I'm unsure what access is like at the moment. With access no longer possible from Doctors Flat Rd (private property), I looked at doing this via Tinkers Creek Fire Trail from the Traveling Stock Reserve off Mountain Creek Rd. However newish signage on the gate to the TSR suggests that's no longer an option.Grateful if the CO could clarify appropriate access - thanks!

A perfect day to test the capabilities of my e-bike. I had been keen to get this cache, via the one at Pig Hill, expecting that I would to spend most of the day walking here and back. However, now that I have an e-bike, I thought it would be worth riding here instead. Starting from the travelling stock reserve on Mountain Creek Road, it took me just over 30 minutes to Pig Hill, and then after a break admiring the views there, another approx 25 minutes to get here (I did overshoot a bit). Then just 45 minutes back to the car. Hopefully this cache survives the roadside maintenance being undertaken. The scrub/trees are being cut back (See photo). Cache easily found (It was open and exposed. Left with better cover). TFTC.

Today we walked to this cache from the padlocked gate at Doctors Flat Road and the corner of Pig Hill Summit Trail up along Doctors Flat Road. We walked briskly for 1.42 kms taking just 13 minutes with 88m ascent / 13m descent. At 10am the air was crisp and refreshing. It was a quick and easy find at GZ.
The return hike was 29 minutes for 3.05kms with 109m ascent/descent. Really enjoyed getting this cache ticked off today. Nothing of specific interest along the way but the bush looked fresh and the sound of the ever present Yellow Tailed Black Cockatoo was magical. Now off to find the Travelling Stock Reserve Trail to climb Pig Hill. TFTC djtsj.
**Other Stuff**
Doctors Flat Road off Mountain Creek road is indeed private property and have had it confirmed by a trusted source. The road was padlocked off a few years ago due to vandalism. We have seen the same issue in and around the Cotter reserve and one of the reasons why so many roads are also padlocked off to cars in general and 4WDs in particular. Last week we saw three FWD churning up the road up Blue Range Road which is a shame and irresponsible.

A days outing in the Brindabella National Park with JohnnyBoyACT. We started from the Mountain Creek Road and followed Tinkers Creek stock route into the park. A long walk and I had allowed all day to do it but we ended up back in Canberra for lunch. Views ??? I think the trees have grown a lot since 2007 when the cache was first put out. TFTC.
A trip organised by Marmaduke Rothschild. Long time since I've been in this area. Not much of a view, but a decent walk in via the TSR on Mountain Creek Rd. TFTC.
Found at 1:20:00 PM
There is no vehicular access to these caches any more. Locked gates on both ends of Doctor's Flat Road. I decided to try to walk in from Firebreak Trail off two sticks road as the part of the track which crosses private property is quite close to the park boundary. I didn't encounter anyone except a slightly threatening group of pigs in the Swamp Creek valley.
This cache has been damaged by fire in the past and there is a melted hole. I was still able to get the lid off and sign the log, which was dry. When replacing the cache I made sure it was upright with the hole facing down for better drainage.
All up the walk to this cache from the locked gate and on up to Pig Hill and return was about 17.5km. Quite an effort I must say. You might need to think about upping the terrain rating.
There is a slightly shorter access route off Two Sticks Road, still through private property, but you'd need to park your car on said private property.
Thanks djtsj

Gate now locked where Doctors Flat Road meets Mountain Creek Road. Access to this cache maybe still from Wee Jasper, maybe. That, or jump the gate and leg it! Locals not happy others use a PUBLIC ROAD I guess.
Not manny glimpses available today. Beautiful day but I think the trees may have overgrown the views.

I took this road from Wee Jasper and its not that bad for my trusty Subaru Outback. Gee I love
that car. Anyway cache was a good easy one, but the views are long gone. I did catch a glimpse of
Telstra tower slightly further down the road. Cheers.

Great spot for a cache. Road was also in pretty good nick after the border to the nat park. Ive never been up this road before, but had to stop here and not go any further. I will be back to go some more.
Thanks for bring me here.
Thanks for bring me here.
A quick and easy find, with an entertaining drive to get here. I headed across from Wee Jasper, and also hit the 'signs of discouragement' from the other direction. Probably explains why it's been so long; the landowner really doesn't want people visiting the public right of way.
TNLNSL, thanks for the cache djtsj.

Getting late by this, but still good views of the Capital. While it was a quick find the cache container needed some 'running repairs'. As Cookie had a supply of duct tape and gaffer tape in the car we were able to get it up and reasonable again. Think I left a pair of scissors here. TNLNSL

Lovely cache that doesn't seem as popular as I would have thought. Perfect for an afternoon's caching. TFTC
Found as we motored around the area seeking some new caches! I think the trees may have grown so they are really now micro-glimpses?
Well, I had always wanted to go Dr Flat rd but had always been put off my lack of sign and where I thought the road was, a great big PRIVATE sign. Well, today, with Sol at the wheel, no worries as we flew through, gates ort no gates. Quick find at GZ and then we were off to the views.
Found on a day trip out to Wee Jasper with the geo-family for my Birthday. TNLNSL TFTC.
An easy find on a sunny Sunday.
Lid of the box is broken - needs maintenance.
Thanks for the cache.

A peaceful drive up here early in the morning. Would have been a great view from GZ - apart from the fog. TFTC
371. A nice rural drive with not a sole in site. A lovely out of the way place. TFTC.
Some views of Black mt in the distance azs we headed towards Mc Intyres hut to camp the night.
Nice easy find after driving down the "Hang in there at Pig Hill". Found with one half of the Stormcatchers. TFTC

There was time for one more cache before we headed home , driving in mnjontour's 4WD "Tommy" we made it to GZ and found the cache easily while glimpsing Canberra in the background. Thanks for a great day mnjontour and geodog , it was fun. TFTC
Can nearly see home from here, what a nice end to a very enjoyable weekend, TFTC!!!
After stopping by Herca's cache, we finished our trip off with this last cache. Couldn't quite see my house from here, but it's close. Was nice to give our new 4x4 some tracks to have a spin on. Thanks for the cache.
Found this one with Wasptor and Family on our weekend Camping Trip (7 of 7 for trip)
last one for the weekend, can almost see home now... thanks.
last one for the weekend, can almost see home now... thanks.
Grabbed this one today on my way out to the Hume Sawmill and this is only my second trip back up this far after fighting the 03 fires and it is good to see the regrowth coming along strong. The cache was easily spotted and I grabbed the GCA Swaggie to move to a GCA cache. TFTC
Found on great Brindabella cacheing day. Kids I hired from my freind to add to the atmsophere could see the wood from the trees but they are only little.
Went for a drive with AnnaS, Sean and Ko today, out to Wee Jasper along Doctor's Flat Road. Stopped here but no view at all - far too cloudy and rainy. TFTC.
How many caches does it take to find a cache? Well there was a good dozen looking......

Another drive by cache toward the end of a day 4WDing in the Brindies.. TNLN Logged my visit this time not just the GeoSons..
A nice easy drive by cache - we let our two and a half year old find this one. She did ok only requiring a few prompts in the right direction but she was thoroughly pleased with herself once she had the cache in her hand.

First one found as a registed geocacher, found two others by accident and decided to look up web site, Great fun, found this easily. Thanks
Found on our way home from wee jasper. We had never driven this route before and it was great in the new all wheel drive. TFTC
Took a trip to Wee Jasper, collecting caches along the way. This was 4 of 15 for what was a very enjoyable day out in the country. TFTC and the view.
Found with MrFlibble, JenJaret and two newbies on a 4-wheel driving trip through the Brindies. A lovely spot to gaze out over Canberra. Our first cache for a long while...

Found on a morning's caching with our good friend Rbirtles, his geoson and my cachekid.
I was very proud of the 3yr old cachekid - he had a quick look around and went straight to the cache hiding spot for the find.
When we went to do the loot swaps, I realised that I had left my geocaching backpack on the top of the hill at Urarria! Thanks to Rbirtles we still had something to swap though, so the cachekid was happy.
Thanks for the cool cache location djblrts, nice drive in the Brindies (we also went on to the old saw mill site).

Found today with Newberys and both our geosons. We gave geowives most of the day off to earn brownie points so Newberys and I can have a full day caching for ourselves some time in the future... . A nice easy drive by with Newberys geoson making the find. Cheers and thanks for the cache!
Joint effort with Mightybent. Mrs Dentoz had this in hand before we got out of the car. Our last cache for the day.
After a big day out it was good to see home again. Nice spot for a final cache. Thanks

Definitely no glimpses of anything today - way too much dust around to see any views at all! Cache was quickly found. Left slinky, took coin. TFTC.
Nice drive up the hill. But to be honest we picked a bad day for it.
Couldn't see anything but we still had fun.
Found the cache and returned down the hill as we had other plans for the day.
I will post up my matching photo of nothing but dust soon.

A nice day out planting a few caches in the Wee Jasper area with Pollywogs, came home this road in my new geo all wheel drive. Could not believe how good the first 1/2 of this road is from Wee Jasper end.... hit a few very slippery spots mid way, which caused lots of laughs and comments that we were glad the Geo husbands were not with us. Geo niece thought she would just wave a white hankie at a passer by if we got into trouble..... not that many passers by out here lovey
TFTC - fantastic views on a clear day I am sure, we will have to come back again.

Found on way home from Wee Jasper, came this way to pick up 2 caches in sisters new car, pouring rain and couldn't see anything for rain and fog. Now I see why the recommendation for 4WD, most of road was great even in rain but some very slippery spots as well. Beautiful drive, lots of wildlife.

There is nothing, absolutely nothing, quite so nice as mucking about in mud. And when you have a shiny 4WD to get into muddy places, that is even better!
Mr Winglen generously provided transport for our team which included Zsazsa7, McPhan and myself and he did a great job controlling the wagon in no-traction mud-sliding territory. The contrast in road surface from dry, dusty summer conditions to slick, puggy mud in winter was an eye-opener to me.
Saw two large black chickens (lyrebirds?) scoot out onto the track, so they were a bonus on a great explore into this neck of the woods. Left a valuable RexTrex pathtag. TFTC.

Nothing like a 4WD, rain and mud to bring out the grunt in a man. Pity it was misty, would have loved to have seen the views. Thanks for the cache. ZZ7
2024. [font=Comic Sans Ms]A car full of testosterone and wet roads - great fun. Mr Winglen did a magnificent job of controlling the blue beast around super slippery roads before, during and after this cache. To have red mud splashing over the windscreen, totally obliterating the landscape was like a scene from a Biggles book (except this was in a car in Canberra and I'm not sure that Biggles ever had his plane's vision obscured by red mud, but it was an adventure [sans Adventra])
Once at the cache Mr W tried valiantly to remain dry and warm in the car. I managed to extract him by asking where the glimpses where. We wandered down the road a bit and he pointed to one bit of mist obscured landscape and decided it was behind there. Not the best day for understanding the cache name.

529. We found this on dusk, having raced the sunset to get here (and back to the bitumen) before total dark. Nice spot and we were relieved to find a turning area to park in. Bulldozers have pushed right up to the hide but all was well. T: rising sun and L: plastic army man. TFTC and the fantastic views
Doctor's Flat Road is being widened during Feb 09 and the notice at the entry states that delays of up to several HOURS can be expected during this time. I would suggest perhaps removing the cache during road works so it doesn't get dozed, and replacing once they are finished (if the location still exists!)
Despite the roaring heat, we decided to take the bikes out this weekend and thought that a spot of geocaching would add to the adventure. Out to Uriarra Crossing for the start of the adventure where we met the farmer whose paddocks are intersected with Doctor's Flat Road. She wasn't real happy about us using the road either, but eventually gave way to the good old arguement "Actually, it is a public road, we are allowed to drive/ride on it". Alas, we now discovered that while we had the printed directions and co-ords (including the picture from the cache info), we didn't have the GPS unit - too much of a hurry when we left at 6 am!
Oh well, we would at least try for the Hume Sawmill - that one should be a little easier with no technical support (see Hume Sawmill geocache log for more about this supposedly easier cache!). On the return trip, expecting to have finished the day without a second cache, we rounded a corner and I immediately slammed on the brakes (promptly fish-tailing much to geohubbies amusement). What do you know, this corner looks identical to the picture! Hmm, thankfully I ALWAYS read the clues, and with very little effort we found the cache.
Thanks for a great day riding, a really beautiful area.

Due to the heat and lack of rain, the first 4 km of Doctor's Flat Road is getting rather washed out. I wouldn't attempt in a 2WD unless you have a good level of ground clearance and great suspension.

321 - Had a few hours this afternoon to go caching with Sol de Lune.
We decided to do a couple of the more remote caches up this way. It took a while to drive in this far - including opening and closing about 3 gates - but after doing Hume Sawmill we backtracked, arrived at the location, and quickly had the cache in hand.
Yep - and nice views as well.

A quick deviation on our way home to collect this cache. Watch for ants at the GZ - I wasn't taking care and before I knew it they were inside my jeans and biting in several places, nasty bites that were still stinging 30 minutes later. Otherwise a nice quick cache, thanks djblrts.
What a great drive, the signs didn't deturb us at all, used to that around our area as well. Drove in from the canberra side on a midnight madness geo-drive. Got to the spot, found the cache and admired the night views. TFTC.
Found 12:46pm.
There are many roads I know of just out of the burbs similar to this one, that have old signs denying access. Some of which I know were the main travelling roads before the highways were built and have always been public access. Putting up these signs seems to be a common trick of the locals to limit visitors. Can't blame them, really.
This was one road I was unaware of. I had always wondered how you were to get to this small area of National Park. It was a cruisy afternoon drive with no dramas (except getting my head sun burnt). I seen no locals, other than the cows. There's some beautiful, large homes tucked away in these hills.

Coooeee, a *FTF*.
OK, so I've ridden my MTB out here to Wee Jasper in about 2000, so I was going to do the 2 caches on Doctor's Flat road and the Wee Jasper one also, but this time I had to be back in time to vote, so I took the car - Thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
Having been out on this road before, I knew exactly what it was like, so a slow and careful drive and it was easily done. Not too wet, just a few boggy patches, 1 deep creek crossing, one fallen tree I had to remove from lying across the road, and it was a pleasant little trip all the way to Wee Jasper picking up 3 caches for the day.
This one was easily found, had a quick glimpse of the departing capital, then off to Hume Sawmill and Wee Jasper I went, TFTC djbirts, loved the trip.
Dropped off a Geocoin and a Travel Bug, took the same.

Seeing I came out here in the dark last time, I decided to check it out in the daylight! – Very nice indeed, and a whole lot less scary! Love it when everything is wet after rain! TNLN, took coin. Thanks djblrts!
