While out and about searching for caches with biggles1024, this one was found.
We were close by to this one so off we went on an interesting walk.
We noticed the big holes beside the track but didn't realise what they were until we read the cache page, it all made sense then.
We arrived at the GZ area, looked around then checked the hint and looked around some more, eventually we found what we were looking for but it wasn't real obvious.
The log was signed and the cache was replaced, we then headed back up the track to the car.
**Thanks to Alansee for placing this cache.**

**Find #2711**
**Traditional Cache Find #1904**
I headed out with Steve today with some specific goals in mind. The weather was perfect and we got plenty of exercise. The cache name lead us to expect a particular placement but our assumption was wrong. The cache name became clear when we stopped and read the cache page. [:o)] Coords were a bit out but that is to be expected when under tall timber. Log was little damp but still easily signable.

I have also received this log as of today -
"Anyway original log is damp, which is surprising considering what the cache container is however a previous cacher has thoughtfully added a new log inside two ziploc plastic bags."
Under the circumstances I will wait to see the next developments.

Log book is quite damp although for the moment it is still usable. I'm wondering if a previous cacher didn't screw the lid tight enough so water has seeped in because considering the type of container it is no water should normally penetrate. Maybe some Vaseline around the thread would help keep water out if the lid isn't put back on tight enough!
Located this one after a short search but as the GPS was bouncing all over the place due to the tree cover and hilly terrain hindering accurate GPS fixes we had to resort to using the hint to pin-point its location otherwise I would have ended up scrambling down to the creek which is where the GPS was leading me to. Walking down here after heavy rain when the underfoot was wet and muddy in thongs is not the smartest thing I've done and bumbling down to the creek would have been quite ugly!
Anyway original log is damp, which is surprising considering what the cache container. Time for a maintenance log I reckon.

About 50 years ago we searched this area, there was a story that there was a old
steam engine left in or near here we never found anything . It looks a bit different
now. At least today I found this cache. Thanks Alansee FTC.

My husband has just recently invested in a new metal detector so today found us in the area fossicking.
I have been wanting to do this cache for some time, the rich history of this area fascinates me.
After spending some time in a nearby tributary I made the pilgrimage down this track, its beauty revivals that of the distant Ada tree walk. A fantastic display of towering Tree ferns delicate Mosses and Fungi combined with fairy wrens twittering around in the tepid light made a magical place to be this afternoon. The occasional Lyrebird darted out and even called in the distance in reply to my whistle. An absolutely magic place to sit and listen to the chuckle and babble of the Latrobe river in the afternoon sun. A fav point from me.
The cache was found quickly and easily, the container is in great condition but the log book is slightly but not badly damp, certainly not stinky or mouldy yet.

Looking at the historic photo, it's hard to imagine that this is the same place. The track is typical for the area strewn with bark, damp and slippery. No evidence of the major works that have gone on in the past. Nature takes it all back eventually. Thanks for the cache Alansee, I enjoyed the walk.
What an absolutely lovely short walk. Very damp underfoot but under a blue sky, we took in the sights and history. Tree ferns, different coloured fungi, some very large trees. Would not have known to visit here if not for the cache. With 8 year old geo-kid navigating we soon had this located. TFTC
When I was doing my research for unloved caches out this way I stumbled across this Alansee cache. Intrigued by the name I read the description and then the logs. I noticed that it needed some love of a special kind. I should have perhaps done this when I drove past at 7am this morning but I was on a mission so tonight on the way home it was a very small back track to this spot. I parked and grabbed a head lamp and torch plus a new container and few caching extras just in case and headed off down the path. I was surprised at home clear the path is even it doesn't seem to be formed so well. I guess most of the landscape was lost on me due to the dark but I did fin the tunnel entrance and noticed a couple of gave in spots. I had wondered past the cache location by the time i remembered to check and had to wonder back about 50 metres. I then used the hint as I was keen to get things sorted and head for home. Sure enough I found a plastic bag jammed full of everything from the cache just no cache... Who does that ? anyway the log book while damp is in good order as was pretty much everything so I set about signing and citing everything in the new container. Once done I returned it to it's hide and wandered back to the car. Thanks Alansee for another great location.
Many thanks to Clever Monkey who replaced the container with one of his own good ones, thus saving me a trip.
The ammo tin is gone, cache is in a plastic bag and still in ok condition as the hide is dry.
Found it! Last cache of the day and M & Geokids 1, 2 & 4 decide to trek in from the tunnel end, in the dark. This might not sound like much of a mission but given the ages of the kids, M did have a little apprehension but like little troppers in they went dealing with leaches and the slippery track down to the river like they'd been doing this stuff for years.
Bit of a back in time moment at this one for M, as the the bridge across the Latrobe at this point is his handiwork, which made the 3 kids very proud to be crossing one of dads bridges. We managed to find the cache with no big drama, although be careful as it looks like the hide may have another resident of the legless kind at some times. Hard to imagine that there was a whole town here 80 odd years ago.....TFTC

Had the day off and so out I went early to grab some caches I've been looking at for some time.
What a magic little walk, love the Aussie bush after a fresh downpour. Collected some trash on the way out.
Thanks for the cache Alansee
Took peg, ball & CD so that I could close the container properly for a weatherproof seal.

My GPS jumped all over the place even after setting it down for a reasonable amount of time. In the end I took the hint and after I was done with all the logging-technicalities, the GPS finally decided that the cache is where it is. Funny that.

While heading to Nerim, %GeoHawk%'s mum suggested we stretch our legs and look for a cache and this one fit the bill nicely. A quick walk among huge tree ferns along a track we never new existed. The GPS bounced around a bit with the trees but thanks to the clue we soon found the cache. We left a few trinkets and picked up the TB. Thanks for bring the%GeoHawk% family here.

Today found myself back in a familiar region this time exploring further east then before, hunting the caches which don't see many visitors. On the run today with me was Ahomburg who's car is better suited for these types of roads. The weather overall was pleasant but overcast for most of the day and cooler then last weekend.
Having now pickup a number of caches to the south we were back on a nice flat road heading west now and this was the next cache found. Very nice peaceful walk into GZ and wasn't aware of the historical significants of this track or area until now. Thank you for bringing me here today. Left TB, took nothing. Awesome size cache too.

Another perfect caching day today, so headed out again to a familiar place for some unfinished business from last weekend with my caching mate SedgwickDave. Our main target was a cache called "Plane Sailing", while picking up as many of the other caches around the area while we were at it.
What a great little spot, really enjoyed the walk from the main road to GZ. My GPS was pointing me further on, but dave managed to quickly locate the cache.

Found this cache at 3:30pm while travelling back from Noojee after having lunch at The Outpost Retreat--Toolshed bar and bistro. A very pleasant place to share with our Vintage car club while we are staying in Healesville for the weekend. This was a very good challenge cache. There appears to have been some severe wind damage as there are many fallen trees and limbs on the path to the hide. It was very scenic and relaxing!!!! Walking thru the bush. To know the history of a bit of the line is always good.
Left: some dolly pegs and a small basket ball. Took some great photos.

Fascinated by the history of the tram tracks Alansee, from where do you find such treasures!
Loved the walk, the history, the break from the drive, and for showing me something i would continue to keep driving by. isnt that what geocaching should be all about!
Fav from me, and the party of 10 who trampsed thru the bush (mostly muggles) thoroughly enjoyed the walk. recent storms have left lots of fallen timber though, some huge trees have succumbed.

Was in the area on a weekend scout camp and wanted to grab a few nearby caches but could only get to this one. Had not walked this trail before even though I spent many weekends at powelltown a few years back. Had a few of the of the new scouts along for the walk back in time. I could easily imagine the old railway that ran through this area. Hauling the logs to the mill down in Powelltown. iPhone was slow to update as I only had 1 bar of reception. Amazing that I could even get this all the way out here. Anyway as we got closer to GZ we slowed our pace only to have the iPhone inform us that we had past it. Backtracking slowly brought us to the true GZ where we made a quick find. Thanks for bringing us to the historical place. TNLNSL. TFTC. KeMs + scouts
I had been down here before, not knowing there was a cache. It's hard to believe there used to be a town here in the bush. I gather the tunnel passed under the existing road. I have looked for the other entrance but it has also collapsed.

I Had a Quote to do in Launching Place, so came over from Warragul via Noojee,Yarra Junction. After finishing I decided to cache my way back to Warragul as I don't get out this way much, This was the seventh cache for the day. Thanks Alansee for the cache.
What a day out caching! Had my eyes set on 15 caches for the day, with 3 of them FTF opportunities. Sadly I ended up attempting only 12 and 3 of these ended up being DNFs. However, I did manage two FTFs today, so that is some consolidation. I had assumed that I would be taking the Subaru this today, but geo-wife put a stop on that because it was 30 degrees outside and she wanted air-conditioning! So I got lumped with the rickety old Falcon ute, with no air con on the dirty back roads.
After my first cache for the day wasting nearly an hour of my time to log a DNF, I needed a couple of nice easy caches to get me back on track. This one came up trumps! What an spectacular walk into GZ, the place is teeming with wild life at every turn. The track is meandering and alround I had a lot of fun. Plus, this was actually my first ammo container! I would have thought with all the bush caches I have done previously I would have come across more of these, but no. I actually have an ammo can cache ready to go, but I wanted to find a couple first before releasing my own, which I can now do.
Thanks for one of my favourite caches, everything I would like a cache to be!

A quick find @ 14:20 heading home after working at the motorbike event near Noojee. This was certainly a very pleasant stroll, although quite slippery in a couple of places. The GPSr initially had me about 15 metres past GZ but a quick look around revealed a likely spot - and there it was!

This one gets a fav from me, It is an awesome location, great little walk not that I object to a great big hike but sometimes I just don't have enough time......
It was great to find a suitable container for a bush location, will hold up against the elements and has heaps of space for the bigger swaps....
Lots of slipping and sliding in the mud, but a very well maintained track.

Took a bit of a detour on my way home from Eden to grab this unloved cache (last found nearly 18 months ago), why it is unloved is quite amazing as this is a very pleasant short walk, even in the dark! Found the start of the path easily and wandered down under torchlight which added a spooky extra benefit! Got to GZ but as advised, EPE was only 8m at best so used the hint and found the cache in a few minutes. As expected of an ammo tin everything is in perfect condition, thanks heaps to alansee for putting one here.
Bush Buddy Found it after walking back and forth right past it several times looking at hide spot and thinking it wouldn't be there. Nice spot very wet and slippery today. Thanks for bringing me here.
After leaving home at 1000hrs on 10/10/10 we set off to find 10 caches today. Found in company with Drouinrooboy and Grumpy cow. A nice wlk in the bush. The pointing machine was all over the place but the Grumpy Cow came good and found it. Tks for the Cache
I got a nice bit of history about the tram tunnel. accompined by drouinrooboy and Terry_Jay. They both kept walking while I stoped to loook at a very big tree. it almost looked out of place. Hmmm this tree sounded familier... Haha i found the cache! I was very proud as the others quickly lost service and then stumbled back as they realised I'D found it! THX 9th cache of 10 on the 10/10/10 Took lures (For dad) Placed bouncy ball
This cache made it Cache 8 out of 9 so far for the day so far.
Grumpy Cow found it using the old technology i.e.clue sheet and looking around while the rest of us were relying on the GPS directions too specifically. A good hide. TFTC. Another interesting spot.

Had to check the clue for this cache as the GPSr was a bit confused from the treecover. Nice walk and interesting history, shame the tunnel is caved in, must have been a huge effort to dig through the hill. TNLNTFTC.
Found this one without the use of GPS. Not sure why but there was no way it would work today. Weather, trees?? dunno. Had a rough idea as we bumped into the "The Infamous five" at the beginning of the track a couple of weeks ago. We started chatting about bikes, etc then damn him, he introduced me to geocaching, now I am obsessed. Top area, the first time in a long time that I have seen Lyrebirds in real life, must follow the track some more,... watch out for the resident spider @ GZ. Interesting history of the area, must research that one a bit more.

Had a fantastic ride today and came upon this little cache. Nice waltz through the trees burdened by motorcycle gear and barrelled Across the River Kwai...aaah, sorry the River Latrobe is it? A fine cache substantial and well boxed, love that box, in a nice little hiding place. I collected a travel bug there, a pair of keys. Have to figure out now what it wants to do and see if I can expedite. Many, many thanks for bringing me here. I am just recently from WA and exploring Victoria via geocache is something I can recommend to anyone.
This was a lovely spot ....for the first minute until we discovered numerous hitchikers rapidly ascending our clothing. A quick application of aeroguard encouraged their rapid retreat, and then we continued on towards GZ. The GPS was showing that we were still several hundred metres away so we gave up on that, just using its maps. Thankfully for the clue as we found GZ quite quickly. Left a disposable poncho and COD keys TB. No sign of Geocoin. We let the dog have a great swim in the creek then got out of there before the aeroguard wore off! Thanks for showing us this delightful spot and walking tracks.

Last cache of the day, The light was fading as LJ and I heading off to find this one, the track was steep and very slippery in parts but we managed to find the cache without to much damage to ourselves. Now the fun begins, getting back up the hill as it started getting dark, again we managed without injury and just as we got back in the vehicle the hail started...talk about cutting it fine!!

Awwwww... my GPS batteries died within 50 meters of the cache so that was the start of my bad luck. Knowing that the batteries were dying i had a quick look at the clue where i misinterperated log as jog... didn't make much sence but thought it was crypic and so acted accordingly. Didn't find it in the end but now i know having read the clue correctly, i know exactly where it is! I'll be back hopefully in the next few weeks for the find. A beautiful area!

Found this one while on our way to our monthly bushwalk, this time at Baw Baw. What a great spot and we loved the little creek crossing. Very serene indeed. It took a few moments to find but once we had backtracked a bit, we found it at 14:55 in a place that I spotted and thought would be a pretty good place for a cache . As it turns out, it was .
EuDes herself was quite upset that she hadn't brought any swaps with us as the stash is pretty well loaded so we TNLNSL, although our 1st traveller into the cache geocoin had a visit to mark the occasion. Thanks Alansee.

Found at 1450. Parked at the nearby junction, and soon found the starting point. After a few minutes, arrived at GZ, but had to back track a little to find the cache nicely hidden. Was surprised to see how much effort has been put into a track like this, such as the steps and walkways.

Nice spot, I would like to do the whole length of this walk at some time. Found with the aid of the clue after hunting around for a while down the track a bit. Suffered in the name of the noble art of geocaching by incurring both a bullant and a March fly bite. Spouse was unimpressed by leech crawling up her shoe. So far she remains unconverted to the noble art.

We did a bit of back and forth before we settled on a parking location (would help if we read the cache description fully before arriving). Had a nice walk on this track before arriving at GZ for a fast find by Rhinogeo.

Found 200711251247 . After leading ouselves unnecessarily up the wrong track Facitman, Team Rubik and I read the cache instructions and embarked on our quest from the designated location
The trees did influence the EPE but the cache was found easily regardless

Cheers Alansee

Found this one on our way in to the 4*4 event. Seeing Luck Dog walk over the metal bridge on the way to the cache was hilarious - her paws are just the wrong size.

Have driven passed this one twice before but forgot to bring coordinates[:i]. Today I was prepared. The cache was an easy find in the first place I looked and the GPS pointed straight to it. I had read about this place before but never stoped for a close look.
Thanks Alansee

Found at 6.15pm GAFF1. We experienced a huge Magellan overshoot - hasn't happened to us for a long time, but this whole area upto Nojee is in some sort of satellite black hole! We headed bush (forgot about the "don't leave the track" note) and experienced some thick vegetation which actually set the scene for many caches that we did this weekend. Got back to the track and we found it in the first spot we checked. Thanks Alansee - we enjoyed the walk and the sound of vehicles just a few metres away!

Third of seven cache finds for the day on my way to the camping event. The cache was found at 10:30. I have wanted to do this one since it came on line but waited till I was heading this way, I enjoyed the walk to GZ and the history involved with the tram line. Thanks Alansee for the cache.
Up here to try and hide a cache for the Coffee's 4x4 2x2 event and could not pass by without stopping. Whether the story is true or urban myth it makes for an interesting location. Great walk to GZ although I thought I was on the wrong track when I crossed the little bridge as the track seemed to disappear. A closer look showed a tree had fallen across the track but all is still accessible. After searching for a while in a location I was not the first to search I decoded the clue and soon had the cache in hand, the GPSr was still showing 16mts. It was good to have a good clue in an area of marginal reception.
Thanks Alansee for a very enjoyable cache.

On a successful recon mission to the Poplars Reserve we deviated along he way for this cache. It was not long before we arrived at a good starting location and assembled the gear for the walk to GZ.
Although we had to cut across some bush to the cache location it was only 20-30 metres and the rest of the walk to GZ was easy. We arrived at the cache location and after letting the GPS settle the cache was found easily. It was nice to see a blank log book and we logged another FTF for the Coffee Bean Munchers.
Many thanks to Alansee for the cache, we have been researching the Tram line history for another cache in the district and were we parked is the remains of an old saw mill boiler. I have attached a photo and a set of coordinates for anyone else visiting the area.
