It is just really too bad when a business trip is planned in a place like Las Vegas and I have an opportunity to come early to do a little caching before the meeting. When I found out I was heading to the south west, I made arrangements to do just that. Come down early and hit the Route 66 power trail. I have wanted to do this trail for quite some time. Last year I was down in the area and managed to get the E. T. Highway cleaned up. Of course, I will need to plan a return trip to that trail at some point since they have added quite a few more caches since I got the 1500 that were there last year. For this trip, a good friend, Vulcan64, was able to get some time off and join me for a caching adventure. So we flew down on Tuesday from Sioux Falls and then we worked our way down to Barstow, grabbing a couple of caches along the way. We tried to focus our attention on virtual caches and earth caches for the first night, but there were some terrific targets of opportunity that we could not pass up. In the morning, we took a little walk to grab a nearby cache since breakfast was not ready to be served. Once we got a quick breakfast, we took off for the trail. Once again, there were a few nice targets for us to grab before we made our way down to cache 001. From there we hit the trail with gusto. We did get a couple of other nice caches along the way as well, but our goal was to get the Route 66 trail done in a day. We managed to get it done. What a great trail! We had a lot of fun and we managed to stay safe. Only a few cuts and bumps along the way. By the time we the moon was starting to rise, a beautiful full moon, by the way, we were still about a hundred short of completing the trail. The light of the fading sun was precious, but fleeting. We went as fast as we could, but we ended up finishing in the dark. Good thing we brought flash lights along with us. We signed the logs as VB for Vulcan64 and Beta59. Thanks for all of the great caches, on the trail as well as before, after and in between.
Beta 59 and I flew into Las Vegas on Tues. afternoon to start our adventure. We headed out to Barstow, Ca. as this would be our starting point to begin the Route 66 caching trail. Our goal we set for ourselves was to try to get all the trail done in one day. This was my first trip to the area. Certainly different than South Dakota. Warmer and drier. During this trip I was able to make some new records and add to some current ones. I appreciate all the work involved in making this trail. I enjoyed the whole day. Doing a trail like this with a good friend really makes it go so much better. We signed the logs as V B. TFTC. Piedra
Our third day on the "Route 66" powertrail. We found the rest until nr. 800 and some other caches in the surrounding area. It was a great pleasure. Thanks a lot for giving us this good time. TFTC.

Caching on a road trip with my dad, who is not interested in caching at all. He was sitting in the car blowing the horn after five minutes. Clueless. Anyway, seeing that a previous log said it was 30 feet from the co-ordinates and that my dad was sitting back on Route 66 blowing the car horn, no wonder I DNF.
I've had fun hunting for and finding this cache, It never ceases to amaze me how the CO in the first instance comes up with the idea for placing a cache at this location. After signing the log and then replacing the cache, another find becons me. Thanks Piedra for the cache.

First cache of day2 on R66, Well after so many micros on the highway I pressed my case for a side trip to visit this crater as we missed out on the Amboy one, as this was alot closer and more accessible. I totatly enjoyed the short walk up the Caldera, took a bit of time to locate the GZ but not that mch eventally found it got some pictures before we hit the highway again
After many months waiting we are finally here, we where fortunately enough to meet the cache owners at an event, but even more fortunate to have mild weather.
We completed the series plus a few side caches in about two days and loved it

Hello from Canberra, Australia
US12. A new day, and apart from a miss at the rest stop, we flew out here along the freeway. We did the toll booth yesterday, but Mtrax wanted to visit a Caldera, so we went out here today. I must say it is very imposing thinking what it represent here. I am glad we did it and it was not real effort when compared to caching in AU. Thanks..

Down from British Columbia for the winter and most of the time is spent caching. Today was a travel day, going from Barstow to Needles with an overnight stop at the Amboy Crater. Several caches had come out since I did the Route 66 series, so I was kept occupied during my travel. Nice to have lots of pull-over room for the RV, too! Hiked in from the road and got a good look at the crater as I approached. Thanks for putting out your caches!
Did quick side trip to this cache while completing Rt 66 power trail - dropped off whole bunch of TBs. Thanks for the hide.
