Today we are at St Marys exploring the area via geocaching. After a punishing uphill at ST Patricks this was an easy walk.We spent a good hour searching for this cache, my opinion is that it went when the concrete was poured for the new radio tower which is right at GZ.As seems to be the Tassie way given this one is a golden oldie with CO no longer in play we replaced this cache a la HC.Its now a small vitamin container covered by rocks as per hint. Find the long length of wood and it is nearby. Spoiler photo attached.TFTC and great walk. Wish I had a sister
As my wife and I travel the state with the plan to visit every locality in Tasmania, I get the chance to snare the odd geocache. This cache was hunted, tagged and released by activehunters tftc
Lovely day to be up here. 30 minutes of searching didnt reveal the cache to me, but it was still worth coming up.
Thanks for the cache Allankay.
Spending a weekend on the east coast with RLD4963 and the two GeoGSP's.
This was definitely our adventure for the day - only a short walk, but pretty steep. Add in the fact that there was still frost on some of the rocks, we had to pick our path carefully.
However, I had seen photos from the top, and given that it was clear blue skies, we were keen.
We reached the top a little out of breath and began the search. There are a lot of possibilities given the hint. However, after a bit of a search the cache was revealed, all in good condition.
It appears a new lookout is being built nearby - the cache is currently located about half way between the old wooden lookout and the new lookout. Hopefully the cache stays safe.
A favourite from me for bringing us here - fabulous views.

Out and about with the Rafa family caching.TFTC TNLN log dry. After the awesome drive up to the power supply for the antennas and a bit of a walk up probley hundred and fifty meters rocky and very steep stairs, it was good just to search for the cache and Lil Rafa was the first to find the cache while I held the dogs. Then we went to a viewing station where the gca map told us that a trig and trad cache was near by, so searching for the trad cache many positions were searched to no avail, so the thinking is that the new cable tray was in position and the installers might have taken the GCA cache, will have to keep an eye out for this GCA cache.
It was the start of my last week of my Tassie road trip, so it was time to head South to explore some more of this beautiful place.
I have been seeking D or T3 ratings for a challenge so this one showed up on my radar. on my topo and GPS map a road went by the side of the mountain, but when I couldn't see a way up I decided to move on, only to pass a sign for a road that wasn't on either of my maps!
I got to finally try out my 4WD skills going up there! I truely wonder what the tele-engineers were thinking when they constructed all the pipe and conduits supporting the towers. It looks like a lot of patchwork was done up there! But what a view!
Thanks for the cache.

A fantastic location with awesome views and an enjoyable drive to the parking area too. It was a very warm day today but we can imagine it must be bitterly cold up here much of the time. Found the cache nice & easily. TFTC!

Staying in Scamander for three nights, so today being the most promising weatherwise, we did a circuit route via Upper Scamander Rd and over to the German Town area and up to South Sister. Four on board for the 4x4 trip to the top. It took a bit of roving around to find the box of goodies ........ all in pretty good nick, and the log book is okay. Apart from ticking off this bit of a walk it was great to find a geocache as well. Thanyou Allankay for this good one. Take a favourite for your efforts.
Loved this cache. The track up was fun and we were glad of the high clearance for the last few hundred metres. The walk to the lookout was steep but a relatively easy walk.
It took a while to find the cache as there were so many possible hiding spots but the size of it narrowed the search a bit

Took my motorhome [7m Nissan Civilian bus] up the forest road and parked at a logging road intersection when the road became a bit dicey. Walked from then on and thankful that I did. I could have driven further but I would not have reached the only other turning point. A well worthwhile hike to this cache which took a bit of scrambling but wasn't too difficult. Great views. Pity about the ugly infrastructure but I guess the track would not be there without it.
Unexpectedly found myself in the general area and thankfully checked if there were any nearby geocaches - yes there are. Drove most of the way to the top in a 2wd low clearance vehicle, pulled up around 50m short due to minor washout and exposed large rocks. Then commenced me foot slog up to the lookout. As detailed by another, the track is closed at the top, however, the cache is off to the left of the closure and readily accessible. At gz, put the GPSr back in me pocket and commenced searching likely spots befitting of the hint. Soon located a large well stocked cache. Log duly signed, took a few moments to soak in the crisp morning air and glorious views. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience and well worthy of a favourite point in my humble opinion.. thanks..!!
We were in the area bagging a number of peaks with our bushwalking club. This was the easiest of the lot of course as there is a road to the top. Contrary to the Needs Maintenance log the track to the cache is not closed. The sign is still there but that part of the track is not the way to the cache. Go west young man and lady. Cache is in good condition and there are great views from GZ.
Extremely peeved to make it all the way to the top and find that the last bit of the track has been closed. Spectacular views from where I could get to though! Definitely wouldn't have found if not for geocaching, so still worth it!
Bit of a hike, and 4wd needed at the top. Well worth the trip for the view alone
This it's nearby trig and GCA cache were the last caches of the day for myself Goose and the Toolman, we had not long stopped at St Marys and had started to head home when the peanut in the back piped up 'Hold on there is a cache just North of us'
A quick stop at the side of the road and an examining of the map showed he was in fact correct with the caches being 5kms North of us, so we heading up Top Marshes Road (S41 34.709 E148 10.237) and then along Germantown Road (S41 33.916 E148 10.817) until we turned left onto the track to South Sister (S41 32.483 E148 11.229). The roads to the track were good dirt roads and we made good time but we had to slow down a bit when we got on the track, the last few meters to the car park were the worst and we were glad to be in 4WD but we made it ok.
It was a short walk to the top and we wanted to find the cache before we lost the light, with so many places for a cache to be hidden it took us a short while to find the cache, toolman came up with the goods and we were surprised to see a good sized cache tucked away in it's little spot.
We were very pleased with ourselves let me tell you, after spending ages searching for the GCA nearby we dashed off to the trig point on the other high point, we wanted to get this fast as it was starting to get dark now, we found it within moments of getting to GZ and now it was just to task of getting down to the car again.
An uneventful trip back to the car before long we were back on the black stuff.
The views were stunning and the sunset amazing, this is a must do cache rich area well worth coming to worth a favourite point for sure.

Unlike 1toolman I can control my bladder but there were a few hairy moments up here! It was a very last minute decision to come up here as we were all pretty tired, but I'm so pleased we did. With three smileys to be found (as well as the ones on our faces) we had a blast. This was the first of the tree we found and took some photos as we perched right on the edge of the world.
After taking ages to find the GCA cache followed by the trig there was very little daylight left as we started our decent just before 8pm.
Thanks Allankay, it may have been your only hide but you picked a bloody good spot for it.

OH WOW WOW WOW ! I nearly wet my pants up this track and hilltop, the views are stunning, the rocks MASSIVE and the fresh crisp air was THE BEST !
We had a blast finding this along with a trig and a GCA cache. Sketchy areas everywhere which was fun.
With GOOSE AND SSRAT having a BLAST !
VERY COOL
Fav point Coming your way !

I headed down the coast to Bicheno today to collect a few caches
I collected a couple along the way,
and arrived in towne for some shopping
And the heavens opened up !! [:o]
Well the caching day was a complete washout !! [:o]
The storms and heavy rain did not look like they were going to let up any time soon !!
So I headed off to St Marys to seek refuge
But a funny thing happened on arrival in St Marys,
the weather looked like it was clearing,
so off up the hill I headed to find me a campsite for the night
And headed for a relatively high spot in the terrain,
I discovered that you can actually drive almost to the top of sister number two !!
I was expecting a long stroll in the rain
At the 'parking lot',
I headed off in the sunshine that had appeared
Bit blowy though [:o]
So off up the slippery steps I wandered.
And reached the top where a spot out of the wind was found
Great views,
and a lot of noise as the towers played their tunes in the howling gale
So under the camera's gaze,
I headed on up the rocks to look for a cache
I t took me 'bout 20 minutes to find the right spot,
but once spotted,
it was the spot !!
I popped back out on the path again,
and looked west.
Uh oh !!
Rain's a comin' Pa !! [:o]
I bolted back down the hill to the geomobile,
and arrived just in time to avoid a soaking
TFTC !!
A must do if you ask me [^]
Though you should probably pick a better day than I did
Nah !!

Once I found the turn off, I managed to drive my 2WD about three quarters of the way up the track before walking the final few hundred meters, a quick search and the cache was found. There was a large hum tree. Cross the road near the top when I came up here. Fantastic views and well worth the effort. TFTC!
As we drove up to the parking area we were surprised about the road conditions. The small magazin from the information center didn't tell us. But with 4wd it was not a problem. The next surprise was the sign for authorised person only but we thought - it's all relative... We climbed up and had an amazing view. We have found the cache quickly and after that we just enjoyed. Thank you for showing. Tftc
I almost gave up! But glad I didn't! Thanks for the awesome find and for taking me to some great views!
i didn't even have this cache on my gps. luckily i had a glimpse on my phone just before i started walking up, so i knew it was there. it was quite a climb, but well worth it. amazing views. TFTC!

Another one of the truly magical but freezing cold place in Tassie! After some confusion as where to park, I donned as many warm things I could find (including my ski jacket) to brave the gales! But we were handsomely rewarded with such a magical vista. A sift through the contents of the cache was accompanied by a truly spectacular sunset! TFTC!!!!
What a glorious climb TNLN TFTC. Wonderful view out to the ocean. The tree can now be got around but the road up beyond it has been eroded somewhat in the bad weather. 2wds should take care.
We were heading east and this one looked interesting and we liked the DT combo. After working out which track to take we where closing in on the parking spot only to be stopped by a fallen tree so had about half a km to walk in and up. We saw the official looking sihns others had mentioned And assumed it was aimed at keeping us out of the various telco areas so up we went. The hand rail was so cold our hand just about stuck to it and the stone stairs slippery. A little further up we came across light snow on the path. Great views in all directions from up top. We left the path to search for the cache and after a litle but of a scramble and look around we saw the tell tale signs of a hide. Nice to see a good sized container. We completed the signing duties and re hid. TFTC TN LN

We arrived at the end of the road & then had a bit of a "should we / shouldn't we" moment. Not over the 180m we had to walk (& not all of that was vertical) but the, um, rather official looking & sternly worded sign at the start of the track. But we figured that 1. cache reviewers don't allow caches to be placed in inaccessible areas; 2. that series of equally official signs we'd followed to the 'lookout' in "friendly tourist blue" (& there certainly wasn't much of a view from the car) must mean something; and 3. our desire to grab a 3/4 cache with great views & multi fav points - all over-ruled any length of officious & probably very very old red tape so we ventured forth. And we are so glad we did - a "tourist friendly" track led to gob smacking views, interesting rock formations & a challenging find. In fact, the "non-camo" placcy bag wrapping flapping in the breeze was how we found the treasure - and what a treasure! Though we TNLN, all was hunky dory at cache central. T (heaps) FTC! We recommend future treasure hunters also avert their eyes at certain "signage".
Hey litlle walk with a friend !
Very nice view here, thanks for the cache.

Hi Allankay
After finding the nearby cache and on my way out, I checked the GPS and this cache revealed itself. Turned around and went back, but not very far and commenced looking - took a while but found this large well stocked cache at 1119hrs. Great hide - thanks for the challenge.
Love the views up here.
TFTC and cheers

Had left Mum and sister in the car, but spent a good while looking unsuccessfully for the other cache, so thought I'd better get back to them...so turned my attention to this one, and at 10 metres off the track, in that terrain, I didn't really have the time to look for it. So after about 2 half-hearted steps in a bit off the track, gave up and went and had a look at the other viewpoint - those views were amazing, and back to Mum and my sister. Thanks anyway.
Splendid views for a relatively short but steep walk. A bright, sunny day and 360 degree panoramas. Today wasn't particularly windy but had to hang onto the cache and it's many nice swaps while we signed the log. I reckon you'd need a harness at the top on a really windy day.
Thanks Allankay siblings....what a great reason to hide a cache. [^]

We nearly did not do this one but were encouraged after reading previous logs. The scenery was wonderful and the landcruiser did make it an easy way to get to the top. A short walk up the barely discernable path had us enjoying the rock formations and awesome view. This one deserves a favourite point. Thanks Allankay
We had a very pleasant and successful morning caching in the St Helens area. Given that we had achieved much more in the morning than we had anticipated, we had some time to look for some less accessible caches. This was one of two caches in the area. It took us a little while to locate the correct road (missed the small sign first time) but once we did, we were able to drive within about 300m of GZ. A short walk along the remainder of the stony road and then a climb up the steps left us a little out of breath but we were rewarded with the wonderful views. We quickly found the general area of GZ but with so many possible hiding places, it took us a little time before the cache was located. The cache is in very good condition. TFTC Allankay and for giving us the incentive to visit this area.
We picked a very nice day to find this cache, took a while to find but Mr T can take credit for it. The views were amazing and worth the climb. TFTC
We didn't make it all the way up the road in the 2WD but pulled over to the side and walked the last bit before the steeper part of the climb. The amazing views were appreciated as we searched for the cache. It took a while before we found it but it was well worth the walk. TFTC.
One of two in the area, plus spectacular views, but rather cold late in the day. Well worth the walk. Thanks for bring us here.
Nice way to start a Saturday morning...with a good climb and a cache or two. Great views, really enjoyed this one. Quick find, took shell and left CD and sunglasses in a case. TFTC
Absolutely loved this cache .....even if it did take me forever to find it
The drive in was fun (I am certain my next occupation should be pro rally car driver) and then the walk up to GZ was fun also (maybe I belong in a monkey enclosure the way I hurled myself off those railings) [:o)] then at the top the views were spectacular and left me speechless (well there was noone to talk to so that maybe also why)
This cache is a 'MUST DO' and if you can fluke awesome weather like I did today then its one you wont forget! I sure wont
Thanks Allankay

Thought I had found a huge bag of rubbish but it was the cache in a couple of layers of plastic bags. Well hidden and took a bit of finding with the crappy GPS in my phone that just puts you in the ball park area.
A cannot understand why no one has found this since Sirius in Oct 2008 and only 1 DNF since then. Co-ords and description good and cache large. A top spot and great views with another cache only 30m away. Who could ask for more. TNLN Thanks
Think perhaps not there. Looked for some time. Not logged for some time. Worth the walk though.
Second visit here which seemed a lot shorter to the top this time around. Cache took some finding... as was well hidden..especially for a 3ltr container. There is a long drop near GZ so need to be careful...though cache is a few metres back.View totally closed in by cloud.Still a nice spot.TNLNSL

Ha! SNP's reign over FTF has come to an end.
Where were they? Nowhere to be see.
Found after a little while - the GPSr wanted me to go over the edge - it is a long way down. Also was taking pictures and video of an eagle gliding around the top of the Sister.
Took pen and keyring, left 2 new batteries.
Thanks Allankay.
