We had to resort to a PAF but still had no luck here. Such a shame as it is an old cache.
Find # 13326Solo trip to Creswick to tackle the 50 must see places series and others along the way. Spent 3 and a half hours driving the forest and finding a total of 62 caches.Day started off ok, thankfully the sprinkling of rain from mid day, that lasted to 2:30 kept the heat away. While a bit annoying, it did make for a more interesting and enjoyable time caching the forest.Walked down from the small dam. Then further down the track to cross the creek. Back up the embankment, on the "other" side to the obvious location. Then hunted around a bit. a few fallen trees to navigate over and around. But persistence paid off. Lots of long grass to deal with in the hunt. TFTC batmansteve69.
At first tonight i was going to target On The Rocks but as i was tired i thought this one sounded easier. After a little drive and walk and scramble i came up blank. There has been a recent fuel reduction burn in the area which may be to blame but i is just as likely my tired eyes missed it. Oh well, next time.
Taking a detour while doing the Christmas tree geo-art. Followed the GPS until it was at 0 and I was basically standing on the cache. TFTC.
After going to the letterbox cache nearby Roaming Howie went back to the car and I thought he was keen to go to the Christmas tree trail.. a short while down the road I asked why we didn't go to this one and we just simply missed it! Turn around, back we go.
Glad we did. It was a little adventure in the Georanger down the track. A bit of a scramble down the slope, not quite into the creek bed and then slow climb on the other side... Whilst I was trying to get my balance Roaming Howie was a mountain goat and made the find.
Thanks for keeping this cache active

It’s the 1st of December and the advent calendar has begun. Now that KristysAdventures has joined the camp we sat around solving the Christmas tree geoart while waiting for the rain to clear. Now that it’s dried up we are off to collect the trail.
Stopped in to find this cache as it hadn’t been found for a while. The 4wd track down wasn’t too bad and the climbing and scrambling began. Checked on an obvious spot first but no luck. Explored a little broader and soon had the cache in hand. Happy to have found this one after it had been hiding out in the bush for a while. Cache and log are in good condition.
Thanks Highrod for the cache.

Nice little tricky one to get to but enjoyed the drive and walk through the rough side. TFTC
Wow this was a tough one I decided to just sit and watch from the other side as the other half crossed over. The GPS struggled with this one but it got there in the end. TFTC

A morning out in the bush was need as school holidays, sadly, come to an end. We started close to 11am and were finished around 1pm - with a few detours along the way. This being one of those 'detours'. After reading Ridell's log, I realised where I had to go to find this one. I dropped some 'glow in the dark' @empiregeocaching pathtags in some of the caches along the way. Thanks for the cache batmansteve69 and highrod.

Thank goodness we found it after venturing very close in the outback (not a happy trip for Mrs Riddell who is always happy to walk!)
Was a bit put off by 2 previous blue unhappy faces and and the recently cut tree.
However we decided that our prize was on the other side of the creek and were quickly rewarded.

We had solved the Christmas Down puzzles before we came on our geocaching holiday, so we planned the day around completing this geoart and collecting some of the other nearby caches.
Unfortunately we had no luck with this one.
Unfortunately we had no luck with this one.
The main goal for today was to complete the Christmas Down Under geoart through the Creswick Plantation. We also picked up a number of other caches along the way to slowly increase the find count.
All caches were found and in good condition unless otherwise stated.
There is a newly fallen tree near GZ and we were unsure which side of the creek it was located, our hungry tummies got the better of us and we will have to return another time.

Today, I headed back to Ballarat to attend the CITO event at Union Jack creek tree planting but first I had another mission and the was to find a few more puzzle caches so that I could qualify for the 1000 Unknown cache challenge.
While in the area collecting a Christmas tree I decided to head along this track to try and find this one.
I parked close by and headed towards where the GPSr was indicating I should go, I though that this could be a little tricky as there had been a bit of rain and the ground was wet and slippery but I got to where I needed to be, the cache was found and the log signed, now I had to get back again.
**Thanks to batmansteve69 for placing this cache and to highrod for keeping it going.**

With a stupid o'clock start for a flash mob in Geelong, Ausfox;, Neville_devil and myself headed Ballarat and Creswick way in search of as many Regular size caches as we could find for the day. The things you do for challenge caches [:o].
Ausfox; had already found this one previously and thought we could approach from the north west in my Outlander even though it doesn't have great clearance. We got reasonably close to GZ and did the last 80 or so meters on foot. I t was damp and slippery as we made our way through the gully even though there had been no rain.
The cache was found easy enough once we mad it up the embankment out of the dry creek bed.
Thank you highrod for adopting this one and keeping it going

Find #1780 for me. Found at 3:20 pm while visiting Ballarat from Bendigo. Having failed here back in March it became clear after reading previous logs that I was searching on the wrong side of the gully. Today I decided to re-visit this cache and hopefully turn it into a smile. This time I parked along Codes Forest Road and made the 500m journey down to GZ by foot. Good decision. I'm sure my 2WD Getz wouldn't have made it past the first 50m! Being on the correct side of the gully certainly helped and today I struck success after a short search. I also noticed from the log-book that this one hadn't been found since October last year so very happy to give it some love. All was in good condition at GZ but I replaced the zip-lock bag with a new one as the old one was looking a bit weathered. Thanks to batmansteve69 for placing this cache and thanks to highrod for adopting and maintaining the cache so others can continue finding it!
After venturing in to this rouged little spot and searching in all the likely spots it was disappointing to have to come away empty handed.
Having left the car on top of the hill on Slatey Creek Road to walk up to "Slip Slidin Away", I was on my way back when I came to the fork in the track which gave me 2 choices to get to this one - either walk up the track in front of me heading north or return to the car and drive around to the other side and walk down the track heading south. Since it was only 900m north I chose the first option. Interesting choice since the track had some pretty steep rises and falls as well as some great views between the trees as a reward. Once at GZ I searched and searched for about 50 minutes before finally giving up as I had to get back to Bendigo with the kids who I'd left with my Mum and it was still a long walk up steep slopes to get back to the car. Now as I'm writing this log from home and reading some of the earlier logs further down the page, I see that my GPS had me on the wrong side of the gully so no wonder I failed here today. I'll definitely return here but when I do I'll approach from the north! Thanks for the hunt so far highrod!
In the area tonight, we decided to head to this one if the conditions were conducive. Fortunately, from the direction we came, we drove to within 50m before we made our way to the cache on foot. We found the cache tucked in, nice and dry. It was good to have this one turned into a smiley.
This cache has been on our radar for about 4 years Today we were in the vicinity and the track in looked nice and dry,so we were able to carefully drive fairly close to GZ . A short walk and with good co ords we soon had the cache in hand. Very pleased to have located this one, thanks.
Great cache!!! We were concerned we may not find it but no problem at all
Very slippery when it has just rained in winter
Hahaha...
Thanks for the cache

This was a first look for me but a second for boydclan we spent a good 30mins looking on that slippery slope with no luck
I don't know whether it's the trees, poor eyesight or what, but no luck with dehands on this one - again!
An afternoon free of commitments gave me some time to enjoy some caching, walking & 4wding today.
Took the chance on driving as close to the GZ as possible with an approach from the east and made it right alongside. Took one look at the terrain when i got here and thought i would have my work cut out for me but managed to scramble my way around to the point where my gps had me nice and close to where I should be. And to find the nicely hidden cache after the previous log was a DNF was especially sweet!
I was surprised by the T rating of this cache when i got here but it does conform with the guidelines but be careful just the same. Cache in good condition and nice and dry. Thanks to the CO'S for placing and maintain this cache. A great challenge!

Well, all I can say that this is a damned difficult cache. I am surprised at the 2 1/2 difficulty rating ! I would give the terrain a 3 1/2 or even a 4 !
I spent a total of two hours getting to ground zero. I paid attention to the cache owner's comment re approaching from the north.
Parked the car and walked 500 metres along a track. When I was more or less near I bush bashed for 50 m... only to find a very deep gully between me and GZ.
Not to worry, I walked back to the car and moved to another parking spot.
Walked 500 metres along a different dirt track.... only to find there was a second deep gully between me and GZ!
I managed to scramble across this gully and began to search seriously. Not lucky.
Hence my DNF log.
Greetings from France.

Todays adventures involved visiting the Ballarat region. The trio of myself, Ausfox! and Bentley set off to chase some caches. The weather held off and worked out for a great day! Thanks Ballarat for providing a great series of quality caches, puzzles and DT!
A great cache to tackle in the 4W4 - nice big steep hills, would be pretty full on in the wet! A big of a skip and a jump to get to GZ. Thanks for showing me this part of the bush and the great track.
Thanks highrod for keeping this one alive.

Out and about with my caching mates the suscoe cachers today and North of Ballarat so a few caches in the bush where the White Beast would have arrived at or close to GZ and would have been able to turn around but the falcon is no 4x4 so that made things a little more difficult, a long reverse was performed to perfection and then we were off to the next on our list.
Suscoe headed north of Ballarat to the Creswick area today in the great company of our mate Bushfire.
It was a cool Summer's day with plenty of cloud cover during the morning and as the day went by the sun poked through every now and again. It rained and drizzled early on but even that dried up during the later parts of the day.
We had a terrific time visiting caches and enjoyed the various hides, locations and containers.
This was our 3rd find for the day.
The drizzle was still persisting here.
We drove the falcon down as far as we could, (then reversed it a very long way to get out too!!!!!)
The cache was found nice and dry.
With the log signed we headed off back up the hill to the car.
Thanks to highrod for placing this cache here.

Attempted to drive the VT here from Slip Sliding but chickened out with about 750 metres to go.
Walked in from there and found the cache while AusFox! was doing his balance beam routine.
Thanks for the cache highrod. We enjoyed the walk.

Met up with No Worries to work through his remaining unique D/T's to complete his Matrix.
After completing a nearby cache we thought we'd head towards this one but as we were in a 2WD approaching from the SW we stopped and walked the rest of the way, making our d/t rating a little higher than it should be. not being keen to go any further up the rocky slope. Once at GZ my GPSr had me 7m away so I used the natural bridge to cross the gap until No Worries called out "Found it". Signed and replaced as found.
Thanks for the cache highrod

TFTC. Out grabbing smilies with Clan McStormy and Jaggedwings today and had an awesome fun time getting here and crossing the gully while the GPS bounced around and eventually settled on the exact spot. Great cache, thanks for adopting this one Highrod!

well I parked a bit further up than I needed to and walked in but found a deep dry gorge between me and the track I should have been on. I straddled a log about 3m off the floor of the creek and slid across
A cold wet bum was my reward, dropped down into some scrub and dragged myself to the top of the road. Now I was within searching distance my phone sent me around in 20m circles but a good look around for 20 mins finally paid off.

What an adventure! Today sulkybear and I headed out with our 2 geokids (aged 5 & 3) to find this cache. We took the 4WD track in and came across an echidna which was super cool! Then we bumped up and down the hills til we arrived. We looked and looked and almost gave up until I read some past logs and bingo the cache was in hand. Sulkybear did all the work whilst we supervised. You need to be really careful with little kids here as very steep. Because of this I think the terrain needs to be lifted. Thanks for a great adventure. A fav from us for the road in
We decided to tackle this cache today, We drove as far as we dared then hiked the rest of the way. It took us a while to find the cache we were looking in all the wrong places but persistence payed off when we found it. Thanks for the adventure highrod.A favourite point awarded.
I was on my way home and close to this cache. I had tried quite some time ago and the road was not suitable for my car. This time I drove as close as I could and walked the rest of the way where I spotted something that could make me happy. Getting there was more difficult tough.
Once the log was signed it was a crawl back to the top of the slope and I was on my way.

Wow what a steep and rough piece of track Lucky I was able to hitch a ride with The Tritonz. TFTC a great location.
Phew, what a trek to get to this one. Drove the 2WD along Tambo Road and then stopped at the cliff! Down into the valley rode the six hundred and up the hill. Along the bush track strode the five hundred and over the fence when at the end. Onto another path and round the corner marched the four hundred and down, down into another valley of death walked the three hundred. Back up the mountain scampered the two hundred and we reached the plateau. But no GZ is over the ledge and into an abyss. One hundred stayed behind and we forged into the creek, up the side and we reached GZ. I looked around and all others had fallen and perished. Alas I reached into the crypt and that green grail was retrieved. Logged and returned to its crypt...and now how the hell to get out of here! Another kilometer to backtrack. But that's another story...
Found with emily63 and geokids on our way home from a day at the show. In: matchbox car out: screwdriver.

My favorite cache of the day! A great all-round adventure and that's just getting to the cache! There needs to be more of these adventure caches!!
Thankfully 'Thumpa' the geomobile was fitted with new tyres yesterday and easily navigated the.. small bumps along the way. I especially loved the final approach to GZ.

Bogonghazy and I took the GeoPrado for a run out here today to pick up what we've left behind on previous occassions. The GeoPrado handled these tracks with sheer ease today round here. There was one or two tracks where we got out to survey the drops and ruts and rocks before continuing on, but oh so funny, when we see another track later that would have been sooooo much easier. Still it was good to put the car through it's hoops today, and pick up some smileys as well. Thanks to batmanSteve for the placement of this cache and highrod for the continuing maintenance.
Another chance here for Sully to excel in her driving skills, taking minimal risks and checking the terrain when unsure. Approaching from the South meant a few steep drops, and the driver and Prado just shrugged and smashed it, not literally of course.
Thanks BatmanSteve, and highrod, hardest part was navigating down to the cache itself, and crossing the dry creek bed, but that was my job on foot.

While throngs of people were bustling around crowded shopping centres, struggling with food laden trolleys or searching for the ideal gift; we enjoyed a Cachemas spree around Ballarat with Ian & Penny.
No sarsaparilla flowers about but there were more than enough very friendly prickles hoping to hitch a ride out with us. Satellites had our GZ 9m north east of where we found the cache located.

Found while doing a bit of a tour of the bush. Wasn't game enough to try and drive right up to this one as there was no other vehicles with me and it was quite wet..
I do think that the terrain rating doesn't truly reflect the actual terrain, both navigating to the GZ and in the immediate area around the cache.. It might be okay when it is dry but at this time of year I think it deserves at least 3, possibly even 3.5 as I did end up splitting my pants..
Anyway, thanks for the cache.

Having a bit of fun in the 4X4 travelling roads we haven't been able to until now. Walked the last 150+m as it was pretty mucky & we didn't have anyone with us in case we "bit of more than we could chew". I forgot to change from my runners for hiking boots & found the immediate area around the cache rather slippery- this time of year the difficulty could be a tad higher. TNLNSL
Found while out with MrIwik and 42below for a bit of fun in the 4WD.

We all stopped the 4x4 only 60 meters from the cache and started to chat about who can go and get it. Then like a flash Gordo heads of towards the cache. Does a nice balance over the log like we was walking along a pathway and right to the cache. He made it look easy. We all should out the names to go in the log book from the road way. Certainly an easy find for most of us.

Found it on a 4WD trip through Creswick. This was where the roads got a bit interesting and slippery. G_ordo kindly walked the log to get the log for those of us that were a little bit too unco to get it and we all signed. I reckon G_ordo could make an alternatve career as a stunt man! TFTC
Found it today as part of the 4wding tour of Creswick Park with the Central Victorian Geocaching folks.
Some real 4wding to get here, the track was very very slimey, and tyres were quickly filled up.
G_ordo logged it, and logged it to log it for us less brave souls. And I have video to prove it.

A bit of fun slip, sliding our way to this one! And only one vehicle needed asssistance! And when we arrived to GZ it was G_ordo who had the balance to retrieve the cache on behalf of the group! TFTC
One of a few DNF's during our "Ballarat Smackdown" trip. The trip included teams Quasar3671, Trailrunning, Haveanez, Dazrascal and myself. Caches included around 30 mystery caches, a few earth caches, lots of trads and multis and both day and night caching. Some 4WD action was encountered as well, which was great. All puzzles within 60kms were solved.
I took three of my kids, Jasmine 7yo, James and Jemma 5yo twins, traveling from Tocumwal. The trip covered 3 days and two nights, staying in Ballarat. Quasar3671 took his two boys as did Haveanez. One of the best caching trips I have been on, and certainly lots and lots of finds, almost clearing out the main Ballarat area. Home base was the Miners Retreat motel, which was quite pleasant and quiet.
This DNF was on our Sunday day run, which was only a half day run. Looked, looked, looked, read previous logs, looked, looked. Sure we were looking in the right spot, looked again. No cache. At lest 30 mins spent. Never mind. We had fun getting to this one the hard way from another cache. Thanks for the adventure.

One of 184 cache finds during our "Ballarat Smackdown" weekend of caching on the 23rd to 25th. There were 13 of us including Blacklegend and three of his kids, Trailrunning, Haveanez and their two boys, Dazrascal and myself amd my two boys Tyler and Cooper. We'd spent a few weeks planning the trip, with every Ballarat Puzzle solved in the area, cache lists and road and route maps all ready to go. We stayed in the Miners Retreat Motel for the two nights and the accomodation and facilities were great. Our goal was simple - find as many caches as possible in the time we were here !
We found a great variety of caches and hides during the three days, which also involved a bit of walking and some 4WD fun as well in the state forests north of Ballarat. The weather was quite cold of the Friday and Saturday morning but eventually cleared to nice sunny weather Saturday arvo and Sunday. We all had a great time, especially the kids who did really well to keep up with the pace we were moving.
Our third day of caching and it was another big day ahead of us before splitting up early in the afternoon. With some four wheel driving, some essential caches to collect and getting 'lost' in the bush and some tricky caches found, the day turned out to be quite an adventure. With cars loaded with the gear and kids, we checked out of the accommodation and hit the road.
Haveanez and Dazrascal had left for home so it was Trailrunning, Blacklegand and my group still caching away. We had a lot of fun making our way to GZ from the harder direction of the two. This ended up being one of a few DNF's for the trip. We looked for a good half hour and checked in the hole that other cache say they found it but it wasn't to be today.

We were up to cache 132 at the conclusion of the Saturday of the “Ballarat Cache Smackdown”. Having arrived here on Friday night we had gone hard all weekend. It didn’t stop last night with a few juices being drunk before going to bed. The after effects of this were that we are all a little slow in starting up today. Having packed the cars and checking out of our home base we started our Sunday run with a few caches we missed the night before (the kids really did need to go to bed). The highlight of my morning was straining my left calf muscle running up a 4WD track. That sort of slowed me down for the rest of the day. We had a few must do caches today before splitting up and heading home. This the only DNF for the day. We spent ages here but couldn't find it.
thanks.
thanks.
Drove down the track and parked within 10 metres of the cache. Hunted around a bit with the GPSr swinging direction often. After crossing the gully numerous times about 6 too many, making use of a natural tree bridge, I soon located the cache and signed the log. With no traffic i was able to make a U-turn and proceed back up the track to head off to work. Thanks batmansteve69 for the cache.
Pretty happy to have found this cache, took my mate along for an introduction to the game, couldn't leave without it! We parked down a rough dirt road, walked 900m up then down to ground zero. We looked right in the cache's hiding spot, arguing whether it was a miners shaft or just some sunken earth hole. It's always the way in this game that you look right at the cache spot and then walk off thinking you still need to keep looking Another weird coincidence was that my friend had brought a bottle of Bundaberg Sarsparilla along for a drink, we both had a laugh when we checked the notes later and figured out the cache name.
Crossed the gully a few times for no reason, using the handily placed chunky trees.

Took a bit to get to because of trees down and a vehicle recovery. Came out covered in prickles. TFTC
Went out to get some of these forest caches today.
Found gully, crossed!
Found creek, crossed!
Found mozzies, cross!
Found cache and left TB, not cross anymore
Thanks for the cache.

Returned today to this one after having a DNF last month. Today we were able to locate the well hidden cache within a mater of minutes. Nice area for a hide and we enjoy doing bush caches.
T- TB and Lenyard
L - Lenyard and fish tie.
Thanks batmansteve69 for this great cache

We have been watching this site since June this year, and have been wondering if the cache was still safe in its hidey hole. We were the last to find it (along with Markndee) on 12th June. Thanks for the maintenance trip batmansteve69 and the reassurance that all is well. We hope the TB gets moved along soon.
After three unsuccessful attempts I thought I had better check it out.
After a quick diversion to get around the creek I made my way to the hidey hole and low and behold there it was, still tucked away in it's little spot, carefully hidden by items that naturally occur in the area but may not neccesarily belong in the exact place that they are.
The three of you with painted on eyes need to look a little harder.

Caching with bogonghazy, and no joy on this one today. As per last log, we spent quite a bit of time scouring GZ and the surrounding
area, to no avail.
area, to no avail.
sully1 & I checked all the likely spots we could see around this one, but came up empty-handed.
Thanks anyway batmansteve69 for bringing us here

Spent a good three quarters of an hour searching for this one to no avail. Maybe needs to be checked?
Found at 11:40 with leechie and family - our second for the day.
I did the honours in grabbing this one - glad I survived having not read the mineshaft warning...
Leechie then got to test his 4wd skills by choosing to take the more difficult route out.
Thanks batmansteve69

Cache Number 2 for the day with my parents, the Wife and SW2092, Another good one to find in this area.. Had fun 4WDriving out of this spot due the the previous evenings wet weather.. Cheers
Found at 5.15pm with Markndee and their 6 grandchildren. Replaced the zip lock bag for log book. Spent some time climbing up and down gullies in an effort to find the right gully! Kids had an interesting time choosing which items to take and what to leave for someone else. Finally decided to take the tennis ball. Left: Get Hammered TB. The adults took care to replace cache in its camouflaged hidey place. TFTC.
Found with the six grandchildren and Harrowang late this afternoon, a slip slidey day out that way! We enjoyed the ramble around, one of the Karate Kids learned to recognize a gorse bush! We spotted the spider's web with the large spider in the middle before anyone charged through it! A neat little nook for the treasure...Took the paratrouper and left a crocodile. TFTC
Find # 1205 @ 16:30 and the last of 13 finds for the day.
Drove to within 15 metres of the hide but Ange didn't want me to go down through the ruts as she'd seen more than enough earlier in the day at the "Quarry" cache, and especially so after she watched me assisting a similar vehicle as mine attempt the climb with wife and kiddies aboard. Seems it was his greatest challenge with the 4bee to date and went off very happy with his acheivement. I then headed off to the right side of the creek and soon found the hide and happy with my acheivement. TNLNSL Thanks to batmansteve69 for the cache.

I planned a few caches before the 10 Years! Ballarat Caching event, and I had a little bit of spare time before it started. I thought I might try for another, and this one came up on the radar. I followed Tom Tom along some rough tracks, but decided to stop about 400 metres from the cache and continue on foot.
Which side of the creek? I picked one side, and under the tree cover, the GPS was a bit undecided, so I checked around for a couple of minutes before crossing to the other side. There the cache was quickly found. I went bush back to the car and headed to the event, somewhat later than I had planned.
Thanks for the cache, BatmanSteve69.

Alighting from the Bus from Ballarat, 'The Quiet Plodder' commenced his second Creswick fields Innings with this Cache from 'batmansteve69'. What a ramble this proved to be, some real off track plodding, probably made more 'adventerous' than it need be with my 'could have been easier from another direction' approach from the north-west through 'the scrub' and a Gully or two. For the life of me I initially could not find this Cache and found myself in a place of 'erosion'. What to do? Out came the Binoculars as I sat on a fallen Tree and I did a 360 degree ground scan and to my astonishment a likely 'spot' came to view and after another brief scramble, there it was! I was as much 'relieved' as 'pleased', particularly after so much scrub plodding to get there in the first place. A terrific hide! Thanks to 'batamansteve69' for an enjoyable Cache that made the labour for the find worthwhile. The Forest is quite different (more rugged for sure) in this vicinity than what is further eastwards.TNLCC. TQP
I'd suggest walking into this one, even if you've got the 4x4. A great walk through the bush, and a great destination as well.

A very late log for this one mainly due to misplacing our caching notepad and also a bit of caching burnout! Another Ballarat cache found on the day after the Anzac Day event 2009. TFTC. We did this one with Team Rubik into and enjoyed the drive and then the walk to GZ. I was intrigued by the name of the cache and after some research found out that these were the type of plants that were enjoying leaving the pointing bits in my shoe! Cheers.
With the wind and rain starting to pick up, cdmark and I weren't keen on sticking around too long out in the bush. We made this our final cache before heading back to the city. We entered from the north and found the track pretty easy in Corey's car. Turning was another matter, but we got there. With a bit of team work we got the log found and signed without too much trouble as well. We loved the bush here, great spot.
Many thanks,
