And awesome adventure into this area of blue range.

A ramble around the forest on a beautiful cool, clear day. I walked in from the southern gate to a deserted campground and soon had GZ calculated without issue. A bit more of a walk and I found the cache in the obvious spot in good condition.
Thanks, CT!

# 7757 Found while out scoping a future running event to be held here. Gathered the answers but didn't quite work out for me. Managed to still find it based on the hint.

Not sure it counts but I was walking along near the camp and spotted this cache in the open! Took photo of log as had no pen.
Was a bit annoyed before as hadn’t downloaded any before losing service.

TFTC Great day for caching today, thanks to the CO for placing and maintaining this cache.
Back out again in Sherwood Forest, redistributing the wealth to a more socially acceptable level. Many a cache found, signed and replaced. Some great views to be had, must make sure I get back out here soon.
Took the required details then sat in the sun to work out GZ. Made the find on the return from the adjacent hill. TNLNSL TFTC

Today, I teamed up with AngelG27 for a mini mission in the geounit meandering around in the forest off Blue Range Rd. A great day out with beautiful scenery!
We wandered into this spot and we both remarked what a lovely campground it is. A few groups of campers had made themselves well and truly right at home - one group even had their own cast iron pot belly stove with chimney! lol After an easy set of calcs, an easy stroll, and an easy find we had cache in hand for the signing. Easy!
Thanks for the neat multi, SS & MTBoz!

Cache 6235 on 13 Jun 2020.
Time for a mission! After a week of staring at my computer. It was time to get out and find some caches. SpecimenX had the same idea so we meet at 0800 for a fun filled day or driving and cache hunting. 15 caches found all up - more than I was aiming for. We drove Brindabella and Blue Range roads mostly. It was great to get some dirt, although we were happy to hit bitumen at the end - some of the roads were quite bumpy. A fun day out with lots of laughs!
Cache number thirteen for the day - always good to add another multi to the haul. Enjoyed finding out about the history of the place, another little ACT secret spot. And by the looks, a great little camping spot. Some people had made themselves well and truely at home! Worked out the numbers and strolled in the opposite direction to GZ. Cache found easily.
Thanks Captain Tomato for the cache and the fun!

A quiet Saturday so thought it would be good to head out into the wilderness and out of Canberra suburbs, to do some caching down and off Brindabella Road and out the back of the Cotter in the Brindabella's!
Lot's of driving and sightseeing, and it seems other people had the same idea as we saw quite a few cars parked off almost every track, but luckily no contact to anyone except a ranger who we spotted locking a gate and asked him if we could hike through, which he said "Yes, just no camping with !" He said that hiking out here was not a problem during this time as long as social distancing rules were followed! Lots of unloved caches found today too
This Cache:
Collected the information nearby whilst in the area for a few caches, and had a little bit of a chuckle when we found out where GZ was! Probably could of found this even without coordinates....!
I found the obvious spot to hide the cache! Thanks for adopting and keeping this active CT! Good to see an older multi out here.
Signed the cache DSD and found with my great mate Loci612

Found at 4:19 PM GAFF1 in the company of noikmeister and DogboyOz .
There was some sort of event going on here with a large group setting up camp. We were also looked at as though they knew us
Worked out the co-ords after bit of a calamity to start and then headed over to GZ for a reasonably quick find once we checked the right side [B)]
Such an isolated place for the interns!
Thanks Captain Tomato

Had some of the Amaroo Cubs help with the numbers, which encouraged them to ask about geocaching. The leader is keen to try it out with the troupe, so I'll be taking them out next term.
The container was found quickly (after making sure I was heading up the right direction), though no rock had to be moved to reveal it.

So, after a big morning climbing all over the Wanniassa Hills, what I really needed to do was drop my geodaughter off at scout camp here and then clean out the area. One of them was a climb up a stupidly big hill.... and my legs hurt before I even started... but, I somehow thought this was all a great idea as I am here already.
This was the first one collected... took way longer to get the numbers than it should have as I was convinced that I needed the date the Italians started planting, and of course I didnt. Once I got past my stupidity the cache location was quickly calculated and found. Cache and contents in great condition.

Sunday 15 October 2017 - a superb sunny Spring afternoon with a brilliant blue sky in the mid 20s spending 4 hrs enjoying outback Uriarra. Found 8 from 9 caches (1 multi & 7 trads) including the fun retrieval of 2 Tankengine's weird weir caches that were adventures in themselves. Loved Blue Range Hut and the surrounds including the 1km return steep walk straight up the hill. We forgot the secatures that would have otherwise saved us from the prickles and scratches while searching for the weir caches.
Noticed that **TikvaNZ** was here today finding this cache - good to see that these caches bring people to these beautiful locations. Enjoyed reading the history of this area particularly given that my husband is Italian. Love this place and remembered last being here New Year's Eve party1999 with the family on invitation of our Lander neighbours. Enjoyed finding this multi and then climbing the 1km return trip steep steep hill to find one of the 2 trads nearby. Thx p2p. TFTC Captain Tomato.

After competing in the ACT MTB Orienteering champs, based a the Blue Range Hut, I checked for nearby caches and found two really close, so I just had to get them. The information for this one was soon collected and GZ calculated. A short walk and the cache was quickly fund. TFTC.

Out for an afternoon cache run with Aquilus1.
We had planned to go elsewhere, but with rain coming we thought we would try more drive time than walk times.
Found with the hint really quickly. Meet some scouts and checked out the cabin. Nice place, winter or summer! $50 a night to hire it out. There was a warm fire for us to sit next to while doing the math for the multi. Tftc!!!

Out with dty73 and walked in from the gate with the wet weather looking like it was moving back in. A friendly scouts group were camped today and we were very thankful for their hospitality and welcomed warm fireplace inside to warm up by! Thankfully using the hint we soon had the cache found as the temperature was dropping quickly and soon after finding this cache as we were heading back to the car the snow started! Magical, snowed the whole way home! Thanks for the cache.
On an impromptu drive to do some caching in the area of Cotter and Uriarra with allrounder and Squiggle30, this was the sixth stop on our trek. Gathered the information for this one nice and quickly. What a lovely spot that I had no idea was there so thanks for bringing me that way.
Once at GZ allrounder and Squiggle30 were looking elsewhere when I made the find. I asked allrounder to grab the container as there seemed to be plenty of large spider webs around and I didn't think an ambulance would get to us if I passed out with fear. Lucky enough no spiders in sight, log signed and we were on our way again.

I practiced my ninja warrior skills on the way to & from this one by walking on the fence posts (with a little help from allrounder). I also did some zen positioning/chanting near the cache!

I went out to visit Sherwood and see the spring display of daffodils, in the company of a NT group. Not only did our group visit this site, but it was very popular with others too; people turning up at Sherwood on foot, bicycle and horseback. After our walk, we had a lovely afternoon tea back here at Blue Range Hut. This gave me the opportunity to find this cache (which I had worked out before leaving home) and another local cache. A favourite from me. TFTC Captain Tomato & SecretSquirrel-BJC.
Enjoyable little public math trst with the geokids as we explored the area. Thanks for setting this up to keep everyone interested in the history.
A Canberra Bushwalking Club trip organised to find a few caches around Blue Range area. A 20 kilometre hike with JohnnyBoyACT and one muggle. Found all but one cache. TFTCs.
A Canberra Bushwalking Club caching trip in Uriarra Pine Forest, visiting Two Sticks Hill and Mt Dowling, and a few points in between. Led by Marmaduke Rothschild. I called in today to check the clues for this cache. The old sign has definitely been removed and replaced with a new sign - which interestingly has some different dates . All the calculations for GZ have been re-worked using the information on the new sign.
Initially we could not get any sensible information for E and F but after a rethink I came up with four possibilities. After a bit of trial and error and using the checksum I came up with a valid set of coordinates.
The fresh dirt at E and F seems to indicate that the sign has recently been replaced. The wording may not be as it was originally but with a bit of trial and error it is still possible to figure it out.

It was a magnificent day to get a cache. The place was quite busy though. It was late by the time I got to the sign and had the numbers required. I was surpassed by where it was. I had alternative ideas of where it might be.
I've driven past the turn off many times over the years but never actually been to the hut. Today after wearing myself out at Cotter, I headed up here to have a look.
Information gathered and headed off to find the cache.
A nice area, and some nice forest too. Thanks

Molto Grazie for this perfectly themed cache. This was solved and found while at a scout camp. Accompanied by 15 Majura cub scouts, we solved the "puzzle" and calculated the new coordinates and then it was a bit of a race to GZ, girls walking carrying the GPSr and boys running ahead trying (and failing) to find obvious spots. In the end it was Toby and Geordie who found the cache and returned it to its exact hiding location.
Thanks for the history lesson and the opportunity to show more scouts the fun of geocaching.
Oh and the best name for a cache given the circumstances and theme - a favourite point for that!

Was camping at blue range hut with scouts, for a ceremony on saturday. Whilst waiting for everyone to rock up, i grabbed the information, and shortly after found the cache (..yeah the hint did help, instead of doing the gps accuracy dance)
We stayed at Blue Range hut overnight. Collected the clues, made the calculations and saved the final for a morning walk. A quick stroll up the path (past a very interesting beehive) and we made it to GZ. Read the hint and quickly spotted the hide. Interesting cache, thanks.
Thanks Captain Tomato

I kept meaning to do this when we camp here but only ever thought about it once here, and dang, no reception on phone for the details. Today I grabbed the details and finally completed this cache at such an awesome place. TFTC.

A nice easy single point offset lol met ausiepuskats who had been camping there..
none the less carefully calculated the GZ and a short walk from campsite to GZ and quick find all good thanks for the visit.

My girlfriends and I were having a kid-free and husband-free weekend away at Blue Range hut. I collected the info in between sipping a nice glass of red and niblling on cheese and biccies on the Saturday night.
All those calories needed to be worked off though, so my girlfriends and I set off for a walk on the Sunday morning and they humoured me by letting me hunt for some caches along the way. I think they found it interesting enough that they my loose muggle-status soon and become cachers.
Thanks for the cache Capt T. I would have read the signs at the hut anyway, but it is always good to get a smiley for my efforts too.

Been here before, but never did the cache. Today no one around and an easy find after working out the coordinates..
The biggest micro cache we ever found. Had even room for swaps.
Easy to find. Good fun for the kids doing the calculating. Nice family cache.

1216. 9th of 11 today enjoying a trip with nature and the weather, sun, wind, rain and hall, around Blue Range Road. Arrived at WP 1, not a soul around, and soon had the required info and a GZ location. Jumped in the vehicle and soon arrived at GZ and spotted the hide. TFTC.
I calculated the GZ coordinates for this ages ago and when I took a wrong turn getting back to the camp ground I found myself only 30 metres from GZ. Well here we go then, let's pick it up. One of our party had found it before but couldn't remember which side of the gate, so a quick consult of the hint made up our minds!
Thanks SS-BJC and CT

solved the co-ords pretty quick and strange enoug back towards where we parked to find the cache. Looked around for quite a while with no luck, then the geoson came up with the goods.
Returned back to the hut to have a most enjoyable lunch and some songs on the guitar.

Mosiac1212 and I got the coordinates worked out and learnt the lesson of always double check. Ended up halfway up a hill nearby. Quickly re-calculated and was in the general area. GZ had us well off the mark and the hint was not really helping. Was only through pure luck that we found it. SPOILER: Use the current gate when refering to the clue.
As indicated by Bruce's Run, doesn't hurt to double check the co-ords. Like the caches that encourage you to read the hitory of a locating. Searched hard when we finally got to the cache loc, found by BR after some detective work!
As we were camping not 10m from the first WP this was of course a must do. After reading all the signs about the history around here, GZ was calculated and it was a nice stroll to the cache, which was a straightforward find. Thanks for this little piece of history!
Happy Moderation Day.
ACT teachers had a day of getting together without students and as such I had three stay at homes looking for an activity. My rain gauge showed we had 44mm of rain. Real wet. They were looking at me a little suspiciously when I proposed finding a hut and sitting around a fireplace cooking sausages then finding a cache.
We brought nearly as much gear as would be required camping at the Mega event but enjoyed lots of cups of tea, reading books in a fold out chairs and snacking on those sausages from the open fire.
When I unveiled my master plan - there is a cache nearby - no one was surprised.
We only did the one cache though so next time we have a rainy day we still have some where to go.
I found I didn't have a pen but on the stroll in from the car I found one and dried it out. I left it on the "mantle piece" if any one is looking for one in the future.

Found the coordinates easily enough but what is it with kids. Started walking then had repeated demands for toilet stops. We couldn't make the short walk to the cache without a break. Anyway found it and all was good.
Reperio at 0715. With the day off, I decided to head for the hills for a spot of caching. Arrived at the camp ground with the gate locked, so walked in to the hut. There were a couple of campers around but none of them were up yet. Found the info and quickly went about finding the cache before anyone did wake up. Fascinating information.

So much for the iphone 4 being a competent caching tool. Or maybe its the user who is incompetent.......

Lucky that I managed to find both caches.
A nice piece of history. I wonder if all the Italians came here buy choice?

Ah, another Secret Squirrel cache to add to my list of finds. This was the third of 8 caches and a trig. A birthday day trip heading out towards the Brindbellas with Newberys and his Toyota Landcruiser, TienHua, myself and the geokids. Today I got no birthday cake but the next best thing was birthday cache instead . Have never been to this hut and area before so it was a nice history lesson - especially for my type of work. After a brief talk with the nearby campers and obtaining the clue we were off to get the and do a couple of swaps for the kids. Squeezed in a Fore! geocoin within for the next visitor. Cheers and thanks for the cache!
On a great day trip around the Brindies with my geoson, Rbirtles and his cacheboy, and Tienhua in the 4WD. This was the third of 8 caches found on the trip.
Arriving at the hut found it inhabited with muggles. Quickly found the clues but it must have looked strange to see 3 people programming 3 gizmos after looking at the hut! Drove on to GZ where my geoson made the find. The kids eyes lit up when they saw more of tankengines glass eggs. After suitable swaps and Rbirtles dropping a TB we were off up the road. Nice spot, TFTC!

Out caching with rbirtles, Newberys and their geosons for the day. Ran into some people who were staying at the site. They were very friendly, but probably thought we were a bit strange making calculations with our GPS devices out. A neat little hide, with some fun goodies for the geokids.
I expected to find a coffee shop here
Instead I found a delightfully quiet campground and some historic memorabilia to peruse
It was quiet here because the gates were locked.
Seems the only people who are priviledged enought to use this spot are the trail bike riders, who make a point of wrecking the grassy areas and leaving rubbish of mainly an alcoholic containter type behind [:(!]
Back to enjoying the peace and tranquility of the early morning when I visited
The info on the plaque explained the lack of a coffee shop and with the numbers crunched I wandered off alongside the babbling brook to find GZ
And of course at GZ I find....... a freshly dumped pile of asbestos sheeting from some kind soul who is renovating their kitchen back in town [:(!]
I found the cache safe and sound and enjoyed the aroma wafting from the container.....it wasn't a coffee aroma though
TFTC and wander around on a wet and misty morning [^]

Nice walk to GZ as the roads were blocked off.
Clearly must be lots of hoons up here during the week but we didn't see anyone.
Not to bother is was a nice walk before driving further up the hill.

Hadn't been here before. Very interesting. The fog was just lifting so it was still a bit cold. No campers about.
Used the hint but spent too much at the wrong rock. Off for a little 4wd expedition to the poor cousin. Thanks for bringing me here !

Out with jusojara and decided to do this cache. We got to waypoint 1 and found the information needed. Calculated gz and young so made the find. Kids made a swap and we signed the log and were on our way TFTC
After a very hairy drive down from Mt Coree with mr_roo we stopped in here for the girls to have a hunt.
This is an area I have camped at many times and always enjoy returning. The location is a little bitter sweet now, as the main building survived the fires but the old woodshed didn't - oh well.
After locating the required info and having a chat with the campers we headed off to GZ where So made a quick find. We actually attended GZ twice as the Geokids left their swaps in the car and we needed to go back and get them so they could make their swaps.
Thanks SS for an excuse to return here, and grab a smiley for doing so.

We took our cubs camping on the weekend and it was in this fantastic spot. We couldn't resist showing them how to geocache and some thought it was great fun but wanted to keep the treasure.
One of the cubs was with the Pollywogs team.
We signed the log and left a cub woggle we had made. We took one of the marble eggs.

Geoson claimed this find when on a cub camp, by the time Geomum and dad arrived to collect him and do the cache, he had already signed the log!!
1139 - headed out this way after today's Event to find the two new caches plus an older Multi for me...
Great little Multi out here - what an interesting area and beautiful picnic facilities - be better if you could get the gate opened !
A quick and easy Multi to complete - and a nice container - yours SS-BJC??
TNLN - TFTC !!
Cheers....

What a great little place!
In terms of a multi, this really is tops for me. I learned about some early history of the ACT, found a beautiful tree-sheltered picnic spot and completed a small multi-cache to take me around the area. Thanks Secret Squirrel - this visit was a real pleasure. TNLN, all in good order.

#38 - Nice easy find after working on the calculations. Found it in a minute or two after getting to gz, but got a nasty ant bite in the process! First entry in the log after this cache was refurbished. Nice area. TNLN TFTC.
Brought out a smaller cache and re-located GZ.
Hopefully this will survive here.

Stopped by to grab this one whilst in the area today. At WP1 a tree lopping team were enjoying a BBQ lunch at the location which made it interesting when I walked up to gather the relevant information.
With coordinates calculated, I headed off to the GZ. I spent a considerable amount of time trying to locate the cache and believed I had the right hiding spot but to no avail. A quick phone call to a fellow cacher confirmed that I was in the right spot but the cache was not there. It appears that this one may be gone.

At the cache owner's suggestion I have logged the find as it would have been signed if the cache had been there. Thanks SecretSquirrel.
Knew I would have an early finish today so the plan was to head out and and attempt this one.
Arrived at the locked gates for WP1 and walked the short distance to find the plaques and required information.
Worked out the GZ and set off. Drove towards the intended area and started searching, but something didn't seem right. Looked for a while, but then had to use the phone a friend option. A slight correction to my GPS (co-ords were right, I'm just dyslexic obviously [:o)] [:o)]) and a little further on the cache was found.
All worked out in the end, cache is sitting snuggly in it's spot, out of harms way.
Left TB that was looking for a home in a cache starting with A (double points for this one then) and took the 'cache' from within the cache.
Thanks SS for the cache and confirmation.
Cheers,

I picked up the clues for this one while at the brindy cache event. Mucked up the calc again somehow, but mtbikeroz pointed me in the right direction,THANKS.

Would have to agree with Big Matt, certainly a place that would better utilised if only you could drive to it.
The people with the blackberries only have a nervous twitch - so far, but I'm sure they'll be fine.
Love the positioning of GZ. Thanks

We found this one on a 4WD trip with Odee McPodie, The Rats, cheekyfrogs and a muggle or two. Why oh why is this area locked up? The bikes obviously still ride in here, this area would have so much more use if you could park in here! As the only person with the cache notes I did the calculations while the others found the required info. We headed down to the GZ and found the cache quickly. I have a picture of all of us at the GZ but I won't post it here, I'll send it to the owner.
Thanks SecretSquirrel-BJC for the cache!

Found with The Rats, cheekyfrogs and Big Matt and Shell. Whilst driving through the general area we discovered a family of muggles picking blackberries and totally ignoring the signs saying not to eat them cause they have been poisoned. We kindly informed them of their stupidity, but their friend picked blackberries from here last week and ate them and he isn't dead....yet.
Did this one on the way back from Bendora and the arboretum. Found the answers easily, then did a doubletake thinking I had messed up the maths but it turned out to be an easy grab. Enjoyed the start and finish locations thanks Squirrel. We had been here years ago, but was not aware how much work was invested at this site. T eyeballs (perfect for my Monster cache!) and left Little Miss toy. Thanks for an enjoyable cache.
Stopped by to check my problem child cache and found it exposed. Will definitely need to re-size container a little.

There were a few people camping at the hut. They had no objections to a visitor and I took enough photos to solve this one. Thanks.

Thanks SecretSquirrel-BJC for fixing this one up. It was a disappointment to miss out on my last visit, but all is now well. Went straight to GZ and logged the find (having already picked up the WP's last time.

Back in action
I have a theory why it was muggled in this isolated location. I will persist this time with exact same setup.
Ah it is good to be back in Canberra - even if only for a few days.

Not sure whether my calculations were out, but double and triple checked them to be sure. At GZ I could not find anything resembling a cache. I found what appeared to be the hide (very nice) but no cache. Will have to send message to SS to check if I'm in the right spot. Enjoyed the area at WP1.
718. Haven't been here since the bushfires and actually had my 40th out here as well. It's a pity that the area has been let go as it was a top little picnic/camping spot. (Same as the area up the road that I'm looking at - will you beat me to place there?)
Found the numbers quickly and then off to GZ. A very cute hide indeed.
TFTC and for bringing me back here.

Just finished a few MBO caches in the Brindies, and still had a little energy left (Either I’m getting fitter, or they were easier MBO caches!) so decided to give this one a go – seeing it was on the way! Made a bit a blunder here. Drove all the way to WP1 – opps! Found the answers easily enough, and headed back... a few minutes later – locked gate! Oi – that wasn’t like that 10 minutes ago! Anyways, I ask the friendly scouts that had forgotten to lock the gate earlier, and they organised my escape! Lovely area, although it was nicer before the fires... TNLN, thanks for a great cache SS!
Earlier in the day, found one FTF cache at Booroomba, then TankEngines Tuggeranong WALL, then laid a cache up in the mountains, then coming back down the hill popped in here to find this cache, and who should I find at the hut & reserve - TEALBY! Swapped a few yarns and then went on to find cache, clever hide - musta used a lot of small stones! (I peeked in).
Many years ago, especially during the 1990's, this area was annually used for the Australian Mountain Bike championships, and I rode out here MANY times. In fact, you can still see some of the "jumps" across the road from the grassy reserve. It used to be PACKED with cars going up to 2km almost back to the main road with competitors from all over Australia and the world. I remember watching one womans race one day and one lady one a mtb chasing another up the hill nearby said "&%&%&*^ papadopolous wont let me pass" she blurted out to her coach as she passed the shed. Also remember many mtbikers crashing spectacularly over the jumps.
Also, during the 1980's, friends and I used to come out here for blackberries - they were everywhere and so juicy and big.
And I've ridden out past the hut many times exploring. Once I went past early in the morning and there were hordes of Harley motorcyclists camped there, I kept riding up where they couldn't go, cooeeeee.
Thanks SS for the nostalgic memories.

Having an unexpected day off today, I thought I might be in with a chance for the FTF on this cache. I got all the details ready last night, but when I checked again this morning I found that sw2092 had beat me to the punch by a whole day (or night as the case may be).
That took the pressure off this morning, so I had a liesurely outing, packed some morning tea & enjoyed yet another area I had never visited previously.
As I was wandering around the picnic area I saw another person approach who looked a lot like mtbikeroz but without the mtbike. Contrary to popular belief, he is not wedded absolutely to the bike, so we joined forced to find the cache. Mtbikeroz also gave me some tips on some of his "easy, nearby" caches, so instead of heading home to do some chores I ended up spending another 5 hours caching!

FTF at 19:05. It was only as I got to within about 5km of this cache that I thought 'I wonder if this is available 24/7?'. Uh-oh - one of the cache icons state that it isn't recommended to do at night. And as I started completing the cache, I wondered what obstacle may appear to prevent me from finishing it in the dark. But none did. It would probably be more pleasant during the day as far as the general area goes, but then you would miss out on the twinkling lights of Canberra in the distance as you returned.
Another enjoyable SS-BJC cache of the not-too-puzzling variety (just as I like them). The cache container is awesome - not because it is anything special to look at as such, but because it's as if where it is hidden was purpose built for it. Dunno how SS-BJC achieved that one...

Two warnings:
i) If you plan on doing this one on 13-14 October 2007, make other plans. Signs warn that the caching area will be closed to public access at that time. Also, some access roads leading to the cache area will be shut for most of the morning of 23 September 2007, but I think you will have at least one alternative route.
ii) If you do this one by evening/night, watch out for all the furry animals playing on the road. They are everywhere.
Thanks SS-BJC
