Travelling with richlink on a trip from Perth to Darwin and return through the centre to SA and home again. We are staying in Darwin for a few days before heading south again.
Today, we drove to Adelaide River, enjoying the scenery, history, and, of course, caches along the way. We couldn't find a track to drive in, so we walked. As previous logs state, there seems to have been a rock fall, and no cavhe is evident. We left a replacement to hold it until you can manage some maintenance, we hope you don't mind. Thanks NTSTROM.

Travelling with iluvtrekking and presently caching in Darwin and surrounds - heading for a day in Adelaide River. Looked like cache went in the rock fall so replacement was left to keep the cache in play. Thanks for the hide.
Nope. This was really unfortunate as we trekked in through the looooong grass and the grass seeds. And spent probably an hour and a half looking, sweating. There has been a rock fall at the rock wall where prev finders have said they found the cache at the base of the tree. Consequently rocks are rolled all down the hill. There’s significant grass growth at GZ so we did what we could in a systematic search but unfortunately our combined 22 years of geocaching wisdom came up with nothing. Even checked based on the trajectory of where the cache would fall but it’s not to be found by us. We were very hot and exhausted when we got to the car
It is in good company with history here. In good nick. Thank you for hiding here. Cheers and happy travels.
Tried our hardest to get to the location but with the spear grass so high and not being able to see the ground we ended up nearly bogged and didnt want to walk a km through long grass in shorts and thongs. Will be back during the dry season.
Fantastic to have the incentive to uncover some more WWII history. There are cement pads and rock walls scattered throughout the landscape everywhere here. The cache placed by allinaday is still in position where the rock wall meets the base of the tree at GZ. Well worth the trek... even in thongs!!! T4TC!
As we wander the great land
Thanks to NTSTROM for placing the cache for us to find.

A very interesting spot to visit. Plenty of evidence of the camp scattered around. The walk in was also pretty good. At GZ it took about 10 mins to locate the well hidden cache.
Log signed and all back safe again.
Took plenty of pics.
Special thanks to previous finder who was good enough to replace the cache.
Thanks. Enjoyed this one.

Thought we would attempt this one as we were coming past today. Found our way to the cache location and had a good scout around the area. Some of the rock wall has tumbled down the hill, so its possible the cache container has gone along with it, as a lot of searching did not come up with it. To ensure geocachers still visit this historical spot, we have taken the liberty of replacing the cache container. It is still a black pvc pipe type container. TFTC
Found the wall and made a good visual inspection. Wasn't prepared to move rocks on this historic drystone wall so the cache might be there but I couldn't find it. Great spot though loved the history of the site so thanks anyway NTSTROM
Found the rock wall but didn't find the cache, mind you it was 38deg outside so didn't stay long
Out and about from Coomalie camp grounds and visited many new and interesting places. We picked this one up on the way.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment.

Finally got an opportunity to search for this one. Lovely view and a fun trek. Thanks.
What a lot of fun we had here. Amazing site. We were having so much fun looking around that we didn't realise how far we had hiked. The view was terrific and the cache easily found. Just our sort of cache - plenty of interesting places to explore and space to let the geohound run around.tftc a favorite point from us.
Continuing our journey towards Darwin, on our 2nd trip around Australia.
Another stroll into the bush, but disturbed a huge red kangaroo. Walked around and looked at all the old foundations.
Very interesting spot. cache was found easily by moving only 1 rock.
Thanks for the hunt, NTSTROM.

Looking great through here today after that burning a little while ago. Lots of nice bright green shoots, a lush green cycads contrasting nicely against the black. A nice stroll through the stubble.

Glad we didn't attempt this earlier when the spear grass would have made thigns very difficult and glad geohusband was along for this one. Thanks NTSTROM
Have attempted this one before but the spear grass was over our heads and we had to give up but today it was so much easier as the area had recently been burnt out. Enjoyed fossicking around and this little piece of history and imagining how busy this area would have been back then..... Happy to finally tick this one off the list... thanks NTSTROM for bringing us here
At first attempt two weeks ago we also got as far as the power line to be faced by a head high wall of spear grass!
300 metres of that! No thanks!
But today, by chance passing by, it had been burnt off, making it a relatively easy walk/climb to GZ.
The cache took a bit of time to find, but the area is certainly an interesting one, and one best explored after the burn off. There are all sorts of bits & pieces to discover!
Despite the fire the cache was in good shape. The log was even a little damp.

I parked next to the sign and soaked up the history
Then I wandered off into the tall grass toward GZ.
I got as far as the powerlines
Hopefully in the next couple of weeks before I pass by this way again, a fire will go through the area
No way I was tackling 300 odd metres of head high grass today !!

A nice easy find, I would have loved to see this place in it's prime. Just amazing the amount of stuff you would normally just drive past on the Stuart Hwy if you didn't go geocache. TFTC!

Catching up on logs from my time in Darwin, some of the dates are a bit hazy so please forgive any errors.
We spent quite a while exploring the ridgeline and the remaining foundations and defensive positions. You can see the tactical significance of the site and the structure of the defences was interesting to see. A great location for a cache and a favourite point from me. TFTC

Found as a part of Team SaintsMadHouse and now that the kids have grown we each have our own accounts to finddd geocaches with separately wherever we go!Another wonderful advert for our early Army building those positions.Hats off to those diggers.
Lost another 500 ml sweat getting to this one. Took a further walk up to the top to see the observation/ Machine gun pit. Very commanding view

Yes, it's a bit of a hike from the highway, lucky the speargrass was all burnt away. Nice view.

With the wet setting in, took a 350m walk into the cache. Was well worth it to see the old WW2 remnants. Spear grass is already growing, but thats half the fun of finding a cache, drenched in sweat, tripping over snakes but finding that container. Log was a bit wet, but was able to spend a bit of time drying the log. All OK. L a shark for the wet. TFTC.
A very interesting spot to have a look around. We found the cache without any problem, were going to move on Richlinks gc but didn't see it in there. Thanks NTSTROM
But - this time, better luck. A nice cool grass fire had just been through the area, so it was an easy climb to the spot... and the prize was in hand fairly soon. It's SO much easier when there's no spear grass around!
TYhe ground is strewn with slippery and unstable rocks... it was much easier and safer this time using a hiking pole!
...and I thought the co-ords were pretty good.
A great end to a great long weekend caching in and around Katherine.

"Jack, not Jill, went up this hill
to find a little cache.
Jack came down with a great big frown and no luck!" after searching all the man-made walls I could see.
Don't know which I prefer: being hot, thirsty, dirty and unlucky, or hot, thirsty, dirty and successful! The latter I suppose. The trips up and down were slow - there is so much loose stone and spear grass around.

A long rough uphill walk in very hot weather.
The cache was not at the GZ, and it was a difficult search in the heat.
Found it eventually.
Then there was the rough downhill walk which my knees do not cope with particularly well.

Wow, this one took a bit of effort. Nice climb up to find the cache and view the ruins of the WWII arny camp. TN - L GC Poppy
WanderingAus wandered by on day 43 of a "climatic refugee" trip, and after a lot of gpsr bouncing and rock lifting eventually made a GAFF 1 find with a reading of 10 metres to GZ. A very interesting spot well worth visiting for it's history.
Second find of fourteen on a day trip to Litchfield National Park and my find No 1552, LCC, TNLNSL, dropped my WanderingAus Happy New Year 2008 Gold GC in for a visit before grabbing it back again.

Lots to see on my wanderings through the bush. Though they may all be remains of the infra structure it was an interesting history lesson. TFTH and bringing me tyo this spot.

A fire had passed over the cache just a day or so before, but the cache is OK. The trees were still smouldering and smoking and we got covered with soot. Still, seeing all the military camp remains was quite interesting. As former military members, we speculated on what life was like in these camps over the months the military was here. As amateur archaeologists, we also tried to piece together what some of the foundations were for. Overall, this was a very interesting cache, well worth the short walk from the highway.
Thanks!

A recent fire has made finding this one easier, although I arrived home covered in ash. Lots of interesting items have also been uncovered by the fire. TNLN TFTC
God! The terrian was overgrown with long grass up to our necks we had to 'swim' towards the cache, couldn't see the ground! Had to tread carefully along because of too many hidden rocks on the ground. It was our worst experience in the terrain, don't know why we endured and suffered the heat exhausted as well!! Anyway we were glad that we made it to the top and took a while before we found the cache. Thanks NTSTROM for the difficult hide.
The Military history along this stretch of highway is really fascinating and a good opportunity for caches. Battled with the PVC tubing and was defeated so not a great effort from me there. Thanks again for this one. TNLN
Found the cache at 8.50am. Very interest about history - worth to visit. I couldnt open the PVC so I didnt sign the log. Thanks Ntstrom for organising the cache and hunt.
Parked just of the highway in the obvious area and made my way into the bush.
What a great area. All that history. Thanks for bringing me here. The cache took about 5 minutes to locate but all was good . I will post a couple of photos' when I get home next week.
Thanks for the history lesson along with the cache.
Cheers,

Could only get to within a couple of hundred metres, so a nice up hill climb in rising humidity beckoned. Once again a nice easy find with the co-ords spot on. The rock walls are typical tent/building platform construction. Have mapped and excavated similar late 19th century platforms at a Mary River Tin mine. Difficult to see this as an aussie army site, as the beer bottle dump was so small. Good historical spot.

Had to work hard for this one. I usually check the obvious spots while the GPS settles in, but decided to trust the GPS first up. Well ...searched two other "rock walls" before abandoning my mate's recommendations and finally locating GZ about 7m away. What an amazing spot, that seems to go on forever. Would love to come back for a better look when the grass is not so long. Thanks NTSTROM for all your great hides [^] - I have finally finished them all (for now)
Called in to show a friend. Cache is in good condition and the history was great. Thanks NTSTROM
On our holidays, partly travelling in a Britz campervan through the upper half of the Northern Territory, we tried to log as many of the caches on the way. With the use of a PDA with iGo and the caches loaded as POIs, driving to the cache locations has become quite easy. In total, we visited 61 cache sites and of all these sites, we found 41 caches. Certainly not a perfect score, but we usually enjoyed the location the owner of the cache has chosen. Geocaching brought us to the usual popular tourist locations, but also on some places that we would have otherwise never stopped or driven through.
This log-entry is the forty-first cache on our tour.
It was quite a climb up and I agree with an earlier cacher that there are plenty of similar hiding locations a bit more near to the road. But that is of course up to the owner of the cache. It did indeed give me the chance to see a bit more of the site.
I had a bit of a problem with finding the cache. It’s usually not to hard to spot a man-made stack. However, it seems that all the stacks etc are man-made. Most of them quite some time ago, but never the less, I opened/moves quite a number of them before I decided to have a look at the hint. While I was decoding the hint, I realized that I was actually on top of the cache. I didn’t expect that since I just choose the spot to put my stuff down. Maybe the next cacher can check the coordinates and see if S 12` 56.234 – E 131` 07.903 are more accurate then the original coordinates? If so, then maybe NTStrom can do a small adjustment of the cache entry (just a small suggestion).

Another very interesting location showing how our soldiers lived through the war years. Mrs CHEDENT made the find but suggested there were many other hiding spots much closer to the road. Took the Kid's Geocoin TFTC and the location, had we not done the distance we would have missed the history.
Found just as the heavens opened up with torrential rain and lightning striking VERY close by. GPS was about 5 metres out (it was overcast) but I found it within 5 very long minutes. TNLN then jogged 300 metres back to my car before another bolt hits.
TFTC and interesting place I would liked to have spent more time at.

What an amazing place. Have driven past it for 30 years and never knew it was here. Must go back when I have some more time and have a good look around. Found cache easily, Great container should last for years. Took nothing left small compass for anyone needing one to walk around with. Thanks NTSTROM for the drive down the track and our second FTF for the day.
