Visitor to town. Hunting a few down in the course of touristy activities
I had been in Launceston for a couple of days and using the Tiger free bus and shank's pony i managed to get aro und quite a few caches in the town . I caught the free bus up to the Catacract gorge and then walked down to the bridge walked along to this cache before walking akong the waterfront and then caught the bus back into town and then walked back down here . thank you for this cache and exercise !
Merging my accounts. Found this as Hoterini 27/8/11. Now tracking together with Ambers007 and merging the old finds.
Great view to York St. Had to poke around a bit but found it. Parking is ok on the bend as long as you dont have a monster truck!Better to drive from the top downwards and park. Much easier.
On a walk around the area knocking off a few caches.bit of a tricky walk but got there.TFTC
Took a final stroll through Launceston this afternoon before our departure tomorrow morning for Melbourne. Was abld to grab up a few more finds along the way.
During our beautiful two-month trip through New Zealand and Australia, we arrived in Tasmania by night ferry. We pick up our rental car and drive to Launceston. We arrive early and still have plenty of time to explore Launceston's Cataract Gorge. This cache was not found during our walk through the gorge.**brockjab**, thanks for the cache.
We are currently on a eight week holiday which is mostly spent in New Zealand and Australia. However, the first three days were spent in Singapore as a nice break from an otherwise long flight. We had about three weeks in New Zealand which went by too quickly. The remaining five weeks are spent in Australia. Last night we had the ferry to Tasmania from Geelong. Picked up our rental near the ferry and drove to Launceton where we will be staying for one night. We arrived very early. Luckily our room was already available. After settling in we went to explore Launceton and the surrounding area. We had a nice walk in and around the Cataract Gorge. We also visited this cache. We reached the fence and went back. After a little bit of looking around the cache was spotted. Thank you very much for this cache.
TFTC. Its a lovely day today. The first time it hasnt been too hot for a while. I added some additional cover to the cache as it was easily seen once at GZ.
Thanks for the cache brockjab. This is one of those caches that has always been on my radar to find when I'm visiting Launceston, but for some reason, it has never been on the 'must-do-today' list. Today it made it to the 'must-do-today' list! I approached GZ from above, and found access a lot easier than I had expected. Perhaps that's what had put me off before. I made my way to GZ and was lucky enough to spot the cache after a short search. As previously reported, the cache container is totally gone, so I bought a replacement today. About the same size, it's a 400mL sistema. The contents of the old cache were placed in the new container. I've also added a sheet of rite-as-rain paper for the log which should keep this one going for a while longer.Glad to turn this one into a smiley finally.
Took a different path after visiting Cataract Gorge and found this cache quite quickly. As previously stated the container needs some TLC. Sadly had nothing with me today. TFTC
On a bit of a sorry state but made a log and replaced with paper back in the plastic bag
After booking into my accommodation for the night i made this one first up post visit to Dan Murphys [^]
Parked nearby and walked up the path next to the houses and made my way over when i got level with it on the map.
Had it within 3 or so minutes and was signing the log, which is still dry seeing the container is somewhat munted lol
It was discovered upside down as to keep any water out of it [^]
The contents were fine and dry as i signed tye log at14:18 on Mon 28/8/23.

I can’t say I have ever spent much time exploring the streets around this area. Although very glad to see interesting roads and caches hidden away. Was a quick find after parking not too far from the coordinates. TFTC
Nice quick find, the cache showed signs of previous water damage but is currently not too damp, might still need some TLC though. TFTC )
Out and about caching in the Launceston area and this was one we found.. Mr W spent a lot of his youth in the zigzag billy carting down and walking back up to do it again as he lived in Hill Street. Nice to find an oldie! TFTC
What a very cool road, I haven't driven down anything like this before in my travels.
Nearish to GZ we found a park for the bedmobile and headed over to GZ.
It didn't take long and we had the cache found.

I found this quite quickly - it’s easy to spot. However, the container has been badly cracked and is filled with mould. I was reluctant to handle it.
Today I went to get the trackable with my new 8 week old geopuppy and we got it. We found the geocache in a bush where it wasn’t supposed to be so I relocated it. I knew where it had to go because I found it before.
Found it ! Needs a new log and/or container but TFTC, left a little surprise inside for the next person
Took me a while to find the way into this cache. Nice little spot. Container broken
Thank you for the cache from GeoMaggie and her sidekick Bonnie. I have never been on this track before court and interesting experience. Cash very wet container is breaking into pieces
Hello brockjab thank you for the cache
After having a shower and tea we went back out to find some more caches this was one of them.
Wow what a lovely road would love to be able to drive up it with it closed off.
The cache took a little finding in the dark.
Found with EeePees during a fantastic weekend away.

bit of a search but got it. cleaned out rubbish from cache. needs new size 2 container. tftc good pre breakfast walk up here.
Needs a new box and log, the box has holes in it and the log gets wet. We couldn’t log it but found the cache
I did this the hard way not being a local - I walked up the walking zig zag track near Penny Royal and then had to descend again down the zig zag road. The extra effort was worth it for the views and the lovely trail. The cache itself was sitting out in the open and is a mess. Completely cracked container, log book that was soaked making my entry illegible
cacing with Westies Tillie and Mac and Angus88 thanks for placing this cache for them. . Can’t sign cache is saturated!
Found, stamped and replaced, with Maggie and Mollie, my GeoWesties, while roaming around Tasmania with our motorhome “Mylittlebus” looking for content for our TASMANIA ALL OVER facebook. Join us there. Thanks for placing this cache (and others), keeping us on our exploring toes.
Found. The container is cracked and the logbook is so soggy it can't be signed. I left a card. Never been to this part of Launceston before so it was a new experience for me.
Unfortunately it's got a hole in the container and it's taking in water. Log book saturated, sorry. But nice hide!!
You really need your thinking cap for this one.. well done.. I’m clearly not fit.. took the effort of Mrs & Mr fabulist to retrieve and replace
After work I came to find this cache. Found it ok, but I picked the hardest way back out.
I experienced a complete failure of my map reading skills last time I attempted this one. The GPS in my previous phone was all I had and it was not up to the task. I should have been able to find it from the map and the description... No one else to blame, so I will just have to "suck it up". Good to return and add a smiley here after a city- bike ride UP three zigs/zags. At my age, I am quite comfortable confessing that I stopped a couple of times on the way up. Now let's hope my brakes are up to it for the ride down!
Container will need replacing before next winter as the UV rays have done their bit and it is breaking up.

Looking around in the bush in thongs is tricky stuff when trying to find a hard one. Couldn't seem to have much luck at all so had a good look over photos and came up trumps thanks for the hide.
