Day 44 of our Enzed adventures with Robmc and today was all about the caves with the 3 of us touring the main cave and the boat ride. Afterwards we had time for a tour around the area including this interesting little town.We did the math and then ventured to GZ although the cache was about 14 metres from our calculated GZ - still a cacher should be able to find it.Thanks for contributing to an amazing holiday.
Day forty four of our epic New Zealand Adventure with The Morris.A day around the caves at Waitomo and the small towns nearby. The Glow worm cave in the morning, and the Otorohanga Kiwi House in the afternoon.(We had to see one before we departed these shores!)A lot of counting for this multi. Nice butterflies though.A nice walk to the final, and a good sized cache. Thanks, Robmc.
Today we visited Otorohanga and solved this multi well - we only made a mistake twice ; ).Thanks for showing the place.MPLC and greetings from us from Germany.
A quick stop on today's drive from Ohakune to Tamahere. Was a bit overwhelmed by such a large flock, but we didn't get in a flap and flew thru this multi, ha ha.Thank you Butterfly_Lady
A nice quick find. I ws seeing spots in front of my eyes by the end!!. Thanks for placing your cache. Ms_KR and I are heading North again to visit family. Today we cruised up to Hamilton.. The day started with showers and heaviy overcast, but got better the further north we got..Occassionally signed MK+KR on cache logs, and apologies for the generic logs. Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches.

#15,000. Good to admire Butterflys friends on Tuhoro Street in Otorohanga. Did some careful counting there. Got some plausible final coordinates and made our way to the final GZ, where it was fortunately all quiet at the time of our visit. Did not find anything where the GPS was pointing. Widened the search and then found it about 19 metres away. The cache was in good condition, all nice and dry inside.Took Holiday Bell Travel BugLeft nothing, signed log.*Thanks for the multi and geocache placement, and for bringing us to these sites, and **.T h a n k s. .f o r. .t h e. .c a c h e.**.M a u r u u r u. .k o e. .n u i. .a t u. .h o k i. .t e. .k e t e r o k i.*---### LET US HAVE A BLOCK PARTY!!! ###On **May 3rd, 2025**, we will be celebrating 25 years of geocaching in **Rotorua, New Zealand** with a special **Block Party** event. We had a look at the butterflies yetsreday but when we went to our calculated coords we didn`t find the cache. As we were not sure if our answers were correct we contacted some of the pre-finders. They confirmed our coords and gave a clue where to search. Before we went to the Waitomo caves we gave it another try and made a short walk. Searching at the right spot we found the cache quickly. Thanks for hiding and maintaining the cache.Happy hunting!TFTCschnuckel1[#24203]
Making our way from Hamilton to New Plymouth today - grabbed a few caches on the way. Although we had managed to solve this offline we did go to starting location to confirm. All good and off to final location. There we were not alone and it seemed the others were going to be a while - so we asked if they knew about geocaching ( as we have done on several occasions) they had and so we had the green light to search. Cache found quickly and following a nice chat we then left the area TFTCTim and Viv - ddm
Great little walkway and last cache for the day. I wasn't nimble enough to try & find the cache. My son helped & thank goodness he was here otherwise I would've come home to a dnf. Lucky it has been hot and the ground is dry. Wouldn't recommend if had been raining. PS. You're gonna probably get dirty. TFTC
I stopped by here on my way to visit family in Hamilton, but visit had to visit this family of butterflies. My calculations had me in a reasonable area, but an unlikely GZ, but as I made my way there I spotted a place that fitted with the hint and had the cache in hand straight away. A re check of my calculations soon revealed my initial error and the co ords are spot on now.I left an alphabet stone - the letter 'C'.Thanks for setting this cool little multi up.
The last cache in Otorohonga for our trip. Loved the butterflies on the wall. A definite place for aButterfly lady cache. We made harder with of the final than we needed to and actually reworked our sums to check before MrB put his hand on the cache!! TFTC
Parked overnight at the NZMCA park and had solved this yesterday while wandering around town. Made a point to head over to the final this morning to complete the find before heading off, TFTC
I often don't make a good job of caches such as this but the instructions seemed straightforward in this case so I didn't think I could come up with different answers. As it turned out there was really only one value that was critical to determining the final location. Once there, I didn't find the hint helpful as it seemed to me that the feature went in a different direction. However, I found what I was after following a short search. I grabbed the Compass Rose Geocoin Micro trackable that I plan to move to a cache in the Wellington region.
Finally had time to revisit, do the figures, and go for a stroll to find this one. Such a lovely little town to visit. TFTC! + TB
I’m pretty sure we worked on this one the last time we were in Otorohanga but didn’t make it to the final placement. Did the first post again today and headed towards the final where we ended up having lunch. I took a photo of a butterfly a few days ago in Ohakune while holidaying down there (photo attached). I believe it’s a yellow admiral, we don’t see these too often in Auckland. TFTC
Very pleased to claim this cache today. Three days ago we were travelling through otorohonga and I took down all the figures for this multi but didn’t have a chance to work out the final. I had some difficulty working out the final but received some help for this and picked it up on our way back home today. I was happy to retrieve this cache but it might be a different story in wet weather. TFTC
We have received a phone call from a friendly person advising the final has been trashed and only pieces located, all spread around. The remnants have been disposed of, and we will pop in a new box next opportunity we have. We are currently locked down in Hamilton, so can’t be sure when this opportunity will arrive.
No luck for us with the calculations - I think some friends have been exposed to the sun for too long, and we were getting nowhere fast.
Checked the final to confirm it is in the correct place, and nothing was amiss.
The last reach for the box does require a little dexterity, but we do not see this as a significantly dangerous cache. Finding and retrieving the box was not too difficult for this supernatant.
In recognition of the concerns raised, we have made a change to the terrain rating, to encourage care when searching.

We note the rather alarmed log from Bunkshyde.
This cache has been in place for over 13 years, with only 2 catchers suggesting it is dangerous (both of these reports in the last 3 visits).
The hide is in a typical “under the footbridge” cache location, and has a terrain rating of 1.5 to reflect this. The most likely outcome of a slip would be wet feet.
We will take the next opportunity we have to check and make sure someone has not returned it to an incorrect spot (which is always possible) and will drop a note to the last finder for clarification, but at this stage we don’t see a need for an immediate change.

Thanks Butterfly_Lady for the cache. It’s #1417 for us. We found your cache on 18 February 2021. Found after reading older logs.
This location is positively dangerous and CO should seriously consider moving it somewhere close by. I’m going to log a Needs Maintenance to attract CO’s attention and hopefully action

Butterfly_Lady, your geocache Butterfly's Friends (King Country) (GC16FM1) needs urgent maintenance. We visited it on 18 February 2021 and In my opinion this location is positively dangerous and CO should seriously consider moving it somewhere close by. Great cache to solve and find but Geocaching rules prohibit dangerous placements like this.
Cheers Bunkshyde

Had trouble with the gps coordinates and started looking at the wrong hint object. Got there in the end.
Found all the values and made my way to GZ. Unfortunately access under turned out to be too dangerous so tried but had to give up..
A quick check of the final while passing through Otorahanga. All present and correct, dry and in the right place.
Been at this one for 3 months now. Pretty sure I’m in the right place. I’ll be back for another go next time
A bit of quick maths and off to find the cache. Love the butterflies and what a brilliant way to acknowledge the sponsors. TFTC
Pink/orange combo missing and could not work out colour replacement. Gave up after a good hour. Will try next time we are passing by.
We have gone down to Alert 3 in our Covid-19 lockdown, and Geocaching is now allowed, so time to re-enable the caches.
DISABLING THIS CACHE TO DISCOURAGE HUNTING DURING THE COVID-19 LOCK-DOWN. NEW LOGS AFTER TODAY MAY BE DELETED. THE CACHE WILL BE BACK AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
traveling with watcache to he scout jamboree in Hamilton while also getting a few caches along the way, never been in this area before thank you for putting a cache here. nice multi
Found with xsaveya after gathering the required info off the wall (very cool idea).
we ventured out after tea for this one very quiet at gz.
thanks for the multi and the smiley

Passing through the big "O " today liked the sound of this cache..stopped and did all the preliminaries ..loaded the GPS all looked good so off we set..enjoyed the neat short walk to retrieve the cache ..all good here thanks Butterfly lady.great multi
Well that was an interesting little exercise! You have some colorful friends butterfly_lady! With one missing I was a little unsure if we had the correct info, but it may not have mattered too much. At gz were found ourselves in another lively spot. A peek from one end revealed the cache. Thanks for the cool multi butterfly_lady
We had fun at this one. Was a great game. But I didn’t like the game where I was sent to look for trolls and retrieve the cache! Of course I came up trumps and no trolls we’re in sight. TFTC.
The kids enjoyed this one. On our way to the Kiwi house for a visit and thought we’d come see some butterflies first. One of the butterflies was missing but it didn’t mess with our final coords and we soon spotted it in it’s spot. No trolls today. And no muggles either. TFTC
Calculating the coordinates for GZ was easy - the challenge was grabbing, logging and re-hiding the cache in between muggles passing by. Just managed to do so. TFTC!
Great little cache. My calc co-ords were a bit out and needed to read logs to understand the Terrain was out also. Luckily not too busy today. TFTC
I couldn't get the calculations to work out on this hide but there was only one place this location could be so I went for a walk to try my luck. Spotted the cache tucked away deep and alao a handy tool nearby to use for its retrieval. Log signed and cache replaced.
Solved the puzzle some time ago, then had to wait for the opportunity to visit the town to follow it through. Great Kiwiana! Nice spot for the GZ, and another cache too. Enjoyed the walk round the lake, a welcome break in our journey. TFTC
Had time for a couple of caches after staying the night in this nice town. Enjoyed the kiwi house also. Cache is doing well. Opinion: the terrain rating for the final could go up a bit. TFTC
Out caching around the King Country and up into Hamilton for a bit today and hoping to push through to find #3000. I do like a nice multi especially when they are not too hard like this one and take you to a nice area.
We got to WP1 with Bennett24 and all the calculations worked perfectly and easily and we very quickly had a set of likely looking coordinates. Since we're zooming around anyway we did it the easy way and drove over to close to the determined final and walked down. Very nice spot here pleased to have the chance to visit.
Got to the obvious spot and no need for a hint here and retrieved in next to no time. Cache all good here and no trouble signing in replacing the nice sized cache. Thanks for the cache - find #2,999.

After spending the day around Waitomo we drove back home with Tuolei to grab a few extra caches so he could get to 3000. This was the first along the way, a nice little multi that enabled a team effort to solve. We looked at walking to the final but found the way was blocked so resorted to driving around.
Was a quick find at GZ of the nice sized cache in the obvious spot, all good here. TFTC.

staying nearby tonight so finally had time to solve this puzzle and walk to final. No butterfly seen around today except for a lovely butterfly cushion in the window of a nearby shop.. nice puzzle tftc
Thanks last cache for me managed to find them all today walking around even though I am now very wet.
3151 I stopped in Oto for some lunch today on my way back home. Decided I could tackle this multi so did the count and then went to a nearby cafe to do the calculations. Came up with coordinates that would take me to an area that I thought was where I would have ended up at. Once sated I headed off to GZ. Nicely little walk. Cache quickly located and signed in peace. Thanks for the placement. TB taken.
Love the butterflies. We had seen them when we first came into town and thought they were cool. And even better I find that are part of a multi. Cache is full with all sorts of goodies. Nice to see. Left a tb here. Tftc
Out visiting the kiwi house, decided to cache as well. Nice simple puzzle and beautiful location. Tftc
Having got the walk way in town after lunch, we dropped by the start of this cache to do some counting and quickly had co-ords, headed over and got the other nearby one and then reached GZ. Lycurgon quickly had cache in hand. Found with Anastriel & DcReaver, TFTC
A neat multicache, nicelt done. Didn't take long to find once we got to GZ. TFTC.
We were very lucky today. First we saw Tasman, the big spotted kiwi, as she busied herself just behind the glass, only 50cm away from us. At feeding time we got to see a brown kiwi who came out of its burrow when all the other people in our group of visitors had gone away.
After our visit to the kiwi house we found some caches in Otorohanga. Nice short multi (we don't like long ones). Quite a few dog walkers at the final location, but we managed to get the box from the trolls without attracting attention. TFTC !

I was drawn to more caching nectar here !!
And at me first stop ... lotsa flutterbys [:o)]
The hard part was actually counting them all ...
... stay still you buggers !!
It was much easier counting the colours
Before I knew it I had a set of coords to flutter off to,
and find a cache
Which I did in true troll style [^]

This was a cute little multi and EIR-0T had fun solving it ....had a few strange looks while we were gathering the intel, and then plugged it into the GPS and headed to GZ.... a quick find here luckily as a few people were in the area.

We came down from Whangamata to a meeting so stayed two nights at the motor camp and had time to solve the list and find it on the second day, this was a favorite for us TFTC
Well this Multicache was a real Mission, not Impossible, but definitely Difficult. I first looked at it about a year ago but realised my colour blindness would slow down my solve. Three weeks ago my girlfriend KrystalKath assisted with the solve, but we lacked the time with other commitments to complete the find.
But that was fortunate as this weekend is the next instalment of the Mission Impossible challenge which is to find a Multicache. And so I've completed the challenge on the way to meeting up with KrystalKath in Rotorua (with her engagement ring). So a double Mission accomplished!
I picked up the TB that's been languishing here since January to drop in Rotorua if I find another similar sized cache. Thank you for the puzzle & TFTC.

Nahkins and I were out for the day geocaching on our way to visit our parents grave at Te Kuiti. This was #7 for me. This was the last of the Otorohanga caches to find. Went around to the big pukeho. He was looking splendid. Off on our little jaunt following GPS and arrived where the troll lives. Nahkins was here a couple of weeks earlier but it was too dark to look. So she got down to the task in hand and soon had the cache in hand. SL. Having a successful day so far.
NZPatoto & I concentrated on the Otorohanga and Te Kuiti area. It was a big day today as we headed down to Te Kuiti cemetery to visit our Mum and Dad’s grave for Mother’s Day, so an early start to compete our list.
This was 3 of 10 for today. I had also previously tried to find this one however after work in wearing slip on shoes is not advise. Today I made short work of finding it. Have to say there are some lazy people out there, could even put their rubbish in the bin, managed to leave it right beside it though. Done my good deed for the day and deposited rubbish in bin. TFTC
Sorry no sign of butterflys

Took photos at WP1 & deciphered the info a few days later. Got the final GZ coords and as we were back in the area today, stopped in to make a nice quick find. Nobody around in this nice location. TFTC
Had to get hands dirty to find it but found it! Great cache, a lot of fun for the girls and cache has some nice swaps. Dropped off a travel bug.
My son had a cricket game in the area so we decided to do some caches while we were here. My son enjoyed the butterflies and also the nice little walk around the lake for the final. This is such a nice little spot that we haven't been to before. Nice easy find. TFTC.
Well, did not actually attempt final because there muggles looking right at gz ... if my counting & calculations were correct? Will try another time. .
I had solved this over a year ago but hadnt been in the area to grab it, went by with Alpenmilch80 today and hadnt realised the formation had changed and therefore so would the answer, but the hint put us straight to the cache so it was all good.

After surviving the Legend of the Welsh Whaler we made our way close to the final as thanks to yorkshirekiwi83 the first part of the multi was already deciphered. The coordinates took us very close but with the helpful hint the geocache was found quickly and signed. TFTC
After a few reports of the final waypoint being a few metres off, we called past today, and found the population of Butterfly's Friends has changed! While the number is the same (it last increased in 2009), it seems some have flown away (escaping from the vandals), and when replaced, had (unlike the leopard), managed to change their spots!
The count was carried out again, and a new formula entered into the page. If your maths are right you should end up right on the spot again.

We first visited the mac to have some extra energy for this cache.
A perfect cache for this cache owner. Butterflies
At first we couldn't believe that we did made the right calculation, on the other spot it was a beautiful spot to see maybe some of these beautiful creatures.
Al tough my GPS was 20mtr out, my hubby let his geo-sense work and came up with the cache. Jippie, calculations were ok indeed.

A good excuse for a stroll around town. As others have found, the final was some 20m away from the indicated spot, but a cast around and a grovel soon had the cache in hand.
Back in Otorohaunga for a climbing competition so revisited this cache. I solved it last time and had misinterpreted where it might be but this time trusted the gps to lead us to a beautiful spot. concerning all the dead birds knowing at the other park there has been poison laid. Widened our search and came up trumps. TFTC
Out with Tara Ted and a chance to tidy up Otorohanga fun cache to do and chance to pop to the pub for lunch TFTC

Worked out the puzzle with Juty Bug, had a bite to eat at a nearby café/bar then drove to the final waypoint. tftc
Another year, another expedition... With Gap (of Fap and Gap). Our journey took us into the rugged King Country in search of old caches and anything to fill in Challenge Cache requirements.
We discovered the butterflies and Gap did a great job of counting them in the dark. The streets were deserted, so we were under no pressure to be stealthy... We calculated the final and made a projection. We left off to make a find on another nearby cache before driving to the final.
It was difficult to find a path to the cache in the dark. We came close to a fenceline and a voice beyond asked if we were alright... That was awkward. We found the cache after widening our search. We were about 17 metres out... Not bad for a night find. TFTC.

Out with Squirrel Nutcase to claim a few caches plus some further steps in our Licence Challenge. Left home at 6.45am and got home 1.15am Sunday, boy did we travel some miles.
10.20pm - Muggles in bar accross the road, wwere wondering what we were doing looking at butterflies. Cracked answer and found cahe without hint (perhaps a few metres out). SLTFTC

I was off for the long weekend picking up caches from Otorohanga to Taumarunui to Straford and back home if the weather held.
I really had to widen my search here as the numbers I got placed me one of those horrible flax bushes. I found it 21m away. I might have miscalculated.
Cheers for the cache.

We must have been out a little on our calculations as we were searcing in the wrong place for wee while until we decided to extend the area to a more likely looking spot.
Cache a little damp but otherwise all good.

Managed to solve this one fairly easy and make my way to the GZ... Found the cache where I expected it would be an signed the log... Thanks for a well thought out cache
It took us a while but we found it! But a good adventure! We are new at this.......need to learn more about co-ordinates I think!
Aftere we were annoyed because of the missing hint, we found it very fast in a dry place. The coordinates were okay. TFTC!
Once we had our coords correct it took us on a good walk thank you Butterfly_lady for this neat cache.
This was our last day in NZ, and we stayed overnight in Otorohanga. I got up early in the morning to complete this multi, after getting the required information the night before over dinner.
So, I took a short walk from the caravan park, and made a quick find. I also grabbed the TB from the cache.
Thanks for the fun multi Butterfly_lady!

No trouble getting the info, but took a while to find. Search for about 10 mins, before reading some of the other logs, and then realised what I needed to do. Cache was found about 20m from where the GPS was leading me. Left TB.
Took 1 got to take some photos as I was in a bit of a rush, 2nd go to find the cache after doing an alost complete circuit and assuming it was hidden at another feature of location only to realise it was somewhere way back near to where I started
Gathered the required data and solved the final location the night before. It turns out GZ was very close to where I was staying! So I wandered out after getting up to have a look. Couldn't find anything at GZ so expanded my search area and quickly realised the obvious spot to search. Sure enough the cache was found! Thanks!
