell until you get to the bridge what the terrain was going to be like from there to GZ as we couldn't see any paths on the map. We were therefore a little hesitant and unsure if we'd attempt this one. Once we got close and saw the low tide, though, we were sold... What a great time we had wading in the shallow water across to GZ!

In our thongs, we weren't prepared for the bushbashing to finally get to GZ but we got there in the end for a really satisfying find... TFTC and have a favourite so more people will be enticed to come down here!

15-Jan-14
THIS WAS SO MUCH FUN. Smirkwood and I were spending the day doing the hidden pathway series of caches but took a break from that to grab this one. We started walking on a rough track leading through the mangroves but then moved into the water for an enjoyable stroll out to the cache. Making our way through the bush was a bit tricky in thongs but after a while I spotted some rocks in an unnatural formation. Smirkwood then stole the cache right from under my nose!
A great place for a cache. Thank you for bringing me to a part of the national park I had forgotten all about. I'll try and come back again with more pals next time. TFTC! My favourite cache of the day

09-Oct-13
I headed to this one while completing the Hidden Pathways series. While crossing the bridge from the Maianbar side I noticed the tide was rushing in at a fast pace. I headed off into the mangroves. About half way there I started losing my shoes in the mud. It was like quicksand sucking them in. I also noticed the water coming in quite quickly. I pressed on and nearing gz I discovered an older lady sunning nude on the little beach. I don't know who was more embarrassed, me or her! GPSr spins a little around gz vicinity but I made an easy find. I then hightailed it out of there before the tide covered my tracks. It wad very muddy there today.

Had a couple hours in Bundeena. Upon arrival, I wasn't sure if I was going to attempt this cache or not. But got to the bridge, saw it was low tide, and went for it. Very enjoyable, but my gps sure wandered a lot in the last 150m Smile

Best Cache Ever!! We went for this one at high tide and had the best fun wading through the mangroves. If you are planning this one and dont mind getting wet, try it at high tide. The kids loved seeing all the fish scurry away when we approached. We were having so much fun the cache was almost forgotten about when we got to the bush bash. Onward we searched and soon had the prize at hand. After all the hard work we decided to go for a swim at the very beautiful fishing point. What Fun!! TCTC.

Being in Bundeena today I decided to take the walk out to this not often visited cache.
Parking in Bonni-vale campground I had an eyeful as 2 lovers were wrapped up in their escapades in their car as I headed towards GZ.

The labarynith of tracks were often boggy but still easy to get through. As I neared GZ I was surprised to see 2 fishermen who were equally surprised to see me. Heading off into the bush I soon had the cache in hand.
This was a lovely spot even though the wind was howling.
Thanks

Last attempt for this one ended at the road to Maianbar already as I couldn't find the right track in! Today I was doing a Trigpoint wich was only 60 meters fromn the road to Bundeena. To get there I had to go through some very thick scrub (almost 15 minutes for those 60 meters) At the trig it opened up a bit and I did my GCA duties. As I checked the next cache it said only 340 meters away!! But no tracks? Go or no go? Go ofcourse!! Bushbashed my way over, hard work, but no wet feet!! In fact i didn't even see water the whole way in and out! At GZ there was luckily a little marker wich scouts will recognise and the cache was found quickly!

I figured the tide was going to be against me but I had my oldest pair of shoes on so it didn`t matter if they got wet.............and trust me they got soaked!!! Wandered through the camping ground & found the start of a track through the mangroves, basically just followed it through water no higher than knee height even at high tide, the GPS encouragingly showing a decreasing distance to GZ. Found a good place to leave the waters edge for the last 100 metres or so & did an easy bush bash to GZ, the cache was soon in hand, now if I were a fisherman i`d have raided the cache as there was all sorts of good fisho` type stuff in there, but i`m no fisho so I settled for signing the log & taking BERT THE TB, sometimes this cache doesn`t get found very often so I thought i`d move him on. A thoroughly enjoyable trip back to "the basin", I haven`t been here for well over 20 years & it was great to re visit a peaceful & beutiful little spot. If you`re thinking of doing this cache it`s not hard, I took about 2 hours return & didn`t rush any part of the trip, tnx for bringing me here bushy 2233, great cache in a lovely spot.

Living in Bundeena, I should have completed this one years ago, took the Geodog for a nice long walk, along the beach, through the campsite along the maianbar track, but just before the bridge, hung a sharp left....
The dog was in the lead... 1.3km to go.. muddy, watery, but beutiful views and peaceful.. came accross two deers and i think the dog was more scared.. we both made the climb to the look out spot and GZ. made a few small swaps and had the Beer (thanks, needed that) then declined back home. ended up walking the dog for 7km in total and the Geowife was wondering where we were. a great cache in a beutiful area. recomend the walk from bundeena camp site, not hard, just a little wet underfoot at times, and muddy. Cool Thanks

A cache within a cache?

Whilst doing the Bonnie Vale clean-up I widened the search area a little to include the cache- actually we made a quick dash off (collecting rubbish along the path) and up into the scrub to make the find. A nice spot down at the water. TFTC!

22-Oct-09
Followed some deer tracks, and did some bush bashing across from the Bundeena road to get to this cache, and I even startled some deer on the way.
At the cache I heard some gunshots off to the north, maybe someone was trying for a Bambi skin rug....., glad to get away, and back towards the car.
Pocketed the GPSr and did a dead reckoning track towards the road, and ended up only 30m off from the car!
Thanks for the chance to nab this cache, TNLNSL.

What an amazing place. We loved it here! The lagoon looked stunning on this beautiful warm and sunny day. We also had the place to ourselves apart from the dozens of herons and cormorants lining the edge - they're on a winner here! We couldn't believe the amount of fish we saw.
The walk here was also very enjoyable and great fun watching the hundreds of crabs diving into their holes as we approached. The cache was soon found & we stayed and admired the spot for a while before heading back. As we were signing the logbook there was a loud rustle below and we could hear the sound of an animal lapping up water. It sounded like a dog but was probably a deer?
Thanks Bushy - a great spot! Left GC.

Visited friends in Bundeena and decided to go for a walk over to Maianbar. On the way back we detoured through the mangroves to grab this one. There were a few fishing at the spot but realised the cache was up the track. What track??? A little bush bash and cache was in hand quickly. Great little cache for the fisherman but not having swaps will know next time, when I fish here, what to bring.
Grabbed the Geocoin to move on.
Thanks for this Hide.

We were in Bundeena for a short break and what else do you do to try and get out of the sun for a minute and actually leave the beach??? Geocache of course. So I had convinced the family to join me in the treasure hunt and so we set off. I had the geowife and geokids in tow, yet when we got to the beach the call of more sandcastles was far too strong and so I had to leave them behind and to carry on solo. This turned out to be a really good idea as the story unfolds. So now I was ready for anything and also knew that if required I could do some more enthusiastic searching if this was required. So I left the geofamily at the beach and forged ahead. It was a nice stroll along the beach and then through the campgrounds until I hit the track. One thing that must be mentioned is that most campsites are located in the most stunning surroundings often near or on the beach and the accommodation is a fraction the cost of other varieties. I realise that there are some comforts that have to be forgone yet this may be what you are looking for and a tent by the water may be exactly what you want. Well back to the story….so I was walking along the track which is very nice and remarkably quiet, there was the occasional nod to the passer-by going in the opposite direction. Then the GPS chimed in and thought that it was time to leave the track and head inland a bit. So I left the track and entered the mangroves, it was low tide so it was not too bad to walk through with hundreds of crabs scuttling across the sand and water. The sound that they made was this small rustling and popping from the water nothing to worry about in the sounds of nature, this was not always the case in the cache hunt yet more of that later. So I had to traverse the mangroves trying to avoid stepping on the crabs and also making sure that I did not fall into a large hole filled with sea water. So I managed to make it across unscathed and the area that opened up was quite a site. There was the water on one side and bush on the other that gradually rose higher and higher. One thing that I did notice was that on the beach there was the normal sounds of the water and people having fun, then in the campground this was amplified by the number of children running around and playing, I then moved into the mangroves and the sounds of the crabs were the only thing and finally when I reached the bush section it became very quiet and quite still. So I made my way up into the scrub which in itself was quite impressive with palms sharing the space with eucalypts (see the pic). So I was crashing around and I came to a stop yet the crashing sound kept going. Now I am used to hearing the odd snake slither away and the lizard scamper through the leaves as these are on a small scale. This sound on the other hand was much louder and was making more noise than me. So I looked through the brush and saw where the noise was coming from. It was in fact a dear, so I thought that deer were these petite Bambi like things that would run at the mere sight of a person. I couldn’t have been more wrong this thing was huge and stood the same height as me which is about 6ft, as for being scared this deer simply looked at me in disgust for disturbing it and tossed its head before strolling away. So that was quite an encounter and then to add some more action to the adventure my GPS started to play up on me so I had to get to some open sky to make sure that I was heading in the right direction. I made it to a clearing to hear the deer crashing its way in the opposite direction just to let me know that he was still around. GPS sorted out I went the short bush bash to the cache. Having found it I left some glowing floats, I thought that it would be nice to walk back along the water, this was not a good idea. As I had traversed in such a strange fashion this section of bush was unfamiliar and also there was a reason why I hadn’t gone this way on my trek in. The reason being was that you had two choices, bush bash or get wet. So I struggled on and then decided to try and reclaim an easier path this also was easier said than done and it resulted in even more bush bashing. I finally made it out of the scrub and having to cross a 150m section of reeds near the mangroves. As I had been up and down already I decided that a straight line was the way to go. This seemed fine until in the middle the water got higher and the spider webs got denser not to mention that it seemed like a perfect spot for snakes to live. Making that in less than stylish means I got back to the path and made my way back to the house. When I entered the geokids said “Dad what is all that blood on your legsâ€. In my bush basing in shorts and shoes with no socks I had cut my legs a bit. So a bit tired and elated at my find of the cache and the deer I headed for a well earned rest. TFTC.

We came in from the Bundeena side leaving the car at the day use area before wandering along the path which takes one to Maianbar. The turn off is obvious and we headed in along the track in the general direction of the cache. It was low tide making for an easy and pleasant stroll. The mangrove clad inlet to one side and the low tree filled hill on the other made it a very picturesque wander indeed. The path became a little vague as we came to a pretty little clearing on the river bank where we paused a little while to take a few photos and simply enjoy the place. Thence it was a simple matter of through the very light scrub and up the hill to GZ where the cache duties were soon being carried out. An excellent cache is this - so good to be in the bush after a few urban atrocities. Good fishy swaps in the cache however we did no trades here, though did drop off the Bavaria geocoin. Very good cache!! Thanks bushy2233

There are stories I could tell you about this area but I don’t think the censors would approve.
On the quirky side of ‘believe it or not’ this was the location for the story on fishing with dynamite in the book ''They're a Weird Mobâ€.
We just walked in the old fire trail that starts behind the old incinerator to avoid the mud and if you have time and the tide is changing, check out the Hole (the place with the bridge). It’s great to dive in on one side and let the tide embrace you and hurl you through the narrow gap which is lined with rocks covered with razor sharp oysters. Then the current will drag you into the depths on the other side.
If you have an evil mind you can really scare the daylights out of unsuspecting people by coming up under them in the water and grabbing their foot before sinking back to the depths and exiting via the mangroves.

Tackled this on the way back from visiting Homer ... parked on the Bundeena Rd (little pull in spot, GPS saying about 500m) and went directly to the cache ...why? In transferring data to Palm/GPS, the GPS leaves off the "the" yet it appears on the palm under "the" so I didn't think I had the info in the palm and just followed the arrow. No mud this way either!! Dropped a TB

We took a bit of a wrong path when making our way in and suffered the mud penalty. Then mr bloopy spotted the trail we should have been on and we were on our way - or so we thought - made it around to a lovely little spot and then proceeded to bush bash our way up the hill to the cache. Scratches were par for the course. Mr bloopy came up with the goods, we grabbed a GC, and headed back down. On the way back, mrs bloopy managed to do a most ungraceful dive off a rock that moved and has the bum bruises to prove it. All in all, a nice spot but not our finest hour!

Found this one about 6:30pm, it was very hard to see, which made the whole trip rather difficult. TNLN

It was twilight (6pm) when we set off for this. Fortunately the tide was out but it was pretty muddy in places.
My niece was wearing her Dunlop volleys which aren't recommended kit in these conditions. Saw a deer on the way in. Not sure what they get to eat around here. The last 50m was very slow. We were counting down every metre.

On the way back it was pitch black so we had to rely on the GPS bread crumb trail to find the right path. Even then we lost it in a few places because there are so many dodgy ways to go.

We paused on the footbridge for a while. The water was like a mill pond and reflecting the stars beautifully.

We both thoroughly enjoyed doing this. The terrain rating will put some people off, and I don't think it should be that high, because it's flat almost all the way. Sure you'd need waterproof shoes if the tide was in, but otherwise no problems.

TNLN. Nice spot.

This is great! F.T.F #3 I've been watching this one since it got published, I was sure it would get snapped up yesterday. I checked again this morning and no one had claimed it so I just had to come...
I've been fishing here a handfull of times so I knew the area. The tide was rushing in under the walking bridge and two kayakers were injoying this, the weather was awesome!
GZ is so peacful with the nearby creek flowing and the local bird life swooping down on me.
Left Sinkers and my Geocoin, "Road to Sacramento" which needs to get to Nimbin on the north coast of NSW and then travel to Sacramento.
